I really don’t understand why people are confused by the governments messaging. It’s very consistent. Gladys says one thing today and then says the opposite two days later. That’s been very consistent.
Gladys:
We will do this without a lockdown
Lockdown lite
We need to get cases down or thousands will end up in hospital
thousands of cases will trash the economy!
green shoots!
NATIONAL EMERGENCY WE NEED ALL THE VACCINES
never mind its all good, stop worrying about cases
are you fucking serious? why is nobody calling her out on this? its a disgrace.
Yep can't say I'm mad about being wrong. Hopefully it's the beginning of a trend and not just a Tuesday dip. Let's all take the little wins when we can.
At 11:05 I checked covidlive.com.au and my jaw dropped when I saw NSW recorded 1636 cases.
I quickly went to ABC YouTube and see 818 cases reported by Gladys, then I wondered ok maybe they are spinning some BS about catching up with the negative tests and reporting previously unreported cases...so I watched Chants sidekick and nothing.
I went back and refreshed covidlive.com.au and realised it had doubled 818 cases.
Not the heart attack I needed.
Did anyone else notice this?
Apparently projections will get to 2k in October.. by then infections may be high but deaths should lower significantly due to uptake into the double dose club

"We have extended the lockdown until October"
*A few days later*
"We will be announcing what we're going to open up before September"
I guess if you play both sides, you can never lose
Can anyone tell me why Gladys and her "reporters" are obsessed with the return of kids to school? YES it's important. YES there are developmental and psychological impacts of social isolation on kids. Yes, it's a huge hassle for parents. But surely, the HSC story is becoming a bit of an obsession and ignoring every other sector also doing it tough. I guess what I am really asking is; what is the political angle here - where is the pressure really coming from. And what is the true motive. Surely, given the dire state of things in NSW, HSC students shouldn't be the first thing asked.
"THINK OF THE CHILDREN"
Pandering to parents is Politics 101:
* If you disagree or ask about something else while kids are being discussed, you're a shitbag.
* Pandering to kids generally means you get twice a much vote for your politicking: you'll get both the mum and the dad.
* Makes Gladys seem like less of a barren shrew, which is a problem for any single (at least until the Daryl shenanigans die down...) woman without kids.
Not saying I agree with this, but that's how it is.
> Makes Gladys seem like less of a barren shrew, which is a problem for any single (at least until the Daryl shenanigans die down...) woman without kids.
Remember Julia Gillard being hounded over having one piece of fruit in her fruit bowl and having the sheer gall to remain *deliberately barren*?
lol, let's vote for whomever saves us from the kids?! Could be. Personally, I reckon certain vocal sections of the community want their chardy hour back (around noon?) And Gladys? The only thing on her radar is Mr Bunnings and his neighbour Mr Norman. But enough meanness. This is the parents' lot:

Nah mate, what people hate is having to WFH while simultaneously minding small children and facilitating remote learning.
Guess what? Mission impossible as all these activities require your full attention.
So yeah, we get the pressure of the boss asking for our deliverable to be met (which means working night and wkd) on top of the pressure of teaching our children and helping them though their anxiety.
They are resilient - but they hate it just like us. My 7yo happy go lucky cries daily over this.
I’m coping. The situation isn’t ideal? Not sure what your point is.
It’s such an insight to see redditors with 0 experience with kids, parenting or teaching mansplaining others in the reality of their lives.
I don’t really get it. I adore having my kids home and always wish NT lockdowns would go longer. My kids are fucking hilarious and the coolest people I know. However, the are teenagers though, I would probably think different if they were still small. I do have a kid doing year 12 and even though we don’t lockdown for long, the constant disruptions is hard. I would much prefer a blanket “exams and exam prep are online this year”.
Kids (and most adults) do better with routine. It’s the unknown and unpredictability that worries me more than having kids isolated for 6 months.
I honestly don't know what to think. Part of me is like, yeah, it's normal to want to take a break from your kids, but the way these people are talking sometimes it's like they're upset they have to actually parent their kids.
> the way these people are talking sometimes it's like they're upset they have to actually parent their kids.
Maybe some usually outsource that to their schools?
I fucking love my kid, but being expected to work full time and parent full time and I’m not allowed to take her outside to play and she’s not allowed to see any of her friends?? And if I put on the tv so that I can do a shred of work I’m also a shitty parent, so I don’t. That’s not “upset I have to parent my kid”, that’s being put in a terrible situation with no good solutions.
