skitzbuckethatz

Dont forget to bring your goat!

Oldgregshoe

And your wife

[deleted]

And rum

Helegad_Rae

If you want to travel by public bus you will need cash! Small notes and coins. They will turn you away if you try to pay with a $50 or sometimes even a $20. Everything else is card. Our public buses still exist in the stone age...

Hot-Ad-2589

Just say you've got no cash and the drivers will let you ride for free. Everyone does it

Sometimes you don’t even need it there.

NikkiEchoist

Put it this way, the banana stands on the side of the road, aren’t manned and they have eftpos ! The ice cream truck has eftpos, the lady at the port Douglas markets who sells cookies has pay options with her phone. It’s a cashless society already. The only time you need cash is to buy drugs.

BabyBackRibs17

Even then you can still payID the dealer

NikkiEchoist

That’s probably the younger generation, I guess it’s good to have all things covered!

Brettf84

Card/phone tap to pay is fine 95% of places. You might need cash if buying from a small market stall or something. And probably will need cash out in the forest.

[deleted]

cash is useless. we barter with fish and seashells up here!

BeauDelta

A large Conch or Nautilus shell in good nick will get you a decent feed for 2 people.

aussierecroommemer42

As a tourist town the overwhelming majority of businesses will accept card. Bus still requires cash (no travel cards unfortunately). If you're going up to Cape Tribulation, then some businesses will require cash. I would definitely keep some on you as backup, maybe $50

UltraSnorkel

EFTPOS/Mastercard/Visa accepted everywhere. American express/diners club (if they're still things) aren't often accepted. It's a tourist town. Smaller shops appreciate cash but won't refuse cards. Markets included. Pretty safe carrying cash during the day on your person (especially if you're in a group)... but I wouldn't be out at night with hundreds/thousands of cash (must be nice) in my pocket. There is a bit of a youth crime issue around city from what I understand.

CptClownfish1

EFTPOS?!? Cairns only got connected to the electrical grid last week!

Sufficient_Ad7865

We got that tricity stuff last year. And we gonna have a hanging and a tar& featherin on the weekend and they is free to go to. We’re just simple folk.

Justanothershitcunt

Na. Unless you’ve got stones your in trouble. We heard about this cash thing a few years ago and thought it was a joke. What’s a card?

Oldgregshoe

I think that’s what ya send ya granny for her birfday yeh?

Oldgregshoe

You are going to be up shit creek in the middle of nowhere surrounded by crocs (the animals, not the shoes. We don’t use footwear here) Most of us wear laplaps and we use leaves for dunny paper…. Or our hands. Never a good idea to shake anyone’s hand here because we don’t have soap. Bring your own if you’re into that crap. Has anyone told you about dropbears? It’s dropbear season at the moment. They take eftpos but they’re the only ones that do. Bring your own cutlery and never look anyone in the eye.

Not_RyanGosling

Mate we've got corncobs in the city now. Times have changed.

Oldgregshoe

That made me lol. Good start to the day. Thanks

chriscross89

Fractional Gold coins Best to utilise 1/10 Oz for the bus

[deleted]

Pretty much everywhere accepts card.

cairnsus1987

What is cash?

wikipedia_answer_bot

**In economics, cash is money in the physical form of currency, such as banknotes and coins. In bookkeeping and financial accounting, cash is current assets comprising currency or currency equivalents that can be accessed immediately or near-immediately (as in the case of money market accounts).** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). Cairns is still on the barter system. It's a couple days by horse to the nearest bank.

Western-Iron6145

You will 100% need cash. My dealer only accepts cash.

SomeRandomBroski
