Totally fair lol. I guess I was thinking about strictly pooling snack money at that amount but ye we’re all paying enough tuition that snacks shouldn’t be the issue…
I wouldn’t go that far. It’s basically a requirement for a clerkship and many firms look for it too. One of the biggest things you can do to boost your resume in law school.
The dues are for activities the journal does or food the journal provides throughout the year. Could include food at meetings, happy hours, game nights, snacks and coffee for the office, etc. Some schools have endowments or funds specific to the law review. Those that don’t have to charge dues.
Yeah, really wanted to. Especially b/c it seems the only purpose for the money is to buy objectively ugly swag and plan events I had no interest in attending. Sigh, hopefully just having the line on my resume pays off?
Am I the only person that thinks this is completely normal? We got sweatshirts, a bunch of events with open bars (2-ish per semester), stocked snacks year-round. We paid a one time due of, I think, 200$.
What kind of ass clown chicanery is that? Dues??? The audacity of them to charge you, you’re already providing free labor for credits that are less than they should be.
We have a one time fee per semester at my school. I think it’s like 50 bucks?
I think it’s for the end of semester showcase. Like it’s mandatory because attendance at that is more or less mandatory as well.
It’s basically just all the journals come together for a showcase of the final print for the semester. Leaders of each journal do a little speech and everyone kinda just chills and celebrates putting out good work.
Yeahhhh definitely.... especially when there's always an "activity fee" to go to school (which is a pool for all "activities" and journals should be included)
They used to at my school, but within the past couple years they tied it into the student activity fee, so now it’s covered by whatever the student normally pays for tuition.
LOL. No. Absolutely not. I was EIC of my school’s law review and went to battle with the administration over the lack of support for law review (especially given how much they rely on unpaid student labor to get it done), but there’s no way I’d charge members dues.
Who the fuck is requiring dues for law review??? We used our royalties & portion of the activities fee to fund a new fridge and food for proof day.
This is heinous.
Dues for what? The free labor you are going to do on cite checking articles no one will ever read?
That's why I asked! 😅 shit don't sit right with me, consequence of being poor, both the school and me
I think I got 4 credits for law review. I guess I paid tuition for them? Which is still some bs
Paid in hours of my life. Definitely not actual money though.
Paying money? No. Paying with my soul is a different story.
the cost of the career.. every career, not just law. pony up!
I’m pretty sure everybody kicked in like $50 bucks to pay for snacks in the LR office for the year. You guys have actual dues?Â
Yup, $100
Certified silly
Couldn't agree more my g
Yo that's wild. We had dues but they were $15.
That’s like reasonable af
Man fuck that, this an official school function 😅 aint none of this shit reasonable
Totally fair lol. I guess I was thinking about strictly pooling snack money at that amount but ye we’re all paying enough tuition that snacks shouldn’t be the issue…
💯
WashU makes you pay dues too. It’s ridiculous.
Damn, ok, that highly ranked of a school doing it makes me feel both better and more upset? 😅
This explains why my tour guide said almost nobody does it and the firms don't care anymore lmao

Or they do none of that ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ lolol my school’s law review hasn’t had a single social event 🥲
Snacks and game nights? Do you go to latchkey college of law?
What?
Snacks and game nights are normal things for most student organizations to host from time to time, hate to break it to you…
online student... lol
Not a red cent. I am an editor now so I am paying in sweat and tears, but no green money.
No but we get ONE credit for the first semester and none for the last three 😒 ridiculous
Academic thievery!
Get this... law review dues for me were THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. And I go to a low-ranked school. It was my first moment of regret (and had many after)
FAWK I think I would've walked away at that sheesh Sorry friend
Yeah, really wanted to. Especially b/c it seems the only purpose for the money is to buy objectively ugly swag and plan events I had no interest in attending. Sigh, hopefully just having the line on my resume pays off?
It will...or at least that's what they say
Pay for law review?? Sucker born every day I suppose.
🥲
<3

No see that's valid! We ain't getting allat 😂
What kind of ass clown chicanery is that? Dues??? The audacity of them to charge you, you’re already providing free labor for credits that are less than they should be.
I'm witchu boss...and yet here all these people talking about it 🥲🥲🥲
What school? Name and shame. T200 here and they pay us to be on E-Board, not the other way around.
Can't do friend I be on here for sex 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣 u know the app lets u swap accts, right? take a few evidence classes!
I CAN ONLY MAMAGE SO MANY 😫

Don't even know shit about a showcase, tell me more?

We're such nerds
lol yeah
T-30, paid $130ish. At least got one credit per semester for editing during 2L but at the cost of my dignity.
Dignity is expendable! We learned that in undergrad 😅
I mean...if you get credit for law review, you're paying to be on law review even before whatever fees
Yeah, but paying per credit AND dues? Hell to the no no!
Yeahhhh definitely.... especially when there's always an "activity fee" to go to school (which is a pool for all "activities" and journals should be included)
Church
They used to at my school, but within the past couple years they tied it into the student activity fee, so now it’s covered by whatever the student normally pays for tuition.
This is insane no I already pay enough to go here
Church
Yes, it is a like an unpaid internship.
LOL. No. Absolutely not. Apparently a lot of people, even at some higher ranked schools! My flabber was gasted
How much are the dues you are having to pay out of curiosity?
$100 cold hard cash homie
No money, only my time.
Wanna give us an idea of your school’s rank? Or even its name (you’re still anonymous anyway)?