I swear the way some people talk it’s like they think no parent has a full time job or a mortgage to deal with and we all have massive backyards and degrees in early childhood education.
I mean, my comment addresses that exactly. You want a break. That's what I'm saying. That's normal.
And you're not a shitty parent if you turn on the TV because you need to get other things done and can't pay attention to her every second of the day? Dude, don't feel bad, just park her in front of it for a few hours if she'll watch it that long. Don't make it harder for yourself, it's already hard as hell. <3
It's the working from home AT THE SAME TIME as having to home school that creates the stress.
Also, I am not a professional teacher. Let's say my skills are equivalent to 0.5 a real teacher in a classroom. My son is getting only half the required level of education. If home schooling continues into 2022 when my second eldest starts kindy, then it will be 0.5 teachers to 2 students.
Neither of them will be getting the required level of education. That's not even mentioning the social and other aspects of schooling that are just as important.
Yes, there are major impacts from social isolation on kids, especially compared to other age brackets. Social interactions have a major impact 0-5 and onwards. A lot of these things are not easily learnable at all later in life. With that said, yr 11/12 students would be least impacted compared to the other groupings.
Yeah I’m skeptical too, i have a young primary kid and a yr 12. They aren’t unusually special or geniuses or unnaturally resilient, and the younger one is frankly a pain in the arse trying to do zoom classes, but I also struggle to see how it’s a big deal to, you know, an existential level rather than highly inconvenient and kind of sad in terms of missed parties and school performances and so on. I used to go with my family to the bush for 6 weeks each summer and there wasn’t any socialising with other kids.
There is of course the caveat that there are kids in violent and abusive households and things are different from them, but there are plenty of people like me with normal home life where the parents are freaking out.
Reality is we are keeping them home to prevent them getting sick and prevent their teachers dying and preventing mass death and breakdown of the health system. If it has to be done then parents with internet access and room for kids to try and study really need to buckle up and deal with it. My grandparents lived through the Nazi invasions of Eastern Europe and didn’t go to school for like five years while they tried to scavenge food for their starving families, and they survived *that*. All this will more or less be over by the beginning of 2022 term 1, barring any disastrous new variants.
Take a read into the impacts of community sport on developmental attributes which are quite positive across young age groups. Kids will 'handle it', kids handle pretty much anything, doesn't mean it will be good for them.
That's a bit of a shit thing to say. I know my kid is a totally different person to who they were 8 weeks ago. Along with isolation, kids are getting waaay more screen time than they are used to (or is healthy) which is having a significant impact. They're also dealing with 8+ hours/day of rejection from their parents while they work. It IS hard on the kids (especially little ones stuck in apartments like mine).
I'm not saying this because I think kids should go back to school (I'm a teacher and fearful of returning to a full classroom), but because there is a lot of judgement on this sub from people who are not in the situation they are judging. I hope you take this as a kind empathy check.
Judgment is easy I guess. Living with kids 24/7 isn't. And will boil some parents brains. I know. I used to be one. But how does it get on the radar? Parents are complaining to politicians? Parents complaining to the press? And put cynically, why would the pollie's and press care less about parents doing it tough? You seem genuinely concerned, as you should be. But do you really think Gladys or the press is worried about the mental health of Bankstown parents and their kids? Or kids in other working class areas? Those parents have always done it tough. Or might it be because the nannies are gone? Could it be that it is interfering with lifestyles? Are they worried who gets into Uni next year. If so, then it is skewing the political discourse away from a solution (lockdown properly, wear masks, use hand sanitizer, socially distance, shut all shops, you know, all the things NOT said at the pressers) and towards the special interests of a few.
I think theyre just saying being locked down with no rest from your kids for months on end would get tiring to parents, so theres special interest on when theyre going to get them the fuck out of the house
In some parts of the world, snow locks in families for months. What do they do? I don't think they end up murdering each other, even though they might feel like it! Are we spoilt? And lost what we think we are entitled to?
Ah yes, snow locks in families for months and prevents them seeing their friends and going to school for months!! Oh wait, you mean they can still go to a friend’s house? And still go to school and play with their mates? Not really a very good comparison then is it?
No, sometimes they can't. Some families in very cold (Nordic) areas, and some isolated cultures (Inuit, Eskimos) literally see no one outside their family groups until the Spring thaw. They have strategies to assist in coping. Much has been learnt, for example, from the dynamics existing at polar base stations. NASA will use such knowledge to get a small group to Mars in a small tin can over a very long time. But look, I am not advocating such lifestyles! I am wondering why the only option is to get kids back to school *as soon as possible*. At a risk to the community, teachers and unvaccinated classmates (some will sneak through). Why not help people cope?
