This depends on the model of the phone. iPhone 12 and up (not sure on Samsung or Google). But newer ones do need it. My FXDS destroyed my first phone, got the anti-vibration dampener, all good.
I got the ram mount x-grip thingy for like half the price and it works great, i was super glad I didn’t pull the trigger on one of these but we’ll see how it holds up
I have the quad lock and it has worked really well. I don't have their case I use an OtterBox with the 3m mount they sell and I haven't had any issues.
I do keep my bike out in the weather and the small hardware in the quad lock has some rust.
