Hey I also do this lol I love grabbing local snacks and drinks across the country as I go.
And then desperately trying to find them on Amazon when they tasty because I know my state ain’t gonna have them
I did this with paprika flavored Pringles when I went to Spain for study abroad, my parents visited Spain later and I had to demand some from them it's all I wanted.
[The Very Berry are the best gummy worms](https://www.trolli.com/products/crawlers/sour-brite-crawlers-very-berry) and it ain't even close. I just bought a 5lb bulk back online, zero ragrets!
[The sour Jelly Belly bags](https://www.jellybelly.com/sours-jelly-beans/c/472) are the only jelly beans I like but they can be difficult to find.
I'm not a huge chocolate fan but Take 5's are underrated if you have never tried them.
Spicy Sweet Chili is the best Dorito flavor.
The purple skittles is the best colored bag out of the three
Garden Salsa Sun Chips are better than the Chedder ones if you're watching your figure.
Sunflower seeds are also a great way to pass the time.
There is a brand (can't remember) of chips that have a "Voodoo" flavored chip that I have only recently discovered, see also; New Orleans style. They are good but very different than any other standard chip flavor, yet oddly addicting. Krunchers brand if you are going BBQ chip, no doubt about that.
Thats what I got off the top of my head. I will edit it if i think of more
I always bring a refillable bottle for water so I don’t run out of fluids, but I love having a large fountain soda (Dr. Pepper) and some pizza combos and/or slim jim’s, and a handful of tootsie roll lollipops.
If you're near a Dollar Tree, they have spectacular road snacks. Stop in and stock up.
Get the freeze dried fruit (look for the packets with no added sugar), mixed nuts and turkey jerky. Then hit the candy aisle, and grab some Buddy Bars and mini Moon Pies too.
They also have awesome retro sodas.
Roasted chickpeas or edamame! They're crunchy like nuts, come in a variety of flavors, and it's some good fiber/protein too :)
I also really like (or used to like) corn nuts, pretzels, and "combos"
Umm, I'm sorry, what? Beans *are* delicious.
There's a reason they've made it into the cuisine of pretty much every single culture on the planet.
And there's also a reason why every culture has been roasting food for all this time, it makes stuff even MORE delicious.
They're not even that healthy, still full of salt and oil but marginally better than standard gas station fare.
Besides, loading up on only junk food on a road trip is a rookie mistake. Gotta get some healthy stuff in there so you don't make yourself sick just gorging on chips and skittles and ruin the trip.
I’m in Canada so not sure if you have the same thing but the Reese’s Snack Mix with mini cups, pieces, peanuts, and pretzels. Salty and sweet…pretzels and peanuts are healthy, right?? 😅
Not that I remember seeing but you can be sure I’ll be looking now! Huge lover of salty and sweet snacks…white cheddar popcorn with caramel popcorn is another favourite but not as road trip appropriate if one enjoys a clean(ish) car.
Love white cheddar popcorn but I am partial to the Chicago style carmel corn/cheddar cheese combo. It's another good sweet salty combo.
White Cheddar goldfish are the best, better than the White Cheddar Cheezits imho. Bonus if you can find the flavore blasted white cheddar goldfish.
PB & J sandwiches on good wheat bread, Ham, various cheeses, butter/no butter on good wheat bread sandwiches.
Salty, big stick pretzels, soft chocolate chip cookies (only a few)
Water, Diet Coke, Starbucks vente dark roast, and maybe a sausage biscuit and egg and an egg biscuit from MCDs……
Add time to pick up breakfast and off we go
I made a variety of sandwiches while traveling with our 3 kids when they were younger, labeling each baggie, they still talk about it
I also like to grab vitamin-rich juice and Pedialyte/Gatorade. Sometimes, the road makes my appetite disappear, so it's good to have something nutritional that I don't have to chew.