I think there are parents that genuinely can't cope. In which case, discourse should be around supporting them. I think currently, the political pressure is about having access to schools as child minding, and so parents can do other things. As a cynical aside, I see a world where currently everyone is clamoring for things to be THIS WAY as though it was written on their birth certificate that there should be 24/7 gyms and instant purchasing of a large double-shot latte, ½ normal espresso ½ decaf and almond milk. Somewhere, reality, and buddhist monks, are rolling eyes and snickering.
It would be good if they can just shit or get off the pot regionally, I order in expectation of no restaurants, schools or pubs being open then I’m fucked with no stock and 3-4 day turnarounds, order otherwise and I’m fucked in a month when the bills are due if nothing opens up.
All the way through the outbreak the government has stalled on hard decisions. They left the last lockdown extension in the Hunter to the day the old lockdown was meant to expire. It's frustrating for me, so I can't imagine how it would be for a business owner who needs certainty
I'd they give vaccinated people significant freedoms before young people are even eligible for the ATAGI suggested vaccine it will be incredibly unfair.
I didn't I'm not 60yo lol
I got mine late May, Pfizer. At my Mum's nursing home because they were giving it to anyone who was there at the time, visitors included.
Cmon, that’s not necessarily true I’m 33, and have contracts with aged care providers, I had to wait months to get my Jab last week, I was booked for Pfizer but when I arrived for my booked appointment I was turned away as they had “run out of stock” so I took Astra as I am now eligible for that as well… so I think a lot of people are still waiting to get the vax.
And they'll announce that there has actually been no changes after they announce the changes and that there are not tanks near Baghdad and yes that LPG-power illumination fixture has always been at that level of luminosity.
Looks likely that from November, only those vaccinated will be let out, proof will be requested in restaurants/ bars/ festivals/ sport events etc.
Individual LGAs will have reduced restrictions when it meets the vaccine target. People will be offered a reward/ stimulus once the LGA reaches it target (voucher to be used in your LGA).
So from that I gather we’re in it til Nov at least
Gladys literally said today that this week they will be announcing new freedoms for fully vaccinated people, due to the fact they've hit the 6m jabs projection for end of August..
Well sir/madam I've been pretending my kitchen table is a bar and my stuffed penguin is a tough looking bartender and consuming alcohol standing up for months ah !
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure they haven't mentioned schools not going back in September until today.
GB casually throws it out there and then acts like the reporter is crazy for bring up the fact that she hasn't mentioned it before.
She didn't say whether she was including all of NSW or just greater Sydney.
I am going to paraphrase here
Reporter: "Why can't you give parents some clarity today so they can plan the rest of the year?"
GB then talks about waiting to receive the best advice from Health and Education and at the end she adds "That's why we want to provide certainty for September. So obviously September doesn't change for what is happening for schools. In terms of when schools are likely to go back, we will provide that information as soon as it is made available."
If I were a journalist these are the questions I would be asking Gladys (in no particular order):
1) Given the handling of the Ruby Princess situation lead to seeding covid across the country, why hasn’t the NSW government implemented any meaningful learnings from the RP enquiry?
2) Why are you incapable of deviating from your talking points to provide genuine answers, even when it clearly is damaging your credibility?
3) Do you believe preserving your political reputation and position as Premier is more important than maintaining state unity during the current crisis?
4) Some weeks ago mention was made of releasing relevant documents including but not limited to the health advice but these documents are yet to emerge. Why are you refusing to release these documents?
5) Why have you continually refused to provide specifics when questioned, even by sympathetic journalists?
6) You previously mentioned avoiding thousands of cases a day as a key success in your early response. We now have 1000s of cases and are approaching a thousand cases a day. How do you explain failing to meet the metric you set for your government?
6) Why are your press conferences still invite only when spreading correct information is key in this pandemic? You are limiting the potential for dissemination for your message, are you afraid of being questioned?
7) Previous press conferences have seen you and your team attribute rising case numbers to non compliance in the community. At the same time you have also praised the community for their response. Without mentioning vaccinations, do you concede this is a mixed message?
8) Why is non compliance dealt with differently depending on location? Are you and your government targeting non Caucasian ethnicities?
9) Your health minister has said in previous press conferences that the health system is under some stress. This has also been verified by a number of essential medical personnel. Yet you are saying the regional hospital system is more than capable despite patients already being moved from Sydney to other hospitals. If case numbers inevitably spike, what concrete details can you provide about what will be done to manage serious regional cases?
