It’s great for kids whose birthday often falls on or very close to a big holiday. A friends birthday is December 23. Ugh! Now she can have a half birthday in June!
Mine is on Christmas Day! I guess it depends on whether or not you enjoy the birthday attention. Since it’s on Christmas you’re almost guaranteed to have family show up or to be visiting family. Even if my birthday is a small side quest for most, i still have people wishing me a happy birthday without having to deal with all the noise/attention of a full on birthday party. Also, my family has always done a tremendous job at filling me with lots of love each birthday. Also, I really like Christmas and the holiday seasons in general so I don’t mind sharing a birthday with a major holiday!
I share your baby's birthday! So it's obviously the best! On a funny note...though not for my mom, I imagine...I have a twin brother and an older brother who was born on Christmas. So I now understand that must have thoroughly sucked for her.
What happened 9 months prior to Christmas in your family?! My brother and sister are 3 years apart but birthdays really close to each other. They did the math and figured out 9 months prior was my dad's birthday 💀
No clue, but it was the 70's so...
I do know that twins have a tendency to come a little early, so our due dates were almost certainly not quite so close. Unfortunately my mom passed years ago so I can't ask her, and my dad is not the attentive sort who is likely to even remember something like that. Though I should ask. Perhaps he'll surprise me.
My son’s birthday is right before Christmas, so I’ve considered doing a half birthday for him too. But his half birthday literally falls on my husband’s birthday, which is also always right around Father’s Day! We can’t win 😭
My half birthday falls on my grandpa’s birthday and my sister’s half birthday falls on my grandma’s. I LOVED sharing that growing up, I always got the first piece of cake and a special half bday shoutout
My daughter is a January baby. Now that she's older she likes having a half birthday so she can have friends over outside. I don't blame her. Ohio in January is no fun for a birthday party.
I did that growing up too (late January birthday in northern Alberta) and I turned 30 this year and plan to keep the tradition going! The last few years it’s been lunch on a patio in Banff
My mom used to do half birthday cakes for me and my brother! We both have summer birthdays that were 2 days and 2 years apart and we desperately wanted to have a birthday in our classrooms ( we were dorks) so mom would get us a cake, half it and bring one half to my brothers class and one half to mine on our half birthdays
My girls are 2 days under 2 years apart! lol but their birthdays are during the school year, so no half birthday cakes are needed for that. I love that your mom did that for you guys, it's so sweet!
I think this is really cute and sweet!
I see a lot of people are saying it's silly, and I can see where that sentiment comes from -- but I feel like this is more of a celebration of the parents (and adjacent helping hands!) who are adjusting to caring for the little one, whether they have older children or not. A new baby always changes the dynamic a little, and it's worth celebrating the effort and love that goes into accommodating that. Not to mention, we could all use another reason to celebrate and eat cake.
That is so adorable. I should suggest it to my sister. Her daughter was born near Christmas so she gets a party in the summer instead so ot doesn't overlap. A half cake would be adorbs.
That's so cute! Might do it later when I have kids too :)
Then again, I bake whenever I have time, so I'll probably use any excuse later when I have my own Lil family
Or it's for the adults and older children to eat. It's an excuse to have a party. The baby has no clue that there's a party going on and isn't being harmed. What is wrong with that?

That's gorgeous, I'm curious if you made a single layer whole cake, cut in half and stacked, or if it's a double layer whole cake and you used/saved the rest for another occasion?
i wasn't like every other kid, you know, who dreams about being an astronaut, i was always more interested in what buttercream was made out of on a cake

Yes! My son was born on Christmas and I’m planning to give him a half birthday cake every year.

I smiled at side quest
My baby is due around Christmas so this was a very lovely comment to read! Thank you for sharing!
Of course! I wish you a very healthy pregnancy and delivery! ❤️ I am rooting for a birthday twin 😎
My baby was born this past December 28th so we were thinking about doing this for the future!

My baby was born the same day!! 12/28/23!

Dec 23rd here. My birthday is always the families' christmas party.

Agreed. That’s why i live in Arizona.

#✋️🤚🖐
My youngest uncle was born December 26. I always felt sorry for his childhood. My dad’s wasn’t much better, September 1.
When I first read it, I thought the cake was 6 months old...
That would be a Christmas cake
I scarily thought the same thing
Shoulda popped an apostrophe in "months" so we know whose it is
Omgg sorry about that 😅
I think this is a fun idea!
You can make a half a cake but the last person will still cut it in half.
It's become a trend where I stay🥰
Where do you “stay”?
Nairobi, Kenya
Oh, neat!
Ha how cool and clever
Any reason to celebrate 🥳 🤗
That's my family motto. We'll use any excuse to turn something into a party!
That’s hilarious. What a great idea
Beautiful cake! But, how’d you keep it fresh for 6 months?
You just give it a bottle when it cries and change its diaper every few hours.
😂😂😂
> 6 months old birthday cake That's not how birthdays work
I mean my mom made a cake for my imaginary dog's birthday, so I think you can probably just make cake for whatever reason you choose.
We have halfway to one birthday parties where I stay😂😂
I do “half birthday” cupcakes for my young kids every year, it’s just fun to have an excuse to celebrate something!
Can you adopt me?
Absolutely. I’m your mom now.
Can I get in on this too?
Aaaw that's very beautiful 😍

