Could be for gas too. My heel stays in the same spot when I'm on the gas or the brakes. Only the tip of my foot rotates. I have a wear mark in my floor mat in a similar spot as this
Same here. And I wear boots every day. I just plant my heel, and it rarely ever leaves that spot aside from rolling it back and forth. I'm also am slightly taller, but like to sit closer enough to the wheel where I can steer with my elbows on the arm rests. So there isn't really room for my legs to move back and forth if I tried keeping my foot straight and moving from pedal to pedal.
Wait, doesn't everybody do this?
Guess I never thought there could be another way, but I suppose people with smaller feet must actually move their feet.
Huh...
That's literally what they teach in behind the wheel training. Your foot should be behind the brake at all times. It's funny my dad learned in the 60s with a clutch and he uses his left foot for the brake.
https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingbad/s/tHw7lC6cNW
I don’t think that was normal, even in the 60’s. My old man never did it, and made sure I never did.
I don’t even have to click that link to know what it is, and I love it lmao.
i wasnt alive in the 60s but no i dont think that was ever normal either lol, but as long as you get a to b safely i dont care what foot you use for what.
i daily drive a stick, maybe ill start driving criss cross applesauce with my right foot on the clutch and left on the gas
Using left foot for brake is the opposite of what you learn with a clutch. Literally the exact opposite. Because sometimes you need to use both clutch and brake at the same time. Frequently, actually.
Same. Do people pick their foot up every time they switch from brake to gas? Or vice versa?
Shit, I usually have flip flops on and take the right one off and use my toe on the brake. I’m a little longer/taller than most though, I guess.
The mat in my jeep had a wear mark like this when I got it. It has since developed into a wear hole that started to wear into the carpet beneath so I had to put a small chunk of rubber mat underneath that area.
I only have floor mats in there anyway because the car came with them. I don't actually care about keeping the floor of my car clean. If the mat is always dirty and looks like shit, what's the point of even having it anyway? So the floor can look good underneath where no one can see it?
My 2023 6-speed Mustang floor mat has this divot in it. I wish I could say I was left foot clutching but no, I just have an above average shoe size letting me rotate my heel between pedals.
My girlfriend is 5’1” her heels dont touch the ground at all the whole time she drives. Fully hovers since if she wants her feet on the floor they have to be closer to her seat
This literally sounds painful. How does she drive more than 20 minutes. My leg muscles would be on fire hovering them for any length of time. Not to mention my knees.
Same. Sitting/standing/laying down my right foot tilts out like that. I wonder if it’s just like that, or if it’s 40 years of driving with my foot like that.
LMAOOOO, I have 300,000km on my cherokee with nothing but tires, battery, fluid changes, and other basic expected maintenance. It's actually been kinda surprising me. Those WJ inline 6 engines have proven to be very durable. It's probably known as the last good car they ever made before it got shitty QUICK.
I've done no part replacements at all everything as it came from the factory and has had no other owners other than me and my dad. We've changed the timing belt once, and that's it pretty impressive if you ask me.
In panic moment, you may push both pedal at once. In addition if you are hard braking, your body mass will mostly lean on those pedals. Which means you will push both pedals at once and probably fail to push brake properly.
Unless you are a professional who had educated for years to use a car with 2 feet on tracks, it's better to use it in normal way.
I have a friend from high school that when she had guys over at her house and one of them went in the bathroom, her mom would knock on the door and say "FYI - we sit down to pee in this house!" Embarrassed the shit out of her daughter every time.
Yeah it just screams "I have a bathroom at home that is absolutely foul". Same energy as the guys that don't wipe their own ass because "touching a man's ass is gay bro"
At least once a month on the relationship subs someone posts "how do I tell my spouse they need to wipe their ass because they are leaving skidmarks everywhere"
So you've never cleaned up a bathroom that people stand up to pee in? The extra velocity and mass the pee droplets have by virtue of having more time to accelerate and converge into larger droplets cause the equal/opposite reaction with the water to make so much more mess. Unless the toilet is already foul, standing to pee is just asking for piss to be all over the place.
The odd time you get a witch's kiss is worth not having a bathroom covered in piss. Swap out your toilets for elongated bowls and that reduces the chances of that happening though.
I two footed brake most of the time in my dual clutch cars. Helps keep my left foot sensitive for left foot braking on track/at autocross (in those specific cars). I also LFB on the sim rig.