10) You have mentioned a number of times the intent for students to sit their HSC as normal this year. How do you guarantee all students will have equal circumstances given the piecemeal vaccination approach to that age group?
11) What about the HSC was so meaningful to you that you prioritise it above the well-being of the teachers and students in NSW?
12) You have said for 9 weeks there is no plan for managing delta, but now that you have direct experience of an outbreak of delta on your state, what will you do differently during the next variant or next pandemic?
13) There have been articles in Murdoch owned press advising you to resign. Do you concede that if you lose the Murdoch press you have lost your key support?
14) What is the reason for your hyper competitive stance towards the other states? You claim we’re all one nation but seem to view the pandemic as a competition.
15) Your lack of clear concise answers suggest a lack of respect for the people of NSW. Will you show your respect for your citizens by providing clear direct answers in future?
I could think of more but now my fingers are tired.
16) Why have you failed to communicate with culturally and linguistically diverse people in their own languages? Why have you not enlisted the help of trusted CALD community leaders?

> 15) Lol not relevant and not being answered (nor by any premier).
So of the brain dump, 3 questions come out that can be asked with a response expected after being worded into a non accusatory form. I agree that much more time can be used to answer questions but a 13 q+ dump of accusations is something you leave for parliament.
As a journalist here’s how this goes in practice.
Pick 1 - it’s the only one you’ll likely get to ask.
Response to almost all of these would be ‘next question’.
The issue is the talent (in this case recurring) and source. Government authorities at this level will give you only the narrative they prescribe and won’t deviate from their key messaging. If there’s potential to be caught out by something, they’ll deflect.
There is absolute value in journalists clarifying important points, protocols, procedures and holding the authorities to account in their questioning and subsequent publications. These pressers are an important back and forth in that regard.
The reality is not all your questions will be answered, especially if they’re pointed, personal or vitriolic (even if warranted).
Your goal as a journalist is to convey the information that is in the public interest, in this case with particular focus on key health messaging.
The political side of this is definitely a story in its own right, and can be held to account alongside this saga.
Can I just say, we're all tired. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we need to live as safely and as freely as possible. That's why it's so important we get vaccinated.
\- Gladys
People on here claim all they want is neutral journalism but they're liars. They're just salty there's no mainstream left-wing publication to speak of. I mean it's pretty obvious why... only old people read newspapers so there's no reason to generate a paper for younger people (people say it's a big Murdoch conspiracy even though really it's just serving their target market).
In terms of online publications there's The Guardian, but that's pretty damn biased in the other direction.
Instead I'm meant to believe that Sky News is some central haven for all news in Australia even though it's behind a paywall for most of the country and it isn't really trying to trick anyone into thinking it's not of conservative biased.
I'd argue the other side is far more sneaky where they try and pretend their opinions aren't politically biased and instead imply if you don't agree with them, there's something wrong with you/you're mentally challenged etc.
> I’d argue the other side is far more sneaky where they try and pretend their opinions aren't politically biased and instead imply if you don't agree with them, there's something wrong with you/you're mentally challenged etc.
Both sides do this though. Right-wing talk shows are notorious for poking fun at “woke lefties”, pretending they are stupid and don’t understand economics, mentally ill, etc. And don’t get me started on right-wing commentary about “climate alarmism”, it takes a special lack of self-awareness to truly believe that everybody is crazy except them.
Yes but "woke-lefties" acknowledges that you're looking at the other side politically and making fun of them.
Reddit tries to indoctrinate people who don't know anything about politics and teach them that there's the "correct" way of thinking and then other ways of thinking that are bad and evil (they stay away from left/right unless it comes up). They conveniently leave out that they're basically just following their own ideology that is just their interpretation of things.
I'm also not talking about this sub in particular, all said and done the mods here are fairer and less biased then on others in terms of handing out bans etc. which is probably why it is more heated in here at the moment.
Any online discussion space you participate in has some kind of bias. Choose wisely. I intentionally subscribe to a bunch of subreddits that actively piss me off, just so I can be exposed to other views.
Letting her rip when the kids aren't vaxed is clearly not without risk.
[https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/infant-infected-with-covid-currently-in-icu-in-victoria-as-cases-rise/news-story/31ce41bda550269f95c6ba313d3f6acc](https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/infant-infected-with-covid-currently-in-icu-in-victoria-as-cases-rise/news-story/31ce41bda550269f95c6ba313d3f6acc)
Not to mention the rest of the country!
