Yeah, kind of extreme to move your window to the other side and get a mirror image of the same sink in a different color just because of some water damage
These images are so fucking weird. I was looking at the electrical outlet holes to see which set is mirrored, and neither of them are mirrored. I wonder if they flipped the vanity on the sink?
Two bathrooms on either side pipes were spraying water inside the walls anytime someone showered completely rotted the wall all the 2x4s and support joists in the basement. The surface looked okay but it was real structural damage.
You did a really great job, I’m not gonna talk shit about the remodel because the remodel is damn good. BUT it really bums me out seeing more and more classic beautiful vintage pink bathrooms meet their end.
I totally get that. My bathroom looked very similar to your before. We're currently remodeling. There was no waterproofing, the mold behind the tile was horrendous.
You gotta do what you gotta do
Wait, you reused the same sink vanity though. And found a new sink bowl in the same asymmetric design in a cream color, or did you paint the pink sink bowl or something?
You just reminded me of a random event in my life. The bathroom in my childhood home was also the same shade of pink on the tiles, tub, vanity, and toilet. My parents decided to replace the toilet. The plumber took the old toilet outside and our next door neighbor saw it. She came over and said "oh my gosh, you have the same pink toilet!". Apparently both of our bathrooms were the same color, and their toilet tank was cracked for years and they couldn't find a replacement. So the neighbors took our pink toilet and everyone was happy.
oof. old fashioned pink and avocado- i'll take my hits for being lamestream with these. not into them. the pink makes me feel like im in an old hospital bathroom or something.
Here's where I'm at: I can understand their charm, and laud anyone who's able to work with them.
That said, it seems like this sub is SO QUICK to crucify anyone who pulls out 1950s tile. I'm guessing that they've never lived the reality of aging 1950s tile, which in my current home means lots of resetting, regrouting, and rechecking the tiles to make sure you haven't missed any that have become loose since the last check. We haven't gotten to the bathroom yet, but the old crumbly tile will be coming out. A house is enough to keep up with without having to realize you've missed a tile and now you have water in the basement.
The first house I purchased (built in 1974, we purchased in 2002) had a pepto bismol pink tile bathroom. Same bathroom had a 1970's medicine cabinet, rose colored carpet, and a window over the tub. And no, it wasn't frosted glass. It was the only bathroom in the house.
We gutted that bathroom to bare studs and fully remodeled it. I didn't hate the pink tile but anyone who thought it a good idea to put a window in the shower and carpet in a bathroom is a common idiot.
It wasn't too bad since it already had been secured on the wall before little learning curve with the wax ring but otherwise we got it! If it was wall toilet from scratch forget itll also hard to find these toliets
they have become quite common in the Netherlands.
Ah i see now the water tank is not embedded in the wall. Its more usual where i live to ecanspsulate the tank and then there is a mechanism to hook the bowl onto.
EXACTLY. But this home was built in the mid 50s, and I know my very handy Hub will tell me that our plumbing/walls are not fit for that, and to make them fit would be extremely expensive when I've been toe-mopping a clorox wipe around the base every Saturday for all my life.
(I can pinch your leg with my toes. My right big toe is prehensile. My kid and my sister think it's creepy and maybe it is, but it's damned useful too.)
Certainly wouldn't be a cheap change. Your drain pipe is currently in the floor, and it'd have to move to the wall. You're talking pulling up some floor and tearing out some wall minimum, and once you're in that far you start to go, "Well I might as well redo all the flooring and all the walls now," and then you're into a full gut job lol
Yep. And at the height of the pandemic we redid my bathrom, ripping out the tub, doing a new floor, and changing the orientation of the toilet.
We done.
I once thought about buying a home with pink and black tile and my mom was telling me it would be hard to update. I was like...update? Why the hell would I do that. I still think about thst bathroom.
I had no idea there was a name for the color of the girls’ school bathrooms from elementary school. Seeing this wiki page has teleported me back in time
All tile basically lasts forever it's just everything around it that goes bad. Looks like the pink tile had some issues with waterproofing or something also as they mixed in white.
