How to waste your people's tax money 101

Kiddo1029

Believe me, the lawyers defending this don’t think it’s a waste. They’ve been waiting for it pass so they can collect those sweet sweet fees.

Sir_Badtard

Billable hours always win

Careful_You_9541

Pass clearly un-Constitutional legislation. Siphon taxes towards... I mean *pay* your lawyer buddies to defend the clearly un-Constitutional legislation. Be forced to repeal clearly un-Constitutional legislation. Repeat until voters get tired of the BS or you replace enough of the Supreme Court so they'll allow the clearly un-Constitutional legislation. The latter seems to be the preferred option.

Sharticus123

The sheer stupidity of our representatives is truly something to behold. So who gets fined/charged if no one donates the money?

dudsmm

I hope the people that donate these are identified. I would like to sue them too....

CalmCommercial9977

Churches will donate, which will be money of the sheep who donate to the church… so funded by your fellow Louisianians

Plus-Organization-16

Then we need to tax churches

PleaseSendCoffee_

I think the people who donate will identify themselves...

AlabasterPelican

I really hope some contrarian donated signs in Arabic, Spanish, Mandarin, etc.

PleaseSendCoffee_

I have no idea, I went back and reread the article i have, and it does not mention anymore about funding, nor does it even mention penalties.

FoucinJerk

Same here. I’ve been looking but haven’t found any elaborate. I’m a teacher, and I can tell you I’m absolutely not paying for this garbage myself.

PleaseSendCoffee_

I'm not a teacher but I work in teacher resource industry, so we have been watching this unfold just to make sure we have enough merchandise. With that being said, your MAJOR teacher resource (decoratives specifically) suppliers have very few to choose from.

Daparishjess

They have to be donated. I guess you could buy but you don’t have to. If they aren’t donated, doesn’t have to happen.

PremierEditing

There's a 99.9999999% chance they had one or more wealthy donors lined up before they even introduced the bill

organasm

The waste is the legal fees it will cost to pay the many lawyers to go and be defeated in the multiple courts this will wind its way through. It's definitely a grift, as it won't stand because it's 100% unconstitutional. The question is who, other than the lawyers, are in on the grift.

stars9r9in9the9past

So, supporting teachers will go out and buy a poster and be all high and mighty about it, opposing teachers will get caught up in asking who is responsible for paying (them, the principle/superintendent, parents, state board, etc) all the while someone is getting fined for not complying. That’s pretty fucked. Interested to see the Supreme Court take on this one, esp. with the current shit court.

PleaseSendCoffee_

And what is the fine or penalty? Who is going to be enforcing this? And a lot of this is ambiguously worded. For example, it must be poster size. Ok, I call something 17" x 22" a chart, others may call that a poster. Which wording of the ten commandments does it have to be? There are some that are for little kids, preschoolers, with very simple wording. Do they need to be in Latin? Arabic? Hebrew?

stars9r9in9the9past

Interesting read, here’s the law text in full: https://legis.la.gov/legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1379435 For some reason I can’t copy highlighted text on my phone from it or I’d paste some snippets. But of particular note, section 5 mentions a school will not be required to use money to buy posters, but that they “shall do either of the following”: accept funds from a donor (5a), or accept a free poster from a donor (5b). 6a then says the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is responsible for ensuring compliance. There really isn’t a mention about specific fines or penalties about not abiding by this law. But since it is law, it is illegal to not comply. So, it’s written kinda lazily, and intentionally so I imagine to put the burden on those not complying. What I can see happening though is a bunch of religious lobbyists and organizations supplying all the posters and offering them to all schools, so that there is not way a school or teacher can say they didn’t have the option. And I am sure that these organizations will all be funded by angry religious parents donating whatever few dollars they can to ensure all schools are in compliance, and not a dollar more from any actual leading political voice in the matter.

PleaseSendCoffee_

belle2953

The poster or framed document must be 11 X 14 inches. This is the exact wording that has to be used: The Ten Commandments I AM the LORD thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven images. Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

taekee

Vote republican, get indoctrinated. What if a Muslim governor was in office and did something similar?

Realistic_Cap4306

People would crap their pants. Literally.

taekee

I used this argument once on why Biden should not push abortion just because he is a Christian. The president is elected as an individual, to cover ALL Americans, not to push his or her beliefs on others. It shut them down but said they did not care, they would never vote for him. Lol.

