Absolutely. The fact Michael Caine apparently insisted on playing it as if the muppets were human actors in a Shakespeare production balances great with the muppet ridiculousness.
My family watches this every year when we celebrate Christmas. I always think someone is going to suggest a different movie, but we all vehemently agree to watch Muppets Christmas Carol.
Just don't get me started on the missing song. I get irrationally angry about it.
A new one just came out on Disney+ called “Home Sweet Home Alone.” There is also “Home Alone (4): Take Back the House” and “Home Alone (5): The Holiday Heist.”
I still like the idea of having Macauly Culkin play his original roll, but everyone ignores the fact he's a grown ass man and act as if he was his original child self
My second favorite is when he's at the mall
Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn't... Oh hee hee, it wouldn't be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn't it?
Oh, the silent majesty of a winter's morn; the clean, cool chill of the holiday air; and an asshole in his bathrobe, emptying a chemical toilet into my sewer.
This was a family tradition growing up, we had it on VHS and watched every year, it was eye opening when we bought the dvd and all the 'raunchy' scenes that were cut for the TV version.
Scrooged is one of my favorites but it legit is a damn good Christmas movie.
First off it’s another retelling of a Christmas Carol (which by the way the Allister Simms one is pretty dope compared to the others IMO), but at the same time it’s kind of a time capsule of the late eighties. The late Richard Donner directed it beautifully and of course Bill Murray’s douche bag with a hidden heart of gold performance is miraculous.
It ticks all the Christmas movie boxes but somehow gives them all the finger in a subtle way. The completely off-the-cuff speech at the end is all Bill Murray. If you got a heart it will make you laugh but bring a tear to your eye, but mostly make you think.
That movie is AMAZEBALLS. I read a review once that called it a train wreck, I couldn't agree and disagree more.. It's weird as shit and totally off beat, but by being a "train wreck" it's like accidental perfection.
Yeah but they came out around Christmas and my fam went together every Christmas to see them in theaters. Definitely Christmasy nostalgia associated with them!
Favorite Christmas movie. The house in the movie (seen from the outside) is a museum in Cleveland, Ohio. If you ever get a chance, check it out! It's great!
Insane that this is so far down! It's better than all those other movies above it, maybe DieHard gives it a run for its money. But that's it end of story.
Absolutely! My family has been watching this every holiday season for at least 25 years now.
We even got together to watch A Christmas Story: The Musical when it came to town a couple years ago.
A lot of people don't like it. IDK if they just never watched it growing up but I think it is by far the best. Obviously Die Hard is better but that isn't really Christmas. This is as Christmas as it can be and totally holds up
Had to scroll way too far to find this. My favorite Xmas movie I watch it every year.
Bernard called me sport, cause he knew everything. Right, Dad? Remember! *tosses snowglobe*. Thank you, Charllie. Thank you.
Here you go, the trailer starts at the 28 second mark: https://youtu.be/yFjzbvW6rUg
Here’s the full 15 minute long sequel: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5ge6ui
In no particular order:
Scrooged
A Christmas Carol with Alastair Simm
Christmas Vacation
Die Hard!!! 1 and 2
Arthur Christmas
Polar Express (for my dad)
Love Actually
The Grinch
Home Alone
It's a Wonderful Life
There are so many great ones out there, I'm sure I'm missing a dozen.
I watch Family Stone every year before Thanksgiving to circumvent my roommates thoughts that it's too early for Christmas movies. I say but this is just a movie that happens to take place at Christmas.
Home Alone 1&2 (3 is good but isn't making a list of bests)
How the grinch stole Christmas
Nightmare before Christmas
Klaus
Arthur Christmas
Scrooged
The really old animated Frosty and the old animated Rudolph
That Folgers coffee commercial with the heavy incest vibes.

You’re all crazy. It’s obviously Muppets Christmas Carol
Only correct answer
I used up my free award today and now I regret not saving it for this comment.

