Come to the Democratic Party meeting. County Courthouse, top floor Commission Chambers, first Monday of each month at 6:30PM. Next meeting is April 1st.
There's also going to be several folks at the City Council meeting this coming Monday to protest Derrick Insurrectionist Evans and his anti-pride bullshit. Come to that, it will be fun. Maybe sign the petition https://www.change.org/p/she-doesn-t-even-go-here?recruiter=866980396&fbclid=IwAR0P1jXb\_ktE4g9EtE835KQL6Q4Ynu-mw2JhyY7IKD4DxY4K1G2lpZDfAAU
Dude was convicted and spent time in prison for participating on Jan 6th. I know that's inconvenient for people to grasp but he was found guilty in a Court of law. Trump was also found guilty of insurrection in the Colorado Court case. The Supreme Court never declared otherwise when they made their ruling, SCOTUS let stand that Trump is an insurrectionist. These aren't "my" facts, they're "the" facts.
Derrick was on camera trespassing on government property disrupting the constitutional transfer of power. You dorks get real picky and choosy about what laws apply to whom
An insurrection is literally "a violent uprising against an authority or government". I guess you could make the argument that the level of violence matters in the definition, but these folks erected a gallows and were carrying zip tie handcuffs. For at least some of the participants, it was an insurrection.
So there are a couple different groups actively working in the local area- DiY music is a good way to get introduced to everyone so issues of trust don't come up.
If you are looking to get immediately involved in outreach, harm reduction and mutual aide and are ok with having a church partnered to the group id recommend St Pete's community outreach.
I worked with them and a few other (overtly political) groups with shared members for a few years and they are excellent people- their intentions are good and they actively help people without any requirements.
A word on activism and organizing, here in Appalachia you really have to meet people where they are at- don't go in with the expectations that cleaning up a camp or handing out overdose preventing materials will lead to critical mass.
I've worked with the community for a long while and it is very difficult and occasionally heart breaking.
Again, I recommend St. Pete's community outreach (SPECO) if you wanna get your hands dirty immediately. They are good people.
Several cleanups will be going on April 20th from 9a to 12p. These will be publicized soon, mostly through Facebook. Im organizing one on 8th Ave from 16th to 29th St. Several neighborhood associations are hosting cleanups in their areas.
Yeah that's what it seems like unfortunately, but I don't have a degree nor enough money to move so I'm wanting to try to make it better around here lol
Kentucky People’s Union in Ashland wants to organize in Huntington, but we don’t have enough people based there to make the Appalachia People’s Union we all crave. We’re currently trying to improve housing rights for renters in Ashland and doing a bit of statewide work, if anyone is interested in coming to our member meeting shoot me a dm or check on Facebook!
I understand why you’d say garbage like that. I used to be a Troo Conservative ™️ who spouted ignorant junk because I was afraid of the brown, gay, and/or feminist boogeypeople.
Xenophobia and economic policies that mostly favor the wealthy is moving forward? You’re sad as fuck, boi. You’re the type that would look at the blue sky and say it’s green.
I understand why you’d say garbage like that. I used to be a Troo Conservative ™️ who spouted ignorant junk because I was afraid of the brown, gay, and/or feminist boogeypeople.
Ultimate goal: a group of hardcore leftists to do mutual aid, try to build international solidarity, while also bringing attention to the conflicts/genocides fueled by western imperialism. Also learning decolonial theory an trying to build a truly intersectional group. This is a general idea
Brotha imma be honest it’s West Virginia. I don’t think anyone is gonna give two shits about “imperialism” or “ecological theory” if I were you I’d start some beautification projects around the city if you want people to begin to listen
Your absolutely right, that's why that's the ultimate goal. I always figured it would take a long time to get to that point. An I hadn't thought of beautification projects, thank ya for the tip!
I'm a couple days late but I feel you! We are surrounded by mouth breathing, trump loving morons and it sometimes feels like you've landed in the twilight zone. Feel free to dm me or add me to the list
I got a mailbox card announcing the Cabell County Democratic Convention this Saturday, March 16th from 11am to 1pm at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation at 1425 4th Ave. Huntington.
Does that help?
Yeah the post office royally screwed us over on the postcards, but our next meeting of the Cabell County Democratic Party is April 1st (Monday) 6:30PM at the County Courthouse, top floor in the County Commission Chambers. I'm on the executive committee and we love having people show up. It's a very progressive group. We meet the first Monday of every month, usually same time and place.