Is it like a cake advance? Do they only the remaining half cake at one year?
No they do a full cake at one year
Just say you ate half of it before you iced it because you were high af
Just an excuse to make a cake for the adults.
It could be! My kids share the same birthdate three years apart so we do halfsies for them for fun.
It was my 6 month old's halfy birthday last week!
it’s half a bday- i think that’s why it’s half a cake
Booooooo

Love the work and colors!
Thank you 🤗
Ok. This is super adorable
It’s cute until you’re having to make 16 cakes for their 16th bday.
Proportionally it would be 32
One would assume they'd make a full cake for a full year of age based on the half cake for a half year.
Super creative & fun!
Thank you 🤗
Beautiful! What kind of cake inside?
Chocolate Cake
Nice!
This idea of cake design was nice
My opinion -the half birthday idea is silly! Your cake, however, is an adorable and clever idea for it, and looks cute and yummy!
An excuse for a cake is always okay imo. But I'd want a whole ass cake. Lol
It was actually a 2 layered 8-inch cake, and then I cut the layers in half then stacked them so it has 4 layers
Niiiice
That is so adorable. I should suggest it to my sister. Her daughter was born near Christmas so she gets a party in the summer instead so ot doesn't overlap. A half cake would be adorbs.

😂😂 they might have 1/4yr birthday celebrations 😂
I don't think anyone's going to want to eat a 6 month old cake.
I love how it’s “half” a cake for the half birthday. Cute
This is adorable! Cool idea, and I saw this just in time :) my baby is coming up on 6 months too ❤️
Looks great for a cake that was made 6 months ago!
Now you can name the kid (according to wagon trail rules)
My heart 🥹 this is so cute, I love this
So cute and great idea!
I'm in love with this!!
Please tell me you’re not serving that to a 6 month old tho??
Yeah definitely not enough cake.
That's what I was thinking. The kid can't eat it or appreciate it, so it's more of a parent status symbol?
Or it's for the adults and older children to eat. It's an excuse to have a party. The baby has no clue that there's a party going on and isn't being harmed. What is wrong with that?
Oh! Right, so it’s not a cake that’s been sitting around for half a year, it was made for- yeah, that’s much better. It looks good!
Price should be half the cake
Very nice cake
I understood this as the cake was six months old and halfway to one meant it was for a 50 year old
Beautiful cake!!
what a great concept!! you did such a good job, it's so visually satisfying-- i already know it's gonna be a tasty cake too
Thank you 🤗 😊
Adorable!!
Wow looks very nice!
Well. Funny thing is 3 days ago. I turned 18 and nobody even remembered me
Oh no, I'm so sorry 😢. I wish you a late Happy birthday
Never mind, I am used to it😂
And thanks

at first i was wondering “why” now i’m wondering why i’m such a grump. why not‽ fun idea
I would have never thought of this! How creative, I love this!
Did you come up with the idea of half a cake for half a year? It’s so funny, and either way it came out great
No, got the idea on pinterest
Why are people downvoting the people that say a 6 month old can’t have cake…?
Cute idea!
1/2 cake for 1/2 year
I just Love this! Very clever & excellent decorating - you did great!
A half cake! So cute!!
That's gorgeous, I'm curious if you made a single layer whole cake, cut in half and stacked, or if it's a double layer whole cake and you used/saved the rest for another occasion?
It's actually a double layer. So the cake has 4 layers inside
Such a clever idea to have a half cake to celebrate a 6 months birthday! I love the colours too!
Thank you 🤗
It's not the half birthday that bothers me, it's the fact there is a 0 percent chance a baby should eat this. So what's the point?
So the people celebrating the baby can eat it. Obviously. What's the point of being bothered by that?
Super cute but 6 month olds can’t have cake lol
That’s clever except the baby can’t enjoy it! ☹️
[удалено]
Did I ever say there was a problem? I’m just saying it sucks that the kid can’t have a piece. Is there a problem with that?
Too cute!
This is so cute
Cute idea
I love this so much! How fun
What a cute idea. 🙂
This is so cute 🥺
Neat idea and very well executed!
Look dood, I love that you're going through that effort for your offspring, thats what it's all about. Love
Clever, very clever.
Such a cute cake! And such a great idea too! Happy Halfway to your little one.
Super
Hope they enjoy it, seeing they won’t experience a one year birthday after choking on those decorative pearlions.
i wasn't like every other kid, you know, who dreams about being an astronaut, i was always more interested in what buttercream was made out of on a cake
Very clever!
Clever!
so cute
This is soooo cute and inventive
I love this idea
Cute ☺️
Oh that’s clever
How cute!!
That's fucking adorable. She says out loud to the cat.
🤮
Why is it that colour ?
