Yuppp. The only real answer. Georgia Boy has been preparing for this moment for years. Most people act here like they know what it means to experience this delicacy!
Lots of talk recently about Kimchi Red. I'm here right now and it's PACKED. Waiting on my food, will update soon.
Edit: food was fresh and overall high quality Korean fried chicken. Service is amazing. You can tell they are really passionate about making sure everyone is happy. You order up front and they bring the food out to you. Their service and passion for making good food turned an everyday food ordering experience into something more emotional for me. To see someone as passionate about fried chicken as I am, idk... I'm not crying you're crying.
Pro-tip with this place... DONT GO ALONE. All of their food plates are family style. Go with like 4 people and get a variety of their food. I only got a small platter, which was filling, but I feel like I missed out on a lot. Will be going back with friends.
What would be some potential candidates?
I'm thinking Spring in Marietta but I can't really think of anything else that hits hard enough for a Mitchellen star.
What say you?
If they stretch that far, I think Brian and Daniel have nailed what qualifies for at least one star.
Mujo and hayakawa are shoo-ins since the guide has a thing for omakase and sushi in general.
There are many bib candidates in Atlanta, I'll be surprised at what's considered one star. My list in no particular order is:
Mujo,
Hayakawa,
Bacchanalia,
Aria,
Atlas,
The Chastain,
Miller Union
Other places I think get close but are missing something:
Boccalupo,
Kimball House,
Lazy Betty,
Georgia Boy etc,
Lyla Lila
What would you add or change?
Having gone to quite a few Michelin starred restaurants ranging from 1-3 star restaurants, Aria and Bacchanalia are good but not starred good.
Aria doesn’t vary their menu enough and some of the entrees are not great. They’re good, but not great.
Bacchanalia has some service issues. Once spent an hour waiting on our dessert because the soufflé collapsed twice. They didn’t notice my fork had gone missing and I had to ask twice to get a new one. A couple of the items on the menu one of the times I went weren’t very good. Like I didn’t want to finish it not very good.
No argument there. I worked at one of those. I think it's a very surprising announcement since there really aren't enough places here that I feel embody the concept at this point. Service is so important and yet so lacking these days.
I'm a chef, and have dined at a few starred restaurants. There are no places in metro Atlanta that consistently offer the food and service that you'd expect from a Michelin recommended restaurant. Service is always hit or miss when the food is that good, or the food just isn't special when the service is on point. And nowhere here has done either with the level of consistency expected for stars.
Truth hurts sometimes, but so does dropping $400+ on a dinner and leaving disappointed.
The chastain???? Unless it’s gotten a lot better, I have that one squarely in the overpriced and mediocre quality category.
I can see Aria getting it in their dessert quality alone
I’ve been to nearly all of those restaurants and Spring had the best service and most thought put into the menu. It would be a shame if they were excluded from the guide because it’s in Marietta.
Fia. Best restaurant in the city of Atlanta by far. They deserve the recognition. People forget and overlook Fia because the restaurant is located in a hotel. Every dish is AMAZING and PERFECT. Not a single bad or subpar dish.
Starting in the 50’s Michelin put out a book for travelers about restaurants in local cities. The number of stars it had was a way to tell you how far out of your way you should go to try it. More stars, better restaurant etc.
Air travel wasn’t as prevalent then as it is now so there was a lot of people taking longer road trips. The book was good for finding restaurants along the way.
Since then it’s just turned into what it is today
I think there was really a lost opportunity to rate it the number of tires rather than stars. Much more on brand and conveys just how much I should value a meal. You tell me a restaurant is rated 3 Pilot Sport Cup 2s and I'm sold.
I hope someone brings up the fact that there’s more to our fair state than just Atlanta. I don’t even know if it’s still around, but back in the day, I would have said Nabila’s down in Fitzgerald deserves some recognition. Or RL’s over in Covington.
I haven't been there in 20 years, but on my one visit, the food was alright but VERY pricy and it really felt like you were paying for the view. Not sure if that's still how it is, but I wouldn't anticipate that it was up to Michelin standards on the food alone... they certainly have the fine dining atmosphere though. Then again, I'm not sure how they rate restaurants for a star.
#what peaches?
I thought GA had very few crops this year. Please don't be that twat that comes in here asking where they are. They're not in GA this year
Correct. Half of the crops this year were destroyed because of the late freeze.
I’m a georgia boy through and through, but South Carolina peaches are pretty incredible.
Don’t get crazy they have them out like candy in Miami and honestly at least half the places with stats in Miami I am positive they were earned with a dazzling blowjob but definitely not food sorry chefs it’s not supposed to be THAT easy
Our peaches have been tasty for ages, y'all are just now noticing. Burger Joy is finally going to get the recognition it deserves.
If Burger Win, right off 20 and Moreland, didn't get a half a star imma be mad.
If you want to pay $200 for a mediocre snack just holler at your buoy. My deconstructed lunchables are to die for.
you deconstruct them more than they are?
Varsity will gets its recognition now.
WHAT'LL HAVE....be quick about it...lines long

