The disparities between these two functionally very similar sports has always been so amusing to me. The crowd that goes for trophy cats at the dam is **quite** different then the guys I see wearing Buffs and marine camo hoodies skipping jigs like Skee-ball
Yeaahhhh, the new group of bass fishers that have come onto the scene in the last few years are definitely something else. Glad to see more people enjoying fishing, just wish some of them would be a bit more respectful and responsible about it
I usually say "I think it's a good one", and then it's a 10 inch bluegill when I'm targeting bass. Or "I think it's a good one!" And it's just a big ass carp when I'm pike fishing.
My go to is most generally, "there (he) 'e is"...
Once in a while when with others, and to draw their attention, "fish ON!"...
BOTH are cliche, Midwest!!
Depends on who I’m with but I mostly fish saltwater. If we’re trolling and a rod goes off usually yell at the highest volume possible “Hookuuuuuuuuup!” So the skip can hear it. If working a drift “Freshie!”, if my buddy hooks something usually something like “You found a dumb one!”
If it’s large mouth-When I feel the bite an emphatic “oh” comes out then after the hook set it’s “fish on!!!” If it’s tuna fishing and I engage the reel from free spool and the rod bends it’s “I GOT A FRESH ONE!!!!!” As loud as I fuckin can. Both of the scenarios happen every time, without fail!!!
The best was not mine, but an old guy I used to fish with. He would just start laughing. Wouldn't say a word, but just start laughing and reeling, every time he got a fish on. It was awesome. RIP John-E-Boy.
Fish on!

FISH ON!!!! Lol. Caught yesterday
I forget words for a second, usually my eyes go all wide and I go "Ope!" Very Minnesota
Ope, just need to squeeze right by ya.
Standard. Ope, got em!
Canadian here, same.
Florida-born Tennessee-raised ope-er here
Got em
Fish on! I only say it when I am fishing with someone else. Also say it when spotting a morel mushroom when with a group.
That seems misleading, since there more than likely *isn't* a fish even close to you while morel hunting!
Depends. If I'm bass fishing it's usually just "fish" but if I'm catfishing it's usually "OH SHI" as I drop my beer

i’ve learned that everytime i say “this is a good one” right after 2 second i lose it or break the line. so i understand that shut up is better…

I'd take a 10" gill over an average size bass any day of the week
Same. A 10” bluegill would put up one hell of a fight too
“We got weights in fish!!”
Got 'eeem
Fish ON
YO… YO … YO … GOTTA FISH
[theme from Law & Order SVU]
"Oh yup"
"The bite is on" when I'm focused to call others to join me. If I see a rod near my friend or wife, I'll point at it and say FISH!!!
I go all Richard Gene and say quieeeeet it now.
^*that's* ^*woo*
HAWT DOG
Hell yeah.
On the sport boats in socal it's "BITERRRRR" or "FRESH ONE!"
Got one
“Got em” and when I unhook em “you sir are a fish”
Ope!!
Everytime I feel a tap….its ope!!!
"Sport Model" (Bill Dance)
There it is 🤠
Depends, it’s generally oh shit
Some variation of fuck yeah or oh fuck!
“There’s one”
Set with the elbows
My go to is most generally, "there (he) 'e is"... Once in a while when with others, and to draw their attention, "fish ON!"... BOTH are cliche, Midwest!!
There we go! or the timeless classic, Fish on!
“GET OVER HERE”
That's what we came here for.
Yep that's not a log
ON!!!
Wanna watch me catch another fish ?
Robson Green (poncy British actor) had a fishing show from about 20 years ago. I use his "Get in!"

“Fish!”
Hook up!! Very loud when trolling. Fresh one when using bait. Fuck yeah if using a jig.
"I'm on" as i put down my beer.
Simply YUP!
Big fish
Stoopid ass fish
RIGHT IN THE BUTTER HOLE BABY! Feels great saying it when you throw that perfect cast and get slammed by one afterwards!

Shit, hold my beer.
Fish on, got em, various expletives
I just giggle.
We troll a lot and somehow “Fish Fish Fish!” Is the call when a reel clicker goes off.
Isabiggin!
There we go.
ahun van e
Oh, river monster (it could be a lake and under a pound)
“BESSY! BESSY! Get the OIL BESSY, we’re gonna be flip floppin a flounder tonight!”
"oh dang, another tree" since i have had this year more hooks biting into trees underwater than biting into fish lips
Ope......FISH ON!
Theirs one , he's on , got em , we're hooked up, he crushed it, nice one , fish , fish on Any of those depending on the situation
^*yup*
You’re soul is mine!
Fishaoun! (Fish-on)
"There we go"
Fish on!
"I'm on!"
Ooh son!!
EEeeeHAW EeeeHAW Eeehaw (donkey noises) anotha damn donkeh even if it’s little.
Pike on! Perch on! If it’s neither it’s Fish on!
“Come on buddy”
“Yeuh” like Ice Cube in Friday when he’s getting his big ass cereal bowl.
“Oh shit!”
“Yeahhh buddy!” Followed by “come here you stupid fish”
Fish on! https://preview.redd.it/wz95v5115c9d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b24bde837be8b3298bed5125264f5a610f8b0449 FISH ON!!!! Lol. Caught yesterday
There are so many, but the standard ones are "Ope", "there's one" "this one feels better" and "there we go". Usually in some combination.
“Got one” is normally my instinct. But it’s “Holy shit” when I get a big hit.
THERE IT IS !
ITS A MONSTER! (It never is)
Hook Up! Fresh one!
It’s a monster!!
If it’s been a long time since I’ve gotten a bite, like an hour or more, I usually say something to the effect of “THERE we fuckin go”
Ope
