If you´re not over sensitive to trebles, Beyerdynamic DT 1990 pro. It´s really an amazing pair of headphones and it doesn´t necessarily need an amp. Well it may profit from one, but it can be easily driven from most devices without too much issues. So get those cans now and an amp later. It´s closer to a HD600, except it doesn´t have the sub-bass roll off and actually has pretty strong sub bass, even with the "analytic" pads. Makes EDM music usually a lot of fun. They come with two pairs of earpads with different tuning. One is more flat for studio mastering and the others have a increased bass response for general purpose.

kevinron29

I think the treble might too much for me based on the frequency graph and based on experience with buds 2 pro is shouty for me

Fragrant_Flatworm331

The 600s have fine bass with eq. But then I got the audeze lcdx and now I see how many details are missing in the hd600 though it's still amazing in it's own right.

MailSad696

I have owned the variations for 2 years and have really enjoyed the sound, but I don’t find them comfortable to wear for longer than maybe an hour. Tip rolled of course, but found them just too large to fit comfortably. I generally don’t have this problem so you may want to keep comfort in mind.

AwkwardChard8038

HiFiMan Edition XS sounds great but it is kinda heavy

abc133769

Xenns top is a nice allrounder. Will cover anything pretty well (definitely abit on the fun side) . Great for gaming and movies as well.

kevinron29

I am not sure, should I pick Xenns top or Sa6 MK2? But I read a person comparing 2 of these https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/Z1fb6ryTJU but still not sure what to pick. I listen to many type of music (in my album: mostly pop but also rock, rap, operatic pop and sometime l listen to classical) I also play video games.

abc133769

I'd go top, it's the funner of the 2 and better allroundwr. will cover rap and rock more nicely while still doing the other genres great. Sa6 more flat of the 2 so if that's your preference the. Sa6

Honestly, no need to spend so much money if you go into IEMs. Truthear Novas with foam tips measure almost perfectly up to harman(target, thought to be quite optimal) and they are not even 200 Dollars. You would maybe need to upgrade the cable though. Edit: On Headphones I would recommend Moondrop Paras Remark: Truthear Novas actually measure better than Variations just fyi.

kevinron29

Good idea but I already experience a lot of speaker. I owned quite expensive speaker too (Master & dynamic MA770). I also understand the harman target by experience Samsung buds 2 pro which too shouty compare to harman line. So I think starting IEMs/Headphones at 500$ would be perfect for me to be impressive in IEMs/headphone.

lostlare

It really depends on what you want. If you want IEMs which measure almost perfectly, go for the Novas, if not you might go for something different which is more “fun”. In the end you can actually EQ most IEMs the way you want except for the treble region, so try to get IEMs which measure well in that regard. Btw. I own Moondrop Variations and Truthear Novas and honestly the Novas have a slight edge. If you like the speaker experience you should maybe go for open backs but these start off way more expensive, if you want them to measure nearly as good as most IEMs

kevinron29

What do you think about Xenns top and Sa6 MK2? I looking forward to buy one of these.

lostlare

Disclaimer: Never listened to them The Xenns Up seem to measure quite good in the treble region while being slightly bass elevated which you might like. Seems like a good IEM to me. I dont know about the Sa6 Mk2 though, weird 1khz bump, being below target from 2 to 6khz to have a peak over the target at 8khz(although this could be because of the measurements). Personally I dont think these are all that good tbh, especially considering the price point.

kevinron29

I also see Sa6 MK2 frequency response quite weird compare to other IEMs but I see many people recommend Sa6 MK2. Xenns top follow the line better but I still see people say that treble and upper mid on Sa6 MK2 better than Xenns top.

lostlare

You see, always take audio reviews with a huge grain of salt. Mainly go off of the target curve and not what people, which often earn money if you buy those products, say. Its so utterly rare to find an actual “bad” review that I dont trust them a lot of the times. The Dunu SA6 offer almost no lower treble from what I can see, if thats what you want they might be for you. If you want to enjoy the music as it was recorded, then you should go for tuning which is close to the graph. Personally I dont want to have some sort of muffled treble.

