I can’t speak to their customer service or lack thereof, but leases are often advertised by the manufacturer in a confusing way. Case in point being last months Ioniq 6 lease special. “$0 down, $232/mo for 24mos.” Sounds great right? Kind of. The fine print will say including destination (which is part of the MSRP anyways) EXCLUDING tax, title license AND it has to be an Ioniq 6 SE RWD Standard Range. Your post is missing some important specifics that would help narrow down what exactly was off about their numbers.  My own personal anecdote from this is I had a customer looking for this very deal. The specific version of the Ioniq that is eligible for it, exists in very small quantities. I literally showed him inventory within 500 miles of our dealership and there were ZERO of them. Our cheapest one was an SEL AWD, so the car itself was like 4-5k more than the base SE. So we show him numbers and he flips out saying the payment is X% higher than the advertised offer, and yes, it was, as that’s how math works.  As an aside, two of the biggest red flags for me here is your mention of having been around dealerships your entire life and having a best friend that owns one. Did you work at dealerships? If my best friend owned a dealership I’d be buying from him 100% of the time purely for the peace of mind.  I’m not saying this dealership is on the up and up, sounds like they’re scumbags for sure, but there is probably more to this story.

Absolutely correct ! If only customers and dealers were more transparent, the process would be much more efficient and less aggravating. I am born and raised in northern New Jersey, so I know the kind of Hyundai and Kia dealerships that exist up there and they really are dirtbags for the most part. Reddit posts Like this make my broker business look better and better. I agree with you that there’s more to this story than meets the eye.

100% I sell Hyundais in the Chicago area and most of our competition are total dirtbags. The usual games, dishonest pricing online, not showing you all the numbers you’re agreeing to, etc. I fully believe this guy had a bad experience there but also as a car salesperson my spidey senses are tingling about some of the stay he is saying or not specifying.

ask away! They wouldn't even give me a straight number answer on my trade-in. The manager goes "oh he didn't tell you the number?" after telling flip-lfopping back and forth about giving me 28k. Telling me he can ONLY give me 28k if I financed a 2023 SEL. That is when I started laughing and asked if he's seriously telling me his wholesaler gives a singular fuck about what car I get from this dealership. Of course he wouldn't answer me and tried cutting me off over and over and went on some different tangent. That is when I got up and left

Upstairs_Card4994

I would, but his dealership is a used car one with nice cars but not what Im in the market for. There is nothing more to this story than them trying to scheme every which possible way they can. I know the deals are misleading and I wasn't looking for that exact deal. in fact, they told me they'd do any deal on the site and then tried to make my payment $400 more after my trade in. How does that make any sense.

PioneerDingus

I’d have to see the whole breakdown of their numbers to see where they’re fucking with you. What version of the Ioniq were they giving you a price on?

Upstairs_Card4994

Id love to have gotten a whole breakdown. They were jerking themselves off while not giving me a concrete number for my trade in either forget the rest. Soon as the sales guy and manager contradicted themselves on what the wholesaler said and both told me different things entirely, i started laughing and walking out the door. I couldn't stand sitting there any more. These morons straight up tried pulling numbers from a hat Was looking at the 2024 SEL AWD.

PioneerDingus

Yeah hard to say exactly how they got to that payment then. Believe me I don’t like how companies advertise their leases it makes things a bigger pain for honest dealerships and sales people.

Upstairs_Card4994

there is truly really 0 way for them to get to that payment unless they were really actually trying to lowball me on the trade in and give me like 23k, pocket the 5k since oh nooo Hyundai has so many rebates/incentives we have to pocket everything we can! lmao. You would think seeing a dude that comes in a BRZ with gold sparco wheels on winter tires would know cars and maybeeee you shouldn't try your moronic games...but no.

jetlifeual

I’ve given up on dealing with lease deals from the Hyundai website because they NEVER come close to the reality. And, yes, I get it’s excluding a few fees and taxes and whatnot but that still shouldn’t mean the promotional payment being $329 (example) should skyrocket to $650+. And that’s on a top tier credit with the requested down, if applicable.

Upstairs_Card4994

EXACTLY. My credit is also 820 and the manager was telling me credit has NOTHING to do with my payment. Idiots

I think Hyundai (and its 3 brands) have got to find a way to get the dealership experience under control. They seem bad across the board, every state from comments. I know ours was in Las Vegas area. It was like going back in time.

kuriousKumar

Lol, I had such a bad experience with them in 2019 when I bought a Sonata from them. Definitely not a great customer experience and I'll never go back to that dealership.i am not surprised at all, seeing this post. If you are looking for suggestions for good hyundai dealerships in NJ, I have a few. Maxon Hyundai, Freehold Hyundai, Fred beans flemington. Sansone hyundai, towne hyundai and hudson hyundai were okay experiences.

Upstairs_Card4994

I had a not so great experience at Freehold with my friend during covid trying to get him an Elantra. They tried putting a 5k addendum of "paint protection" that they wouldn't budge off of. The solution I found was telling them to look at then 2020 models instead of 2021 and they found ONE on the lot, gave it to him at MSRP.

kuriousKumar

That sucks. Freehold hyundai is off my list then.

Service department is horrendous as well. Charge you for work that is not done. Happened to me twice. Won’t happen again. Got rid of my Hyundai which I really liked.