Waterproofing, pluming , fixtures etc all fail first
Good job - don’t like the style but good job. I don’t get why so many people wanted you to keep the old look - it was super dated and… fucking pink? But…
You said the old one had water damage..
Where is the exhaust vent?
I hope you saved the tiles and tub. We had a contractor offer us 2000$ for the tub and 2 dollar per tile. They are hard to find and have a resale market.
I love the discord over this. I really want both sides of this debate to live in the same house and see what the aesthetic becomes. I love it when I take something "permanent" down like a bathroom mirror and find like 4 or 5 competing colors from years ago as new homeowners decide to repaint but leave just enough for you to see what it was.
I have that showerhead, I love it. However I do have hard water and thus occasionally find myself milked the calcium deposits out of the upper head every few months.
Bathrooms looks good.
The pink wasn't bad but I do like that you kept the curved edge of the counter so there aren't too many hard angles (personal preference). You did a good job!
It’s weird. Every single time someone posts a remodel of one of these ugly, tired, extremely dated pink bathrooms in this sub, people lose their minds. I get having a preference but people here routinely act is if they’ve been personally slighted by someone else’s bathroom.
I have the same pink tile in mine. Plastic on plaster over stucco with metal mesh. Curse and damn the people who built it. Trying to remove as we speak
When I saw the pink tiles I knew people were gonna come at you in the comments for replacing them. I, too, replaced pink in my home and got the same response lol. I’m a huge fan of the green and gold combo. Do you plan to do anything with the white wall?
I think you've done a fantastic job!! I'm sure that was a lot of work and it definitely paid off!! I'd love to see a pic once the shower door is put up. Maybe you could do an update for this post once door is installed? Again, great job!
Hiragana chart probably for the kids, japanese toilet, are you an american japanese? Also, I can imagine this modern design will one day get as old and out of fashion as the pink one. Thought it is great looking
You did a great job. The hunter green was what we chose as accent walls in the late 90’s so not my thing (especially when we had to put 10 coats to cover it later on) but if that’s your thing, well done.
It's so sad that you had water damage and had to get rid of that amazing pink tile! I would have looked so cool with black accents. New bathroom is fine but looks generic, like a hotel.
Why are the after images mirrored?
This, I was thinking 'that's some remodel, they've completely changed the bathroom around '
Can you tell us more about the water damage? What happened? How did you discover it? I know Water damage hiding in my walls keeps me up at night.
Two bathrooms on either side pipes were spraying water inside the walls anytime someone showered completely rotted the wall all the 2x4s and support joists in the basement. The surface looked okay but it was real structural damage.
So, a shower inside of the wall every time you took a shower there. Went on for years? Epic. Nice turn around.
Similar thing happened to me. One day it just started raining in the kitchen.
It’s cool for a few days….. then a smart person breaks the news.
You did a really great job, I’m not gonna talk shit about the remodel because the remodel is damn good. BUT it really bums me out seeing more and more classic beautiful vintage pink bathrooms meet their end.
This one was unavoidable because of the severe rot in the 2x4s and floor joists
I totally get that. My bathroom looked very similar to your before. We're currently remodeling. There was no waterproofing, the mold behind the tile was horrendous. You gotta do what you gotta do
Same here.
Ah, what a shame, that was such a classic bathroom, but at least your new one looks great. LOL, I'd frost that window...
They can't charge for the peep show then.
The world has balance
Nothing better than a used toilet. Bleach kills everything.
Our first rental house in San Jose CA had exactly this tile, always liked it.
oof. old fashioned pink and avocado- i'll take my hits for being lamestream with these. not into them. the pink makes me feel like im in an old hospital bathroom or something.
Pepto bismol is what that reminds me of.
Here's where I'm at: I can understand their charm, and laud anyone who's able to work with them. That said, it seems like this sub is SO QUICK to crucify anyone who pulls out 1950s tile. I have a pink bath downstairs, but it's just tiles and paint, I'm not sure what to do, as I don't love a how it's placed and hate the fixtures.
