Ecstatic_Teaching906

To put it lightly. I played a few HP games and none of them had ever made me feel like I'm in the world of Harry Potter than Hogwarts Legacy. Could it be better? Most definitely. But I am content with what I got.

EmergencyTaco

Absolutely. The best HP game ever and it’s not even close. But there are a ton of ways it could be better. I’m really hopeful we start to get one of these every 2-3 years and the developers really come into their own.

dilqncho

Yep. HL wasn't perfect but we need to remember it came from a studio that had *zero* experience with projects like that. With that in mind, it's an amazing first effort. I'm excited to see what they do as they get better.

EmergencyTaco

Exactly. The last non-mobile game these guys made was [*Cars 3: Driven to Win*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cars_3:_Driven_to_Win)*.* To follow that up with such an expansive and polished RPG like HL was an absolutely astonishing feat. That said, they've now set the bar. I want to be clear that if the next installation is just a rehashing of this game they're going to lose me really quickly. It was a ton of fun to play through, but eventually you realize the game is basically just fetch quests and the same few puzzles, and combat is laughably easy on even the hardest difficulty. The game was a solid 9/10 for their first try, but it would be a 6 out of 10 if they released it again.

dilqncho

Oh yeah agreed. I'm hoping they use the very solid foundation, map and world they built here, but expand on the gameplay, systems, and storytelling.

EmergencyTaco

I truly don't think they need to make many changes to the map at all. I would love if they directed a bunch of the world-building budget to a gameplay mechanics and storytelling team. I would also like for there to be at least another 3-4 notches in difficulty. I bumped up to very hard almost immediately and found myself having to regularly limit myself in order for there to be some level of challenge. By the end of the game I was operating on a ruleset of: 1. No plants 2. No potions 3. No unforgivable curses 4. Max 5 wiggenweld pots at any time 5. Only basic casts unless there's a shield. That's when I realized that just to derive some enjoyment/challenge from the game I had to stop using basically everything in the game.

eeeedaj

It’s not that easy for people who don’t spend their lives playing video games and just came to this for the love of the Harry Potter world.

EmergencyTaco

Sure, but for plenty of players the game was laughably easy and it was a central complaint. I’m not suggesting to remove the lower difficulties, I would just like to actually be challenged by the hardest ones.

eeeedaj

I guess that just shows how vast the difference between people can be, as I actually loved that I could enjoy this game without constantly being frustrated by combat that was so too challenging. I did the opposite of you and switched to easy haha. There’s been so many other games people rave about that I give up on quickly because combat is too difficult. But I am a very casual gamer and prefer exploration over intense combat. So maybe I just suck, but I can’t imagine how hard hard mode would actually be.

EmergencyTaco

Absolutely! The important thing about gaming is to play in the way that you enjoy. I'm the type of gamer that likes to get smacked down by a challenge over and over again while I try to figure out the perfect solution to a challenge. For me there's no thrill if there isn't a serious challenge to overcome. Unless I'm playing Stardew Valley. That game can do no wrong.

RiceSpare24

We are basically the same 🫶🏻🥹🤣 I always avoid battles while playing, my son on the other hand would just ignore quests and walk arround the forbidden forest looking for trouble 🤣

Proudest___monkey

In the deathly hallows trial I needed like 15 wiggenwelds on like normal or hard

EmergencyTaco

That was absolutely the hardest part of the game, and by far my favorite as well. I think that was the first time I had died since like the very beginning. I would love for that to be the standard, at least for boss battles.

RiceSpare24

I was screaming at my Nintendo the first time I had to face a troll (I play on medium difficulty) 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but yes, I prefer exploring and I would never went to battle without at least 20 wiggenwelds 🤣🫶🏻

Spikeybear

I think no matter what they do it will be worse because people just wanted to walk through Hogwarts. That's been done, nothing else they do will eclipse that.

TheStinkySlinky

Exited to see what they do?? Have you not seen all th suicide squad drama? And them saying yeah HP sold millions but we’re gonna keep flushing our cash down the toilet with the suicide squad live service model..that bombed.

PM_me_your_PhDs

Suicide Squad just confuses me. Like I feel like nobody really gives a shit about that IP? Why did they even put so much focus on it? Even if the game had been good, I just don't feel like that many people care about the Suicide Squad.

Ecstatic_Teaching906

Wish we could have Hogwarts Online game. Where we make friends and rivals throughout the seven years in Hogwarts.

jfks_headjustdidthat

God no. That *seems* like a good idea but live service almost always makes things worse, the developer always loads them up with micro transactions and destroys what it's trying to portray in the process. I loved Fallout before Fallout 76.

cez001

Yes! I feel the same about Fallout. I think it would be awesome to have \[Hogwarts Legacy\] multiplayer, in a similar style to Farcry 6 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)

jfks_headjustdidthat

Yeah, true perhaps 4-way co-op so you can have one from each house. 😊 Weirdly, I'm playing Farcry 6 co-op with a friend ATM.

AidenBMurrayUK

Yeah that seems perfect

reebee7

>I am content with what I got. For sure, and this is key. I eagerly await a sequel to see if it carries forward what it did so well and improves what was lacking.

geno2733

Quidditch Champions is still in development as well.

Lone-sith

Put some respect on Lego harry potter’s name

BeastOfRetribution

Honestly the best answer imo

BillCatsby

I agree with a lot of others when they say this is a very "safe" first game. Good, but absolutely room for improvement.

Wise-Cash1628

Same here, I am only missing one thing : Quidditch !

RiceSpare24

I'm missing two, Quidditch and the possibility of becoming an animagus. It would be great to participate in the Tri -Wizzard tournament too 🫶🏻

Ecstatic_Teaching906

Too bad that tournament was banned before our time.

