“If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s snobbery and one-upmanship. People trying to pretend they’re superior. Makes it so much harder for those of us who really are.”
My two cents, I think the wall color is a big contributor to this getting dunked on.
That goldenrod yellow reads very “Olive Garden-themed kitchen” to me. Especially with the gold accents and sunflowers.
If you’d pulled the dark green from the curtains for the wall color, I feel like people would be into it. Dark wall colors + statement botanical prints in powder rooms pop up on this sub all the time, to general approval.
ETA: I personally really like the curtain print, and think OP’s wife was very clever for buying two and repurposing them!
I fixed the white balance on the picture. This is probably what it actually looks like, and if it doesn't OP can make it look like this with between 4100k - 6500k light bulbs that are bright.

I still agree that painting the walls will make it look better, but it doesn't blind you with yellow in this one.
I like it. I feel like if one place should make me think of endless salad and never-ending garlic bread, the bathroom is it!
In all seriousness, the print is cute and I love the color. It's sunny and happy and more bright than quasi Meditaranean.
It looks like the white balance is off making it look more yellow/orange than it really is. The toilet is a good indicator. It should be white, but looks yellow.
I agree. I like the curtains and matchiness of them. The wall color alongside them is what throws me off the most. I’m also just so over yellow walls, it feels super outdated to me.
That's a fantastic idea. I also think the green would be less garish to the eye, and won't tint everything as hard as the yellow does. Imagine looking in the mirror, hello jaundice face.
The print is pretty though. Love bold botanicals.
I like a lot of "ugly" things because they remind me of Grandmother. I would die of happiness overload if I could magically *poof* her avacado-green appliance set and her goldenrod "hexagon tile" linoleum into my Millennial Grey kitchen.
Her kitchen was one of the only happy places I knew as a child, I'd love to recreate such an oasis of love and safety <3
My grandma did this EVERYTIME she redecorated the bathroom. Extra points for the last bathroom where she managed to find a wallpaper border in the same print as the fabric.
It might be just the shitty photo lighting. It could look a lot better in person.
Everything has a weird yellow hue which makes me think the white balance on the phone was off. Either that or OP needs to either paint the walls or get way brighter light bulbs ASAP.
Makes me miss my grandma! She passed recently, but back in her day, she had the most elaborately decorated rooms you'd ever seen! Everything was colorful and matched perfectly. So many florals. Lol
Growing up my mom used to make new curtains and pillow cases for the living areas for every holiday. I mean EVERY holiday. Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day... And she would make new ones every year. My wife and I don't even decorate for holidays anymore. We don't have kids, so we don't care.
I love it and I love that you're proud of your wife, my husband shows off things that I've made and although I don't enjoy the attention from other people, I like that he's proud of my resourcefulness.
Ignore the haters, OP, this is dope as hell! I like flowers too.
Only thing I wonder about is how the shower curtain opens and closes easily with the valences up there.
I like it. I would only wish the toilet sat across fromt eh shower curtain, so I could look at it while taking care of business. Plus, they look very nicely done.
"Hello, the bucket residence?"
“If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s snobbery and one-upmanship. People trying to pretend they’re superior. Makes it so much harder for those of us who really are.”
lol
"It's Booo-kay"
"right but I'm trying to get Chinese Take away"
What a reference to come across in the wild!
Literally dozens of us!
I'm on my first rewatch of the series since watching reruns as a kid. Onslow is a gem.
Best show ever
I don't know what the bucket is, so accidental referance.

Brings back so many memories. I may have to subject my children to this as my dad did to me and my brothers...
It's pronounced Bouquet

Even color correcting the photo the room attacks my soul when looking at it.

That's what happens when you put a white toilet in a yellow room
Looks orange to me.
I agree. I like the curtains and matchiness of them. The wall color alongside them is what throws me off the most. I’m also just so over yellow walls, it feels super outdated to me.
I like all of it! I'm just happy to see something other than grey/white/black! :)
I'm thinking a sky blue may also work to give an outdoor summer field of flowers vibe to the bathroom
I would like to add that hanging the curtains higher on the wall and letting it go a wee bit below the window might give it a better look.
That's a fantastic idea. I also think the green would be less garish to the eye, and won't tint everything as hard as the yellow does. Imagine looking in the mirror, hello jaundice face. The print is pretty though. Love bold botanicals.
It does look like it was designed for a Wes Anderson movie too, if it was symmetrical.
Well one imagines the wall color predated the curtains
Sure, but thankfully they sell paint to fix it.
This is skillfully done but aesthetically not at all pleasing to me, personally a r/DIWHY but glad the OP is happy

It is a grandma's house.
Oh well. Ignore the comments carry on we love our grandmas and their houses.
I like it BECAUSE it reminds me of my grandma! 😅

