So people say rat snakes kill other snakes like Copperheads, etc., but is that true? I thought it was just the gopher snakes that did that.

This reminds me of my grandpa’s ranch he used to take me out to as little kid. Every now and then a king snake or a rat snake would get in the rafters and hide somewhere, or even worse hide under something, so we had to make sure we were with an adult 100% of the time

I can't tell species without a location, but that looks like a pretty little ratsnake in the *Pantherophis* genus. Completely harmless rodent vacuum.

Around where I live, everyone calls them black ratsnakes for a reason. An outdated nickname, but still accurate.

Racers and king snakes are more likely to eat other snakes - especially king snakes.

Yes - we have grey, black and brown near us. The color and pattern of their scales is how I can tell what kind they are.
Oh, and if these guys do bite in self defense, it's like being bitten by angry Velcro. Nothing soap and water won't fix.
The scare of watching it strike you is 100x worse than the actual bite. Angry Velcro is a perfect analogy.
Or it might be a small bullsnake. North America's constrictor king. Also harmless to humans.