Wise-Cash1628

Also, I was a big fan of the pottermore questionary to define your house. Here it is a bit shallow and obvious. We also miss the patronum!

tbone747

That's where I'm at. Decent enough game, but truly fantastic at making you feel immersed in the HP world.

Agitated-Rest1421

For the price, i am far from content

geno2733

I grabbed it when it went on sale. Dark Arts Pack all.

RiceSpare24

Same! Got the deluxe edition or wtv its called, for 40 something €

INKatana

Yes and no

Aetherene

This is my response too. Amazing world, love hogwarts, great side missions even. Main story is meh.

Itsahootenberry

Nearly everyone I’ve ever spoke to or seen commented on here or on YouTube has said that Sebastian’s storyline seems more like the main story compared to the ancient magic story.

AidenBMurrayUK

I love Sebastian’s storyline it was entirely original and I felt like an average student trying to help a friend

Itsahootenberry

Throw in the fact on how much everyone loves Sebastian and Ominis- the main story didn’t stand a chance.

AidenBMurrayUK

Exactly! The Seb quest line just felt like the wizarding world, where as the main story felt like a main story of the most powerful 5th year student of all time… we already have enough powerful wizards, I just want a bit of groundedness and humbleness in the next game.

Itsahootenberry

You go in expecting to be like Harry and you come out being more like Dumbledore magic wise. Lol.

AidenBMurrayUK

No doubt that the canon main character for HL will end up being Dumbledore. Just kidding lmao 🤣

Ambitious-Note-4428

Honestly yes

Sora1274

I have not played the game in a year. I loved it and got the platinum, but haven’t thought about it since til this popped up on my home page. I loved the Sebastian storyline, but a year later I don’t think I could tell you what happened in the main storyline as it didn’t stick with me like the main story did. In fact until I read a comment someone below saying it was about ancient magic, I completely forgot. still loved the game and I hope we get a sequel

Austerellis

Yes, that pretty much sums up my experience, too. It's really beautiful. I just wish they had made a more compelling main story.

THE-TEN-HELLS

The Sebastian Sallow quest line tho😘👌

PhysicalMulberry8127

Literally made the game. My fav Slytherin for life (sorry Draco ily too)

Austerellis

Sebastian is amazing. I think Sebastian and Poppy are well-made characters and thoroughly deserve to be in a sequel: the good one and the bad one. But the bad one is only bad because of circumstance and not because he is a one-sided Slytherin maniac like most of those in the Potter books (Pansy Parkinson, Crabbe, Goyle, and Malfoy come to mind). I wish they had added some more edge to, what's her name... Nattie? She is very sweet and helpful, but I didn't get into her character. Nor with the Astrology guy.

valaina1982

Entirely this. I enjoyed that sooo much. I'm a sucker for a bit of story in games. I'm a bit late to the party and just finished my first playthrough. I was waiting for the game to go down in price lol.

Proudest___monkey

I think the world is amazing, going forward I think the second one needs to be way more interactive. The worlds built now build on it

stevisonl

Totally disagree. Game design, combat, questing was great but the open world felt so empty and repetitive.

Proudest___monkey

It was but in a big way you’re agreeing with me. The worlds there now do something with it

Austerellis

I think we need a sequel to include different areas you can visit - portkeys, maybe? Let's see the areas around Hogwarts, but they shouldn't be so full of enemies. Especially those dark wizards. They're literally everywhere. A much bigger variety of enemies would be nice. More magical moments outside Hogwarts, too. There's a lot they can do with this game in a sequel. The world outside Hogwarts needs to be more engaging or, as you say, interactive.

young_frogger

For me it’s the gameplay being too easy. Hard to feel satisfied when there’s no real challenge being presented.

BizarreOwl

I had to change it to hard mode so I would actually use potions and plants again

AidenBMurrayUK

Yeah, the risk factor wasn’t strong enough.

iSmartiKindiImportnt

Likewise. I’ve got a smol qualm with the dialogue choices & feel like there could’ve been a *liiiiiiiiiiiittle* more in gameplay but other than that, it’s a yes & no lol

Nature-Witch95

I agree! I am new to gaming tbh and only have otherwise played Skyrim but you have a bit more variety. Do you want to be chaotic good? Chaotic evil? Lawful or thief? You have options. The character just could have been a little bit deeper. It just feels a little blah.

Old-Contribution2960

Hmmm I actually agree ....the storyline could have been more connecting for sure , but hogwarts legacy has some fantastic features...gameplay, graphics and scenery is amazing.

Nature-Witch95

Omg yes the scenery and just little things you notice when you look closely. It's so captivating and even the "battles" and everything are so smooth.

Falcon_Medical

Absolutely stunning recreation of the world. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. In every detail the creators of the game love the WW and poured that love into the game. I still will wander around the Hogwarts, finding little details I hadn’t noticed before. The combat system also was fun if a bit overpowered by the time you reach level 40 (the PC as a 5th year could have smoked the Death Eaters and likely HWSNBN). On the other hand, the main story was just OK, and I wish they had been more interactions with fellow students & classes to attend. Most annoyingly, none of your decisions matter other than a slightly different line of dialogue. On the whole… I give it a very solid A-, and the rendition of the WW boosts it massively.

aleisterfowley

That turning point where you go from using all your health potions all the time to basically being a living teenage god is extremely fun once you realize what you’re doing.

Suspicious-Sky-8546

That's my answer too. I wish the different dialogue options had more meaning/there were different endings or something.

sillyadam94

Yeah… it’s got a lot going for it, but its shortcomings are clear as day. Definitely a strong foundation upon which a much better game could be built.

