They actually tried giving him a contract but he dropped it

Prudent_Comb_4014

It was right in his hands too

alphasierrraaa

Think it bounced off his hands and got intercepted

cockknocker1

Now i have it

xlmnop123

Let us know when your jersey goes on sale.

kelny

And somehow he even got injured in the process.

PM_ME_BOOBY_PICS

Getting hurt during practice while being the worst receiver on the roster is a tough look. Hopefully his agent can work something out for him with a team like the Commanders.

alphasierrraaa

And then he goes on IG live and says stuff about big red

StPaddy81

Can’t hold a pen with bricks for hands

Brutes-Willis

He tried to sign on the line but his pen was a full foot past it.

cardinals8989

Nah, he deflected it to the defense who ran it back for a touchdown.

mcpizzapants

I wish I could give you more than one upvote

Hurrdurrthosechefs

And he gave it to a first round corner on the opposing team in the process.

bonedaddy1974

Goddam it that's funny

whetherby

brutal

ToulouseDM

Hardman fumbled the pen they were to use

Fyzzle

I shocked. Ok not that shocked.

Tellittoemagain

Does anyone else feel like he has been in the league a lot longer than he really has?

rolyinpeace

Yes I think it’s because we traded for him. In my head he played out almost all of his rookie contract in NY. It’s always weird when someone comes to you after like 1 year

Tellittoemagain

That's got to be it. I'm used to these first round guys getting traded after their third year.

TownComprehensive809

Assuming he's on the team next season, he could be more valuable and bounce back in a role player role where he doesn't have the pressure to be the next WR1 or even WR2 of the Super Bowl champs. I think the pressure got into his head last year especially with the drops early on and it snowballed from there rapidly. He can be extremely valuable as a returner w the new kickoff rules & do the gadget plays like sweeps & handoffs that Hardman would do. That's the only way he stays on the team

hankmoody_irl

That’s kind of my thought. Gives them the opportunity to settle him into that gadget role and make him work his ass off for a bag in 25 regardless of where it comes from. This is a huge chance for him to make teams want him as a returner.

flojo2012

He also didn’t get much preseason and training camp. He was injured (which is another problem) but he came in mega rusty

braywarshawsky

The dude can't stay on the field long enough to be valuable. He gets like 6 plays in, then goes down for like 5 games with an injury. Sure, those six plays... yeah, they can be exciting. But also 50% of those plays he does something dumb.

angus_the_red

There's plenty of room for pressure in there.  I think he's just an idiot.

NutCracker3000and1

Disagree. Pressure is one thing but a bad attitude is something completely different. They wouldn't have sat him in the playoffs if it was pressure.

pm_me_ur_demotape

Does next season mean this fall or is that this season and next season is the following fall?

PhogMachine

I think this season (this fall) is his fourth. So after the SB, he'll be off the books.

dogfish83

Going down to Patrick's private practices in the offseason would go a long way...

Responsible-Big2044

Isn't Hardman still unsigned?

joeyGOATgruff

Yes. But we all know who and what Mecole is. Loveable guy but he's hit his ceiling.

chiefoogabooga

I could see Mecole having a bigger role again with a full off-season to prepare, assuming he's on the roster. His best work has always been on the jet sweeps and gimmick stuff. With him being with the Jets during training camp and Nagy being the new OC I just think a lot of that stuff never made it into the playbook. I've never been the biggest Mecole cheerleader, but he can be a difference maker if he's put in the right positions.

Statboy1

How many full offseasons has Hardman had with us though? We knew who he was when we cut him. He only got resigned because of the failure of MVS, Toney, Skyy during the season.

chiefoogabooga

Slow down a minute. Just because Hardman has been on the roster and knows the plays doesn't mean that those plays were part of the 2023 playbook. The team starts OTAs with a playbook already set, and with Hardman on another team's roster we have no idea whether those were part of last year's plans. In order for plays to be successful every person on the field has to be proficient at their job. Add in Nagy as the new OC, and it certainly wasn't the same playbook as 2022. As I said in a previous comment, I'm not some huge Mecole fan. I can think of a ton of receivers I'd rather have. But if we're filling out the roster with low-tier guys that can be productive in one form or another, he's gotta be on the short list just because he has added value in previous years.

joeyGOATgruff

It just feels redundant to have him, toney, and Xavier Worthy that all do sorta the same thing. Fast, "twitchy" guys.

chiefoogabooga

Maybe, but they didn't pick up Toney's option so he's not currently a Chief. If they're deciding between bringing one or the other back I think I'd lean toward Mecole. As for Worthy, I can't imagine they traded up to get him in the first round so he could fill the WR4/gadget role. They have to envision him bringing more to the table than that.

A_sunlit_room

I agree. Mecole had 6tds in 2022 and he missed a lot of games. Was easily on pace for 10 tuds. I would never expect points from him, but he’s fast and tough.

kelny

I didn't get that impression at all. He seemed like a prima dona with all the physical ability but a bad attitude. He didn't seem to be putting in the mental work to learn Reid's offense. I think he's valuable at around a WR3 level, but it becomes a question of whether it's worth the drama that comes along with it.

Thicbiscuit_datgravy

No big surprise when the only argument for him not being cut is there's no financial benefit to cutting him. Dude may not even be on the roster this year depending on how things play out.

BeRoyal35

People don't realize how expensive 5th year option is. Sometimes even really good players don't get it

swordfishtoupee

Even if he was a stud last year it seems highly unlikely they'd sign him to a 5th year give how tightly we walk the salary cap.

Jantokan

No one can say he didn’t get his chances here in KC. Last season especially, where our WR room was the least talented it has ever been in the Mahomes era, all eyes were on him to take the next step in his first full season— he took the next step alright, just backwards.

