Somehow, it was a great song for the one event that turned the page on the state of total war in the U.C. There would be more wars and schemes to kill everyone on Earth, but those events would feel like storms that would eventually pass compared to the seemingly innumerable scourge of Zeon and its byproducts.
The notion of consciousness outside of time is something of a recurring theme by that point.
In 0079, during her death, Lalah says she can see Time, implying that she now exists outside it--*beyond* it.
Zeta's first opening is *Toki wo Koete* (Beyond Time), and has verses literally about going beyond time, seeing past the struggles of the current moment and moving on to something better and more fulfilling.
The core theme of Tomino's newtype stories to that point is also about how they're able to reach an interpersonal understanding and have the optimism of bringing everyone together on that same page, but are constantly thwarted by being trapped in the history of now, the conflicts of the moment, which instead exploit and abuse them; the sense that the only way to accomplish that optimistic ideal is to step out of *right now*, and to exist outside of the moment.
So yeah, in the moment when the core personal and political rivalries are ending, and the Universal Century is finally able to *move forward*, it's a fantastic way to wrap up that little recurring theme, and tie it into the Newtype elements of the earlier entries.
...Except of course they had to revive the same political conflict again for later entries. And then they extrapolated that thematic element as *literal* time travel.
But taken out of that context on its own, this is still a fantastic moment, in an otherwise flawed movie.
Spoilers for Unicorn and The Narrative too in a way but >!they take the “beyond” the time part quite literally in the end there!<.
Amazing track, and TM Network, known for other 80’s anime hits like City Hunter’s “Get Wild”, longest lasting hit imo.
Also interesting that they inspired T.M. Revolution (Takanori Nishikawa), of Kenshin “Heart of Sword” and soul eater “Resonance” fame, who also did several OPs for Seed and GSD, including “lnvoke”, “Ignited” and “Vestige among others (insert songs like “meteor” too). He has noted that he named T.M.R. After TM Network.
![gif](giphy|eo8UrZwpvjPHi)
I always wondered if there was a connection between TM Network and TM Revolution. I figured that since the TM in TMR is supposed to me "Takanori Makes" (or something to that effect) that it was coincidence.
I really feel like Unicorn writers basically took Contolism, an in universe ideology, as the "theme of universal century", completely missing the fact that Char is a very flawed character and is wrong about newtypes, even in Zeta when he's "a good guy".
IMO that is what led to Unicorn missing the point of UC, and Banagher's lack of agency didn't help redeem it IMO
This song is my answer to the "If you had a time machine, where would you want to go?" question. I would love to go back to the late 80s Japan when CCA just came out, and sit through the film with people who find out live that Amuro and Char both die. Then watch everyone's bewildered face, and know that some of them will walk out of the cinema having had some of the best emotions they'll ever feel in their life. I want to witness that, and it happens when Beyond the Time is playing.
There is a before and an after CCA. Before, Amuro and Char have a future. When Beyond the Time starts playing, you wonder if they possibly made it, then come to terms with the fact that you've seen the end of both of them.
As a 10 years old kid when I watched that movie in the early 90s, the innocent me thought it was a very profound and 'adult' anime that I have just watched. Open-ended /ambiguous finale (mostly a tragic one obviously) was a first for me as a human being. I felt more mature after the movie even though I wasn't 100% capable of comprehending the entire story. This song will forever be linked to that feeling in my mind regardless of how much I have evolved into understanding all the flaws of it over the years. It is emotional, grave, and melancholic all in one. I was so pissed when I heard the cover version the first time last year at the Yokohama gundam site (I never watched the origin before that nor I knew it was using the same song but different version as the theme of the show). It's mechanical, lifeless and anti-climatic. It lacks pretty much everything compared to the og, especially the soul of the tm network's version that invokes somber thought and question about life.
It's a great song. It encapsulates the movie since all the characters are sort of trapped in a moebius ring, i.e. the cycle of violence and in this specific movie,.Char's Trauma from the loss of his parents and how he (unwittingly or.intentionally) perpetuates that cycle by turning Quess (another neglected and abused Child) into a weapon.
It's worth mentioning that Hathaway's Flash/The Hathaway movie's opening song is called "Moebius" and has a lyric about "shattering the Dark Moebius". Hathaway's Flash/the movie is the true sequel to CCA, and even the opening song harkens back to beyond the time, since it explores Hathaway's reaction to the events of CCA and his motivation to destroy the Mobius that has trapped him and everyone in CCA.
10000/10
I came across this song in SRW D first and was like 'damn what a fucking G music'
Melody is striking af. The moment you hear it, you'll remember it for the rest of your life.
The lyrics and tone encapsulates Gundam's melancholic musings on us being caught in a mobius loop of conflict and peace, our inability to stop fighting while longing for understanding and love, holding on to hopes for a better future.
I thought it was a great song. A bit otherworldly that fits the tone of the movie climax. But tbh once I heard ["Get Wild"](https://youtu.be/wK3_ZhGpKsQ?si=qE4MwXj8Z7H98l97) from City Hunter by the same group, it kinda replaced Beyond the Time on my playlist. It's still a great song, but it's no longer synonymous with TM Network for me anymore, and tbh, while it's fitting for the movie, it's not something I really crave listening to for fun. I'd rather get wild and tough.
I remember making a thread on the CCA soundtrack once I learning that the composer is a really big deal on the classical music scene. But yea CCA’s soundtrack is amazing.
As far as Gundam ending themes go, it's not my favorite... but that's not its fault, that's Tsuki no Mayu's
it's a fantastic song, probably one of the most memorable with or without the movie
Easily one of my favorite Gundam themes. Incredibly disappointed that newer SRW haven't used it (at least from V-onward)
Just the original TM Network version, not any of the covers that came later.
You know stuff is good when this theme appear during Axis Shock event of SRW Z3 Jigoku. Except its not just Amuro. But we got Mazinger Z, Shin Getter, Aquarion EVOL, Gurren Lagann, Gunbuster, Unicorn Gundam, EVA 01,Mithril Crew, freakin Armored Troopers, Big O, Macross Frontier crew, Dancouga Nova, Fire Bomber band giving support with their songs, Zeta Gundam, 00 Qan T and the Celestial Being Crew, Wing Gundam Zero Endless Waltz and the rest of the boys, the whole Londo Bell Crew, and othe cast im not mentioning push the Axis together.
The twist is its not Char who drop it, but Full Frontal. Char is making a plan of putting GN Drives all over the world so people will connect better to help push Axis, in case it was used as a weapon to drop on Earth.
All this, while "Beyond The Time" was playing in the background.
Half a Char / Amuro love song, half a love song for the Earth. It turns the notion of having your soul weighted down by gravity into something perhaps not outright positive, but still beautiful in a way and accepting it as the nature of human life. For the time being, at least.
10/10 perfect "You belong to me.SAYONARA ienakute"
"Itsumade mo dakishimeta katta...."
" I belong to you"
Harisake sou ni naru
10/10 Such a weird, awesome, melancholic yet powerful song. Perfect capstone to a hopeful yet somber ending.
Somehow, it was a great song for the one event that turned the page on the state of total war in the U.C. YOU CAN CHANGE THE DESTINY TOKI NO MUKOU
YOU CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE YAMI NO MUKOU
WE CAN SHARE THE HAPPINESS SAGASHITE YUKU

