iPods can't even max out current solutions.

your ipod is bottlenecking your card as is. the ipod was designed to function with a spinning disk drive, which is very slow compared to a modern day sd card. Because apple never intended for people to flash mod their ipods, they built processors and logic boards to operate at the speed of the hard drive. Even right now, if you have a flash modded ipod, your sd card isn’t working as fast as it could because the ipod can only process so much at one time

I see posts like this a lot. Even if by some miracle there was a way to bypass the slow IDE bus, what does faster storage add to an iPod? The fastest speed you need during use is the speed of real time analog audio, which isn’t much. Loading the iPod is also limited to the speed of conversion and USB 2.0

It's even worse than you're imagining.. because the zif cables are unshielded, they're actually causing even more of a bottleneck than the (already very slow) ATA chipset on the iPods. ;-)
