I think that's all of them lol
Forgot BBS - I'd probably put it after dark road so you still have no idea who any of the wayfinders are until they're no longer relevant to your play order
I feel like having MoM near the top of the lost negates a lot of the confusion given it’s 90% recap of every other game aside from UnionX and Dark Road. Granted it’s not a *complete* recap but it gives enough of an overview to make the difference.
You’d have to stop playing KH1 after Hollow Bastion 1 to play part of Days, then go back to KH1, go to 0.2 inbetween Ansem bosses, back to days, to CoM, then back to Days before continuing normally.
Think about playing Dark Road, Unchained, Union Cross, AND THEN diving into BBS and moving forward generally as normal.
The information, as someone with no clue about the series, would be so scuffed. You got all the Xehanort information, you see Ventus, and noooothing at all makes any form of sense.
It’s like 6 hours of story essential cutscenes, then you watch 4 1/2 hours of Young Xehanort, then you actually play a game with a still young Ventus and now old Xehanort, then find out the little kid that shows up a couple times is the main character for the rest of the franchise.

I thought about this for a long time, I think it would be the most incomprehensible order possible.
I think MoM is too early; it summarizes all the other games so it’ll give a lot of generalized context that will ultimately be more helpful than harmful when trying to understand the rest of the story.
Yeah, the “story mode” groups up the songs by game and you go through them in (more or less) release order. As you progress you see some of the cutscenes from the games and Kairi gives a voice over summary of what happens.
Then the last thirty minutes or so is actual new story content that leads into KH4
Someone else said this already but chronological would probably be terrible. maybe not the worst but i cant imagine starting the franchise with union x and dark road. they were clearly not written with the intention of someone starting the story there, and the story assumes you know the story of the console titles
there is really only one order to go through kh that most people consider to be good, and that is release order. any other order that would suck or be confusing is if you skipped games or played games in really weird orders (ie you start with kh2, then play recom, then bbs, etc), but i dont think anyone would do that intentionally (i hope).
I don't have enough brain power to figure out a complete order because regardless the series would get less confusing with each subsequent entry (especially if you start later and then go backwards, things would start being like "oh" or "huh").
But outside of the suggestions that are saying true chronological with the mobile games first, I think it would be pretty funny to \*Drop\* someone into Dream Drop Distance first honestly. Tons of confusing jargon, the janky drop mechanic, dream eaters existing in general and also being a game mechanic, the introduction of time travel and all of the "we gotta save these random characters that you don't know anything about" plot threads towards the end, etc. What a wild ride that would be for an introductory point lol.

I think playing them out of release order for the first time would be confusing no matter what. But DDD one of the first played would be so confusing.
When I got The Story So Far in the lead up to KH3 I played the games in chronological order. I had only played 1&2 so I made the horrible mistake of trying to follow the games in the natural flow of time instead of just playing them in release order like a normal person.
I played 358/2 days as my first game when I was really young so I just thought it followed Roxas. When I got the internet and found everyone talking about this “Sora” guy I was extremely confused
Chronological really isn't that bad. In fact I wouldn't even say it's bad at all. Which makes sense, because if the plot doesn't make sense if you go through it the way the characters would, that would kind of be evidence of it being a nonsensical plot.
I think playing recap games before their subject is really confusing -- I only had a GBA so I played com first, and was totally lost.
So, honestly, reverse chronological.

I knew I forgot one. Also added remind since it's kinda a short KH game in itself
Nah, leave it out to add to the confusion ~~or wait would that actually lessen it?~~

Fair enough. I was thinking more in terms of its the last game so far so let's put it near the top.
Chronological. Like, TRUE timeline chronological. So much of the information would be all over the place
You’d have to stop playing KH1 after Hollow Bastion 1 to play part of Days, then go back to KH1, go to 0.2 inbetween Ansem bosses, back to days, to CoM, then back to Days before continuing normally.

Ah okay, I haven't played it yet and thought it was just visuals and music from the games.

Imo only exception is that you can swap recom and kh2, sora doesn't remember it in kh2 so you can relate to his perspective if you do kh2 before it
Start with Kingdom Hearts VCast. Then do the meet and greet with Sora at Disneyland in 2002. Then play Coded and Dark Road.
What about the 358/2 Days puzzle flash game?
Play that between Vcast and the Meet & Greet.
I mean I played them in release order and I still don’t understand half of what’s going on.
I Iaughed
One world at a time alternating through the series. And then do all the final worlds at the same time.

That was also my thought. That game is bonkers.
KHUX first. You wouldn’t recognize any of the medals.