It’s an intentional coincidence. I thought the same at first until I looked it up after hearing him on SEED
I think Fukui genuinely did not understand what Tomino meant about newtypes and I will not elaborate further

11/10, the AMV was perfect too

10/10 Also Hi-Nu Gundam's theme.
It was perfect. PERFECT. Down to the last *minute* detail.
It's peak.
10/10
Everyone’s so used to daily polls they’re giving scores lol Anyways, a certified classic. CCA in general has an incredible soundtrack imo. 10/10
BEEEEEEYOOOND ZA TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME
It’s a pretty good song, but I’m kind of used to the sped-up version in Super Robot Wars D.
d is not bad but i think a3,gc,impact versions is good

10/10 absolute classic
Beyond the time/10 No notes.
The best send off Gundam Classic Trilogy could has. [This version in particular is my fav.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWzZ8Uv4Wow)

10/10 Fuck Origin for butchering it.
Nah fuck that, both renditions are 10/10, Beyond the Time is Glorious no matter what.
Hell no. Luna sea's one is absolutely awful on every aspect of what makes the original great. It's a disgrace to the original.
And I completely disagree.
That's fine. To each their own.
So, what's the thought?
It's just *chef's kiss* perfect. I love that song.
Perfection.
Cannot be topped, 1000/10
(1000000000000000000^10000000)/10 PERFECT JUST PERFECT
It’s coo but I prefer AURORA
Perfrct...perfect...absolute perfection Even if we ignore the symbolism pointed out by others here, this just a great song to listen to
10/10
10/10. I just made a comment discussing how the song perfectly explains the film.

10/10 Best gundam theme
YOU BELONG TO ME SAYONARA ienakute/10

Get Chance and Luck (I'm a huge TM Network fan and couldn't help myself)
Didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. Now i like it. But as an ending theme? Not my favourite I'd say.
I remember making a thread on the CCA soundtrack once I learning that the composer is a really big deal on the classical music scene. But yea CCA’s soundtrack is amazing.
The Greatest Song in all of Gundam
You Belong to Me!
10/10
tokino
I love this song so much, if I ever get the dream wedding this is playing, also makes me think if Amuro so it’s a very positive vibes song for me
As far as Gundam ending themes go, it's not my favorite... but that's not its fault, that's Tsuki no Mayu's it's a fantastic song, probably one of the most memorable with or without the movie
That jegan is so scuffed
I'm pretty sure that it's a Love song
Great.
I love it. It’s a beautiful song and a classic that is beyond time. I sometimes just play it to listen to it.
Love the song. Just got it off iTunes a couple months back (finally).
Love it
Easily one of my favorite Gundam themes. Incredibly disappointed that newer SRW haven't used it (at least from V-onward) Just the original TM Network version, not any of the covers that came later.
beyond the time is usable bgm in srw 30 premium sound pack

Play SRW Alpha 2 and see Axis going to crash in the background while Beyond the Time plays... All while fighting off Char in his Nightingale...
same
I like it more than the movie, frankly.
Love it. Enough said.
Half a Char / Amuro love song, half a love song for the Earth. It turns the notion of having your soul weighted down by gravity into something perhaps not outright positive, but still beautiful in a way and accepting it as the nature of human life. For the time being, at least.