Stop and go traffic with LFB is annoying so I swap back to normal for that, but reactions can be so much faster with left foot braking. Just gotta not be stupid and don't leave your foot on the pedal (same as you wouldn't leave your foot on the clutch).
I recently broke my left ankle and driving back roads I really notice the gap in pedal changeover in performance driving situations. Trail braking smoothly into an apex followed by gentle throttle application is just way harder with right foot braking for me. I got used to it but after I regain left foot function I'm going back to left foot braking.
I have a good friend who drives two-footed who gave me a somewhat acceptable answer as to why.
He grew up on a farm and learned to drive on farm tractors. Right side of the tractor was gas. Left side of the tractor was brake. The pedals were separated by the body of the tractor so it is impossible to drive with one foot. It’s so ingrained in his mind now that he can’t change his ways.
The first thing I teached my wife was to never use left foot on automatic cars. NEVER. Also this mark is from using one foot without lifting and just rolling the tip left right to brake or gas.
I taught myself to drive two footed; started out one. It just makes more sense. Two feet, two pedals. However, my left foot is on the deadpedal, not hovering over the brake. While everyone else is moving their foot from the brake to the gas when the light goes green, I release the brake and hit the gas at the same time. I would bet that when I get old I'm not going to confuse the two pedals and drive into a building either.
Isn't the wear mark usually under the accelerator? People usually plant their heel while driving so it seems pretty weird to have a wear spot below the brake.
I have big feet, my spot is in front of the brake pedal. I just rotate my foot to the right to hit the gas pedal with my toe area. I just pivot to which pedal I need. Only time I move my heel is if I’m flooring it or hard on the brakes.
I don't know about anyone else, but for some reason there's a spot like that on my floor mats... because of my left foot just hanging around there rubbing a spot because it otherwise has nothing to do?
\>shrugs<
For anyone with pronated feet, having the heel planted under the brake during both braking and acceleration is just the most sensical and comfortable. Even when I heel/toe shift, my ankle never moves to the accelerator.
Prolly just where they keep their foot.
That’s about where I keep mine, little more centered between them tho. I just pivot the top of my foot for gas/brakes
My floor mats have only one point of wear on them too. There's no point in in lifting your foot over to each pedal. Mine is probably closer to the brake side too since it's easier to use more force on it
In the early 60's Uncle Harold had a GM product that originally had a raised "POWER BRAKE" on the pedal. He used that pedal so much the words had worn down to "POWER BRA". We little kids always got a laugh out of it.
Looking at my 07 Mariner now. The mat is worn through in the same spot. That seems to be where my heel falls when the right side of my shin rests on the center console. Doesn't move for gas or brake.
I bought a beater last year and there’s a heel hole in the carpet and padding from my buddy who owned it before me. Works out good because we’re about the same size. My heel sits right in the hole when I’m driving too and I can easily reach both pedals from there.
I drive a lot with the cruise on and my foot hovering over the brake in case someone does something stupid. So I’ll probably wind up with that wear mark on the floor at some point myself.
Is it not still taught to anchor one's heel near the brake and twist over to the gas? Allows one to more quickly apply brake if needed compared to moving the whole leg.
This seems like exactly the kind of fuckers who like driving too slow in the left lane, trying to "drive safely" when in reality they're actually creating both a traffic and safety hazard.
This is the car you see with the brake lights constantly on as they are *ACCELERATING* down the highway.
Also, “why do my brakes wear out every 5,000mi???”
Could be for gas too. My heel stays in the same spot when I'm on the gas or the brakes. Only the tip of my foot rotates. I have a wear mark in my floor mat in a similar spot as this
You know what they say bout big feet... You'll get a wear mark by your brake
I thought it was big socks?
Na I have size 12 feet and my cock is only about 4 inches! Oh you said SOCKS! Nevermind!
That’s a small rooster, might wanna get that checked out sir!
Yeah we call him runt. They tell me it's totally normal and "average". Helps me sleep at night at least.
Not to brag or nothin, but mine can cover A all the way to Z on the keyboard.
All right Captain Big Dick save some of the ladies for the rest of us!
I can only fill the gap between a and z...
They say…”Damn. You got some big feet.”
Size 14 work boot. All of my cars have had that flattened worn section of carpet
Same here. And I wear boots every day. I just plant my heel, and it rarely ever leaves that spot aside from rolling it back and forth. I'm also am slightly taller, but like to sit closer enough to the wheel where I can steer with my elbows on the arm rests. Go get em ~~Flynn~~ Walter Jr.
Using left foot for brake is the opposite of what you learn with a clutch. Literally the exact opposite. Because sometimes you need to use both clutch and brake at the same time. Frequently, actually.
