I'm happy you think that but there definitely are ugly places in Finland. Luckily pretty much all of them are man made. Some places in the bigger cities can be very dreary.
Hmmm I think you might have a point, even though I remember seeing the white-pooped trees in swedish archipelago near stockholm and thinking they looked nice, with the dead white branches reaching out. But those were shat on by cormorants, not gulls iirc.
I don't find deserts appealing at all. Same with Florida styled swamps. Granted both of them can strike a good aesthetic, not everything that is good looking is beautiful or pretty. Ugly can be a good look too.
Deserts often have clear sky and no light pollution anywhere. Deserts are also located near equator, which means you get the best possible view of the milky way galactic center.
Combine this with endless sea of shining night sand, it can be pretty.
I’m from Michigan which nature wise it looks incredibly similar to Finland. Deserts are my favorite landscape by a long shot. I’ve spent months camping and hiking around Utah / New Mexico.
I think I like it the most because it’s the most different from what I grew up with, so it’s like an alien planet to me when I go there.
Wadi Rum or Sinai desert at sunrise. Those hues of pink, orange and coral red are breathtaking. They aren’t that appealing at noon when it’s hot and the light is hard.
I believe that. After some consideration I can retract the desert statement. Or shift it into that I don't care about deserts in USA. At least from what I've seen on TV and internet.

I just earlier replied to another comment how I liked the look of them in swedish archipelago when visiting stockholm :D hate the environmental affect they have tho
There’s a 700 hectare central forest with hundred kilometers of trails starting from central Helsinki. I’ve seen foxes and hawks hunting in the city center and there are big horse stables just next to Mannerheimintie. You can also hop on a local bus and get to a national park. Yeah, there are parts of the city that aren’t so close to nature (except the sea) but generally speaking it’s great if you wander away from the railway station.
We are literally talking about cities here, which part of that is so difficult to understand? The city of Helsinki is a billion times more appealing than freaking Mikkeli, you triggered little peasant.
Oh, just wait for the ”winter” in the south. Ice, watery slush and darkness. Sucking the soul out of even the best of us. But it also makes the springs magical!
As someone who experienced 3 months of spring for the first 20 years of their life... The whole 1 week of spring here is mindboggling. Snowdrops with roses and trees getting leaves in 3... 2... 1!
The first picture is taken on one of the nicest walking and cycling paths in the city, in my opinion. Away from the noise and stress of the main road, running through a nice green environment.
Nice shitpost.
But realistically, it's quite hard to find a non-ugly place in finland. Ugly architecture, ugly artificial planted forests, ugly people with ugly clothes, ugly roads with advertisements and signposts and shit. I guess there can be beauty in the barren landscapes of leafless trees and muddy water, and flat ground.
If you never go out of the cities, sure. In Uusimaa alone there are rapids, waterfalls, caves, ridge formations with 100m ascents and descents, cliffs, lakes, islands, wartime ruins and trench formations, and forests with varied types of trees. Expand beyond that and you'll find all sort of great places - swamp lands to the west, hills and lakes to the east, and stunning lake views to the east and north. You just have to look for it.
And own a car. You pretty much need to own a car. Can't see shit in Finland if you're limited to public transport.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
There are ALWAYS people ranting about how ugly some landscape is.
Congrats OP. I take you are one of those people who can find beauty in random everyday views. That is a rare and a useful trait to have.
That doesn’t look very beautiful to me. Looks normal and rather boring. Guess I take these views for granted but nice to hear that someone else would find it beautiful.
I'm happy you think that but there definitely are ugly places in Finland. Luckily pretty much all of them are man made. Some places in the bigger cities can be very dreary.
Kouvola
Ja Forssa
I mean, have you ever seen an ugly place that was formed by nature? I don't recall seeing one.
A large rock or a small rocky island covered in seagull poop. Plenty of those in the Finnish archipelago.
Hmmm I think you might have a point, even though I remember seeing the white-pooped trees in swedish archipelago near stockholm and thinking they looked nice, with the dead white branches reaching out. But those were shat on by cormorants, not gulls iirc.

You should try going into the desert on a clear night and looking up. The most amazing night sky you’ll ever see, anywhere.
I understand what you mean, but that's space, not desert. :D
Deserts often have clear sky and no light pollution anywhere. Deserts are also located near equator, which means you get the best possible view of the milky way galactic center. Combine this with endless sea of shining night sand, it can be pretty.
I personally love those both. Deserts are so beautiful and serene. Swamps have sense of mystery in them.
I agree!
Imo both are beautiful, but you know what they say about opinions!

Coast line is pretty. Forests are pretty. Mountains at north are pretty.
There definitely are ugly parts in cities. Not everywhere is pretty. But there is alot more good places.