Sir, i think you need help if you think those pink bathrooms are examples of "beautiful vintage".
I would love to have that pink bathroom
I also appreciate how that old style looks, but would die before I let it exist in my own home lol
It’s much better without the pink.
I disagree. It’s basic af now.
The new version is pretty bland. Bland is still better than Pepto-Bismol tile.
To each his own. I actually like the old aesthetic 1000 times better.
I still have a pink one, I'm going to redo the sink with something pink
The first house I purchased (built in 1974, we purchased in 2002) had a pepto bismol pink tile bathroom. Same bathroom had a 1970's medicine cabinet, rose colored carpet, and a window over the tub. It’s heartbreaking! (No slam on OP)
I'd have a hard time trusting a toilet bowl hanging off the wall at home. Looks good though
Much easier to clean around it 😂
The Roomba can go nuts sucking up my pubes.
How did the install go for the toilet?
It wasn't too bad since it already had been secured on the wall before little learning curve with the wax ring but otherwise we got it! If it was wall toilet from scratch forget itll also hard to find these toliets
they have become quite common in the Netherlands. Ah i see now the water tank is not embedded in the wall. Its more usual where i live to ecanspsulate the tank and then there is a mechanism to hook the bowl onto.
WALL TOILET! I want one.
Sooooo nice for cleaning and mopping bathrooms
EXACTLY. But this home was built in the mid 50s, and I know my very handy Hub will tell me that our plumbing/walls are not fit for that, and to make them fit would be extremely expensive when I've been toe-mopping a clorox wipe around the base every Saturday for all my life. The [Baker-Miller Pink](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baker-Miller_pink) was a real vibe tho; tragic to excise it
My bathroom in my 1958 house still has it, with black accent tiles. I love it.
I once thought about buying a home with pink and black tile and my mom was telling me it would be hard to update. I was like...update? Why the hell would I do that. I still think about thst bathroom.
> [AKA] **Drunk-Tank Pink** is a tone of pink which has been observed to temporarily **reduce hostile, violent or aggressive behavior.** Amazing
Wow, didn't know it had a name. Our main bathroom has the salmon pink tiles and avocado green sink and tub. You're right, it's definitely a vibe.
I had no idea there was a name for the color of the girls’ school bathrooms from elementary school. Seeing this wiki page has teleported me back in time
Agreed. I like the remodel tho
How do you plan on hanging a shower curtain or installing a shower door?
Custom L shaped shower door
Those tiles were in my parent's shower circa 1960.
Mine too!
People that love these old bathrooms rarely live with them. You did well sir.
Tbh I kinda like the old style but I get why you remodeled. I was about to suggest a shower door before I read the capti on
Not being sarcastic here: could you tell me what your title was *supposed* to say? I don't think it's published how you intended.
Guy = gut
[удалено]
Lol yeah I forgot to fix it sorry!
Did the Hiragana poster make the cut? 😂
Yes!
I genuinely think it looks fantastic and don't understand why everyone is so upset. You did a great job op!
Because everyone in this subforum has some obsession with keeping 60 year old bathrooms intact.
Thank you!!!
The remodel looks good. Shame because those pepo- pink tiles would've lasted another 100 years. Ugly, yes to most, but near indestructible.
All tile basically lasts forever it's just everything around it that goes bad. Looks like the pink tile had some issues with waterproofing or something also as they mixed in white. Waterproofing, pluming , fixtures etc all fail first
Our house we just got has tiles like this in both bathrooms, one is blue and one is green. I'm not changing them no matter what family might say
Honestly I think pink tiles could be stylish again. Not like that bathroom was, but I think it could be done.
I've seen some interior designers using pink tiles more recently, it can look really pretty
Ugh sir, I think you forgot the vanity cabinet and the sink.
Budget constraints
No, I love that you kept that. No reason to chuck such a perfect counter+sink combo into the landfill.
I vote for keeping the cabinet and just replacing the top.