Alizaea

My answer too. More no than yes, but still yes and no.

demoncyborgg

same, it is good but it can get so much better

Klappersten

Damn exactly what I thought when I saw the question

thedragon_bored

Perfectly phrased

ch1nomachin3

I'm happy for what it gave me as a Potter fan, a chance to explore Hogwarts. As for gameplay it's nothing special and the story is mostly forgettable. Honestly most of my enjoyment came from walking around looking at architecture, reading lore and rediscovering places I've seen only partially in the movies.

targayenprincess

This! The game lacked consequences - they didn’t diverge the story line enough so it didn’t matter what I chose. The story line is also…. It’s okay?? But like. Just ok. The world and visuals was what I came for

chill_winston_

Agreed: the storyline is incredibly just ok. 😅

Over-Analyzed

No Ravenclaw student storyline!

childofthewind

It’s so funny that you say the game lacks consequences… In the beginning, I was super careful with using unforgivable curses. I only used them in goblin camps or when only Sebastian was around. Then I saw a YouTube video of someone using them in the school in front of teachers and all anyone would ever say was: “That is a very bad spell, you know!”. I laughed so hard. So unforgivable… 🤣

ravenclawdisneyfan

I got more invested in the side stories like some of them where really cool, the main story was okay.

krsvbg

Hell yeah, it was a very immersive experience even for someone who had no experience with Harry Potter (neither books nor movies). After I completed the story, I just moved on to other games. It took me a good 40 hours! I was very happy with it.

the101ishell

love the base game but has very little replay value. i wish they would have delayed the game a little more to flesh out all of the deleted content. or even release it as DLC, which i'm normally very against the concept of.

geno2733

Cutting room DLC would be a good way to generate extra revenue for the next installment.

Extra_Honeydew4661

As an action adventure, yes, as an RPG 👎.

SupportMoist

Yes I didn’t want to play a fighting/murder game, I wanted to be a student at Hogwarts. I wish it was more role play. I pictured it as The Sims at Hogwarts with better graphics. Hahaha

KTerrG

I was hoping for Bully but Hogwarts.

Over-Analyzed

I wanted more classes! Let me do more school related minigames!

KTerrG

Definitely. We were not students. How many students can break curfew for days without attending class?

Over-Analyzed

Like others have said, hoping for “Bully” but we got this. I don’t feel like a HP student. We don’t even have a Ravenclaw student storyline. We have a side quest that requires so little involvement. We only do the spell minigame once per spell. 🤷🏻‍♂️

poirot11

Yeah, we can’t even sleep in the dormitory

reebee7

Yep, totally.

B23_95

Hogwarts castle is great, the open world is very beautiful, the music is perfect, the beast & vivarium system is cool, the combat is decent everything else is mid. 7/10 game.

agressive-nosebleed

Just finished slogging out the Merlin Trails 1/10 for them 🤣 and the UI is a big fat 0/10 the map system, and icons are awful things get hidden and covered by other things. I'm yet to go after the chests and pages but reckon that's going to bring the game down a lot on my score sheet 👌🏼 I don't mind the odd collectathon but Hogwarts Legacy takes collect items to whole new level especially with half of them being invisible

B23_95

You are a real soldier for doing all those trials lol

gabbie_the_gay

I thought I was done after doing 100 of them. Then I saw there was another like 200????

volverde

It's an okay game but it can get repetitive and boring fast. But flying around is cool.

kdsSJ

So true, I got bored of it before I even finished the game. I got past the 3rd trial and it’s been months since I’ve played it.

Robbytje

I finished it 4 times. It fulfills for me an open world HP game wish which i've had for a long time. However, it's not a perfect game. The more times you replay it, the more obvious it becomes. That being said, I very often open it up just to fly around and terrorize cows and find great satisfaction in doing so.

91Zebra

Or cows terrorising us by staying in the way when u tried to solve a puzzle where u have to move around a big ball to the ground pit.

k-3bady

Or cast Transformation on them

tnetenbaa

It was a good game, but I am definitely not satisfied, seeing all that was cut. Even taking it being in the HP universe out of the equation, the world was too samey to really get immersed once leaving Hogwarts, not to mention surprisingly empty, the main story felt rushed and very predictable, and it just felt like there was nothing to do outside of the story.

addled_rph

Not really. In-battle magic is limited and uninspiring, and out-of-combat magic is repetitive; no sense of growth as a wizard. The game focused on a goblin rebellion for some annoying reason, so naturally you’re a homicidal student indiscriminately killing goblins and wizards who spews “your blood is on Ranrok’s hands” after every other kill. They didn’t need to make it open-world exploration, and that’s where the game falls flat. You’re a student, but attend like 6 classes? Lol. There are no real repercussions for learning & casting unforgivable curses. The entirety of the game outside of the lackluster MSQ is fetch-quests & Field Guide completion to appease those OCD completionists, and four(?) quidditch races. Overall the game lacked direction & focus, and resulted in an expensive mediocre RPG. I played it to completion to get my money’s worth, but if you take a step back & analyze without the nostalgia bias, you’ll realize it’s not that great. But to each their own.

Nicktheduck

6/10 for me. I'm not a huge potter fan but the world and a game like this always interested me. But it just was a really bland open world rpg. Outside of hogwarts and hogsmeade the world was boring and uninspired. And besides the slytherin quest line, side quests were really dull. There's a lot they can improve on when they make the second one. So it wasn't terrible for their first go, but unless you're a huge potter fan this game just doesn't really get it done.

Spectronautic1

Loved the initial feeling of being in the world I grew up reading, but as an rpg it didn’t grab me. Didn’t make it much further past the first trial.

GifanTheWoodElf

Yeah, it's a good game. I can't call it a GREAT game, but it's pretty good.