Realistic_Cap4306

I agree. I Jewish president WOULD push for abortion. Biden is pushing for choice. As a catholic his sect say abortion is a sin. So he IS working for the people.

adamus13

Every time i see “Tax money” I think of that video with the 2 old guys going back & forth at a MAGA event in Florida (i believe) and one of them shouted out “TAX PAYER MONEY” Definitely a waste of money tho

NotOnHerb5

Someone on Facebook seriously believes that this will solve classroom behavior problems across the state. As a teacher, I say “L-O-fucking-L”

oddmanout

Catholic schools have them hanging up. Those kids are still absolute terrors.

alwaysmakeitnice

That’s what Dodie Horton alleges! Also, those Ten Commandments have sure come in handy at preventing violent crime from ravaging communities and traumatizing kids who then externalize challenging behaviors at school.

Realistic_Cap4306

Fuck Dodie Horton!

GoodhartMusic

I can’t imagine the difficulties of being a teacher in Louisiana and places where the right is so entrenched.  There were frustrations my student’s parents expressed in San Francisco, a half day dedicated to teaching racial justice at a private elementary school Had some parents, charmed and others incensed. Two families I taught left the city over Covid protocols. They didn’t move to Louisiana, of course, but I wonder what they would choose.

NotOnHerb5

Stuff like this makes my job super ass, but I’d be lying if I said that I don’t love what I do. I just wish politicians would move out of the fucking way and stop sabotaging us.

GoodhartMusic

It’s coincidental, today an episode of a podcast I listen to is about the campaign for banning gay and lesbian people from being teachers in the state of California in the late 1970s. So much of the exact same rhetoric. It’s the existential threat that really gets me, but what might disgust me and hurt my spirit more is the absolute dearth of Christian charity in these people. The Bible is literally just a prop, and Christ would have early abandoned his political activities if he knew what bastardization it would be. I’m glad I don’t teach in public schools, I’ve always been a private teacher and I’m hopefully on my way to teach at universities universities will not be targeted either, they’ve already been targeted plenty. I am sorry, for the annoyance and grievances and the targets put on you and your colleagues back.

NotOnHerb5

If God were real and came down and said “Nah, I like the gays. Yall be good to them,” they would 100% reject God or say it was actually the devil that said it.

agulde28

You mean to tell me giving a bad child the Bible to read won’t solve things?! 😱

RoughPersonality1104

"Can't wait to be sued" and use our precious tax dollars to fight a useless legal battle that benefits no citizens

LynnNightNSFW

I’d prefer drivable roads, personally

tindalos

Mosquito control also.

Angedelanuit97

He wants to be sued because their ultimate goal is to get this to the supreme Court. They're trying to get laws appealed up to SCOTUS to weaken the separation between church and state.

tamarindsicle

gotta keep that culture war going

Odd_Tiger_2278

Energize the base. Distract Dem.

parasyte_steve

That'll fix the insurance crisis for sure

ForTheSenoritas

Bro there aren’t even Ten Commandments in Catholic school classrooms.

mynamesnotsnuffy

It's not about the commandments. It's about virtue signaling.

GoodhartMusic

I think it’s interesting. Most people here don’t seem to feel strongly about it, more like it’s pathetic. I think it shows the audaciousness of Republicans and their conviction in righteously Imposing themselves on society. Because something like the 10 Commandments on the wall to me says “higher ups won’t help you if you’re not playing by Evangelical rules, they actively oppose you.”

Yobanyyo

Not yet, but soon. Very very soon

Nervous_Explorer_898

Gonna laugh my ass off the moment one of these teachers decides to put up the Satanic Temple's 7 fundamental tenets right next to it.

cajuncats

I'm putting up the 5 pillars of islam in my classroom

take_care_a_ya_shooz

Nothing says religious freedom like forcing a Muslim teacher to pay for and display the Christian Ten Commandments in a public classroom!

Migamix

im putting up an empty bucket.

GoodhartMusic

The law stipulates the wording, so it doesn’t say must have a list of religious rules, it must have these words. It’s only a coincidence that those words match the 10 Commandments as evidenced in some version of an old book.

macaroni_3000

11. Thou shalt not vote for alt-right shitheads

Difficult_Ad_502

Part of the 15 when Moses dropped on the tablets ![gif](giphy|11XcgX9MWV3a8M)

Migamix

this should be a vinyl sticker for all classroom floors

FranticGolf

More like thou shalt vote. People don't care about voting anymore so we end up with shitheads in Baton Rouge.