Beef jerky always. Also seconding Pringles but pizza flavor instead. Gardettos is another one of my favorites but it makes me feel kinda full and gross after a while so sometimes I just do pretzels instead. Trail mix, pumpkin seeds, other nuts & seeds. & Gotta have some chocolate.
I get something salty like cheetos, something sweet like peach rings, and then caffeine amd water! So no matter what mood I'm in, I've got something!
Also, I'm going on a 12 hour road trip this weekend too! Safe driving!
You could put it in a good tupperware container and only open it with the window open
Honestly, though, most of the jerky I get doesn't have much aroma. Old Trapper is pretty good and isn't very smelly. It's not the sticky type, but it's not dry and fibery either (which I hate).
I always bring a refillable bottle for water so I don’t run out of fluids, but I love having a large fountain soda (Dr. Pepper) and some pizza combos and/or slim jim’s, and a handful of tootsie roll lollipops.
Little Debbie Snack Cakes are definitely a road-trip favorite in my family! I personally love the nutty buddies and zebra cakes. Also, if you stop by a Buc-ees, I love their fresh potato chips and a good BBQ sandwich. And I love the cream-cheese pretzels from Wa-Wa!
My wife and I used to road trip a lot, We would bring a portable bbq and a cooler. Find a park or even a parking lot and bbq some chicken breasts with cheese and bbq sauce on a bun. Super delicious.
I pack my snacks before I go. Multi-flavored, single serving chips ( I like the pack with Doritos, corn chips, Cheetos and popcorn), homemade beef jerky, a container of fruit ( grapes and/or berries), pre-cut cheese chunks, crackers, and something new to try ( like a flavored nut or pretzels). I pack a cooler with water and soda too. It’s cheaper to get in at a grocery store and just pack it.
Before a trip, I'll stop at a nearby Asian Market and head to the snack aisle. There's so much to choose from but current top choices are sweet rice crackers, flavored Almonds and Aerial Cheese chips which are super addictive. Yes the stuff is pricier than what you'd get a gas station but the variety is good for any craving.
I usually start with something chocolate/peanut butter and some kind of candy. Peanut butter M&Ms are my go to. Then redvines or twizzlers. And something sour like sour watermelon or sour patch kids.
Then to balance it out I'll bring a bunch of easy peel mandarins and some cut apples and grapes maybe.
I"m the driver so I like things easy and within reach
I personally like candy that comes in a bunch of small pieces. Like skittles or Trolli eggs or whatever. so I can eat them easily while driving. Mtn Dew because I have a problem. Oh I like those pizza flavored cracker things. Cant remember the name. They re like cylindrical in shape, the pizza flavor is the middle and the outside is either cracker or pretzel.
Just got back from a spring break road trip - 4 in the car - 2820 miles altogether. I always over buy the road snacks and have lots left over, but as my niece once shared with me, road trip snacks should look like a 9 year old got turned loose with $100! Here's what we brought with us: 3 different kinds of jerky, a Costco-sized bag of Pretzel Crisps, a large bag of Dot's pretzels, 2 different kinds of Pringles, dry-roasted peanuts, gummy life savers, M&Ms, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, a couple of packages of Kinder Buenos, apples and cheese sticks. We had large refillable water bottles with us and occasionally bought other beverages (coffee and Dr. Pepper). Overkill, I know - but no one goes hungry on our road trips!
Still in the shell sunflower seeds. Massive doses of salt, you get to spit the shells in a cup and it's sooooo satisfying when you get that little kernel out intact. Your girlfriend will appreciate the newfound tongue dexterity as well.
I prefer making it a part of the trip to stop at whatever gas station and going balls in there. Some of my favorite are beef jerky, boiled peanuts, combos, flavored Snyder pretzels.
Munchies are one of my favorites, corn nuts and sunflower seeds. Chewy sweet tarts, skittles, sour patch kids. I generally like a slushy or smoothie as well as some iced tea or ice water.