AnEyeshOt

Good. 7/10, Very repetitive but at least it looks good and the art is amazing.

melodiousfable

Between my wife and I, we have played through the game 5 times in two years. While I think that speaks for itself, I wish the game out less of an emphasis on its main plot (which feels like a side plot) and focused more on actual classes and unique experiences within the castle that are integrated into the story. I wanted more Hogwarts with my Hogwarts. Does that make sense? But still very clearly the most immersive Harry Potter game of all time.

hendrix320

It’s only been out for a year? I was so confused by your comment until I looked up the release date

Giveme-oui-oui873

The world and the school were beautiful but I was expecting a little more freedom and a morality system HP is literally a story of good vs evil… so why if I do bad things there’s no consequences? There were no social events or system like friends and balls and quidditch games no popularity system your in high school for bobs sake I’m pretty disappointed. For 100 bucks yea slightly pisses even. And I want to give credit for the beauty of the world …. But it’s LITERALLY the least they could do when i can’t even customize my armor or give my player and personality

therealnatural1337

Developpers: You can choose also to be a villain Main protagonist the most wicked dialogue: « No i don’t have time to find your book right now i’m so sorry »

Justisperfect

I was so surprised to learn that all you get was red eyes for a few seconds at the end. You have to imagine yourself the consequences.

[deleted]

Yes, one of my favorite games from last year

commanderr01

100% yes it was worth the money I paid.

Ashalaria

Hogwarts itself? Dope af Countryside? Eughhh too many merlin trials holy shit

ButterflyBeana

It feels hollow. Pretty but hollow. More character development, interactions and story are so needed

reebee7

In some ways, yes. In some ways, no. It's beautiful. Walking around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade (especially early on) was magical. The combat--and this surprised me most of all--is very fun, very engaging, and feels a lot more like 'wand fighting' than I thought possible. Potion making and plant growing is satisfying enough--I liked having a room of requirement full of potions brewing and plants sprouting. The main story is strong enough, though some of the dialogue and characterization is a little shallow. But. The RPG immersion was surprisingly weak. I expected much more class-going, much more activities around Hogwarts. Classes could have appeared as mini-games that resulted in spell strengths leveling up. There could have been a lot more around the grounds and Hogmeade, a la summoner's court and dueling club. A house cup, activities and conversations in the common rooms, all that really felt surprisingly lacking and is what I'd like to see more of in the next game. Also, there's no need for the map to be so big. Late game hamlet finding got mundane and repetitive. I'd have preferred to go to another school, or to Diagon Alley, some place smaller but more alive, than the endless sprawl. Though I know sprawl is much easier and cost effective to make!

Justisperfect

Yes, I want to finish 100% but I think I will give that up cause it so boring, I just go around the countryside completing who know how much Merlin's trial, looking for chests, ancient magic sources... It is repetitive, they didn't need to have that much. I think conversations in common room would have been a great addition. At first I thought that our sidequests would change depending on our chosen house and that it would help developping friendship with the students of our house, that we learn more about them. I don't mind that Sebastian, Natty and Poppy sidequest was available for aln (in particular Sebastian's), but Ravenclaw were robbed of their sidequest, and there could have been a bit more. I thought the people we meet in the common room when we arrive were going to be important friends, but no. But anyway, the game was cool. It jusy could have been mire fleshed out.

lemoyne22

One of the most disappointing games I have ever played, hype was real high 6-7/10 max for me

HerrPiink

Because it could have easily been a 9/10 if the choices mattered, or there wouldn't be so much cut content everywhere, like the missing companion- and bounty systems.

Verydumbname69

How does 7/10 signify disappointing lol

Deadcouncil445

When you expect a 9-10/10 because of the hype you're gonna be disappointed that it's just an okay game

kvrai12

Yeah 7/10 for me is “pretty good” but that’s it. The hype around this game was WILD. I think for die hard fans that are already gamers it’s like an 8-8.5 though. I can see why HP fans who don’t game a lot and experienced running around Hogwarts would absolutely love this though

Karlito1618

Eh. Overall it's a solid 7-8/10 if you're a HP fan, 5-6/10 if you're not. I would say I'm satisfied, but not overwhelmingly so. The castle and hogsmeade was immaculately done. A lot of the design and art I would say fall into this category too, even outside of the main hubs. Couple of the mechanics are interesting, like the beasts and the room of requirements. Everything else, meh. Fairly generic. Around mid to late game, I feel like everything becomes so repetitive and boring to me. There's only so many types of enemies, the spell system is fairly shallow, the side activities are *very* repetitive and boring. The story has some bits that are great, primarily side quests with your class mates, but mostly it's also just, competent and generic. Bar a few stand out features, I feel like this is a solid foundation, and not much else. It tried to be a little bit of everything, and didn't really deliver much on all those features. Like, being spoiled for clever mechanics, incredible design, amazing atmosphere while in the castle, literally everything else outside it just pales in comparison. Which is a shame, the potential for the game as a whole is there, and there's nothing explicitly terrible about it. Like, think of it like this. If this was just a game about a generic new IP about wizards, how would the game hold up for you? Like, a game like KOTOR for another franchise is so good, that people that hate the franchise have it as one of their favorite games of all time. And other open world games absolutely puts it to shame.

jackrabbit5lim

8/10 I think it’s really good and captured the magic of the series well. I think for future additions in the series it would be great if they can flesh the world out more. - Add the original music - More locations such as ministry of magic and diagon alley etc - Underwater exploration with gilly weed - Triwizard tournament / quidditch storylines - The ability to choose your path more (good/dark wizard)

loborodas

I agree. Especially regarding the wizard path, since it broke the immersion; for example, I was Abra Kadabring everything in sight and no one seemed to care at all.