Ya but the ambiance is So totally worth it....
The onion rings are more oil than onion
"we are a cashless restaurant"
Lazy Betty or Georgia Boy?
Yuppp. The only real answer. Georgia Boy has been preparing for this moment for years. Most people act here like they know what it means to experience this delicacy!
I really hope Joey gets a shot. His food is definitely star quality.
TIL Michelin stars are awarded by the Michelin tyre company.
It was to get you to travel and wear out those tires!!
Finally Waffle House can get the recognition it deserves
They better get their act together then.

Listen, I live up by Kimchi Red and it’s great… but it is not Michelin star quality, lol.
Michelin Star does not mean fine dining. There are quite a few hole in the wall places like Kimchi Red that have made that list.
I think the Bib Gourmand is more what you're thinking of. Stars are real deal holyfield
What would be some potential candidates? I'm thinking Spring in Marietta but I can't really think of anything else that hits hard enough for a Mitchellen star. What say you?

I just think spending 280 dollars for a steak dinner is just a tad too much....but thats me

Definitely. The best, the absolute best, I would expect is a single star. At best.
But Bacchanalia offers a stool for your purse. Isn't that worth a star? /s
Straight out of Restaurant Guy Savoy.
I agree with Aria. The food was very forgettable. I remember it being good but I honestly can’t remember any of the dishes.
The chastain???? Unless it’s gotten a lot better, I have that one squarely in the overpriced and mediocre quality category. I can see Aria getting it in their dessert quality alone
I do luv me some Lyla Lila. Now I want pasta.

Strip club lemon pepper wings. It's only a matter of time until they get their due.
BoccaLupo
H+F ketchup gets 10 Michelin mans.
Finally, WH will add yet another accolade to the long list.
What do tires have to do with food?

It dates back to 1900 but was initially only in French
I was talking specifically in the US, should have clarified
It's amazing how it went from like a roadside America thing (but for France) to ultimate pursuit for fine dining thing.
TIL Thanks!
I think there was really a lost opportunity to rate it the number of tires rather than stars. Much more on brand and conveys just how much I should value a meal. You tell me a restaurant is rated 3 Pilot Sport Cup 2s and I'm sold.
Funny enough, Little Bear has a “2 1/2 Michelin Tire” rating on their door as a joke

tearing down america’s largest urban forest to build cop city is also going to heat up atlanta. literally. stop cop city.
My money is on the Sundial

Anderson is where the peaches are. They're just stunning.
r/woosh
I get what this post is about. Just saying
Yeah it's about them damn millennials and their liberal agenda! Peaches2024!
Don’t get crazy they have them out like candy in Miami and honestly at least half the places with stats in Miami I am positive they were earned with a dazzling blowjob but definitely not food sorry chefs it’s not supposed to be THAT easy
Hmmm...tire company employees with huge expense accounts. Can't imagine that happening.