Minute Maid has these new things called aguas freacas, they have mango, strawberry and hibiscus. A nice mucho mango from Arizona drinks is always good too.
Some kind of jerky is classic on a road trip! (I opt for a veggie kind personally :)) a box of cookies, some kind of small crunchy snack like roasted nuts, sweet or salty. Gummy candies, and chips of course. If it’s a super long trip we make sandwiches.
Sometimes we pack a small cooler in case we buy drinks or fruit or something too!
I always like chewy road snacks road snacks, like beef jerky and twizzlers. Gives me an outlet for frustration when I’m dealing with traffic or bad drivers. I also love Life cereal by the handful as a snack.
Maybe try making your own snack mix with all of your favorites?
One thing I always have is black pepper flavored sunflower seeds. They're good to have to keep busy when you start to get a little tired or spacey. The hand-to-mouth and having to split the seeds open/discard the shells keeps me alert.
Besides that I always find myself going to beef jerky/beef sticks and fountain pop.
\*\*disclaimer\*\* I NEVER recommend driving when drowsy, but sometimes it starts to hit and you have to make it to someplace safe to stop (especially as a woman). The sunflower seeds do the trick for me.
For gas station snacks: iced tea and chips
To bring try tasty small things such as: strawberries, pretzels, trail mix, crackers
For car sickness: suck on jolly ranchers or eat anything sour
I'm learning from this that some people eat healthy road trip snacks. That takes the fun out of it.
For us it's twizzlers, sour cream and onion pringles, gummy worms, monsters, peanut m&m, gardettos. There's probably more. Lol
Am all for sub sandwiches on road trips.
My favourite (and most convenient) thus far has been to order a footlong steak sub from Subway, with 1 dash of tzatsiki dressing (forgo the barbecue sauce). Then open the sandwiches up and layer in 3 layers of Pringles sour cream and onion for crunch and flavour. Absolutely do have a big thermos of tea to go with it.
Besides potato chips, I'd say Milano cookies but you can't go wrong with trail mix. My favorites are the peanut butter parfait and chocolate caramel nut mixes from Walgreen's Nice brand
Funyuns & Big Red.
Dr Pepper
Snickers, Twix (the new salted caramel is fantastic) Whatchmacallit
Sour cream & onion chips, sour cream & cheddar chips or salt & vinegar chips
Powerbars for healthy energy around all the stops to get chips. Drink lots of water with them though or you will get backed up due to not enough movement. Don't need constipation on a trip.
Also, fruit and nut mixes. Keep the chocolate in them low. You can get all dried fruit mixes some places too.
Pretzels in their standard shape. Not straight ones. More fun to nibble.
And get the small bags of chips. They are better as a 'serving size' rather than gorging on a big bag of them.
And grab some fresh fruit and try to cut it up if you have younger family along. Healthier snacks for kids.
Things like mandarin oranges are fun to peel. And navel oranges are yummy precut into chunks.
Pork rinds with chile powder. I only ever eat pork rinds when on a road trip. Somehow they seem gross at any other time but are amazing on a road trip with some Mountain Dew.
I make up a bag of raisins, figs, pitted dates, cashews, almonds, and 70% dark chocolate chips.
I also like thick, low salt Kringle style or kettle chips.
Fruity kombucha or water if nothing else, orange juice with pulp or apple cider to drink!

Once found microwave pork rinds in South Dakota. Terrible.
We travel between PA & FL several times a year and this is my favorite as well!
Sour cream and onion Pringles, sour gummy worms, and strawberry milk
Gummy worms are way better than they have any right to be.
I used to work across the street from a gas station, and every day on my lunch break, I'd walk over and get a bag... It's not the best habit, lol.
I do that too, it's a treat for ummmm leaving the house
[The Very Berry are the best gummy worms](https://www.trolli.com/products/crawlers/sour-brite-crawlers-very-berry) and it ain't even close. I just bought a 5lb bulk back online, zero ragrets! The Voodoo flavored chips are called [Zapp’s](https://www.utzsnacks.com/collections/zapps)
Zapp's Voodoo chips are awesome!
