People who do not have diabetes still experience spikes in blood sugar before the natural insulin kicks in, they just don’t last as long as in people with diabetes. And personally, white rice is the worst thing for my blood sugar. Even if I eat it with fiber and protein, it will shoot up to the 300s. I have type 2. I’m not a doctor, so I would still go ask and see if that’s normal for you.

Different-City-5802

I should’ve clarified it was brown rice in the bowl! I got it without sushi rice hoping to avoid a spike. Thank you for your input!

FloodedWithSugar

You need to get screened for diabetes friend, those readings are not normal.

Ne0hlithic

I'm type 2 and what you're describing is typical for how my body reacts to eating the type of things you list. If I eat about a cup of rice (like in a poke bowl), I would shoot up to the low 200s and then crash down to about 70 before evening out. I avoid this by not eating carbs like that. It's possivle you might be diabetic. You could request an a1c test to check. In the meantime, cut back on the carbs -- your body doesn't seem to do well with them.

Different-City-5802

Okay, noted! And I should say the rice was brown rice! Is it possible to have type 2 diabetes with no prior health issues? I’ve always been a good weight and eaten healthy, very physically active. What should I ask to get checked? And I already eat very limited carbs, should I cut them out completely?

Traditional_Living_5

I would start with eliminating anything that spikes your blood sugar that high. I have successfully used a ketogenic diet to reverse diabetes. Carb restriction does work.

Specific-Drawer

This works for T2 but not T1D. Eventually the pancreas stops releasing insulin in T1D. OP needs to get checked out.

Traditional_Living_5

Yes for type 2 carb restriction can reverse it. For type 1 it can greatly reduce the needed insulin.

Specific-Drawer

You should get your A1C tested and get screened for antibodies for type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed T1 in my late 30s, not overweight, eat healthy with very little sugar. Unfortunately it can happen. Ask your doctor to do the blood tests for T1 and T2 to be sure.

catkysydney

It is just like me,.. it sounds like reactive hypoglycemia.. your CGM shows that spike ( high ) and 5 hours later 60s. Very much like me. Please see an endocrinologist. My doctor said 60 is normal , I don’t agree with him . It is low enough .. Do you have symptoms when it is low ? I have very severe …. Good luck to you !!

rnrnrn69

Funny because I have the opposite situation with my doctor 😉 for me low sugar is below 50 and any hypo symptoms or discomfort start below 40. I say that's normal and she says it's not. Go figure.

SweetAndThic

What’s your A1c ?

No-Penalty-1148

Diabetes is a very complicated disease. I would ask your primary care doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist.

2workigo

Is there any particular reason you are checking your sensor every minute? Seems more than a bit obsessive. Also, white rice is just about the worst thing you can eat. I’d spend some time educating yourself on carbohydrates. As previous people have mentioned in your other posts, your body doesn’t seem to do well with simple carbs. Have you changed your diet to include more protein and vegetables? Have you spoken to the provider who prescribed the CGM to you?

Different-City-5802

Hi! Yes there was, I’ve had two seizures due to low blood sugar and was trying to catch it before I dropped since my alarms don’t always go off and I didn’t want to end up creating a scene (since I was at work). And I guess I should’ve clarified but I got it with brown rice!

Traditional_Living_5

I used to get almost the same response with brown or white rice.

2workigo

Who ordered the CGM for you? And what do you mean your alarms don’t go off? Hypo alarms cannot be turned off.

InternalAdvertising6

Just to flag that isn’t right assuming you mean an alarm rather than a notification. I have my alarms off at work as my phone is on silent and I don’t set the app to override it. At night if I think I might drop while asleep I switch it back on again.

Different-City-5802

My primary care physician did! And I mean they sometimes do not go off at the level I have them set at which is 70 currently! I’ve also had two hypos below 50 that it did not go off

2workigo

So again, if your CGM was prescribed by your PCP, why are you not following up with them about your questions? Nobody here can answer to what is going on with you. If you have concerns, you need to address them with your PCP. And again, have you done anything to change your diet? Why are you checking your sensor so often? Why are you seeking validation from internet strangers and not healthcare professionals?

Dave_DBA

This response should be much more common in this sub!!

DieterRamsMyAss

/ end thread.

