I don’t know how he is as a coach and mentor, but what I have seen of him in public domain does not inspire confidence. He is openly combative and gets aggressive/confrontational for trivial reasons at times. You ideally need a good balance between calmness and aggression in a coach so they can mentor players of various natures appropriately and also know when to step back vs be more hands on.

Managing the ICT is a difficult job. It entails managing not just the talent but the senior members of the team. Look at the Gaekwad - Azhar team or Kirsten - Dhoni or Shastri - Kohli pairings. All were different eras but all had a common string great bonding with the team and the seniors. Gautam G has done wonders for KKR this season and one can be sure with him as the head coach the team will certainly not lack in passion and aggression but will they be able to play with the fire or get singed by it.
