Not to discourage you, but it's very rare to make $70k working for someone else and especially as a new esthetician. I have been in the industry for 9 yrs and the most I've made working for someone is around $50-55k including cash tips (I'm in MA) and that was also in a esthetic manager position with higher commission. Not saying you won't ever get to $70k but as a new esthetician it'll be very difficult to find something for that much. Maybe look into medspas or high end hotels/resorts where the facial prices are higher and it's commission not hourly and hustle. Also most of your income will come from selling retail so make sure your selling skills are on point.

Even if you land a job in a medspa or hotel, not all new clients go to you. Most spas take turns amongst the other estheticians and sometimes new clients call and request the most experienced aesthetician. Solo or working for someone, it takes time building clientele to make around 70k. My first job was with a surgeon and I got paid the least with no clientele.

This is why people should learn the job market BEFORE going to school. This is wildly unrealistic and of course you are going to be offered the minimum. You have no experience and I’m assuming not much training in advanced modalities and even if you did have the training, you haven’t had the experience of treating clients for years. No offense but you’re kind of out of pocket and should have researched the industry. Goood luck. If someone wants to pay a new esthi 70k just after graduating, I would love to work for that company lol

Settle for less because you're not going to land a job making that much as a brand new esthetician with no experience, no connections, and no clients.

I’ve been an esthetician for 11 years and my first 4-5 were working for chain retailers for no more than15- 20k a year..I’m at that 70k ish threshold now with my years of experience. It will take a lot of time ,patience and experience in the real world. It’s not easy I fear.

I had the realization you're having and went to work for Sephora, then as a full time brand rep making $50K (back in 2006). That was the quickest pathway to income for me personally, but those full time jobs are like unicorns and you have to be open to traveling and or driving a lot to cover a huge territory. Best bet might be to get as many clinical hours as possible, then go to a page called "cosmetic peeps" on FB and look for some freelance gigs working for brands in your area. As a freelancer they'll usually stick you at one of 2-5 stores for the day and you're not an employee of the store but the brand.

The only way is to work for a skincare brand. That’s what I did when I graduated, stayed in sales for 10 years, but just a heads up that it’s very competitive and if you don’t hit your goal or deal with the corporate bullshit (lies, crazy goals, abusive, SA, etc.) you’ll get fired. Best bet is to start where you can and build your skill set.

Your best bet might be to try and get in an elevated position. Look into different skin care brands that you can potentially join the education team for. It probably won’t immediately land you in the 70k realm but it’ll be easier to have a stable salary and then work your way up the ladder

I make about 50k a year working for a 5 star resort. Even then you need to hone your selling skills because a large portion of the money you want to make is from sales unfortunately.

Sometimes you have to keep your day job until you can build a regular clientele. Especially if you want to make 70,000. I'm an esthetics educator. I still practice on the side and I don't even make that much in California. You're gonna have to hustle, get certifications and CEUs, get your hands on as many faces as possible, market yourself everywhere you go and put in way more than 40 hour workweeks.

I live in Austin Tx and have had absolutely no luck finding a job. I’m sorry to discourage you. It’s been hard out here :(

Impossible.

I made close to $70k as a part-time esthetician in a high net worth area, but I was dual licensed as a nail tech. I was always booked. This is likely the only way you’ll meet or exceed that. I was also on a 60/40 split. I averaged about $55-72/hr. Along with doing private group events. It is possible, but there’s no traditional or easy road. And often times being paid that well, the owners are absolutely garbage people that treat staff poorly because of the earning potential. Find what you really love and become the very best at it…charge accordingly. My clients gladly pay $150 - $325 for 55min/75min facials. I charge $85 for Brazilians, that takes me 20mins. Don’t give up…but know that you will have to put in the work and be damn good to earn what you want…especially if you don’t go independent…and maybe even harder when you do!

70k a year is $291 per day, 20 days per month. Get really really good at what you do and you can get there!!