Hellrazed

Set the alarms higher?

kuch2point0

First off, you need to see a doctor to figure out your highs/lows. Your Libre results look like mine, after eating poke with brown rice, and I am 100% diabetic. Since, I see you say it was brown rice several times. Remember rice in general is not great for you as a diabetic. White rice being horrible, brown is better, but still not great unless you consume in moderation. I figure 15g of carbs is one serving for me, and I try to stick to a max of two per meal, so long as they are complex carbs.

criterion67

Go back to see your primary care physician! You keep trying to find a reason to justify brown rice as though it were carb free. It's not! Given your issues with the seizures, you have a serious condition that needs to be addressed by a physician.

FunkyDiabetic44

Definitely see an endocrinologist about this. You mentioned in the comments a few times that you eat healthy and you're not overweight and to that I can say that a lot of the times we have genetic predisposition to diabetes. I found out I have type 1 diabetes last month at 32 and I waa told there's nothing I could have done to stop it, it was just the matter of time when it was going to manifest. And regarding brown rice- for me personally brown rice and potatoes are two sources of carbs which are very tricky and rise my blood sugar quickly. If I want to eat brown rice I can have two or three tablespoons of cooked brown rice max with my insulin and that amount doesn't impact my blood sugar levels. So a lot of the times it's not only the matter of glycemic index of food but the amount as well.

JerryJN

Not diagnosed... It's bad! It shows no control. I suggest fasting, just eat breakfast, drink hot tea as a hunger suppressant. Do it for 3 weeks and check your CGM...will get better. That's what I do.

Ok_Bath_8679

I'm type 2 and the symptoms you have I had apart from I didn't eat anything I was drinking pure orange juice from the carton and that was all day and night and I was at the bathroom just as much and it was most of my symptoms of diabetes and being tired and being over weight and just not concentrating on anything else and not having the strength to go to work with the early times now I lost all the weight and I'm doing ok and I've got the Libre 2 sensor on and got to keep a watch on my sugars other than that I feel better

Different-City-5802

That’s good! Is it even possible to have type 2 since I’m otherwise healthy? I also have to pre quite frequently lol to the point that others around me make fun of me for it. But I’ve always eaten healthy and never been overweight. Do you think it’s worth getting checked?

Ok_Bath_8679

It doesn't matter which way you do it because it goes by how your pancreas is as with mine I took insulin in the first time for 10 weeks before it kicked in again and that was for a year and then on insulin and tablets for a little while before I was off insulin but on the tablets for a year and that's to see what insulin my pancreas was producing but it didn't help because I still ended up on insulin for a few years before I want off everything for a year and just a diet and after that year I was on victoza and insulin and that only worked for 3 years and now I'm just on insulin for the rest of my life and I have lost all of my weight and it took me around 17 years to do that but now I have to do add weight because I'm classed as under weight but it's having to add weight that's the hardest

Specific-Drawer

Like I said above, often people with type 1 diabetes are not overweight and may even lose weight because of it. The peeing a lot is a symptom of diabetes. Talk to your doc for sure

Effective_Vanilla_32

ur 19 and ur bs is this high, and ur not fat. why

Different-City-5802

That’s what I’m trying to figure out ! Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

catkysydney

I am thin . My doctor diagnosed me with type 2 instead of reactive hypoglycemia.. I don’t agree with him, but he does not refer me to an endocrinologist . I am wondering I may be type 1. But my doctor never admitted my hypo and type 1 without testing .. we have to see an endocrinologist. Even my fasting insulin level was 4. He does not pay any attention , I am looking for a new doctor now .

Effective_Vanilla_32

carbs is the killer. 30g per meal max, 15g snacks. i have similar readings i take insulin.

Different-City-5802

Should I get checked for diabetes ? And noted, I’ll definitely take that into account when I eat! I cook most foods at home so that’s doable!

Effective_Vanilla_32

u didnt get checked but u have a cgm? that bs is type 2 diab level. see ur dr now

Effective_Vanilla_32

count the carb grams, thats crucial

Different-City-5802

Okay! What if you’ve made a meal (like quinoa) but don’t have a scale, can I make an educated guess?

Effective_Vanilla_32

buy a scale. also how can weight grams be mapped to carb grams? [update on mapping](https://sl.bing.net/fR8j4uYyz2O)

Intelligent-Belt-143

My family also has a history of type 2, active and thin. Genetics are powerful