GameOverMan78

The option for WR is something like $14.4 million. I don’t think the team declining has to do with KT’s ability, per se, but he’s not worth that much. They’re still interested in keeping him and hopefully he will keep progressing.

Pythoss

Guy is more interested in his shitty rap “career” than playing football. Gronk pointed out last year in an interview that Kadarius Toney was making repeated mistakes throughout last season rather than getting better. Said that’s an indication of a player who doesn’t love or care for football as much as he should as a pro.

robertb9876

It is probably wishful thinking, but hopefully he will be motivated to have a breakout season since it's a contract year, then we could get a decent comp pick when he leaves.

Malcolm_Y

We probably won't get anything *for* him, but hopefully we get something *from* him as he tries to show out this season and resurrect his career. But honestly, he went outside the house to air his grievances against the team to the press. So if they want to park him as assistant tablet holder for special teams the whole season, I'm good with that too.

dogfish83

That's actually a bigger knock on him than his dropped passes to me. Can't have that shit.

MahomiesForLife

Skyy is next

ApplesauceBitch47

Wasn’t a first round pick so he doesn’t have the 5th year option

MahomiesForLife

Good

ApplesauceBitch47

Haha agreed

ChiefSampson

He didn't help himself with that weird ass social media rant last year.

Sokkawater10

His ceiling is WR4. I think Patrick lost trust in him which means the targets will go to Rice Kelce Hollywood and Worthy over him

daksjeoensl

WR2 is a stretch. If he didn’t drop balls he could have been a WR3 last year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

daksjeoensl

They said he has a lot of talent. Sadly his talent has never turned into any production. He will always have place in the kingdom for that punt return, but he hasn’t done anything from the WR position that really makes you think he’s anything but a JAG. Tons of talent but lacks the work ethic and football IQ to put it all together.

Own_Experience_8229

Nobody was selling him as a WR1.

dogfish83

>turn some drops into catches \*For OUR team Ya gots to be more specific with your wishes

kelny

I think he has virtually no upside. He's had a lot more opportunities to turn his career around than most people get and he's continually failed. He failed so badly last year that the chiefs liked their playoff chances more if he wasn't even on the field. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets cut this season, even though his entire contact is dead money. He will be lucky if he's still an NFL player in 2025.

DoesItReallyMatter28

That's Super Bowl Champion WR Kadrius Toney. Put some respect on that name.

TheBoyisBackinTown

Melvin Gordon taps his ring in approval

bilgewax

T Sizzle tips Superbowl Champion ball cap in solidarity.

bstyledevi

*LeSean McCoy adjusts his 2 rings with zero postseason snaps*

JimiM1113

Might not have beaten the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII without him. Returned a punt to the 5 and caught a TD pass.

revnasty

A blind man with half an arm could have caught that touchdown pass

Errlyagain

Shocked 😳

HotSoupEsq

Dude is fast, but he's also an interception machine, brick hands.

Remulus10

If he drops the ball downward we wouldn't even be talking about him. But for some reason he pops it straight up like a balloon. Every single time. It's bewildering! But that said, you're right he's dynamic as hell when he does secure the ball

amjhwk

the ol Tyreek method

Piedesert

Him and Skyy competing for a single roster spot is the role they need in camp

Lostmyaccount42068

In other news: water is wet

principalman

I think most of these comments give KT way too much credit upstairs. They're attributing his drops to nerves or pressure. I'm not sure the dude is situationally aware enough to understand pressure. Last year when he was offsides against the Bills, he didn't know it was him who committed the penalty u til he went home. KT is just a speedy, talented, Gumby-jointed window licker.

rolyinpeace

Oh no!! We’re doomed!

FinallyFlowering

NOOOOO!!!!! REALLY???!!!!!

reggaesquirrel

Him running to celebrate in fluffy slippers will always be hilarious to me.

factoid_

In other breaking news water is also wet

dogfish83

that would explain the drops. KT stop dipping your gloves in water before taking the field!

deadtedw

Oh, no. What are we gonna do? No Super Bowl this year.

PhogMachine

![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)

RICERICE4

Hope KT has a career year and gets paid somewhere. Won’t be us. If he has 750+ yards and 6+ TDs someone desperate will give him the Christian Kirk deal, lmao

reggaesquirrel

Love this

[deleted]

Toney might be really effective at the new kick off format.

RICERICE4

You know what they say… contract year is undefeated 😤 but probably not for KT, he’s cheeks. Prove me wrong.

BarricadeTheMortuary

Can anyone explain why he hasn't been straight up dropped from the team?

LiPuddleDucks

Doesn't pay to drop him. Net zero to just keep him

BeRoyal35

No financial benefit at all for cutting him. He will need to have a good attitude and stay healthy through camp to make the 53 tho.

big_drifts

Sure. There's no other avail WR out there for this cheap who has his potential with the ball in his hands and is already familiar with Andy's scheme. If he's fully healthy and can lock in mentally, the Chiefs think he is worth more on the 53 than at home. Clearly he will still have to prove himself this year during training camp and preseason to make the 53. It's not guaranteed he makes the squad if he's checked out or going off on social media again.

BarricadeTheMortuary

Yeah I guess. Except he's proven time and time again that he can't get the ball in his hands. The team literally refused to activate him for the playoffs because of how terrible he is. It is what it is, but it just seems like they would be better off cutting him and eating the cap rather than having said disgruntled player they publicly blackballed back into the locker room. Either way we throw away $2 million.

Went from being a record breaking Super Bowl Champion to a lean sipping rapping diva

3dios

Cut his dumbass. He and Moore have gotten enough free rings. Idgaf about a one off play. They've both held the team back

JimiM1113

Free ring? He scored a TD and returned a punt to the 5 in a Super Bowl we won by 3.