70s color schemes are coming back into style so definitely redo the avocado kitchen!!
Avocado Green, Harvest Gold and Sunburst(?) Orange. Sunrise? Can’t remember that last one but that definitely was the 70s I knew.
My grandma did this EVERYTIME she redecorated the bathroom. Extra points for the last bathroom where she managed to find a wallpaper border in the same print as the fabric.
It reminds me of how my mom decorated my room as a kid in all Laura Ashley and I have never been a fan of that look.
It might be just the shitty photo lighting. It could look a lot better in person. Everything has a weird yellow hue which makes me think the white balance on the phone was off. Either that or OP needs to either paint the walls or get way brighter light bulbs ASAP.
I love it, it looks cheerfull.
Me, too. Clearly by the comments, it's not everyone's taste. But I adore it.
This isn’t my style but I LOVE your wife’s creativity and resourcefulness!
Screw it, I think it’s cute! Makes me feel a bit nostalgic too.
Makes me miss my grandma! She passed recently, but back in her day, she had the most elaborately decorated rooms you'd ever seen! Everything was colorful and matched perfectly. So many florals. Lol
Same, it’s cute and warm!
The walls are light peach
Legit amazing, never would’ve thought of that
Same, going to steal this idea.
r/ATGBE, not knocking your wife. The handiwork is top notch.
It looks like the set from Threes Company.
I am impressed. Keep this woman around as long as possible
Been married 45 years so probably will
Mazel Tov!

It looks good
It's a cool idea, but it doesn't look good. Looks like an awful motel.
Iunno dood. Like when I look at it, it looks happy, simple and nostalgic so maybe it’s a comfort thing for me.
I upvoted you both because you're both right.
This is not in line with my personal taste, but love the color! Screw the snotty folks on here, this is pretty and well done 👍
Not only does it match visually, but the drapes are also of water proof material too
Love it!
My eyes!!!
It reads "grammies house, or cheap Airbnb"
I’m so so sorry
cool. i know this might be a silly comment to make but where's the sink? i assume it's out of view lol
That soft green in the curtains on the walls would feel much more relaxing and aesthetically pleasing
Everyone either loving or hating the colour and pattern choice but I'm more concerned where I'm going to wash my hands. Is there a hidden sink?
That's one way to make a small bathroom look tiny. A smaller print, with more neutral colors will make it look much larger.
Warm and cheery.
Just learned what a fabric valence is.
LEGIT.
I think it's fine actually.
Nice job mate
Resourceful
Did she alert the nursing home that she'd be making these changes?
Looks like Van Gogh had apart of this
Just need the shag carpet rug in front of the toilet and on the toilet lid.
Don’t forget the padded toilet seat that is somehow always warm.
One thing I have learned about women with some certainty is that they really like things that match.
Wtf
Are you 2 in your 80s?
No
Yes
![gif](giphy|4baoNZ5Qo8dX2)
For real though, where did she get that shower curtain?
Amazon
Adorable!
Super fun bathroom🌻
Well, it’s certainly something…
I bought two also. Cut one up the middle. Put on a rod. It's long, doesn't have a valance
My mom did that in her bathroom too! Clever
Jalousies
Your wife is cool AF.
She's a keeper! Goes well with those frames in bathroom. I would probably replace that trash can though..
I love this but I also love Grannycore decor soo...
I like this modification. It looks very bright and fun.
While it’s not to my personal taste I’m always so impressed with crafty people doing things like this.
Your bin seems pleased.
I like it 👍🏽
I really like it. I’d feel all cozy and smiley every time I walked in. Even has some nice framed pictures to look at while you’re on the loo.
The piss room
Looks like the toilet at a roadhouse from 1867
Your "wife"
She’s definitely got an eye. I’d guess, two, though.
It works.
Not gray! I love it!
😬
What's the box by the waste bin?
Laundry chute, right over the washer downstairs, I built that
Man, sure your wife is clever and skilled. But, that's the best part of this entire post!
Beautiful!
Paint the walls black and you've got grandma Gothic. And I am here for it.
She did a great job!
Your wife rocks and hey, you rock for giving her props
Very well done! Enjoy your space!
Is her name Martha
1991 as a bathroom
I’d say marry her but you already have! lol
I love it and I love that you're proud of your wife, my husband shows off things that I've made and although I don't enjoy the attention from other people, I like that he's proud of my resourcefulness.
The piss room
My mom sews and used to buy extra sheet sets to use to make curtains to match the bedding if there were patterns.
Is a cover for the toilet next?
I like it! Very bright, happy look, like a sunny day. Don't really get all the snark.
absolutely gorgeous
I love the color scheme. Very warm and friendly!
Ignore the haters, OP, this is dope as hell! I like flowers too. Only thing I wonder about is how the shower curtain opens and closes easily with the valences up there.
Two poles, one a litte higher.
Everyone is being so cruel here, he wasn’t asking for feedback advice, just showing off. Your wife seems like a very loving and warm person OP
Your wife has inspired me - I'm gonna buy two toilets and turn one into a roll holder!!!
I like it. I would only wish the toilet sat across fromt eh shower curtain, so I could look at it while taking care of business. Plus, they look very nicely done.
Gotta bankshot the view off of the mirror
I legit thought this was a Van Gogh piece 👌🏼
How can we double this ugliness?
You would have to be in the frame.😜
\[golf clap\]
😱
Did they come with sunglasses?
Oh my god so much orange. It’s like if a tanning bed banged a bathroom.
Needs must.