Good job - don’t like the style but good job. I don’t get why so many people wanted you to keep the old look - it was super dated and… fucking pink? But… You said the old one had water damage.. Where is the exhaust vent?
Still there we sanded down the rust on it and sprayed it with gold since the chrome finish was toast.
Bold choice to not include something to keep the shower water out of everything in the bathroom
Shower door is custom ordered so we have to wait a while on it...
You should've posted after the glass then you wouldn't have to rely on people reading the caption 😂
What did u do with that sink and tub?
I thought I was the only one with a pink wall hung toilet!
If it didn't constantly phantom flush it might have had a place haha.
[удалено]
I hope you saved the tiles and tub. We had a contractor offer us 2000$ for the tub and 2 dollar per tile. They are hard to find and have a resale market.
Wow this is beautiful!! Good job!!
That's a shame.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but that Pepto before was no good
I love the discord over this. I really want both sides of this debate to live in the same house and see what the aesthetic becomes. I love it when I take something "permanent" down like a bathroom mirror and find like 4 or 5 competing colors from years ago as new homeowners decide to repaint but leave just enough for you to see what it was.
It definitely gives me sad vibes. Not a fan of the old timey hospital pink.
I got rid of my pink. It just felt gross in there. I’m much happier with the outcome. Happy for you OP!
Nah, I’d dislike it too in my house, good news! I just have 70s sage green….. not quite bad enough to do anything with it seriously …yet.
Haha I'm about to add 70s sage and 50s pink into my house
Looks like an Airbnb in Joshua tree area we stayed at.
Looks great! Not my style but you pulled it off!
Your old bathroom looks exactly like my 95 year old grandmas who lives in a retirement HOA village. Nice job on the renovation!
I hate the floor, everything else looks great, I like your color choices
I’m mostly sad that you’re giving up studying Japanese in the bathtub now.
We are still studying Japanese in the bathtub haha. Just haven't moved the stuff back in yet
I’m sorry but the remodel will be outdated within 5 years. Pink was classic.
How do you use that new shower?
We don't. The custom L shaped shower door is still being processed. Baths for now
I’m not sure the water damage should’ve been the motivation here! LOL
Yesss and you out in a new toilet! With a bidet. Instant upvote.
Not often do golden fixtures make a bathroom less tacky. I am genuinely impressed.
I'm curious why keep the vanity? It seems out of place with all the new upgrades.
It was a budget constraint and was in very good condition
I’m not a huge fan of green. I like this green, it works well. Lovely Reno. Good job
Thank you!!! I love green but I didn't want it to be overwhelming so I'm glad others agree it came out okay!
This is a fantastic remodel. Genuinely don’t understand the people who preferred it before
It’s weird. Every single time someone posts a remodel of one of these ugly, tired, extremely dated pink bathrooms in this sub, people lose their minds. I get having a preference but people here routinely act is if they’ve been personally slighted by someone else’s bathroom.
Thank you!!! 😁
the old style was perfect….
It was not salvageable severe rot behind the toilet and shower and floor boards legit crumbling away.
bummer. understandable then
SLEDGEHAMMER!
Squatted potty spotted.
I love the before. I’m sorry you had to remodel. I like the vanity in the after and that green is a pretty green.
pity the pink could not work into the new reno.. well done in any case
I would have kept the old on just modernised it a bit. The pink was epic.
Before = better
It's my childhood home I inherited. If I could have salvaged I would but severe rot.
I have the same pink tile in mine. Plastic on plaster over stucco with metal mesh. Curse and damn the people who built it. Trying to remove as we speak
Love the new look!
Thank you!!!
I would’ve literally done anything to have the first bathroom lol. The pink is so beautiful
When I saw the pink tiles I knew people were gonna come at you in the comments for replacing them. I, too, replaced pink in my home and got the same response lol. I’m a huge fan of the green and gold combo. Do you plan to do anything with the white wall?
A few wooden shelves for candles towels and such but other then that I'm still trying to think up ideas
I am a huge fan of the ole shit but pop up quick to see who pulled up in front of the house. Freedom AND multitasking.