PhysicalMulberry8127

Yeah I’m really happy with it. I wasn’t expecting a character like Sebastian sallow but he honestly to me is better than any HP character. His storyline makes the game so fire & the action cutscenes are awesome with Ranrok & Rookwood. I definitely expected more of a hogwarts student experience but I’m more than happy with what we got. The fact we are like a minor god is also sick. 😂

Dolly912

The Sebastian quest was better than the main story

wherestherum757

7/10 - it was fun the first play through, really cool since we’ve waited a while for a AAA like HP game I haven’t really wanted to replay it tho. Combat is rather easy imo & im not too good at video games. This jumps to a 9/10 if one’s a big HP fan (I’ve read the first four, not the biggest fan when they leave hogwarts) Satisfied? Yes.

jeffluvsdokkan

I got it day 1 and played about 20% of the story and decided it wasn’t for me. Maybe if I was a bigger HP fan I would’ve enjoyed it more tho.

Level_Ad_4639

Easely a 8/10 game

BlueCollarElectro

Best visual representation of Hogwarts for sure. Content as a player, could be better.

WeAreAllFooked

14 year old me would have devoured this game. Adult me found it a little repetitive at times and I found the main story to be a little meh. I did enjoy the combat system for what it was, Hogwarts was exceptionally well done, and the map itself is huge. The whole "this 5th-year student with little magical training can wipe the floor of full-blown wizards because of ancient magic" was a a little too "handwavy" at moments. But overall I did enjoy the game.

Justisperfect

Yeah, I really don't like when the MC is good at everything jusy because they are the MC, despite just having learn something. Not only in fights but you can beat everyone in a broom or at this action game, every teacher will compliment you for being so great when it is jusy your first lesson... I'd wish there were at least a system of strengths and weaknesses.

WeAreAllFooked

It doesn’t work mainly because the MC is a teenager. The world of Harry Potter isn’t really fleshed out beyond the Hogwarts region so it makes the most financial sense to centre the story around Hogwarts, since that’s what everyone knows. A game based around being an Aurora or something would make a better story, but that’s a big risk, and studios are too scared to try it

Lord_Flapington

about a 7/10. Combat is surprisingly good, the castle and Hogsmeade are pretty fun to explore, never used the RoR much personally but it's a nice feature, and broom flying is fun enough. But it falls down massively on both the world outside the castle which isnt nearly as fun to explore and the ungodly amount of repeated content. A couple of Merlin Trials are interesting enough, but after 50 or so, some of which are more or less exactly the same, I started to lose my mind. The story is eh. Tells a lot that everyone was more invested in Sebastians plotline than the main plot. Also it seems like it was setting up Isidora as the big bad only to do away with her in a cutscene and give us an underwhelming black jam covered final boss instead.

RedDevil_nl

Loved my playthrough, has no replay value or endgame tho… worth it for that one time at least

WoolyCheese247

Yes, just for the love of god don’t let the next be a live service.

RoosterShield

Hogwarts Legacy is like the first Matrix movie. It's an amazing, unforgettable experience, but unfortunately it really only can be experienced the same way once. While it was such a surreal experience walking through the halls of Hogwarts, exploring Hogsmeade, and flying around the countryside, the game lacks replayability in my opinion. It's definitely worth picking it up to play through the game at least once, and it was a great experience for sure.

Alex_von_Norway

As someone who vever have been interested in the HP series, this game made me quite satisfied.

ChainzawMan

If it just had NG+ or at least transfer my outfit I would play it way more often. Other than that for what it is, the game was very satisfying even though I was more fascinated by the Sallow quest the the ancient magic topic. For the next installment I hope choices and consequences play a bigger role and that post game the world doesn't feel so empty.

Born_Ad_6385

I’ve enjoyed playing so far but it’s been going by pretty quick. Also, was disappointed when I found out that the game is only a year at hogwarts.

rafoaguiar

I'm 20 hours in an still having fun. I'm more into exploring and dueling than the story, but both are entertaining. 8/10. Edit: changing the looks everytime you equip something is pretty annoying.

DrunkBeardGuy

Yup It's a solid 7-8/10 game. It has more strengths than weaknesses, and there's a solid foundation to work with in a sequel.

patoxotappato

Na, after a while it was easy to put down. The world seemed super repetitive. Everything must have been stately in it’s time lol

KennyStocks

Ehhh. I was for the first 2-3 months. But now that I look back, was a little bit of a let down.

chocoboporter

World - 8/10, graphics - 8/10, gameplay - 7/10, story - 5/10. I still play the game from time to time and what made me enjoy it is the world and exploration. If some of the places especially the southern part of the map weren't feeling empty, strange despite fact the entire map was overpopulated with Merlin trials and treasure vaults, I could've given the open world a higher score. Also, I'll forever become salty about the lack of QoL features in the game especially in Hogwarts. Overall I'll give it a 7/10. Satisfied? This must've sound confusing but like the top comment said, yes and no.

robolger

I used to say yes but it was cope and honestly imo saying yes does a disservice to what the game could have and SHOULD have been. They had no solid vision for what they wanted it to be and so we ended up with the bastard child of 1) an incredibly immersive and visually stunning hogwarts Castle, and 2) her deadbeat boyfriend: a half straight adventure/half rpg but specifically the worst halves where neither aspect truly delivers and it just makes me sad to think what we could have had.

YabakoSandrovich

I'd give it a 7/10. I really like what we got, but after seeing the scrapped features it makes me a little disappointed because the game could've been so much more. Almost all the complaints I had after my first playthrough would've been solved if they worked on the game a bit longer and added the scrapped features. It perplexes me that they haven't done any major update since the game's release either, let alone a DLC. Yet for some reason they'd rather just make a whole new game than update an already existing one.