Thanks for the thought!
We’re Marley and Marley woooooo
This is the perfect movie, embodying every aspect of Christmas spirit
Hands down the best Christmas Carol movie. The music was incredible and it's odd how well the Muppets seem to fit in the setting!
You are correct, sir
I'm 58 years old and just finally watched this last Christmas, and really loved it.
I'm absolutely delighted that the first answer I saw is the correct one. I shall read no further.
Absolutely. The fact Michael Caine apparently insisted on playing it as if the muppets were human actors in a Shakespeare production balances great with the muppet ridiculousness.
alright, thread is over, we found the winner
Omg I knew I was forgetting one on my master list! Muppet Christmas Carol is *chefs kiss*
Swedish Chef's kiss, I think you mean?
Good Call. Disney+ it is tonight then.
100% correct
this!
Came here to say this. I usually just have it running on a loop at Christmas-time
Only good one tbh
Yes! I came here to say this
Thank god this is the top (and only correct) answer.
To be fair, a good one! I once went to a karaoke viewing of it, fun times.
My family watches this every year when we celebrate Christmas. I always think someone is going to suggest a different movie, but we all vehemently agree to watch Muppets Christmas Carol. Just don't get me started on the missing song. I get irrationally angry about it.
*screams in Mickey's Christmas Carol
Home Alone. The good ones not the sequels.
What are the remakes called?
A new one just came out on Disney+ called “Home Sweet Home Alone.” There is also “Home Alone (4): Take Back the House” and “Home Alone (5): The Holiday Heist.”
I still like the idea of having Macauly Culkin play his original roll, but everyone ignores the fact he's a grown ass man and act as if he was his original child self
I agree
I agree.
Christmas Vacation
Is your house on fire Clark?
Don't throw me down Clark!
I'll try not to Aunt Bethany
Is this the airport, Clark?
Is Rusty still in the Navy?
This house is bigger than your old one
Oh dear did I break wind? Jesus Bethany did the room clear out?
You couldn't hear a dump truck in a nitroglycerin plant
hallelujah, holy shit!….where’s the Tylenol?
My second favorite is when he's at the mall Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn't... Oh hee hee, it wouldn't be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn't it?
Absolutely the best Christmas movie!
Bingo
This is my vote. It always makes me laugh and it’s somewhat relatable if you’ve ever had to have crazy family members stay for the holidays.
Oh, the silent majesty of a winter's morn; the clean, cool chill of the holiday air; and an asshole in his bathrobe, emptying a chemical toilet into my sewer.
Shitters full!
Yes! I watch it every Christmas.
This was a family tradition growing up, we had it on VHS and watched every year, it was eye opening when we bought the dvd and all the 'raunchy' scenes that were cut for the TV version.
And when Santa squeezes his ass down the chimney tonight hes gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.
Die hard
Lol that a also a joke in that new Xmas Netflix movie "Love Hard"
Actually it's part of the reason for that films name. It's a merging of their two favorite Christmas movies.
Come out to the coast. We'll get together, have a few laughs.
I came here to see this upvoted to the stars
This used to be the subversive answer, but these days it’s the cliché answer.
Came to say this!
Scrooged is one of my favorites but it legit is a damn good Christmas movie. It's a wonderful life.
I second this
Who else thinks Pottersville looks more fun than Bedford Falls?
And Biffs Town in Back to the future
Scrolled till I found it, you are correct and everyone else is wrong 😂
A Christmas Story followed by Christmas Vacation, then Elf
Gremlins
How is this not higher up?
Came here to say this, why is this all the way down here? UP VOTE THIS!!
Muppet Christmas Carol
Michael Caine acting amazing primarily off of puppets, the amazing gonzo rizzo team, and cheeses for us meeces. What more do you need?
Not inherently a Christmas movie(s) but my best friend and I always watch The Lord of the Rings during the holidays. So, it's Christmas to us.
Same! They were all in theaters around the holidays, and we always went to see them. Now they just feel Christmasy.
I love the lord of the rings, could watch it any day!
Yeah but they came out around Christmas and my fam went together every Christmas to see them in theaters. Definitely Christmasy nostalgia associated with them!
Elf
The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!
By the way I think you have the most beautiful singing voice in the whole wide world!
You’re a cotton headed ninny muggins
Not sure why I had to scroll so far to read this. And not sure why there are any other answers!
Home alone
Only Christmas movie I watch every year.
Scrooged! I love Bull Murray though. It’s dated because it was made in the 80’s but that’s one of the reasons I love it I guess…
Cartoon Grinch
Ok but only the old one
Scrooged
Die Hard
Batman Returns
And good will toward men. And women.
Klaus