Classic “what’s that damn dog barking at” standing squat
We do need blinds haha
How do you shower without getting the whole bathroom wet in the new setup? I get a phobia of the toliet falling lol
At the moment shower door is a custom made design which takes time so we don't shower just bath
I think you've done a fantastic job!! I'm sure that was a lot of work and it definitely paid off!! I'd love to see a pic once the shower door is put up. Maybe you could do an update for this post once door is installed? Again, great job!
Where did you get that nice come light?
Interesting, that you kept the sink. I remember them from the late 60s. Good design 😊
We wanted to try to salvage the old if we could and it was a good budget saver.
Wall mounted toilet. Hope you don’t have any real big friends
I like both versions ngl! Gold and green is my favorite color combination. That shower head looks out of a dream. Nice new toilet too, looks fancy
Someone who either didn’t realize it was a 300, or someone who wanted a joy ride and didn’t care.
Will there be some type of glass surrounding the shower or something it looks like there's gunna be more water damage
Hell yeah for keeping the tub!
I don't get people removing tubs for just walk in showers... I love a good soak.
I like that you kept the counter!
the remodel is gorgeous but im so obsessed with the pink
Style wise, decisions were made. Work looks solid, good job!
That is not a remodel.
That is not a model .That's a makeover.
All the charm of a fucking dentists office. Nice job, great execution but definitely not to my taste. Love that green though. What is the #?
Are you gonna put a slider with panel shower door?
How did you find that vintage oddly shaped sink in a different colour??!
I had it reglazed white
It is sad that you had to gut this just as it returned into style. But your renovation looks fantastic - congrats.
Very nice.
I see your comments about the moisture issues. But I have to salute that pink tile. It was fantastic.
Love the green! 💚
looks great! hope the squatty potty was put back though!
There are zero complete guys here. Lies
Whole thing green
Is that a floating toilet
Did the original shower doors have a swan on each one? If so that's the exact setup in one of our bathrooms.
So does the toilet get wet when showering?
I have the same pink color toilet, sink, and tub in my 1958 house. I even have the non-matching toilet seat, though we went with the wooden seat.
[удалено]
Um ...you don't have a shower curtain....
No shower curtains? Aren’t you going to get water damage again?
Ive always wanted a floating toilet
is there a reason for the half wall at the end of the tub?
Tbh before it gave RV vibes.
Man, what a bummer about the water damage. I love the ‘50s pink tile.
That's a great example of making the best of a bad situation.
aw it was so pretty before
nooooo I am sorry but I love the original bathroom lol remodel is beautiful too
Remodeled my ancient bathroom complete guy. Ah, been there
I feel cheated, I wanted to see the demo too.
How did you find a replacement sink basin?
Reglazing the og
Thank God. Good work too btw
Hiragana chart probably for the kids, japanese toilet, are you an american japanese? Also, I can imagine this modern design will one day get as old and out of fashion as the pink one. Thought it is great looking
This looks spot on like my grandparents' old bathroom in Toledo (the original pics)
Nice work complete guy
So you retro modelled to the seventies. Cool.
It's beautiful. Great job.
Nice remodel but replacing tiles with parquet/pvc is not my taste
You did a great job. The hunter green was what we chose as accent walls in the late 90’s so not my thing (especially when we had to put 10 coats to cover it later on) but if that’s your thing, well done.
the floating toilet that doesnt touch the ground .... is there no real fear it will fall off?
Who the fuck puts wood laminate in a bathroom. Tile or gtfo with your bum self
Still have that sink? I’m looking for one.
Booooooo. Remodeling a pink bathroom is like renaming a boat: you have to keep a certain percentage of the original for good luck.
[удалено]
And we’re keeping the vanity? 🫠
It's so sad that you had water damage and had to get rid of that amazing pink tile! I would have looked so cool with black accents. New bathroom is fine but looks generic, like a hotel.
I mean, now you have to buy pepto bismol instead of having a lifetime supply
I would have appreciated this lovely pink and girly bathroom, but you have made it very ordinary and thats great jf you like it that way!
