This is a $2,000 plate of jerk pork from M-10 in Vineyard Town. Yes, that is a ramekin. Yes, those are two very sad bammy. Yes, that was really all of it. The end is nigh.

BumboclawtRoy

Street Food Saturday's crawled so they could run. Clearly.

BUMBBBBBACLATTTTT

TheDollyHouseShow

4-5 likkle fatty fool fool piece a swine ā€œseasonedā€ in what tasted like some form of American corn-syrup based bottled BBQ sauce. Glad a nuh me pay fi it. Wasnā€™t my tab. If a me, one rass bag a claaat woulda cuss, but since me haffi maintain a level a decorum I held my tongue.

DesignerFox2987

Shoulda dash it on chef's face and call em a pussyclat

TheDollyHouseShow

The way things are these days, I generally avoid cussing *anyone*. Jamaica stay different a 2023.

Not even in 1990s Zimbabwean money (where they had a 50 trillion dollar bill) - literally not worth the paper it was printed on.

Jesus wept

TheDollyHouseShow

Shortest verse in The Bible, and yes He did indeed weep at this. His tears added to the seasoning of the thimbleful of pork.

[deleted]

Thatā€™s half a bammy šŸ˜

TheDollyHouseShow

Itā€™s half of a very underfried sad bammy that had abusive bammy parents and get bag juice alone fi di fus 10 year a life.

thejerkgrill

Mannn itā€™s crazy some places you can get a $250 box lunch other places that same meal is $1500. Stay out of the vacation areas and things are reasonable priced. The crazy part is the food and service takes hours in the restaurants, not to mention over priced and the servers are rude. In ochi they sell pina colada for 1,500 šŸ˜‚

TheDollyHouseShow

We šŸ‘šŸ¼need šŸ‘šŸ¼to šŸ‘šŸ¼do šŸ‘šŸ¼better šŸ‘šŸ¼

Alternative-Gift-399

And minister a finance a chat a bagga fuckry bout economy return to precovid bs.

TheDollyHouseShow

Covid is to blame for *everything*. Surely we all know that by now? ![gif](giphy|xT1ksK7W5KS3e)

shico12

LMAO I was saying before you clicked I hoped this didn't come to more then $500.

TheDollyHouseShow

If a 5 bills mebbe me woulda say ā€œArite gimme 4 portion thenā€ cah maybe 2k for 4x the amount wouldnā€™t be too bad, but honestly it tasted shit and wasnā€™t even close to ā€˜jerkā€™. It was like what someone whoā€™s never been to Jamaica or eaten Jamaican cuisine would think is ā€˜jerk porkā€™.

shootme_co

They definitely baked it and not jerk it šŸ’€

NEGRILXX

Lettuce expensive baaad

TheDollyHouseShow

You know, Iā€™ve never actually bought lettuce here. Iā€™m not crazy about it anyway (barely any nutritional value) but itā€™s one of those things I simply refuse to pay good money for. I bet it was the most expensive thing on the plate fi tru šŸ¤£

chino17

Jesus a look pon that and a seh at least him did have nuff more to work with to feed the multitude

iriefantasies

There is more to this than the economy. This is the restaurant and the brand they have built themselves. They can get away selling that at that price because of how they are talked about. but if you go to like Murphy's in Clarendon that is just as good a restaurant you can get jerk anything half the price and better tasting. Cost of living is more expensive in Kingston and very inflated.

TheDollyHouseShow

Agreed. Itā€™s brand name recognition. Same way Boston Jerk Centre is ā€œtheā€ place everyone gravitates towards, despite being overrated and overpriced for years now. Gloriaā€™s in Port Royal and Downtown same thing.