Stoltlallare

Its good but it makes me wanting more. Particularly in terms of difficulty and better need for management of resources + improved story

Ashton807

Honestly I just wish it had multiplayer & PvP. Other than that it’s nearly perfect.

ninjad201

One of the best games I've ever played.

B23_95

Not being funny but are you new to gaming?

Misschikki777

The way I lol’ed at this comment

RideLegitimate13

I think one of the goal while developing the game was to address it to a very wide audience.

sunnysideup2323

I totally bought a ps4 specifically for this game. Kinda wish I would’ve splurged for the ps5 in hindsight.

ninjad201

No, I play since the PS2 era, and I actually got a PS2 the first year that it was released in Europe. Of course I had PS3, PS4 in the past and PS5 now. I also have NS Switch for gaming (and Nintendo consoles in the pas like game boy advance SP and 2ds). So I genuinely believe what I wrote.

LegoRedBrick

I agree, awesome game

Zayl

I was not, sadly. I think I dropped it after about 10 hours. The gameplay was not bad, but the story was very boring and repetitive. Even my wife who is a huge HP fan couldn't finish the game. Something about it just felt extremely heartless. It's crazy to me how many people praised this game over Ubisoft open world games which are usually much better than this. This also borrowed a lot from ubi games also, often in a worse execution. I was hopeful that the team would learn from this game and make the second much better, but I've heard "live service" rumors, so they are just pulling more bad from Ubi if that's true.

whatuseisausername

I enjoyed what I played of it, but I have little desire to actually finish the main campaign. It was way more fun than I was expecting as far as combat goes, but the actual storyline was pretty bland. It wanted to be both an open world rpg game where you create your own character, but then the actual storyline is pretty linear and the side quests weren't super memorable excluding Sebastian's questline. I think it needed to lean harder into the RPG gameplay elements so you'd feel more like a Hogwarts student. More potential friends you could make that you could spend time with, and more mini games when you go to your classes. I think it needed to be more difficult to run around Hogwarts at night, like with having to avoid prefects and teachers patrolling the halls. It being more difficult to run around Hogwarts after curfew was a pretty essential aspect of the books imo. Just more elements where you feel like you're part of the world instead of like simply existing in it where everyone largely ignores you.

GNS1991

I mean, kinda? I finished it a year ago. It was okey for what it was. Tried to replay it sometime ago, and... let's just say it's a one-and-done game.

BeachZombie88

Yes! But I want the exclusive Hogsmead shop mission released to all. And a season control option. Fulfill my demands and perfection would be attained!

Gaddlings2

I liked it but it felt unfinished And the castle is amazing but very empty

T-14Hyperdrive

For a game it was mid, for a Harry Potter game it was amazing. I really hope another, more complete game gets made that’s similar to this one

Lilrman1

The world was cool, but the story was kind of boring

DravenFurry

Kinda but overall no The voice acting was absolutely terrible. If all I had to do was read from a script with no passion, expression, energy, or God forbid...Acting, then I too could be a voice actor. If they make another one, that would be my 1 and only fix.

Dmitrisnow

Loved every minute of it !!!!! 💯

EddTally

Bought it, played it for 2 weeks, finished it, never played it again, satisfied.

Cloud_Matrix

Good game and a fantastic first attempt at dipping into the franchise. Open world was way too large and stuffed with way too many optional completionist objectives that didn't really add anything of value. I would have cut the map to half the size with more optional dungeons and activities that arent just copy and paste merlin trials/landing pads/bandit camps. Overall though, I was happy with the experience I got and if they take even a fraction of the feedback they got to make another game, it would be phenomenal.

Codywall44

IMO it's a 8/10 game. The world, gameplay, atmosphere are all amazing and carry the game heavily. When I first started playing it I couldn't believe how I was able to fully explore the castle and spent hours just walking around. However I do think there are some flaws that hold this game back for being a game of the year level title. Firstly the story isn't anything special. It's fine for what it is and honestly there are a few moments that really hit but as a whole I was left underwhelmed, especially in the second half. When the trailer first dropped I was hyped to be able to shape my legacy as they said and for the most part you don't really have much control on how the story plays out. But if I had to pinpoint one thing that I hope the next game improves upon it would he the characters. Besides a few major characters in the game the vast majority of them feel empty and half baked. Which I think stands out more that other games because this franchise is known for their beloved characters. Overall it's a really solid first entry to this take at Hogwarts but I think there is a lot of room for improvement. Like this world would honestly benefit from taking a lot of ideas from a series like Mass Effect. Although that is a lot to ask lol

Superguy9000

I played it, loved it, didn’t platinum it. Didn’t even do a second save file. Still have 70 hours in I got what I expected and loved every second, definitely one of my favourites releases of the year and wish it got DLC’s but it’s a tad controversial. But in people overhyping it and overhating it

Your_moms_basement2

satisfied, sure but when i tell you that i couldn’t put it down, as an avid harry potter reader/lover since birth i have never played a game where i felt too much like i was a part of it, 10/10 recommend

Nomedi2

Girlfriend reviews said it best. "It's aggresively mediocre", which sums it up for me. I bought it at full price, and have it 100% (Mostly out of sheer stubborness), but I wouldn't do so again. Story was decent, combat was fun for the most part, the puzzles were mostly easy, sometimes frustrating, rarely ever felt that rewarding. A solid 6/10

blac_sheep90

Being in Hogwarts was great and it definitely felt magical...if only the main character voice acting was less artifical and more engaging.