I love it when they play it all day on Christmas
This is the one
Favorite Christmas movie. The house in the movie (seen from the outside) is a museum in Cleveland, Ohio. If you ever get a chance, check it out! It's great!
Insane that this is so far down! It's better than all those other movies above it, maybe DieHard gives it a run for its money. But that's it end of story.
THE best. One of the only movies I can watch for 24 hours straight, thank you TBS.
Absolutely! My family has been watching this every holiday season for at least 25 years now. We even got together to watch A Christmas Story: The Musical when it came to town a couple years ago.
Correct!
A lot of people don't like it. IDK if they just never watched it growing up but I think it is by far the best. Obviously Die Hard is better but that isn't really Christmas. This is as Christmas as it can be and totally holds up
“The Holiday” with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz is just one of those movies I will always switch on if it’s on TV and is comforting to watch.
I just watched it for the first time. Loved it, truly comforting. <3
So sad I had to scroll so far for this one! I rewatch this movie every year- it’s perfect. Cozy and warm and happy.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
For a classic Christmas movie tho gotta go with A Christmas Carol (any version)
But especially the Muppets version.
I really like the musical Scrooge with Albert Finney
Don't forget about the Barbie version where Tiny Tim is a little girl
Elf.
The Santa Clause
The only perfect Christmas movie
We all love to hate Neil
Neil and those sweaters!
Had to scroll way too far to find this. My favorite Xmas movie I watch it every year. Bernard called me sport, cause he knew everything. Right, Dad? Remember! *tosses snowglobe*. Thank you, Charllie. Thank you.
The one with Snow Miser and heat miser ❄🔥
Muppet Christmas Carol. No other.
Emmet otter jug-band Christmas is a close second.
Obviously ! Jim Henson was a genius.
Albert Finney’s Scrooge. George C. Scott’s A Christmas Carol. N.L. Christmas vacation. Scrooged. Muppet Christmas Carol. Bad Santa.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (prolly get downvoted for this one) Alternate: Home Alone
Because it's the only Thanksgiving movie there is! It's not a Christmas movie!
Exactly! Great movie, wrong holiday
Gosh, thanks for the correction, Reddit.
Love Actually
Is that the one where Hugh Grant stammers and blinks a lot?
Have you seen the sequel? It’s amazing
What?? I need more information
Here you go, the trailer starts at the 28 second mark: https://youtu.be/yFjzbvW6rUg Here’s the full 15 minute long sequel: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5ge6ui
+1 I love that film, watch it every christmas for like 10 years now.
This is my second favorite. It just makes me so happy. I feel like I re-notice all of the adorable moments every time I watch.
The polar express only for the hot chocolate scene
As soon as I saw the question I started hearing music from The Polar Express!
Hot hot! Ooh we got it! My favourite scene is the lake scene, amazing every time
Here we only got one rule never ever let it cool
The lake scene is the best and no one can convince me otherwise!

Eyes Wide Shut
Star Wars holiday special

Die Hard, the best Christmas movie ever.....
A Christmas Story
The Ref
I had to scroll through 250 Die Hard answers to find The Ref. The family fighting is what Christmas is all about. Dennis Leary at his finest.
Bad Santa
Planes, trains, and automobiles
That’s the best Thanksgiving movie. But it’s not a Christmas movie
That's a Thanksgiving movie. Pretty much the only Thanksgiving movie. Love it!
Eyes Wide Shut
As long as you don't like a lot of Christmas in your Christmas, you are absolutely right. It has only aged better and better with time
Die Hard
die hard ofc
Die Hard (As Jake Peralta would say)
Die hard.
The Family Stone
I watch Family Stone every year before Thanksgiving to circumvent my roommates thoughts that it's too early for Christmas movies. I say but this is just a movie that happens to take place at Christmas.
