As others have said, if it closes with no issue you're fine. However I would look into some "touch-up" paint if it's not too expensive just for the sake of corrosion prevention

ruddymccock

That was my main concern.. that it might rust. Apart from that it seems fine. Cheers!

drivadave

Have you had a look how much a replacement door would be? I’ve had a few bangs on doors and just bought new one and replaced! Make sure the colour matches & interior trim!

Advanced_Disaster133

Wouldn't be worth replacing. If really want fixed could be hammered out and touched up with a paint pen in less than an hour

ForwardAd5837

BECAUSE WIND IS A BASTARD MAN!!!

ruddymccock

Gonna D.E.N.N.I.S my partner hard after this!

mortyskidneys

Its a good starter car...

ruddymccock

My finisher car dented her starter car

Goatmanification

Wind is asshole, why u/ruddymccock hate?

Man_in_the_uk

I parked up between two cars on a windy day and held onto the door tightly so it wouldn't open up at speed into the other car... The wind dropped suddenly and then I was left accidentally pulling my door at force right into my own face and bust my lip open. I went into the shopping centre and people were staring at me like I had been in a fight.

ComplexOccam

They ought to have seen the other guy

Man_in_the_uk

LOL well I won't be making that mistake again.

[deleted]

Especially if it a follow through!

Accomplished-Ad-6158

If the door closes and you dont care for the damage or looks, you dont need to fix this.

ruddymccock

A gust of wind blew my car door into another car as my partner was getting out of the car... is this something I need to get fixed? I was quoted £450 by one chap.

iMatthew1990

You don’t need to fix this as long as door remains functional. The seals are further in the door so will stay water tight. However I do hope you’re taking care of the other persons car.

Choco_PlMP

He needs to put the other car in a blanket and kiss it on the cheek

ruddymccock

Cheers. Fortunately it was my partner's car!

iMatthew1990

Well that really is unfortunate. You can definitely get away with waiting for the funds to fix this. Might be worth applying a couple of quids worth of clear vinyl over the cracked paint to help with keeping it in place and stopping water getting behind the paint and rusting the door presuming it’s not aluminium. EBay is your friend for this, or even popping to a local wrap place and ask for a small piece of off cut. They may even give it to you for free.

ruddymccock

Cheers for the advice.. don't fancy spending £450 on it if I can help it! Even if it looks shite

muffsniffer3

If your wind did that, I think you should see a doctor..

No-Actuator-6245

What are you doing about the car that was hit?

ruddymccock

It was my partner's car

SIMEONPIE

Show us the damage to your other half’s car

ruddymccock

It's a small dent on a 2006 Fiesta.. unfortunately my door came off much worse

SIMEONPIE

I don’t believe you

Relative-Dig-7321

And?  🤣

SIMEONPIE

The statement was made, do with it as you will 🤣

Relative-Dig-7321

It did make me giggle, cheers bud!

SIMEONPIE

Ditto 🤝

Remote_Salt_1137

What's that got to do with the question asked? Granted, the fella getting down votes to oblivion didn't put it well, but he has a point. Why would you ask that unless looking to shite stir?

No-Actuator-6245

If claiming for the car that was hit then just get it fixed regardless, it’s all under 1 claim.

Remote_Salt_1137

If that had been your point, you would have said that. I'm not bothered if you were looking for a wee argument or Internet points, but at least be honest.

No-Actuator-6245

It was a bit of a loaded question depending on the answer. I’m not about to help someone if they caused damage to someone else’s car and not done the right thing. OP has provided an answer and my suggestion isn’t applicable.

Remote_Salt_1137

This feels like a "technically I'm correct" response, but fair enough.

Unless it doesn’t open / close / lock correctly or you’re looking at selling the car on anytime soon, who really cares

Aat117

I'd use some touch up paint or something to cover the metal so it doesn't rust. Otherwise it shouldn't affect functionality.

hotchy1

Poor other car

carbon895

Other car was his partners car

finnish_nobody

It doesn't "need" to get fixed, but you still should

ruddymccock

Tbh if it wasn't £450 I would.. but I'll probs attempt a bodge job!

finnish_nobody

If there is any exposed metal, it will start to rust there. As for the dent, if the door works fine and you don't mind it visually, I wouldn't do anything about it. Just check for cracks in the paint around it.

TheJoshGriffith

If there's exposed metal, it will rust and the damage will spread as it does so. Otherwise, it's your call - if the door shuts and you're happy to take the risk, that's your call.

_save_the_planet

i would hammer it back and add touch up paint to prevent rust before its to late

BitterTyke

a plumbers adjustable wrench with the jaws spearated from the metal by a cloth/tea towel/big pants and ease the door edge back to shape, and then touch in anything that doesnt have paint on

Tomabosa

Depending what car it is, might be cheaper to find a replacement door from a breaker in the same colour

DrUndecim

I'd use a Persuader (Mallet 😁 ), and a rounded piece of wood on the inside, which should put it right... touch up paint should be applied. If left with just touch-up paint on, then it may crack again in future and corrode.

TeaDependant

+1 for some gentle persuasion. On similar bends I've used softwood between the bend and mallet to to prevent indents from the mallet or overshooting. It's not always perfect but with the door closed it's not noticeable and costs a little paint.

Proof_Toe_9757

If you could fix the wind that'd be great 👍

v1de0man

:( its always worse when it cracks the paint

joe18425x

Eff wind is it wants to play they games 😠

Current_Soup9198

That is Cat S.. write the car off 😉

TotalWasteman

Few others saying if it closes it’s fine. Don’t listen. You’ve cracked the point and now have a crevice for rain / condensation to sit in. Sooner or later it’ll rust under there. Touch the paint up now and get it nice and sealed even if you’re ok with the dent itself.

ruddymccock

That was my main concern, cheers

iluvnips

Hate to see the other car?

ruddymccock

My partner's car is a 2006 Fiesta... barely had a dent in it!

Steelhorse91

Panel beater or paintless dent repair guy should be able to bend that out and get it pretty close (even though the paint is knackered) then get the door resprayed, blended into the next door and the wing (greys and silvers are tough to match).

ElegantWarthog870

If it shuts leave itif you're not worried how it looks