We're mostly active on Facebook: [https://www.facebook.com/CabellCountyDems](https://www.facebook.com/CabellCountyDems)
And our website: [https://cabellcountydems.com/](https://cabellcountydems.com/)
You can find a recording of all the candidates who spoke at the County Convention on our Facebook and YouTube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuxYdlY3waU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuxYdlY3waU)
I mean, considering that our postcards could have arrived to someone in Washington state sooner than someone who lives next door to me... yeah I think its a possibility that the post office just sat on them for a few extra days.
Its extremely disappointing that people are receiving them days after the convention, but we try to look on the brightside. At least people are getting them, and were hearing about it on several social media platforms. We have a video of the county convention speakers on our Facebook and YouTube that folks can watch too if they missed it in person.
We respond quickly on Facebook if anyone ever had questions or comments, and we meet every month if someone wants to get involved. The postcards are helping to remind folks that we are here and we are organized,. We will know to mail them out weeks earlier next time we do this. This was probably the first mass mail we had done in years, and its been 8 years since the last county conventions were held.
Republicans by comparison aren't even having county conventions. They're blatantly violating state law by not having them, but who's going to convince Mac 'the election was stolen' Warner to do anything about it.
Any idea how to get in contact with the local candidates (specifically Wheeler) to ask policy questions? Her FB page doesn’t accept messages, her campaign office has been closed when I drive by, and her website doesn’t give any contact info
I've messaged her on her personal Facebook and she's been very responsive, but I will relay this back to her because she certainly needs to be responding to her campaign messages, as all candidates should.
Most candidates are on Facebook or have an email they've put out there. I've compiled a spreadsheet what the info I have that you can access here:
[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zUDVibek30QIQTCy9y-WTRGia0iYD5A9Xt5mPgcQ-VA/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zUDVibek30QIQTCy9y-WTRGia0iYD5A9Xt5mPgcQ-VA/edit?usp=sharing)
It's not complete but I'm trying!
Here's what Jennifer sent me back after I messaged her: "I have added messenger to my Facebook page. I will also check my website to be sure contact info is more prominently displayed. I don’t want to miss the opportunity to engage with constituents… Because I have to continue to work during the day (until elected) I’m not typically at my headquarters very much but I have volunteers in there intermittently- usually 10-2 on weekdays but some days they are able to be there (like today) so there isn’t a presence."
Amen. I love whipping this out when Republicans talk about their “conservative” nonsense. In reality, Republicans are worse off than their Democratic counterparts.
Of like the top 20 states that are dependent on federal funding, Republican states account for 15. Republican statehouses can sleep comfortably at night knowing, no matter how much they screw over their folks, good ol Uncle Sam will be there with the beaucoup bucks to save the day.
And unfortunately, West Virginia is number 2 on the list, contradicting this guy’s theory that dem dern libruls are destroying our precious state. In reality, modern American conservatism is straight cancer, kinda like the drinking water in half the state.
Source (I’d recommend giving this a good read because data is powerful): https://www.moneygeek.com/living/states-most-reliant-federal-government/
do they exist? yes. do they have any sort of social infrastructure? beats me.
If they do I ain't come across it lol
Come to the Democratic Party meeting. County Courthouse, top floor Commission Chambers, first Monday of each month at 6:30PM. Next meeting is April 1st. "Insurrection" LOL. That def was not an insurrection. You people are insane and dishonest. Total Karen energy.
What word do you use for people trying to interrupt the lawful, constitutional process of certifying an election?
By definition, that is an electoral coup.
An insurrection is literally "a violent uprising against an authority or government". I guess you could make the argument that the level of violence matters in the definition, but these folks erected a gallows and were carrying zip tie handcuffs. For at least some of the participants, it was an insurrection.
I'm not debating if it is an insurrection or not; I am answering your question with a more precise definition.
It was violent and was an attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power. What else could it be?
We're busy. Lol. I'm working two jobs and in grad school and raising teenagers.
Thank you for the info! I'll look into SPECO.
Hey its Kias. Funny to organically find you on reddit. Lol
What it do boo? Miss ya.
I know the local music scene has quite a few left leaning people, and that Mothman Ministries thing is a progressive mock religion supporting LGBTQ+
It's not a mock religion, it's the name of a non denominational group. Just saying.