FoucinJerk

Now that’s a commandment I can get behind. But make no mistake, there nothing really “alt” about this. It’s the same horseshit that more traditional factions of the right have been pushing for decades.

PineappleExcellent90

He knows this will not stand up in court. What is he doing, that citizens of Louisiana doesn’t know about.

baw3000

Shutting down tort reform that would save us all money but cost his attorney friends.

FlyingDiver58

Tort reform never saves money. That’s an insurance industry lie that’s been debunked for the last 40 years across the country. Just ask the doctors in Texas who’s premiums didn’t go down - or better yet, the victims who can’t get justice. Same with drivers. All the tort reform in the world won’t make your insurance rates go down. It’s about making their profits go up.

nolalaw9781

I bet you think the McDonalds case was a scam, too. Sheeple thinking was the industry has propagandized them to think. #idiots

outsmartedagain

Let’s start by teaching the one about not committing adultery and how that’s relevant to today’s politics

SpinyHedgehog14

GOP lives by "Rules for thee but not for me." They are currently fighting ethics requirements for the Supreme Court. Make that make sense. Apparently, kids must follow rules but the highest court in the US can accept millions in bribes and no one can have a say in it.

[deleted]

Regulus242

>Pass blatantly unconstitutional laws to guarantee your lawyers work and virtue signal to base >Use tax payer dollars to fight the cases > ~~???~~ Get kickbacks from law firms for guaranteeing them money >Profit!

grigsbie

Seems like a dumb thing to do considering it's clearly against the First Amendment and has been ruled as such by the U.S, Supreme Court. I can't wait for the satanists to get on this one and demand their commandments be posted in classrooms as well.

MamaTried22

It’s happened before here! They backed off REAL fast.

Imarobot225

Landry is an idiot and so is everyone who voted for him. I know we had shit as far as options but even people who know this scumbag personally say he is a douche. We have a rough road ahead with him as governor. Im

Pmoneymatt

Don't just put the blame on him, legislators wrote this into law and voted for it. Blaming the governor only is how they keep getting elected into office.

Imarobot225

It’s the government in general. Not just Louisiana, this entire country. I can’t say much about other states but living here just keeps worse and instead of complaining I’m going to leave.

taekee

Because he approved it, he is just as much to blame. But I agree legislatures should be should be taking equal responsibility. Unfortunately, responsibility is a tough word for GOP to understand.

iStress

how does this not … violate the establishment clause… its like a textbook violation …

somewhatbluemoose

They think that the court will have their backs and they can remake the country in their image