This idea of one state getting to 70% first and just letting it rip before the other states are ready is ridiculous. The whole country needs to be vaccinated at the same rate.
Can acknowledge risks without the hyperbole you know. Maybe an "it's sad, but it's inevitable, a few children will die but it's a cost we have to bear". That'd be a more genuine way to approach it, I'd have thought.
And I'm saying you can discuss that with them without going full hyperbole, ignoring their concerns altogether. There are risks/costs going forward, you should be willing to accept and discuss them - otherwise it can feel like you're not properly facing them yourself, like they're "someone else's problem", one you haven't actually considered.
That does little to alleviate other's concerns, it really only encourages people already thinking like you are, pushing tensions further.
Im sorry that I don't have a lot of patience for the child argument.
Kids just dont die of covid so parents are looking for other reasons to stress out that their little angel is going to get a runny nose a cry a bit
Like seriously sweet fuck all kids die of covid. We should be celebrating that fact
The NHS is setting up [15 paediatric long covid clinics](https://www.england.nhs.uk/2021/06/nhs-sets-up-specialist-young-peoples-services-in-100-million-long-covid-care-expansion/) - is this something we acknowledge, or do we simply dismiss any concerns outright, saying "freedom from lockdowns should be celebrated"?
I still think you can discuss this in good faith, without simply dismissing anything you find inconvenient. Again, I don't see how doing so is supposed to help people that don't already think the same as you.
Yeah, if a child does die needlessly we should stay in lockdown.
Your argument is it doesn't matter if a few sick kids die (who might have otherwise recovered) if whatever pain the lockdown is causing you is eased just a bit.
KIDS DONT DIE OF COVID
fuck me the states had an infant mortality rate of 0.00%-0.03% depending on the state
You want to get worked up about this. It's fear mongering.
You're legitimately spreading misinformation. While the risks are incredibly low, it is not as safe as Pfizer. The study you're undoubtedly referencing does not take into account TTS nor has it been peer reviewed.
I'm not even surprised anymore. If people want to read a headline and call it a day then whatever but people reading that headline and spreading misinformation can get fucked.
Making bold statements about medical decisions people should make with no background history, no context and not even having read the journal is just fucking dangerous. They are just as bad as anti-vaxers.
[Peer reviewed study that found "incidents of rare blood clots – or thrombosis – happened at a “similar” rate with both vaccines." ](https://inews.co.uk/news/health/astrazeneca-vaccine-blood-clot-risk-pfizer-covid-jab-study-1127179)
Again, it is not adequately peer reviewed and it does not cover TTS which is where the increase in AZ clots comes from. How about you go read the actual fucking study instead of a news article.
OK, it's not peer reviewed as I first thought, but if you had 'read the fucking study' you would realise it does cover TTS.
[Here is an expert review of the study](https://www.sciencemediacentre.org/expert-reaction-to-preprint-looking-at-thromboembolic-events-and-thrombosis-with-thrombocytopenia-after-covid-19-infection-and-after-pfizer-biontech-or-oxford-astrazeneca-vaccination/)
Did you actually read what you've linked? The data captured regarding the increased risk of TTS associated with AZ is inconclusive. This is because the condition is extremely rare and the study's sample size was not large enough to make a conclusion.
Honestly fucking hats off to you for owning up to it man. This shits not easily understood and very easy to misinterpret, even by people who are trained in the field of med science.
I did skim read them, but I'm not the best at reading scientific literature, the first link said peer reviewed and I took that at face value, then searched for TSS and saw it being spoken about, but obviously not in enough detail 🤷.
The latest Australian figures of 6 deaths in 7.4 million doses I think speaks volumes though, I can certainly understand that.
But yea been in plenty of debates with people on this sub who pull links out their arse without reading or understanding them so I get your frustration, it's only right I hold my hands up and admit I'm wrong.
Depends where you live, took ages to find a booking. Unfortunately there's still many that only want Pfizer or can't take AZ, at least they want a vaccine. Definitely keen on getting a booster once they're available
COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca can be used in adults aged under 60 years where the benefits are likely to outweigh the risk and the consumer has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits.
So what you're saying is its better to wait for the Pfizer than get astrazenica now?
[Yes. It. Is. ](https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/covid-19-vaccination-weighing-up-the-potential-benefits-against-risk-of-harm-from-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca)
Individual and societal benefits of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca In these 3 scenarios, the benefits of vaccination with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca in preventing severe COVID-19 outweigh the potential risks in:
older adults in the low exposure risk scenario all adults in the medium and high exposure risk scenarios.
