That's a good idea, Isla being openly given the choice to sacrifice her freedom for Ruby. Would make unbalances clear.
(Tho on Ruby's side it's strange. The brainwashing is unethical, but besides that she already gave up her first life for a second one on the island, so it feels a bit shoehorned in.)
What I don't understand is why would Isla give Ruby the magical tattoo island job offer, Ruby accepts it, then wants to take her away from that job while Elena fights for it? Super plothole weird writing to me. Any idea with that?
Might be just confused from assuming Isla was a facet of the Island for so long. I can't wrap my head around what the relationship between the island and the merpeople is. I need that SeaDaddy to show up and draw a map for me, lol.
