Yeah I've been looking at stuff online and a brown base would be the way to go if I do non metallic. However I like the metallic too and I don't think many people do metallic fists
Tested this recently (can see results in a previous post!) And black is too dark, brown has too much green in it and red seems to be the winner for the base colour.
Oh shit, that's is metallic. Hadn't noticed.
But yeah, I'd recommend brown over black. Feeds into a more "natural" look for both yellow and gold. See, most blacks on the market are actually a very dark blue. Combining that with yellow, you get green instead, which doesn't exactly look great on Fists.
Left 100 %. The right one just looks like not finished at all. Too sloppy and not enough focus on the head.

Left. The right might be better if you used a red or brown base

Left looks clean
Cool grim dark look. Check Richard grey on YouTube for some more inspiration

Why not both. Left for your more junior marines and use the right for older more veteran marines show their age a bit

Left. And the black could work great for Destroyers, since their armour is said to be scorched black by their heavy weapons
I'd switch to a datk brown undercoat (as compared to black), then go all in on Left Scheme. That bright yellow highlight looks fantastic.
So you think a dark brown with the metallic yellow?

Left. Definitely got better contrast going there even from further out.
Left fo sure!