Aka it is recommended for people under 40 to have astrazenica in Victoria and nsw
That document clearly shows the benefits outweigh the negatives of having AZ. It doesn't say it's as safe as Pfizer. And it still recommends having Pfizer if you're under 60. Is it a good idea to have AZ? Yes, is it a better idea to have Pfizer? Yes. If you have to wait for Pfizer should you? It depends.
If you live in the LGAs of concern, try Sonic Health as they are also running clinics administering Pfizer and ive seen slots free at their Hurstville hub next week.
I want to know whose in ICU. AGE GROUPS?
And vax status…
I really don’t understand why people are confused by the governments messaging. It’s very consistent. Gladys says one thing today and then says the opposite two days later. That’s been very consistent.
The same with Scott Morrison.

So next three days - 1030, 1080, 1050?
It would be in the 1200s.
400s, 600s, 800s ... Then 1000s surely? (Remembering that we are working off a pattern of the last 9 days, and not any actual maths.)
It's exponential growth so I would expect 1200 but I would be really happy to be proven wrong.
You're wrong and I'm wrong, hooray!!
Yep can't say I'm mad about being wrong. Hopefully it's the beginning of a trend and not just a Tuesday dip. Let's all take the little wins when we can.
Hope not. I guess only time will tell.
Lag in reported results? Some lab only sending aggregate numbers through every few days?
Each block of 3 days starts with the **same digit**.
That too.
Same here, I shared the number to a friend then refreshed and it was back to 818 again. Gave us both a shock.
Oooh, I was so close. Maybe tomorrow.
!RemindMe 11 days
I've just been reminded. Deaths considerably larger. A few more cases too. Didn't age great.
Yeah we almost hit double. So close. There’s always tomorrow I guess. ^This ^sucks ^so ^much.
Mate I'm sorry. I am so angry for you, and for all of Australia. This situation has been all shades of fucked up.
Well what keeps me sane is that WE HAVE VACCINES. Tick tock delta you piece of shit.
Apparently projections will get to 2k in October.. by then infections may be high but deaths should lower significantly due to uptake into the double dose club
Yeah, it really just is what it is at this point. Get whatever vaccine you can get and hold on.
Morbid!

"We have extended the lockdown until October" *A few days later* "We will be announcing what we're going to open up before September" I guess if you play both sides, you can never lose
"THINK OF THE CHILDREN" Pandering to parents is Politics 101: * If you disagree or ask about something else while kids are being discussed, you're a shitbag.
This is the parents' lot: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrTrYK6Xz5I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrTrYK6Xz5I)

[удалено]
I’m coping. The situation isn’t ideal? Not sure what your point is. It’s such an insight to see redditors with 0 experience with kids, parenting or teaching mansplaining others in the reality of their lives.
It’s possible to cope with something and still hate it.
So why do people keep having kid after kid yet can't stand to spend a lot of time with them? I don't get it.
[удалено]
Not to mention their has been a rise in Child Protection cases with kids at home more.
[удалено]
Any word on the work permits that were announced on Friday?
New freedoms for fully vaccinated to be announced tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas/guesses?
You can get your hair cut.
Oh yes please.
Never appreciated my Wahl clipper more...gave myself a haircut today, as it happens lol
Sincerely tempted to steal the dog's clippers and just go a number 3 all over. Or, you know, whatever the dog equivalent of a number 3 is.
It goes: bald dog, smooth dog, fluffy dog, curly dog, shaggy dog, mop. So I guess number 3 is fluffy dog 🐶
I'd they give vaccinated people significant freedoms before young people are even eligible for the ATAGI suggested vaccine it will be incredibly unfair.
Everyone can get AZ.
Can they? Regional NSW 27 yo can't get vaxed
AZ is open to everyone over 18
60yo in the regions can't even get it though lol
You probably shouldn’t have fucked around and put off getting the shot when it’s been available to you for so long then
I didn't I'm not 60yo lol I got mine late May, Pfizer.
For good reason!
So people should be locked up longer than they need to be because fair?
I'd suggest young people should tell the government to get fucked and do what they want at that point.
Browsing Harvey Norman for furniture/electrical alliances you don't really need with impunity.
Loitering with purpose
All I can tell you is that whatever is announced will change 3 to 4 times before coming into effect.