Youngsmartandbroke

Mi remember before covid mi used to buy fries and chicken a Gloria's fi 1200,nuff food so it worth it,tell me why mi call fi order and dem ago say 2500? Mi just say okay and hang up

TheDollyHouseShow

Me bun out Gloriaā€™s from way back. I used to take out one likkle motor boat wid a bredrin a mine from Port Royal to go catch snapper, and the fishermen there get ZERO support from Gloriaā€™s. All their fish is provided by Rainforest, who import it from Costa Rica and other countries - barely anything, if anything at all, from Rainforest is locally-caught. The fact that Gloriaā€™s is literally feet away from the local fishermen and they refuse to support the town is disgusting to me. But thatā€™s ā€œbusinessā€, right? It would cost them more to buy the fish thatā€™s right on their doorstep than to buy it from dutty Rainforest. So pay more then. The prices they charge youā€™d think they werenā€™t paying pennies for their fish, but they are. Cyah stand Gloriaā€™s - and itā€™s average AF, too. Rant over. Sorry, where were we? šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„šŸ«„

Sufficient-Pen-1088

A should a me

stewartm0205

That's more expensive than in the states. The scammers must be making nuff money because only they must be buying it. Regular people can't let their hard-earned money go so.

TheDollyHouseShow

$2,000 can buy me a whole big piece a swine that (should, but likely wouldnā€™t cah me craven an nah nuh self control) lasts a few meals. I think when people come here with the USD they tend to think ā€œfuck it, Iā€™m on vacationā€ or ā€œthis is a business expenseā€, so they donā€™t mind. Iā€™m just glad a nuh me pay di bill. I meanā€¦I simply *wouldnā€™t* have paid for this if a me receive di bill. Brite yf.

NotYourNat

Thatā€™s a ramekin for likeā€¦ dipping sauce šŸ˜ this plate mad disrespectful. So sorry.

TheDollyHouseShow

Nuh haffi apologise pan smaddi else behalf, but bless you same way zeen šŸ„¹šŸ™šŸ¼ It really is disrespectful on a different level šŸ¤£

camrichie

I noticed how stingy they are with the bammy last time I was there, give half or 3/4 for 500$.

LifeR3aper

Box food, road side

metasyde

That's a chap

doublejay1999

i dont know a jamaican who would be handed that plate and say nothing.

naturism4life

In Mobay 1 pound of jerk pork was $3200 but in Green Island it was.$1600 per pound. I forgot the price but at the jerk center near the hardware store in Negril very expensive too. The picture below is from green island https://preview.redd.it/7x7wxw2zw3ra1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f48ae3201941d9369163d3b44e8ac15eb1355e5

TheDollyHouseShow

Quarter pound of pork is 8 bills upwards most places in town, and you get maybe 5-6 little bites - itā€™s barely anything. So yeah, a full pound of pork would work out the same as the Mobay price youā€™ve mentioned. I wish that pic showed more of the pork itself - I feel like Iā€™m looking at an aforementioned pet peeve of mine; inedible garnishes. Is anyone really eating a huge piece of raw onion or pepper like that? I love pepper, and I probably consume even more pepper than that when I eat pork, but not in massive chunks. It just seems like a waste. šŸ˜•

naturism4life

Japhenia puts the peppers and onions on there more for presentation I think. I actually saute a little and eat both but do also at times eat raw. She also includes small containers of hot and mild jerk sauce on the side if you ask.I looked for a better pic but don't have one.

Youngsmartandbroke

Mek a did me,mi lay wait the chef and ask fi the rest a the bammy cause bammy come inna circle and last time mi check that nuh=360 ,this hace me heated and a nuh me ,mi feel like fi theif off 2 Tyre off a him car and sell it fo buy the bammy

TheDollyHouseShow

Creative way to complain - me rate it

meme_tenretni

M 10 should be -10

TheDollyHouseShow

Itā€™s a shame - it used to be really good enuh. Only a couple weeks ago I recommended it to someone who wanted a chill spot in town. Unfortunately my opinion was based on M-10 about a decade ago. Itā€™s massively gone downhill.

bunoutbadmind

I was just thinking that I hadn't been to M-10 in a few years, and it might be good to go back and check it out. Thanks for saving me $2k and a trip to Vinyard Town.