If you’re rev matching for smooth downshifts without destroying your clutch you have to use clutch, brake, AND the gas pedal at the same time.
Yeah, and that's done by using the brake and gas with one foot. In no universe are you using the clutch and brake with the same foot.
I think pretzul is just describing heel and toe shifting
Heel-toe shifting. My Focus ST was absolutely terrible for this because the accelerator pedal was like 4 inches lower than the brake pedal.
Same. Big feet people unite! This mark just shows me where my heel needs to be and we're off.
My mom was (maybe still is?) the same way. I wonder if wearing heals for work has an impact in her pivoting from one spot vs moving the whole foot.
Do you also have an OBD port attached to your gas pedal?
My car doesn't have OBD lmao
Same. Do people pick their foot up every time they switch from brake to gas? Or vice versa? Shit, I usually have flip flops on and take the right one off and use my toe on the brake. I’m a little longer/taller than most though, I guess.
Usually I just take my slides off and drive barefoot
I have to since my gas pedal is way further forward
I do the same, I learned in a manual and I figure that influenced it
The mat in my jeep had a wear mark like this when I got it. It has since developed into a wear hole that started to wear into the carpet beneath so I had to put a small chunk of rubber mat underneath that area.
I do too. I keep thinking “oh I should get a new floor mat” but it’s just gonna happen again. I might change it if it wears all the way through…
I only have floor mats in there anyway because the car came with them. I don't actually care about keeping the floor of my car clean. If the mat is always dirty and looks like shit, what's the point of even having it anyway? So the floor can look good underneath where no one can see it?
I have a wear mark in the carpet from wearing through the floor mat.
Same, size 15 feet so that's literally the only way for me.
Looks like normal heel wear to me. Looks like the perfect distance from the heel to the toe tip for the gas.
May also be that this person used cruise control frequently
My 2023 6-speed Mustang floor mat has this divot in it. I wish I could say I was left foot clutching but no, I just have an above average shoe size letting me rotate my heel between pedals.
I assumed everyone did this. I wear us 15 men’s
I’m a US women’s 10 and I think it’s prime territory.
I never even considered it might be just cause I have big feet.
I do not know. I didn’t find out for a good couple years and when i caught on it threw me for a loop. She drives fine. Multiple hours no problem
I pick my foot up to brake.
size 12 and i do this all the time
This is exactly what my floormat looks like from my driving with my knee while eating skills
Same. Sitting/standing/laying down my right foot tilts out like that. I wonder if it’s just like that, or if it’s 40 years of driving with my foot like that.
As Patrick said, "BIG. TOE."
As Patrick said, "BIG. TOE."
Look at that. An OBD port you can see. No need for a flash light and climbing under the dash.
Yeah, my 03 jeep has it there as well. It can get in the way sometimes, but it's worth it being there.
Because it’s hooked up all the time. It’s a jeep. 😂
LMAOOOO, I have 300,000km on my cherokee with nothing but tires, battery, fluid changes, and other basic expected maintenance. It's actually been kinda surprising me. Maybe. But because crank sensor “is a normal failure” does it make expected maintenance.
I've done no part replacements at all everything as it came from the factory and has had no other owners other than me and my dad. We've changed the timing belt once, and that's it pretty impressive if you ask me.
*and spark plugs, but it wasn't truly necessary when we changed them*
Timing belt on a Cherokee????STFU.
Sorry, I meant chain if that matters 🙀.
Doesn’t matter how many owners it’s had. That’s old school thinking by a child.
It's above the gas pedal so you can plug in the chip that increases your MPG.
My gen 1 Mazda3 has it just inside the coin slot on the drivers left, it's very convenient.
Sounds like you like to bitch about shit that doesn’t matter. If you can’t find the port. You’re a big dork.
My wife learned to drive 2 footed as well The other foot just rests there waiting to hit the brake SMH
She's basically an F1 driver
2 footed driving is cursed as fuck in regular traffic (if you're driving an automatic transmission)
I call it granny driving because that’s how my grandma drove. I accidentally told a dude who drove 2 footed this and we became enemies on that day.
I LOL'd for real on that comment
Its not safe to drive with 2 feet. Its more like dangerous than being granny drove.
Hey everybody, look at this guy with no vacuum leaks!
What's dangerous about it?
In panic moment, you may push both pedal at once. In addition if you are hard braking, your body mass will mostly lean on those pedals. Which means you will push both pedals at once and probably fail to push brake properly. Unless you are a professional who had educated for years to use a car with 2 feet on tracks, it's better to use it in normal way.
You can also accidentally start pressing your brake pedal if your foot gets tired and wear out ur breaks early
Dude who drive two footed always sit to pee.
Sitting to pee is the best choice, splashback being eliminated is an obvious win.