Apologies
No reason, I was just making a clarification. Lots of local conservatives are in a tizzy because of a misconception
I think there are tons, honestly. Just not organized. I would hang out with other ppl though. DM me!
You guys should organize a neighborhood cleanup or something with quick tangible results if you wanna further your message
Several cleanups will be going on April 20th from 9a to 12p. These will be publicized soon, mostly through Facebook. Im organizing one on 8th Ave from 16th to 29th St. Several neighborhood associations are hosting cleanups in their areas.
Alot of the left have already do what we call mutual aid in the form of clean ups, along with food distribution to folks in need.
Let's all meet this Sunday at the stone circle, and talk about about our landlords.
Sunday should work for me lololol
The funniest part of this is when we all side ey each other and never talk because we think each other is a cop
I know you aren't a cop ;)
Yeah, lol I figure that's why Huntington is stagnant when it comes to leftist movements.
There's always some young libertine or two that are full of fire, and after they get thier degree, move on to become liberals in some other city
Yeah that's what it seems like unfortunately, but I don't have a degree nor enough money to move so I'm wanting to try to make it better around here lol
Dm me
I'd be down to come through.
Bring them gobbos you cretain
See you soon.
What time are we thinking
Depends, is this month the vegan potluck?
Not sure, where that be at?
Sorry, I am right-handed.
Kentucky People’s Union in Ashland wants to organize in Huntington, but we don’t have enough people based there to make the Appalachia People’s Union we all crave. Proud lefty here! Feels like I’m all alone sometimes.
Definitely feel that!
That's because you are destroying our country with your ideology.
Lick your overlord's boots much?
I understand why you’d say garbage like that. I used to be a Troo Conservative ™️ who spouted ignorant junk because I was afraid of the brown, gay, and/or feminist boogeypeople.
You act like you evolved, sorry, you backslid. You had the right idea.
There's dozens of us!
Hey there how are you
Hello comrade!
But how do I find them? I've been trying to get some things organized but so far no luck
whatcha got in mind or what have you tried
Ultimate goal: a group of hardcore leftists to do mutual aid, try to build international solidarity, while also bringing attention to the conflicts/genocides fueled by western imperialism. Also learning decolonial theory an trying to build a truly intersectional group. This is a general idea
You should try meeting a few people locally who share your views before trying to take this little club international.
I agree wholeheartedly, that's why it is the ultimate goal.
Brotha imma be honest it’s West Virginia. I don’t think anyone is gonna give two shits about “imperialism” or “ecological theory” if I were you I’d start some beautification projects around the city if you want people to begin to listen

The diy music scene there is almost entirely made of leftists. Find a house show and meet some people!
Is there a group like MAPS (Marshall Action for Peaceful Solutions) at Marshall anymore?
I'm a couple days late but I feel you! We are surrounded by mouth breathing, trump loving morons and it sometimes feels like you've landed in the twilight zone. Feel free to dm me or add me to the list

So today is the 19th
Just citing what's on the card I got in the mail.
You were informing OP of an event that had happened three days ago. Were you going to share your time machine?
No, absolutely not. This conversation never happened.
Yeah the post office royally screwed us over on the postcards, but our next meeting of the Cabell County Democratic Party is April 1st (Monday) 6:30PM at the County Courthouse, top floor in the County Commission Chambers. Do you think that's a dirty trick being done in any broader way, say state-wide or nationally?
I mean, considering that our postcards could have arrived to someone in Washington state sooner than someone who lives next door to me... yeah I think its a possibility that the post office just sat on them for a few extra days. Nice try, Pinkerton
Dammit foiled again!
If you like clubbing, you’ll find lefties at Stonewall.
What does this mean? Liberals? Left handed people? Something else? I'm so lost
Imagine letting politics define your life so much that you only look for bubbles to be a part of.
How is this any different than wanting to join an environmental group or any other organization that wants to affect positive social change?
Why are you a leftist? The left is ruining our country.
There are only two red states that contribute more to the federal budget than they draw. Without blue states red states are bankrupt.
Amen. I love whipping this out when Republicans talk about their “conservative” nonsense. In reality, Republicans are worse off than their Democratic counterparts. WV could use some more leftists seeing how our state has been Red awhile now and is an absolute shit hole. 🤡
And it’s getting worse every day, unfortunately.
Lefties yes, commies no