TheDollyHouseShow

Yeah, donā€™t bother. Turd.

pocketfullofcrap

See this is why I buy from the jerkpan guys because...wah dis

TheDollyHouseShow

Itā€™s a ramekin full of crap.

More-Animator-8677

I have slaw in the fridge.

TheDollyHouseShow

Betta than this Iā€™m sure.

ddbez

And the ramekin messy.. woi mi belly.. I knew you were hungry after that..

TheDollyHouseShow

Kmftā€¦I went straight to a pan man further up Vineyard Town an buy two piece. Belly battam was weeping after this foolishness.

ddbez

Omg bus muss.. that is ridiculous..pan chicken for the win.

ralts13

Just go to a cheaper/better restairant. its not that hard.

RockyB1506

That's about Ā£11 in pounds. That's a liberty, no rice or plantain, and the pork looks sad madness.

TheDollyHouseShow

Yup. I often make the depressing mistake of converting to GBP in my head when buying anything here. Ā£11 for a plate that size is upper-class London fancy restaurant prices - at least the food, even if it likkle bit, would taste good.

reggae_muffin

I donā€™t know what the fuck it is with restaurants on island where they feel like they have to put every fucking thing in a ramekin. Them must believe it look fancy? I donā€™t even know what to say.

TheDollyHouseShow

Itā€™s the belief that itā€™s what the so-called ā€œfirst worldā€ does because the chefs saw a book or TV show from 1988 and ran with it. Itā€™s the same mentality that gives us those *wonderful* plate decorations like a full scotch bonnet pepper, half an onion, or a whole sprig of thyme on a plate - shit that nobody will possibly eat. Itā€™s like being stuck in a time warp.

reggae_muffin

Fingers crossed we soon reach the 90s, culinarily speaking

TheDollyHouseShow

We nuh haffi reach nowhere suh. Just need to celebrate the cuisine in its natural way without (badly) trying to imitate some faux European microwave cookbook nonsense.

reggae_muffin

I mean, I'm being facetious. We're still way too closed minded as a country as far as food goes. The other day I was browsing the Instagram profile of a new Italian restaurant in Kingston and there were comments on there saying "there's no local food" and that the place doesn't "cater to locals". No fucking kidding, you dunce - it's an Italian restaurant serving Italian food and you gonna come on their page and complain seh you can't get oxtail or ackee and saltfish? Bredda.

TheDollyHouseShow

Very closed-minded, unfortunately. But itā€™s a lack of exposure thatā€™s to blame. For Europeans itā€™s so easy to access things like French and Italian cuisine because itā€™s a $150 flight away, not to mention the countless different restaurants likely in their home countries. A large number of Jamaicans have barely even left their communities, never mind parishes, so other countries are an alien concept. Some Jamaicans, a minority, will have access to travel and likely go to the U.S. and eat spaghetti & meatballs at fucking Olive Garden and think theyā€™ve eaten ā€œItalian foodā€. An even smaller minority may have been lucky enough to travel further afield and experience more. Iā€™ll never forget being in Denham Town a few months ago and speaking to a woman about the cost of yam and other provisions in places like Liguanea, and she said ā€œwah dat? Which place name suh?ā€. Itā€™s literally a 10-15 minute drive from downtown, yet she had absolutely no idea - hadnā€™t even heard of it. Thatā€™s a *frightening* lack of exposure. Whilst thereā€™s a good reason why some Jamaicans have a ā€œclosed-mindedā€ approach to food, what does irk me a little is the pushback to even *try* something new - thatā€™s strange to me. But yeah, thereā€™s definitely a lot of privilege involved in being open-minded about food, and Iā€™m included in that bracket of privilege. Not something I take for granted.

Tevvi94

Naw bredda, Iā€™d fight

TheDollyHouseShow

My fighting days are over. That being said, I did *feel* like I wanted to light smaddi up. And by ā€œlight them upā€ I mean actually set fire to the chefā€¦

thatguymicky

Dem did think say you a 5 years old?

TheDollyHouseShow