kevinron29

Also based on this comparison https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/vPCemj9CY8 I prefer Sa6 MK2 more mostly because the soundstage and my type of music i listen to mostly pop but also rock, rap, operatic pop and sometimes classical music

lostlare

I cant understand, based on the graph, how someone would say the treble is equally good. The Dunu has almost no lower treble and then some extreme peak at 8khz, which wont be pleasent I think. IEMs offer very little to none soundstage, if thats what you really want you should probably go for planar headphones.

kevinron29

I think I going to go with IEMs because on buds 2 pro I get used with +10db bass and mostly headphones bass is +0 or sometimes - like sennheiser headphones. Soundstage might not important to me but I want to experience it.

lostlare

My recommendation is definitely Xenns Top

kevinron29

What about Moondrop Variations?

SnakeRoberts301

What music you into bro? This is what shapes your choice.

kevinron29

Mostly of time is pop and jazz also classical sometimes.

SnakeRoberts301

Ok, easy...start with senn hd6xx or 600. Get an amp and enjoy for awhile. Get into some cheap iems till you find the sound you like. Then buy something like dunu sa6 or woteva. It's likely you'll find your way after awhile and end up with Audeze or Hifiman...or Thieaudio monarch mk2 etc. But... you could easy stop at senn hd6xx!

kevinron29

I already owned a Samsung buds 2 pro and I don’t like the shouty sound of it. I don’t think I like shouty headphones.

SnakeRoberts301

Almost all iems are v shaped, so treble and bass boosted. If you start with senn hd6xx atleast you'll know what music is meant to sound like. Then explore more treble or bass with other headphones. There are basically no iems that sound neutral like hd6xx unfortunately.

Headphones: Focal elex HD600 HD6XX(exactly the same sonically as hd650 but different colour) Iems: DUSK, sa6, symphonium meteor, mega5est

kevinron29

Is the HD6XX lack sub bass for movies? I sometimes use headphones for movies and video games.

derailius

I have both the HD650 and the Edition XS. XS has better bass than the HD650. I honestly think that the Edition XS is just a better headphone all around (for me anyway). So much so that i put my HD650 back in its box and put it on the shelf.

kevinron29

Thank a lot. I might gonna get Edition XS.

geniuslogitech

Edition XS might be a bit too sharp sounding for some, look into Hifiman Ananda too, those two are best ones you can get for your budget but there are few that are not that far behind, most notably FiiO FT5 and Moondrop Para, Moondrops QC is also not great but it's $300, FiiO is like $450, you pay for build quality and QC there, other than those there are Audio-Technica ATH-R70x, Harmonic Dyne Zeus Elite and the new Sennheiser HD 490 Pro, all great headphones but missing a bit of detail you get with those planars, Beyerdynamic Amiron Home can also be had for that much on sale, msrp is higher but I've seen them for $380-450 before that all said, I prefer IEMs and I'd get myself XENNS Mangird Top, but it's preference at that point, with Hifiman lowering their prices so much you might be even getting more detail out of an over-ear headphone at same price than IEM which is wild at how more expensive over-ears are to produce

kevinron29

I actually just found out Edition XS quite sharp so I thinking to get Sa6 MK2. I just see Sa6 MK2 frequency response graph, it doesn’t sound too much upper mid or treble. So in the end, is the Sa6 MK2 is the best 500$ option for me? Or i pick XENNS Mangird Top.

DonnyTramp123

Depends on each person, for me no, for you if ur afraid that theres not enough, get focal elex

kevinron29

!thanks

Markdspot

Thieaudio Hype 4 or Ziigaat Doscinco

SleepyRhythms

Elex if you already have a decent amp/dac. I have the SA6 MK2 and they were so good I sold my Monarch MK2. Get a dongle for them because they don’t sound good off Apple dongle. Also use the included S&S tips because stock SA6 tips are meh.

kevinron29

I think SA6 MK2 is gonna be my first iems. But I quite sensitive to U shape (based on experience using buds 2 pro). So i wonder is the mild V shape of SA6 MK2 shouty?

SleepyRhythms

Nope. Timbre is perfect.

ChanceMeet3283

I would probably add the hisenior mega5est and the aune Ar5000 into your choices