Laughing-gasser

Then so should these: The Ten Commandments, known in Christianity and Judaism, serve as a foundational set of ethical guidelines. Other religions and philosophical systems have their own equivalent sets of ethical principles or commandments. Here’s a look at comparable teachings across various faiths and philosophies: ### Islam 1. **Five Pillars of Islam**: While not a direct equivalent to the Ten Commandments, they serve as fundamental principles of a Muslim's faith and practices: - **Shahada**: Declaration of faith in the oneness of God and the prophethood of Muhammad. - **Salat**: Performing the five daily prayers. - **Zakat**: Giving alms or charity to the needy. - **Sawm**: Fasting during the month of Ramadan. - **Hajj**: Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if able. 2. **Sharia**: Islamic law derived from the Quran and Hadith also includes detailed ethical guidelines covering all aspects of life. ### Buddhism 1. **Five Precepts**: Basic ethical guidelines for lay Buddhists: - Abstain from taking life (non-violence). - Abstain from taking what is not given (no stealing). - Abstain from sexual misconduct. - Abstain from false speech (no lying). - Abstain from intoxicants that cloud the mind. 2. **Noble Eightfold Path**: Guidelines to end suffering and achieve enlightenment: - Right Understanding - Right Intent - Right Speech - Right Action - Right Livelihood - Right Effort - Right Mindfulness - Right Concentration ### Hinduism 1. **Yamas and Niyamas**: Ethical disciplines in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: - **Yamas** (restraints): - Ahimsa (non-violence) - Satya (truthfulness) - Asteya (non-stealing) - Brahmacharya (continence) - Aparigraha (non-covetousness) - **Niyamas** (observances): - Saucha (purity) - Santosha (contentment) - Tapas (austerity) - Svadhyaya (self-study) - Ishvara Pranidhana (surrender to God) 2. **Dharma**: The ethical and moral duties in accordance with one’s position and responsibilities in life. ### Sikhism 1. **Three Pillars of Sikhism**: - **Naam Japna**: Remembering God through meditation and chanting. - **Kirat Karni**: Honest living and hard work. - **Vand Chakna**: Sharing with others, particularly the needy. 2. **Rehat Maryada**: The Sikh code of conduct which includes daily practices and ethics. ### Confucianism 1. **Five Constants (Wuchang)**: Core human virtues: - Ren (benevolence) - Yi (righteousness) - Li (proper conduct) - Zhi (wisdom) - Xin (integrity) 2. **Four Virtues (Si Duan)**: Additional ethical principles: - Loyalty - Filial piety - Continence - Righteousness ### Jainism 1. **Five Vows (Mahavratas)**: - Ahimsa (non-violence) - Satya (truth) - Asteya (non-stealing) - Brahmacharya (celibacy/chastity) - Aparigraha (non-possessiveness) ### Zoroastrianism 1. **Threefold Path**: - Humata (good thoughts) - Hukhta (good words) - Hvarshta (good deeds) ### Taoism 1. **Tao Te Ching**: Contains principles that guide ethical and moral behavior, emphasizing simplicity, humility, and compassion. 2. **Three Treasures**: - Compassion - Frugality - Humility ### Bahá'í Faith 1. **Principles of Bahá'í Ethics**: - Unity of God, religion, and humanity - Equality of men and women - Elimination of prejudice - Harmony of science and religion - Universal education - Spiritual solutions to economic problems These various sets of ethical teachings demonstrate that while the specifics differ, many religions and philosophies emphasize similar values like honesty, non-violence, charity, and integrity. This won’t survive a court of law.

SpookyB1tch1031

God isn’t even real

Andygator_and_Weed

Not down here for sure

DeadpoolNakago

Ew.

HiddenSnarker

Fuck this state. I hope teachers refuse to post them and kids rip down the ones that are put up. Whatever your religious beliefs, this should make ALL of us angry. Public schools are not religious institutions. There is no reason for any one religion’s beliefs to be posted in public school classrooms being forced on all children. We’re entering very dangerous territory with this kind of crap.

simowilkins

Having taught in the state for 15 years, I know there are tons of Louisiana educators out there celebrating this and certain that it's going to do something to making things better (including a lot of my old coworkers). If I were still teaching, I would also post lists of guiding principles from other world religions. I definitely wouldn't give the ten commandments a place of prominence. If I were told I couldn't do that, I like to think that I'd either fight it or resign. But, it's hard to say.

Realistic_Cap4306

Like I know a mom who does not want her son taught pronouns. Like she even understands pronouns. Bonus points for using pronouns in your replies.

Conscious_Bus4284

Will this make insurance rates come down?

FlyingDiver58

No, but it will fix the roads.

Kimber80

This will not stand up in federal court, I think.

Zendiamond

This is basically a bailout for private law firms

metalunamutant

This is what this is, and needs to publicly called out as such. More tax dollars wasted so Klandry can grease his buddies palms and score points with magats.

Sir_Badtard

Surprised that the state is working on Juneteenth. The racism goes so hard that they won't even take a free day off.

CalmCommercial9977

They took off Friday 6/14

mjord42

Most of the state workers aren’t working today. It was a proclaimed holiday.

IHateThisDamnWebsite

I’m a state worker in Louisiana, we get every other federal holiday off Juneteenth is the only one we don’t. I have not been given a clear answer as to why, this is almost certainly racially motivated. Moving out of this state soon, it can sink into the sea for all I care.

mjord42

I’m a state worker in Louisiana too, and I literally had the day off yesterday along with everyone in my department. It was a proclaimed holiday by the governor. You just enter it as LH in LEO because it’s not hardcoded like other holidays in LEO. You definitely need to talk to HR about why you weren’t allowed off when almost all other state workers were (except for certain essential employees like state police, etc.).

gettheplow

Let’s talk to kindergartners about adultery. Start with Landry.

