The way they run really tells you a lot. I saw one towards the end that seemed to have some experience. Most of them looked like role-playing gravy seals, living out some childhood dream.
If I caught my medic acting like a gunner, I'd call it role-playing. Odds are they were ordered to conduct this performance because the jets couldn't do a pass that day.
We were still using these for VBSS in 2018 but it seemed to vary by ship. I don’t believe it’s an “official” uniform for anything. It’s just sometimes used but I also wasn’t a SEAL so I can’t speak for them lol.
I was active duty USMC we once had to helo assault a park somewhere in Arizona . We felt stupid holding security off a bird with a crowd of folks on the roads just watching and taking pictures. To this day I’ve no idea wtf the training was for .

When I was in college my schools rotc did this at the basketball game with rubber ducks and mismatched tactical gear. They had audio full of movie war sounds playing on the sound system.