And they'll announce that there has actually been no changes after they announce the changes and that there are not tanks near Baghdad and yes that LPG-power illumination fixture has always been at that level of luminosity.
Some sort of 'casino bubble'?
Looks likely that from November, only those vaccinated will be let out, proof will be requested in restaurants/ bars/ festivals/ sport events etc. Individual LGAs will have reduced restrictions when it meets the vaccine target. People will be offered a reward/ stimulus once the LGA reaches it target (voucher to be used in your LGA). So from that I gather we’re in it til Nov at least
So if you're vaxed and your LGA is full of antivaxers you'd be screwed!
Welp, there goes Byron lol
Gladys literally said today that this week they will be announcing new freedoms for fully vaccinated people, due to the fact they've hit the 6m jabs projection for end of August..
good. we need something. all ive done for the last 9 weeks is work and jerk off and quite frankly my little dick cant handle any more of this abuse.
Vertical consumption of alcohol.
Well sir/madam I've been pretending my kitchen table is a bar and my stuffed penguin is a tough looking bartender and consuming alcohol standing up for months ah !
I miss the old days
"Back in my day you could consume alcohol vertically!"
Total active cases wasn't updated.yesterday was 9,657. Shouldn't NSW be on the 10k club now?
The ABC is reporting 10,984 active COVID-19 cases in NSW. I think we're in the club!
Can I just say, well done Gladys and Hazzard! well fuckin done! /s "well at least we're not 100k." - Gladys, for sure.
The general population: "Hold my beer"
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure they haven't mentioned schools not going back in September until today. GB casually throws it out there and then acts like the reporter is crazy for bring up the fact that she hasn't mentioned it before.
Also known as "gaslighting"
I missed the presser. Would you know if it was all nsw schools or just greater Sydney?
She didn't say whether she was including all of NSW or just greater Sydney. I am going to paraphrase here Reporter: "Why can't you give parents some clarity today so they can plan the rest of the year?" GB then talks about waiting to receive the best advice from Health and Education and at the end she adds "That's why we want to provide certainty for September. So obviously September doesn't change for what is happening for schools. In terms of when schools are likely to go back, we will provide that information as soon as it is made available."
Ah so the usual lack of detail. Thanks!
Does anyone know how they got 300k tests done? Are they using rapid antigen tests and including those or something?
A lot were backlogs. There were a bunch of known negative tests which just weren’t plugged into the system
Ok. I thought 300000 was a massive effort.
Ok that makes sense, cheers

Yes
All the people who had a 1000 joke are sure disappointed.
Wednesday spike incoming still :)
It’s only Monday friend!
Theres always tomorrow
we will absolutely skip the 900s. NSW rocks!!
It seems it's peaked in NSW. good work from the NSW Health and Gladys
Peaked? Bruh they're talking about opening shit up
Shut up Brad.
Remember when we thought that 90s day was the peak.. hahah..ha...aa.. fuck.
I'm sorry what? I hope this is sarcasm.
Phew... I thought NSW were F**ked.
>It seems it's peaked in NSW ?
You forgot the /s
If I were a journalist these are the questions I would be asking Gladys (in no particular order): 1) Given the handling of the Ruby Princess situation lead to seeding covid across the country, why hasn’t the NSW government implemented any meaningful learnings from the RP enquiry?
> If I were a journalist these are the questions I would be asking Gladys (in no particular order): > > 1) Relevant 8 weeks ago > > 2) Not relevant > > 3) Not Relevant > > 4) Fair > > 5) Not Relevant > > 6a) Relevant but not well worded > > 6b) Not Relevant on invite only provides clearer instructions. Could very well argue that more question time means less key information being spread. > > 7) There is no mixed messaging here, you can thank the community for doing their part whilst raising those that aren't. > > 8) Your questions is 'Are you and your government racist?' That is never being answered. > > 9) Fair > > 10) Their approach is providing equality to all HSC students. The less the advantage of infrastructure that comes from city internet the better. > > 11) Dont want kids to fail their biggest exams. > > 12) Not relevant. Asking for milestones now would also give the 80% figure > > 13) Never being answered by any politician of any affiliation > > 14) Never being answered with the answer you want. 'We're all working with own set of circumstances in the other break. NSW maintains its same stance to boarders since the start of pandemic....etc etc' > > 15) Lol not relevant and not being answered (nor by any premier). So of the brain dump, 3 questions come out that can be asked with a response expected after being worded into a non accusatory form. I agree that much more time can be used to answer questions but a 13 q+ dump of accusations is something you leave for parliament.