OttawaC

Awesome. A great discussion point to cross reference to conservative politics. How does the Republican candidate stack up? 1. I am the LORD your God; you shall not have strange gods before me. 2. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain. 3. Remember to keep holy the LORD’s Day. 4. Honor your father and mother. 5. You shall not kill. 6. You shall not commit adultery. 7. You shall not steal. 8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. 10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

lemeneurdeloups

Louisiana born and bred. Was happy and proud of my state and culture most of my life. I think I was living in a fool’s paradise. I just loved my friends and life and family and lifestyle and didn’t realize how many hateful and ignorant people live there or how deeply conservative so much of the population is. Not going there anymore. I feel ashamed now and will never set foot in that state again for the rest of my life. As it is I haven’t been for a decade now . . . when people ask where I am from I just say “the US.”

One-Mission-4505

What a freaking nutjob

pjcortazzo204

Dude literally said he’s proud that he’s going to get the state sued and waste taxpayer dollars on legal bills over this.

Fun_Mathematician178

What is wrong with Louisiana?? This is outrageous.

BigAzzTittays

Way to waste a fuck ton of money yall already don't have.

tikifire1

I taught for 20 years total. Forcing something on kids like this will not endear them to it. They will most likely run in the opposite direction. This will not work out the way they think it will.

MamaTried22

There’s already a massive fuckton of Christianity in public school here, not sure why we need this! There’s prayer probably in almost every (not saying every, almost all) public schools in the state.

SelfSniped

Y’allqaeda strikes again. Vote these clowns out of office and let’s try fixing shit that IS broken instead of breaking shit that isn’t.

bunglerm00se

Not in my classroom. They’ll have to fire me, and good luck with that — my record is spotless and my evaluations have been exemplary.

The hypocrisy is strong with the Louisiana GOP leadership. Louisiana has capitol punishment. They will almost all vote for Trump who has broken most of those commandments. I guess they are more like guidelines than rules. Did I mention how proud I am to be from that state? /s

mymar101

Does it mention how they are to be displayed because I have a few ideas

1Davide

[The text of the HB71 law](https://legis.la.gov/legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1379435) doesn't say in which language. They could post a poster of [the 10 Commandments in Braille]( https://jerewilliams.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/williams-braille-tablet-web-small.jpg)

MacTruk_SC

Mardi Gras gonna be an all timer in 2025!

Are students allowed to have mega tip sharpies?

burntthumbs

Citizens of Louisiana: You do vote, right?

praguer56

ALL classrooms? Like EVERY classroom in every school across the state? Who the fuck is paying for all those whateverthefuckitis they're going to hang?

SnooGrapes6230

Apparently state funds are not permitted to buy them. So the teachers need to pay for them out of pocket, and risk punishment if they don't. So much fun for LA teachers now...

Synth_Luke

I agree, but it’s likely just going to be a piece of standard printing paper taped onto a wall somewhere.

Rojoman2

I would hang it up, then I’d hang something else right ontop of it.

FlyingDiver58

So, who gets to defend the state? Breazeale? Kean Miller? Jones Walker? You know their partners are chomping at the bit to defend the state in this defenseless litigation. Those lawyers need new houses off of 30A, which Klandry will be free to use, of course.

RefrigeratorSolid379

How crazy is it that these very same right-wingers accuse teachers of “indoctrinating” students….. they can all go eff themselves…

GetchaWater

“requires a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities.” Put them up in Hebrew. Make sure it’s large, easily readable font. gettheplow

He and the morons who passed this into law should personally foot the bill for the lawyers that have to defend this. I know the State AG will, and they should fail miserably. It’s time to leave. It really is.

Taliban5043

These kids can’t even write in cursive and they worried bout putting the 10 commandments up lol oh please

Lonely_Fry_007

People forcing religion down kids throats to make them behave. Never worked before and won’t work now. Rebel!

MrGeno

Put it under the Fiction section.

Twattie_Mc_Twat_Face

To force the bored kids to look at the 10 commandments every day in school couldn't do more to push kids away and make them hate the Abrahamic belief systems if they tried.  I personally loathe and detest religion as a whole. The Abrahamic faiths are bloodthirsty fascist organizations designed to indoctrinate the faithful into being ok with being a slave. Until death. So go ahead Xtians. Cram your religious  crap down even more kids throats and watch em get anorexia.