Fair-Pomegranate9876

As everybody said, Hogwarts is great and flying around is super fun. But it misses the replayability factor. There are no consequences on your actions, a too generic storyline and no companions relationships whatsoever. I tried to replay the game in another Hogwarts house and I got bored immediately. Once you explore the world once, there is no reason to play it again because everything is going to be exactly the same.

Dontask621311518

Its a good Game, i Just expected it to be better.

TheNastyPotato

I have over 100 hours in this game, played as all houses and tried all endings, and i don’t usually do this with many games, the only downside is that the game story is a bit short However i would very much like a game, that has the same game mechanics and graphics as hogwarts legacy, but as a remaster of the old Harry Potter games, having the story of all 7 years from Harry Potter, and have the game divided in those 7 years, and each year to have about 15-20 hours of gameplay and it would be doable as you have the story already if you do a 1:1 representation to the books and add things that are movie exclusive. And the way i was thinking is to actually make it kinda like gta5 where you can switch between Harry, Ron and Hermione in order to complete the quests (like hp3 was on ps2)

Micah_Lets_Play

Yes and No! Yes, I love this game and everything it has to offer. 🥰 No, I want even more!!! 😭

Toe_Willing

No but i still love it. Hogwarts is amazing. Graphics are great. Spells are great. World feels super authentic. They got so much right. They really tried with deep passion to create a great game. It’s awesome. It’s just missing that thing that pulls it all together. That turns great to the best. Hopefully their sophomore effort captures that.

redditsellout-420

Yes, but for the next game I'd want a chill game biased around the school, instead of a plot of domination, I want to attend classes, win points, and not save the world.

erikahope24

I wish you could make your character a death eater

SoftandTrashy

Honestly no? Like I love this game! It’s actually the first time of me dipping my toes into the Harry Potter universe (pls don’t yell at me my friends were overbearing about it when we were younger so I refused to watch it) I just finished the main story and wth was that ending?? (i’m talking about the house cup) So much to be desired it just fell really flat in my eyes. Where was my fav lil anti-hero?? It just made me sad that there was little to no connection between the characters once the story was over. Sebastian wouldn’t even say any voice lines to MC after his quest was finished. At least Ominis still acknowledged me 😭😭 I just hope with the sequel that they don’t throw out all of the characters. I hope it’s like their final year and more school based things!! (the yule ball that i keep hearing about. give it to me let them be CUTE could you imagine dancing with ominis or seb or poppy 😭🫶🏻) More connections between the characters, romance! (NOT SEX. im tired of people arguing about that. i just want cute awkward high school romance. 💔) I had also seen a rumour somewhere that they wanted to make it an MMO but I really hope they don’t because there’s usually micro transactions in those from what I’ve seen.

DeadHeadDaddio

I played it immediately after a long playthrough of skyrim. So going into the game i was initially fairly disappointed on several points due to having that timeless, option rich, rpg game fresh on my mind. The storyline felt limited in terms of role playing but the combat felt well polished. I did not like that nearly every npc was exactly that, an npc you could not have dialogue with. I did not like that despite every system in the game having nearly identical controls, the game felt it necessary to tutorial every system despite some of then being unlocked 10+ hours into the main story. Visually and graphically the game was absolutely stunning. The map is large and is fun to explore. There are many small features that act as micro quests which is lovely. I feel like DLC really could have been introduced and made this game fantastic, which is rather unfortunate that they will not be releasing any. It definitely is the best game in the HP universe though, and hopefully they will release another with more role playing elements. Edit: wanted to add that the Sebastian questline is absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed it far more than the main storyline and it is truly the crown gem of this game. I’ll never snitch on the homie.

aGhostSteak

Like most others, I loved the scenery and exploring Hogwarts. I felt like the expressions on character models trivialized events and were wooden. The motion capture they did for characters standing and running and the slight forward hunch doubled down on the absurdity of the poses. Also - who holds their hands like that all the time? Everyone looked like they were in the middle of reciting something for an operatic number. The puzzles were very rudimentary, and I hated that there was so much repetition in the small areas - like treasure spots - in the map. Some spells, especially repairo, felt like one trick ponies; they weren’t used enough in larger gameplay. It made me mad having to switch beast capturing and RoR conjuration spells; scenario - specific spell slots wouldn’t have been hard to map. Loved the beast capture system, and their habitat spaces but hated that the numbers you could hold were so limited compared to the species available. Largely there was enough for one “family” of each, not a whole program. There was no incentive to breed beasts outside the achievement. They didn’t even grow up, and there was no nurturing or continued care specific to the species. When the storyline advanced and the school year changed, the passage of time was not felt. Other than the weather there was no development of character relationships or knowledge to show that time had passed. Not even major holiday feasts to participate in, and if you never actually went back to your common room there was no consequence or commentary. You can’t talk to students outside of very limited quest opportunities and I felt very isolated from them in that way. I liked the need in a few quests to sneak around, but having such dire consequences for getting caught in Hogwarts after night on the one quest with Sebastian and in the faculty tower, then absolutely nothing after? Silly. Same with breaking into people’s homes while they are present and they don’t even react to your presence. Also, there never being an option to get caught and do consequences - your game just stops - made it feel one-note. A few quests changed reactions of NPCs, but usually only those directly involved in the quest, and even then it was very much a bland script. It felt like the choices I made generally didn’t matter and there was no nuance. A lot of the script options where you make a choice were like “be a normal person” or “major asshole reaction” like extortion. Where was the nuance or the personality in your character? I liked the idea of voice modulation in character creation but it was low quality and I could hear the distortion every time my lower or higher voiced character spoke. The clothes were great, but I wish there had been ability to customize color and fit - especially with hats. So many felt disconnected from the outfits. And so many robes covered all of the clothes you were wearing underneath. There also wasn’t any physical change in your dorm; your bed space starts out empty since you lose all your possessions first thing, but imo it should have reflected your collections and small choices you made; maybe you get your own gobstone set after helping Zenobia, for instance. No mini-games! I wanted to play gobstones, or chess, race more, do pickup quidditch or at least a seeker’s game chasing a snitch! Even wizard’s chess - they made all those chess sets and even brought it into some of the small puzzles; I felt teased. I wanted to talk to the ghosts and do knowledge-based side quests or go to lessons or just do more schoolwork, not summon a few things, watch a cutscene, and get a spell. The girl in the library is the only one who does any sort of trivia or informational questioning in the entire game, and even then it is optional and has no reward or consequence. I don’t think, other than at the end of term feast, there is any awarding or tracking of house points. Winning the House Cup being guaranteed based on non-school events feels just as much of a cop-out as it did in Sorcerer’s Stone. Also it never gives opportunity for you to flesh out your own backstory, and doesn’t address the blood purity thing at all, which felt weird especially when there were background conversations you could overhear where it was a focus topic. The most hilarious part of the game was acting as the Headmaster, but again what you said or how you reacted didn’t really make a difference in the end. I could go on, but yeah. Enjoyed it but there’s no incentive for me to play through again other than a few final achievements, and if I could do it again I would have waited a few more years until it was severely discounted - like $20. I did first playthrough on Hard and was disappointed at the challenge, so there’s nowhere to go; I was expecting a New Game + scenario like most other similar games. 6/10