Exactly. I need to keep my bathroom clean. I don't need piss all over. I can also take a break this way.
Best practiced in the morning when your stream can come out with the same variety as the weapons from Contra.
I do this when I have to pee in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning. This makes my wife happy.
Sit to pee at home, stand to pee in public.
Why would splash back be " eliminated"? It's merely 100% targeted to your ass and sack and tiny little pecker

Oh here we go the "supposed to be" crew has arrived

I only take medical advice from cryptozoologists

Ever notice how the toilet is shaped like a chair? Weird right?

It works great on a gas fork truck. Sometimes you need to hit the clutch and give it throttle at the same time to speed up the hydraulics.
My grandfather drove that way and wondered why his brakes only lasted about half as long as everyone else's.
A fan of Scalextric i see

I assume your trying to say something about the wear mark in the floor mat. But ok so what? That’s normal on any car
Agreed. My car looks like this
Same. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm fidgety and constantly roll my foot back and forth anytime I'm driving with cruise control on
Really? When my cruise is on I cross my feet and relax
Isn't the wear mark usually under the accelerator? People usually plant their heel while driving so it seems pretty weird to have a wear spot below the brake.
You are supposed to plant your heel below the brake pedal. Move the tip of your foot to hit the gas but don't move your heel.

OP would shit themselves if they say the absolute crater under my gas pedal
This is a pretty typical wear mark, not seeing any unusual patterns on the pedals either
I don't know about anyone else, but for some reason there's a spot like that on my floor mats... because of my left foot just hanging around there rubbing a spot because it otherwise has nothing to do? \>shrugs<

Nah. Thats where my cock rested. But in all seriousness I just pivot my foot. My heel stays in the same place for both pedals
?
i assume the black mark on the carpet that indicates their shoe is there alot
If Their foot was always on the brake there wouldn’t be a wear mark on the carpet.
Prolly just where they keep their foot. That’s about where I keep mine, little more centered between them tho. I just pivot the top of my foot for gas/brakes
that's just regular wear, delete this.
Size13 boot... I have worn though three sets of floor mats. They always wear a spot like this. I just pivot my foot. And wear my safety boots home.
My floor mats have only one point of wear on them too. There's no point in in lifting your foot over to each pedal. Mine is probably closer to the brake side too since it's easier to use more force on it
Looks like the pedal pad in my Buick, those just wear fast.
Tell me you haven’t driven a lot without telling me haven’t driven a lot.
In the early 60's Uncle Harold had a GM product that originally had a raised "POWER BRAKE" on the pedal. He used that pedal so much the words had worn down to "POWER BRA". We little kids always got a laugh out of it.
It's a Buick, they certainly weren't a fan of the accelerator.
If you say so, my 3800 scooted pretty good.
Same. Source: Owner of a Park Avenue Ultra.
Ohhh, the supercharged version, that was a solid ride
Still is.
It's more about the typical Buick driver than the car itself.
Nah dude just has size 23 feet
Looking at my 07 Mariner now. The mat is worn through in the same spot. That seems to be where my heel falls when the right side of my shin rests on the center console. Doesn't move for gas or brake.
Gotta vacuum your carpets occasionally
we used to call those golf club brakes. golfers drive Lincoln, cadillac, or buicks, and is in his or her 70s. so golf club brake.
I bought a beater last year and there’s a heel hole in the carpet and padding from my buddy who owned it before me. Works out good because we’re about the same size. My heel sits right in the hole when I’m driving too and I can easily reach both pedals from there.
I had a taurus I did that to
Bet it was a Florida Buick. Ride those brakes like you used to ride a Harley
2 foot driver?
I drive a lot with the cruise on and my foot hovering over the brake in case someone does something stupid. So I’ll probably wind up with that wear mark on the floor at some point myself.
They could just be a heal and toe driver with really big feet
Is it not still taught to anchor one's heel near the brake and twist over to the gas? Allows one to more quickly apply brake if needed compared to moving the whole leg.
I have a worn spot exactly like that in my truck. I rest my foot at an angle when it's on the gas
I do drive an automatic with two feet. Left for brake right for gas. But in a stick shift car it’s right is gas and brake and left is clutch
Like a gamers keyboard where the down arrow has the paint worn off.
Ah just wait till you see what a Fiesta looks like lol
Wore out the mat in my LeSabre exactly the same way… heel of shoe. That pedal pad is barely worn for the age
And that car looks old af
2008 allure/lacrosse cxl 120k km
But it’s still in the road.
I suppose you could call it the Master of the Road, or perhaps… Roadmaster.
>Buick They rode the brakes at all times.
Also: “Why do I get 10 mpg?!”
Trailbraking. Some people put their left foot on the brake on an auto car. It’s faster reactions, but kills your pads and mileage. Its a thing
