If you have chemistry, yiu just need one thing. Timing. But Timing's a bitch

Quirky-Clock-2573

I am rewatching the show for the first time since the final season, and I love both Ted and Robin individually but I cannot in my mind see them together in the final ending….it goes against everything we were told throughout the series. Ted always loved Robin way more then she loved him….throughout the seasons Robin always made it clear to Ted it was never going to work between them. I don’t think Robin was meant to go back to Ted. Maybe season 2 or 3 Robin but not what we saw with her character after 9 seasons. It just feels like Robin only accepted Ted when she had no one else in her life to turn to.

Latter_Feeling2656

By jumping forward so fast and explaining so little, the writers make it look like Ted and Robin either have get back together, or die alone. We know almost nothing about their lives in 2030.

sexbobombj

the deleted lunch scene with Ted and Robin *helped* provide a bit more that was missing from Robin’s POV but totally agree that they rushed way too fast to make that jump feel natural, it’s a shame

NormandaleWells

I think Robin always loved Ted, but knew that since they wanted different things (Ted wanted a family, Robin a career) it could never be. In 2030, Ted's kids were old enough for Robin to be okay with them, so the relationship could finally work.

damonsbff

complete agree, it was weird that only on s9 they made her doubt if Barney was the right choice when she made clear multiple times that her and Ted were not going to work

Extra_Cartoonist_377

Grammar police millennial here... it has to be said to make your point valid though.... THAN NOT THEN!!! MORE THAN SHE LOVED HIM...

JoelSletten

My interpretation of the entire thing is that even the best stories arent always perfect. Throughout teds story we see tons of examples of where they dont live happily ever after. Real life sucks, is unfair and two people who seem so great together wont stay together. Its a super realistic show where the oh so amazing (not ironic) tracy passed away instead of them riding into the sunset. Because that does happen sometimes in the real world

Extra_Cartoonist_377

You are supposed to bury your parents not your children. I lost my 10 year old daughter in 2020. There aren't always the endings you hope and plan for. And your Higher Power doesn't always answer your prayers the way you want them to.

JoelSletten

not sure if you were disagreeing with me or not. but yeah, shows and movies often paint this picture of a happy ending. perfect family, love, and happiness when in reality it rarely is like that.

Extra_Cartoonist_377

I was agreeing

Latter_Feeling2656

"I think it felt too sad. And I couldn't entirely get comfortable with Robin telling Ted she has feelings for him." Well, that's useful information, anyway: the "deleted lunch scene" was deleted because its content didn't fit, not just because they had to cut things for time.

doomedaccountant

> I’m not entirely sure they don’t end up together eventually Is he implying here than Barney and Robin can still end up together in spite of the events of the finale? How would that play out? Like maybe after getting with Ted in 2030 Robin cheats on him with Barney in 2035 loool

damonsbff

Maybe Ted and Robin try dating once again, and like all the other times before, they don't work.. So her and Barney end up together a few years later

normott

Having finally gotten back into the show since it ended recently. The way i made peace with the ending was that Robin and Ted dont necessarily work out just cause he wants to try again. I was neither team Ted nor Barney really so i was never bothered by the divorce(only that we spent too much time on the wedding). The thing that turned me off was Robin and Ted... again...after all the other times it failed. But yeah after rewatching im now on the Aunt Robin is like bro...lets stay friends..maybe with benefits or something

She’s a mess

Maybe just me, but when people say "first of all..." I'm always expecting a "second/secondly..." feels like a half thought without a follow up, ya know? If there's no secondary point there was no need to classify the statement as "first of all" as if the the start of a list! You could just say "people have chemistry and don't end up together all the time" because it's not the first of all the points, it's the ONLY POINT! 😤😤😖😫😫😠

[deleted]

Yeah I feel like he just typed bullshit vague answers

Stopher

I think they should have killed Ted off instead of Tracey.

[deleted]

That would have lot worse reaction than the mother dying lol and that wouldn't make sense.

Stopher

They were watching a video the whole time. Or like he was terminal and wanted to let them know his life story before he died. It's better than killing off Tracy. lol.

mmohtasham

People change as they grow older. Ted's kids were nearly grown up and out of the house, which was the main roadblock for Ted and Robin. Chemistry is not as big of a priority as you get older. Some people just need a friend to spend the rest of their lives with and Robin and Ted were great friends. Patton Oswalt got re-married to the hot girl from "Dream a Little Dream" for god's sakes.

[deleted]

The older daughter was 15. The son was 13. No they weren't nearly out of the house they had five years to go.

Extra_Cartoonist_377

And thats a very long time to a teen!

damonsbff

THAT LAST TWEET ON THE SECOND SLIDE.... oh wow. It just gave me hope after the finale, Robin joins the gang and Barney and her eventually end up together now that they're both stable