Finland is a beutiful place that has greatly been ruined by the Finnish
True to almost every place though. Humans just have a tendency to overuse natural resources and such.
Actually it's just a finnish people problem. Other countries were ugly from the start.
Well that's just wrong.
No
Switzerland? Alaska? Norway? Japan? Literally any place with even a resemblance of vegetation?
Uggo
Expected the shittiest takes from a weeb that has never touched grass in their life talk about what is outside.
L
Oh racist spotted :/
Kouvola would like to have a word with you.
If Kouvola is too far, I suggest Korso or eastern side of the train tracks in Koivukylä (watch out, dont get mugged :D).
Aaaa. Someone beat me to the kouvola joke
Came looking for "Kouvola" and was please to see it as the top comment.
[удалено]
As someone who has been to Koivukylä all I can say is, and pardon my french, hyi vittu.
Hakunila would like to join the party as well
K - city born and raised 😂🔥
You can still find some nice motives to photograph even in Kouvola. Just not in the city centre… (Source: been there, done that)
I opened the comment section just to see if this was posted
Or Kemi
Your joke is bad and old and stupid. Kouvola has some of the best nature.
Repeating an old joke is just bad comedy. It is so unoriginal and tacky.
Kouvolan lakritsi comes in all of the city's colors, just grey. (Black or grey idk, technically the same)
Kouvola has all the colors you need... Gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gary, gray, gray and some more gray
Came to make this exact comment. Too slow
have you tried varkaus?
Theft
Kotipaikka Varkaus, ammatti sama.
Varkaus is the most depressing place I have been to in Finland haha. Everyone there seems depressed too.
As a Savonlinna inhabitant, Varkaus and Mikkeli are so ugly...
What is wrong with Mikkeli? We have lot of beautiful places here!
Rhymes with kikkeli
So original.
Compared to Varkaus, not much, but I find Mikkeli center depressing somehow, but I'll admit that viiskulma isn't great either
Why are you at center? We have beautiful nature here. Helsinki isn't that beautiful eather if you are at center. Wtf.
We are literally talking about cities here, which part of that is so difficult to understand? The city of Helsinki is a billion times more appealing than freaking Mikkeli, you triggered little peasant.
umm what are you talking, varkaus is a pretty little town? obviously at winter like most finnish cities, not that much anything.
I have, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Oh, just wait for the ”winter” in the south. Ice, watery slush and darkness. Sucking the soul out of even the best of us. But it also makes the springs magical!

This place looks oddly too familiar, where were these taken?
I would say Jyväskylä, but I'm not entirely sure though
You're right. More specifically Eerolanlahti in Kortepohja.
Ah that explains it. Been there.
The first picture is taken on one of the nicest walking and cycling paths in the city, in my opinion. Away from the noise and stress of the main road, running through a nice green environment.
Ah could have almost been Oulu too.
I thought the same! And I was also correct. Weird that I recognized it. I can't point anything specific that made it recognizable.
Any ABC in any village of Finland
I disagree, I lived in Lahti. There's nothing beautiful about a junkies needles on your front porch
Hold on let me look in the mirror
Jyväskylä, Kortepohja?
When in Helsinki, Check out Meri-Haka. If you are unfortunate enough to live there, the only upside is that you look out from there, not at it!
Go to Kouvola
Try Kouvola or as we know it Kouvostoliitto.
#Kouvola
Ihana Suomi ! 🇫🇮 love from 🏴
I just realized that both of those flags are white and blue. Really cool!
Trust me. It's not
Bro i can walk outside turn right and it looks like a fucking soviet spray paint decomposing leaves type of shit
That second photo isn't ugly? Looks like your average dingy low income suburb.

kouvola
Oh it's definitely possible
Kalasatama looks horrible now due to the massive buildings. Sadly that's a trend everywhere else too...
It's common to joke about Kouvola being ugly because most buildings are large and dull cement blocks without character.
Joensuu wants to talk to you
Kouvola mate
Go to kouvola
Counter argument: kouvostoliitto
Have you heard about Kouvola ? >!No offence anyone from Kouvostoliitto!<
Obviously you’ve never been to Kouvola..

Kouvola comes and says hold my beer.
Not really, just go to Kouvola.
Couple of words: Merihaka, Helsinki.

My husband and I are gonna visit in the autumn next year! I'm so excited! Can't wait to see all that beauty 😍
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." There are ALWAYS people ranting about how ugly some landscape is. Congrats OP. I take you are one of those people who can find beauty in random everyday views. That is a rare and a useful trait to have.
Kontula
Yes, it is... I consider that place quite ugly... And I'm a Fin
Where are you from ?
I agree 💯💯💯💯
I see you have never been to Petonen in Kuopio.
2 months later as all the nature has died but snow is yet to fall — "it's impossible not to find an ugly place in Finland!"
Yes my room
Beautiful. Finland is on my bucket list.
Regrettably, we have this thing called Kouvola
Except for when its winter and everything is grey and white or when its almost summer and all the snow is brown and grey
I know an ugly place in Finland! Me...
Filter name?
is this a challenge?
Correction: It's impossible to find an ugly place in Finland... Until you do.
Yep nature in Finland isn't ugly, but not every residential/urban place looks this nice...
It is not inpossible go to vantaa and you find an ugly place🤣 LUL
Yes there is, it’s called Kouvola
Almost anywhere this time of the year for like 18h or more a day. Only pitch black darkness and wetness
Go kouvola, you’ll change your mind.
How about Kouvola? It honestly looks like soviet union in 1960s
Interestingly, This looks nearly identical to northern Michigan in the US where a lot of Finns settled.
Ootko käyny mun vessassa?
What kind of camera ar you using? I think the bright colours and shades look really nice :)
Finland is full of ugly architecture, combine that with bad weather and clearcut logging. It can look pretty bad sometimes.
Kemi
That depends on the time and date. Same places could be quite depressing when it's eg spring, just grey all around wet and cold.
Have you seen my favorite place to stay in Finland - Kallio? 🤣
Look at all those places for 39 years and they do start to look pretty ugly. Also everywhere in November.
Kemi is also pretty bad, I think.
Hehe i know where you are
That doesn’t look very beautiful to me. Looks normal and rather boring. Guess I take these views for granted but nice to hear that someone else would find it beautiful.
May I present to you: Kouvola
Tell me you're an American living in Finland who just visited one place without telling me you are.....
Kouvola
Come visit Lohja or Kouvola..
Ever heard of **kouvola**
Visit Kouvola, theb you will change your mind…
Try Kouvola
