The original actor apparently signed on without realising that the role was going to be quite small and infrequent, featuring mostly in cut always and flashbacks. NHP was interviewed and gave some not so subtle digs at the guy before praising Ray Wise for taking over. Personally I think Wise is far more intimidating.
Yeah, I think Braeden also claimed that he was recovering from hip surgery too, which made him want to decrease his work load a tad.
I seem to remember Neilās statements coming in the form of tweets too.

Yep. And I'll always remember the other dad as that dude from young and the restless (my mum watched it all the time when i was a kid)
Also reaper was canned too soon. Have you seen new Amsterdam? Tyler labine (sock) is in it and damn he can act
It's not important. Ted just forgot how he looked like and he envisioned a different man when he talked to his kids about Robin's dad. Or actually Ted never met Robin's dad, maybe Robin gave some conflicting descriptions to Ted?
actually when barney first meets him ted says something about how it went better than his first time meeting him bc he said he thought ted was wearing a blouse or smth
I wonder how many other actors were on both shows?
I'll use IMDB's comparison tool.
Ian Abercrombie, aka the old wizard from Waverly Place, was the Ben Franklin impressionist in that one episode with Barney's threesome flashback, and he was also in Twin Peaks as a guest at the Great Northern, talking to Shelly about insurance. And Ernie Hudson.
Tom is also different. Barneyās step mom. When we first heard Barneyās mom voice, I was really hoping to see Megan Mullally as Barneyās real mom. But they ārecastedā her, I guess.
I was surprised Eric Braeden even took this role. He is the goat of soap opera stars and has had a major leading role for decades. I wish he would have remained the father. I thought he was perfect for the role. However, I did love the actor they switched to. He played the part really well.
it was talked about at the time because they had a press release about it so we prob just moved passed it if we watched at airtime
I certainly preferred the original dad's energy but Wise didnt bother me at all
We all knew what happened and why he was recast.
Putting it nicely, Eric apparently didnāt gel well with the cast and crew. Which is why the character was recast with Ray Wise.
I think first dad Robinās better matched for that role. He was tall and that second actror was short. But wirters must changed actor maybe because, first actor played dad Robin when she was teenger.

Neil Hat-Trick Parris
what a save!
I thought Braeden's pseudo hyper gravitas was funnier, but given where they ended up taking the character it's probably better Ray Wise took over.
Yeah, I loved his "TEAM MATES DON'T KISS! Hockey players... don't kisssss!"
Wise does an amazing job with the rolešš»

They do talk about it.
In the show or in interviews?
Both. They nod to it when Robinās dad comes back when he says āRobin.. Iām fun now!ā
I thought this was just a nod to his mid-life crisis, I didnāt take it as a comment on the actor change but fair assessment tbh.
Didn't they change the actor beforehand tho? I thought the call in the last words episode was from the new actor.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Barney's stepmom?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did she have different actors? Doesn't she only appear once?
I think she appears twice..once during the basketball hoop episode and once during the wedding
Ranjit got setup as a kidnapper š
Yessss. Weirdš
Because recasting rarely used side characters is common. Also, I really don't think anyone will complain when Ray Wise shows up.
He'll always be the Devil from Reaper for me. Peak actor for the role.
He's always the devil or a priest. Kinda unironically ironic... Either way, he's always great!
Leon Nash in Robocop. "I got him, Clarence!"
I loved him in that show
Yep. And I'll always remember the other dad as that dude from young and the restless (my mum watched it all the time when i was a kid) Also reaper was canned too soon. Have you seen new Amsterdam? Tyler labine (sock) is in it and damn he can act
Leland Palmer in Twin Peaksš„µ
Father Westley from Psych.
Boom boom boom... Muffins!
I loved Psych. I'm happy they gave it an actual ending. Another awesome show that they gave an ending to was Chuck
If you haven't watched or don't know about the three movies that came out after Psych ended You really should.
Oh man, I forgot about those. Yes, they were awesome!
It's not important. Ted just forgot how he looked like and he envisioned a different man when he talked to his kids about Robin's dad. Or actually Ted never met Robin's dad, maybe Robin gave some conflicting descriptions to Ted?

Ted as unreliable narrator again. š
Didnāt know Victor Newman had a daughter
Wasn't his daughter Nikki? Running trubo isn't a one man job
I think Nikki was the blonde wife. The daughter was named Victoria.
That's right!!
Wait is the second one Leland Palmer?
Yeah, wonder if he knew The Captainā¦

Ok, I used to use the comparison tool for years, then one day it disappeared. Where do you find it?
Thank you so much I was about to go into a deep rabbit hole trying to find such information
Wait hold up, Ernie Hudson was on Twin Peaks?
Yes he was in a General uniform and Gordon Cole talks to him. Maybe it was Denise. But it was only in one episode
He is
Tom is also different. Barneyās step mom. When we first heard Barneyās mom voice, I was really hoping to see Megan Mullally as Barneyās real mom. But they ārecastedā her, I guess.
I think of the Barney's mom thing the same as Bob Saget playing the voice of older Ted.
Classic Shmosby, canāt even recall what Robinās dad looks liked correctly. Such an unreliable narrator.
I was surprised Eric Braeden even took this role. He is the goat of soap opera stars and has had a major leading role for decades. I wish he would have remained the father. I thought he was perfect for the role. However, I did love the actor they switched to. He played the part really well.
āI have no sonā
It happens a lot in sitcoms. It isn't even the only mid 2000s sitcom to recast the role of a main character's parent
it was talked about at the time because they had a press release about it so we prob just moved passed it if we watched at airtime I certainly preferred the original dad's energy but Wise didnt bother me at all
That happens all the time in tv. It's not a big deal
I like the first one. He was always offering up an assortment of soft drinksā¦ and American pretzels.
"Do you know about memes? There is a cat and it says: I can has cheezburger" what an epic line, I still hear it in his voice in my head.
Thatās Victor Newman
It has been talked about and everyone's aware of it. Recasting happens. Strange thing to post.
Whats there to talk about? they changed actors, end of story
Thank you
They had to recast, the first one died on the Titanic.
Terrible, Literally made HIMYM unwatchable for me
We all knew what happened and why he was recast. Putting it nicely, Eric apparently didnāt gel well with the cast and crew. Which is why the character was recast with Ray Wise.
Itās common in sitcoms
I think first dad Robinās better matched for that role. He was tall and that second actror was short. But wirters must changed actor maybe because, first actor played dad Robin when she was teenger.
Died on the Titanic.
Why would we talk about it. Recasts happen all the time.
I know recast it's a common thing in sitcom, but I liked the first guy better. The second one is just dumb, like all dad's in the show.
Its discussed enough, just like any change of actors or actors for different characters
Something something Ted's memory, something something.