First let me just say, the importance of vaccination ...... pffft. All questions answered.
I suspect you'd get a knock on the door later from some goons... I mean... Anti terror police.
As a journalist here’s how this goes in practice. Pick 1 - it’s the only one you’ll likely get to ask. Response to almost all of these would be ‘next question’.
with all due respect, what the fuck is the point of them then?
[удалено]
110% agenda based but at least those questions are better than the softball shit half of the journos serve up each day
Agreed but i'm so tired of her shit
So err, it’s 70% now?
Goes down by 1% per day lol
Redditors tomorrow: > Nice
So by the time we hit 6million jabs we should be free to live life like before eh? I see what she’s doing…
Letting her rip when the kids aren't vaxed is clearly not without risk. [https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/infant-infected-with-covid-currently-in-icu-in-victoria-as-cases-rise/news-story/31ce41bda550269f95c6ba313d3f6acc](https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/infant-infected-with-covid-currently-in-icu-in-victoria-as-cases-rise/news-story/31ce41bda550269f95c6ba313d3f6acc)
Not to mention the rest of the country! This idea of one state getting to 70% first and just letting it rip before the other states are ready is ridiculous. The whole country needs to be vaccinated at the same rate.
Do you consider 3000 cases a day to be letting it rip?
It seems like us “Doomers” were correct when we were horrified at Gb wanting to steal other states vaccines
Oh fuck! 1 child in the ICU! That's it, no more risks. Lockdown for life!
Can acknowledge risks without the hyperbole you know. Maybe an "it's sad, but it's inevitable, a few children will die but it's a cost we have to bear". That'd be a more genuine way to approach it, I'd have thought.
I agree - being honest up front prepares people for the inevitable.
It really isn't. There are too many folks around that think that if locking down an extra month will save a child's life then we should do it
And I'm saying you can discuss that with them without going full hyperbole, ignoring their concerns altogether.
Kids just dont die of covid so parents are looking for other reasons to stress out that their little angel is going to get a runny nose a cry a bit Like seriously sweet fuck all kids die of covid.
They are doing that without vaccinating their children, something worth thinking about
Yeah, if a child does die needlessly we should stay in lockdown. Your argument is it doesn't matter if a few sick kids die (who might have otherwise recovered) if whatever pain the lockdown is causing you is eased just a bit.
KIDS DONT DIE OF COVID fuck me the states had an infant mortality rate of 0.00%-0.03% depending on the state You want to get worked up about this. It's fear mongering.
I love how every single answer is vaccinations, or a segue to vaccinations
Can’t have an AZ fire sale when it’s free.
She needs to stop the arrogant scoff when she's answering questions.
Is she still doing that?
But what would we complain about
What do you think the cases will be at by the end of the week?
~1,100
My guess is 1250

Still quite disheartening to see such numbers and still can't book in a Pfizer vaccine, unless I wait til the end of November....
If only there was another vaccine that's got plenty of availability and now proven to be just as safe as Pfizer
You're legitimately spreading misinformation. While the risks are incredibly low, it is not as safe as Pfizer. The study you're undoubtedly referencing does not take into account TTS nor has it been peer reviewed.
Yep. Reading this sub is the only thing in the world which makes me sympathise with anti-vaxers, if that is possible.
I'm with you until the end on this one.
OK, I stand corrected
If only it was recommended to breastfeeding mothers....oh wait, it's not.
Yet that's not the advice from ATAGI.
COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca can be used in adults aged under 60 years where the benefits are likely to outweigh the risk and the consumer has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits. So what you're saying is its better to wait for the Pfizer than get astrazenica now?
[Yes. It. Is. ](https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/covid-19-vaccination-weighing-up-the-potential-benefits-against-risk-of-harm-from-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca)
That's an interesting read. It still says the preferred vaccine for under 60s is Pfizer though.
Individual and societal benefits of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca In these 3 scenarios, the benefits of vaccination with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca in preventing severe COVID-19 outweigh the potential risks in: older adults in the low exposure risk scenario all adults in the medium and high exposure risk scenarios.
It depends.
Your comment I disagreed with said that getting AZ wasn't the advice of the ATAGI. That's all I disagreed with
Ok but that isn't what I said. ATAGI are still saying it's recommended for young people to get Pfizer because it's safer. My point is still correct.
If you live in the LGAs of concern, try Sonic Health as they are also running clinics administering Pfizer and ive seen slots free at their Hurstville hub next week.
