I entered the DLC with my 2nd character that i created specifically for it which was like level 137, i got my ass handed to me then decided im not ready, left and now currently pre- fire giant
I will go back to lands of shadow when im better levelled and take it more seriously haha
What worked for me is staying far from the guy and force him to shoot with his crossbow, so that I could sprint to the side while getting shot at and once the last bolt was shot I could go in and hit him. Probably build depending but it worked for me! You'll get the guy for sure :)
Like a lot of bosses he's mostly hard because you can't know ahead of time that he'll follow up a specific move (wave slash) with a hyperarmor uppercut
As long as you avoid that he's just a regular tanky NPC