Yes! thank you. New to me

I always bring a refillable bottle for water so I don’t run out of fluids, but I love having a large fountain soda (Dr. Pepper) and some pizza combos and/or slim jim’s, and a handful of tootsie roll lollipops.
Only time I drink fountain soda is on road trips. Gardetto's snack mix and grapes.
Same! Honestly I eat healthy most of the time, but when it’s a road trip or vacation you know I’m getting the good stuff 😉
The peanuts in a crispy, slightly sweet coating (Muncheros) are the best!
I'm going to Dollar Tree today, I'll look for those. Thanks!
Roasted chickpeas or edamame! They're crunchy like nuts, come in a variety of flavors, and it's some good fiber/protein too :) I also really like (or used to like) corn nuts, pretzels, and "combos"
Oh so you’re like healthy-healthy 😂
I mean sure, but they're also just delicious and convenient, that's why I like them
If you were motivated by delicious those wouldn’t be your choices
I like crunchy things it’s more fun texture. Lol

Healthy -healthy is someone saying Snap Peas & Carrots. I just went on a trip and a health nut friend brought these, it’s like chewing on sweet water
Corn nuts and combos were my go-to before my teeth went to shit, I miss them so much.
Roasted chickpeas are top notch they are ony list of things to try on my new air fryer
You can also roast pretty much every other kind of bean too! I've done roasted black beans in the oven before
That sounds like a good idea I've got a few different types of beans I'll have to give them a try
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels and Twizzlers.
Finally someone here is speaking my language 🙌
I’m in Canada so not sure if you have the same thing but the Reese’s Snack Mix with mini cups, pieces, peanuts, and pretzels. Salty and sweet…pretzels and peanuts are healthy, right?? 😅
Do you have Take 5 candy bars in Canada? The salty sweet combo on those is on point if you've never had one.

I'm sorry but the idea of 3 small children being so impressed by a selection of sandwiches is so funny
Cinnamon toast crunch. You need a towel or cloth for the excess cinnamon though
OP could use chopsticks to eat them 🤣
There's a YouTuber I've seen who eats Doritos with chopsticks lol, actually sounds pretty fun
Bananas, chocolate covered almonds, assorted other nuts of choice
I had chocolate covered sunflower seeds for the first time recently. Not the best chocolate covered thing I've had but better than expected.
Always a cooler within reach full of raw veggies, nuts, boiled eggs, fruit, and water.
I just have to say, a car full of people chowing down on boiled eggs and raw cauliflower sounds like a recipe for a bad time…
In winter time with the windows rolled up! Lol
I also like to grab vitamin-rich juice and Pedialyte/Gatorade. Sometimes, the road makes my appetite disappear, so it's good to have something nutritional that I don't have to chew.
My family has come to call those “purse eggs”. My small cooler bag looks like a big, old lady purse.
I’m with you on this one! I need food to sustain me. I usually throw in a pack of deli meat and cheese as well :)
In - shell sunflower seeds are my favorite for long road trips!
I get something salty like cheetos, something sweet like peach rings, and then caffeine amd water! So no matter what mood I'm in, I've got something! Also, I'm going on a 12 hour road trip this weekend too! Safe driving!
Beef jerky is definitely a must-have road trip snack. It's packed with protein and doesn't require refrigeration, so it's perfect for long drives.
Dude I love beef jerky when I’m driving alone but it smells so strong no one else in the car would let me get that 😂
😂. My friends used to complain about the smell but they are all now used to it
You could put it in a good tupperware container and only open it with the window open Honestly, though, most of the jerky I get doesn't have much aroma. Old Trapper is pretty good and isn't very smelly. It's not the sticky type, but it's not dry and fibery either (which I hate).