hustler-snake

I bought as preorder Played for 10 mins and deleted it After completing so many other games and had nothing else to do I redownloaded the game to give it another chance And i do really enjoying my time so far .. 70% in quests .. doubting if will platinum it .. i usually platinum games that i like .. hopefully will do Wished a dlc to get more content and get those missing 12 talents

Top_Ladder6702

Honestly, it could’ve been so much worse. I know people would like more to it, but the world building and having an actual plot were great. It’s a really good start for a franchise if they want to continue it.

deutschdachs

Yeah it was pretty great. Shockingly good for a studio not known for AAA games

redshadow90

No. It's miles away from its true potential

wilomgfx

It was well worth my money and time. Bought it at launch.

Lord_Detleff1

I expected something different but I really can't complain a lot and am satisfyed. My second favorite game ever. 9.5/10

TheGingerSpellcaster

Nope

wildcardscoop

No , the rpg elements sucked . The fan service was even shallow . I don’t know how any reviewer gave it higher than a 7 or 8 at max

survivalguidetrecher

I am 25% of the way done with it and like it so far I am having lots of fun. My only problem is that there is this one quest where I need to buy a large pot to complete it and need 3,000 galloins to purchase it so that feels too Grindy

ancient-drake

you might know this but the look of the clothing items you have are saved automatically for you to change the appearence of your clothing no matter which item you're actually wearing, so just wear the best items, change the appearence to the one you like and sell all the other items, that's a quick way to get money

Few-Fog

It's definitely one of my favorite games but I feel like the main story could've had a bit more to it, I flew through it lol. A lot of the times I found myself more interested/enjoying the side quests.

thepenguinemperor84

Yes, I got plenty of hours of enjoyment out of it, it did have shortcomings but not enough to diminish my overall enjoyment.

Rob_Reason

Absolutely yes! I have over 80 + hours on one character. All of the criticisms I see for this game you could say about practically every game. My biggest criticism I would say is that it's time for DLC already, they've been lagging on that.

germy813

It hit the mark with the feel. Gameplay was kinda lacking

Feisty-Succotash1720

Mostly yes

sliverqueen1022

Absolutely. This is the first open world action game I've ever enjoyed! Love it from start to finish and hope to replay it.

Zealousideal-Leg1657

Yes I loved this game…but only thing I disliked is that it don’t have quidditch in it as I was very excited for it since announcement of the game also if there was more locations like ministry of magic and other locations from Harry Potter franchise then it would have been great But in short it was a great game, just hoping for these features to be added in the sequel of the game

jonisjalopy

Satisfied enough. It has its flaws, but I was entertained enough to justify my purchase and recommend it to a few friends.

Fuck_Reddit100Times

Other than the annoying cutscenes of conversations with NPCs, it's quite good.

TheItinerantSkeptic

I'm absolutely satisfied with it. It doesn't mean I don't have nits to pick, but overall it was a great game. Things I'd change: 1. XP scaling. I was irritated that the final quest was gated behind level 30. By the time I finished the final fight I was about halfway through level 29, which meant I had to go out into the world and do grindy open world stuff just so I could finish the damned game. 2. Less grindy open world stuff. I was just done with Merlin's trials, "kill X of Y", and other common open-world tropes by about the halfway point of the game. If we get a sequel (and I hope we do), I really hope they take some cues from Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 - those games are perfect examples of how to do side quests/open world content. CDProjekt Red just nails side content. This game is an absolute watermark, however. In culture there's a thing called "The Streisand Effect", where efforts to censor or limit access to something just creates more interest in the thing someone's trying to hide. Activists upset with Rowling's views tried to get this game canceled, and failed utterly, in no small part because this is actually a really good game, with beautiful graphics, good story, and fun gameplay. The same thing is now happening with Stellar Blade. Activists are trying to get the game to fail, but they're failing again, because the demo of SB is showing not only are the graphics gorgeous, but the gameplay is actually really fun. I'm now calling failure to get a game canceled "The Hogwarts Legacy Effect".

DirectConsequence12

It was a good game. The combat was fun and it was great exploring the world. I just wish the story was better, that we got to spend more time in Hogwarts and it wasn’t full to the brim that repetitive Ubisoft open world bullshit
