RTX 4080 has 35% better native gaming performance, 4 GB VRAM more. RTX 4070 has a heat pipes to cool it, RTX 4080 has a vapour chamber cooling system.

AntonyAGAK

And I'm assuming the vapour chamber cooling is better when it comes to gaming? (If this sounded rude sorry)

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Well the RTX 4070 effectively runs at 100W or so in games, not the full 140W but the RTX 4080/4090 can run at basically the full 175W in games. I think the RTX 4080 should run cooler under load.

AntonyAGAK

I didn't even know there was a 4090 option...And thanks this has helped a lot

johnorama

4080 all the way

SpiritualTwo5256

I was going to get the 7i myself but got spooked out of it because of my fear of repasting the cpu/gpu if I had to fix any fan issues. But I was going to go for the 4080. You probably missed an a great sale on the computer over the weekend. There were even some great codes you could add on that would make it even better. But if you think you might need the video ram, def go for a 80, either a 3080 or 4080.

honeyCrisis

It's $108 usd for 2 years of accidental damage protection and on-site service. No reason to be spooked really if you get that. =)

It's only the very latest AAA titles that are having issues with 8GB VRAM right now. Hogwarts Legacy was one such title but apparently it's had a lot of performance optimizations since launch and isn't as big of an issue anymore. You can also reduce VRAM usage by turning down the graphics a bit, which is going to be more necessary on the 4070 over time because it's not as fast as the 4080. If you can afford the 4080, and the price difference for the 4080 is acceptable to you, it's a good choice and certainly worth considering.

AntonyAGAK

I was originally planning to run 1440p with medium settings and I doubt I would be playing any AAA titles I mostly enjoy old games and I rarely ever play new games as for the price difference it's 20K egp and less ram which is a disappointment for the price

NZgeek

It sounds like the games you're playing will run perfectly fine on the 4070. There isn't really a need to get the 4080. You'd only need the faster GPU if you start playing recent games like Battlefield V or Escape from Tarkov. However, you'll likely want to turn off performance-killing graphics in those games in order to get a competitive advantage (e.g. depth of field, smoke effects) so the 4070 would still perform just fine.

AntonyAGAK

I don't really see myself playing on max graphics unless it's on an offline game or campaign mission. If I ever try to turn up the graphics it will most likely be to medium settings with only a few stuff maxed

honeyCrisis

I got the 4090 model over at B&H Photo for $2800 last week. You might check them out if you're state side. They may have another sale. Just beware that their return policy is pretty strict.

AntonyAGAK

I will try checking them if I end up going for the 4080/4090

honeyCrisis

Personally I would avoid the 4070, or really anything with less than 12GB of VRAM. I say that because even Fallout 4 with the HD PC textures requires it to get any frames, and that game is circa 2015. My 2080TI had 11GB. Don't get 8. You will regret it.

Specialist_Movie_661

Ive had both in a leigion and the 4080 is the only way to go.

Based on what I've seen so far, the only reason to get a thicker / heavier laptop like the Legion Pro 7i is if you opt for the 4080 or 4090. Due to the \~100w performance wall of the 4070 and lower, a slimmer and lighter option would be my choice. Maybe consider the Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 instead if you want the 4070. If you want power, the 4080 and 4090 are on another level... Finally, avoid B&H. You may not be able to return the laptop, mileage varies.

AntonyAGAK

It's not really an option where I live since I'm buying it in person shipping to where I am costs a fortune thanks to taxes on electronics