Tinyasparagus

Yes, this will definitely stop 10 year old boys from sexually harassing girls.

MamaTried22

*pukes everywhere* The vast majority of the state already has an intense/fully allowed Christian presence. Tons of praying before sports and assembly so idk why we needed to illegally legalize it.

Cainadien

Literally sold our house yesterday and are moving across the country as I type this. Add this to the massive list of reasons why we are leaving.

NickManson

Seems like every day this Governor is signing into law things that violate the constitution. Maga always cries and bitches and their snowflake safe space melting that They don't want other sexual preferences and other religions pushed in their face" But they have NO PROBLEM at all pushing their bullshit into everyone else's face. Freedom of speech but watch what your say and freedom of religion but only for christians.

MamaTried22

Yeah, he’s gunning to be Florida Jr.

ciliary_stimulai

Said aomething like "I can't wait to get sued for this" or some shit too, what an asshat

Chelanteau

I see a lot of comments in here saying this clearly violates 1A. That used to be the case but the new Court has changed how the Establishment Clause analysis works: Nowadays, we have to use “an analysis focused on original meaning and history” test and have to ask if the founders would have wanted to prevent this kind of action. It’s not clear whether this violates 1A under today’s standards.

MarshallGibsonLP

That's exactly right. The Supreme Court gets to decide what is and isn't a violation of the 1A. I would certainly not like to have the current court rule on this legislation. If the R's have a big showing in November, this is only the beginning.

TastyBullfrog2755

Bucket list.

nsasafekink

Which version are they gonna use?

superspeck

It's supposedly (still trying to source this) not using a version that appears in any bible. They're using the version from the movie The Ten Commandments, which the Fraternal Order of the Eagles got from a judge who was paraphrasing them. If you were to display the KJV version, /u/MamaTried22 , you would be in violation of this ridiculous law. Can't do that. Gotta use the version from an old Hollywood movie that doesn't appear in any religion instead. Which I guess is fitting for an awful bit of political theater.

ב''ה, hey, for the younger folks, was nice to get to visit your state, I started out pretty secular and, y'know, beating folks over the head with this stuff doesn't make it happen unless you're ready.  So, two things to keep in mind - educationally, this is one of the major first instances of writing down the rules so everyone can play fair, so if anyone has to stare at them, try not to fault my people but consider that historical angle.  Next, technically rabbis will tell you that unless you *are* Jewish or going with the "Rome stole this for everyone" angle, you've only got 7 vaguely looser 'Noachide laws' to worry about, and of course George Carlin also had a hot take on what the legal profession calls 'restatement.'  That said, murder and theft could at least be things health insurance could cover.

Religion poisons everything.

ErrorCode78

Seriously. Honestly compare this: 1. THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. 2. THOU SHALT NOT MAKEUNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE. 3. THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN. 4. REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. 5. HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER. 6. THOU SHALT NOT KILL. 7. THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. 8. THOU SHALT NOT STEAL. 9. THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINSTTHY NEIGHBOUR. 10. THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR'S HOUSE. To this: 1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason. 2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions. 3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone. 4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. 5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs. 6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused. 7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. I will go with satan and chose the second list as my guide to loving a good life. Fuck Christianity, fuck all religions. It’s time to make America great for the first time and do away with religion’s influence.

Browns45750

Have a trip to New Orleans in November . Almost makes me want to cancel , dont want my tourism tax money going toward the legal defense fund of this crazy law

Lonely_Fry_007

Another way to oppress people, start with the kids and shove them back into closets and boxes. I don’t think any child needs to know anything about adultery. Not kill! Will the teachers take the commandments and show an active shooter? You see, you shall not murder! What a freaking joke! Instead of putting laws that would actually benefit public schools they slap some 1940s bs all over the place .

Odd_Tiger_2278

Why?

Odd_Tiger_2278

So, Hammurabi’s laws didn’t make the cut? How did they pick those 10?

Odd_Tiger_2278

As always, energize the base. Distract liberals from the only topic that matters ~ Elect Biden and Dem to Congress and Senate and state elections.

Phoenix-Angel

That’s great. If we know there’s one thing that creates republicans, it’s shoving religion down people’s throats

RamboLeeNorris

Unconstitutional, violates the first amendment

truth-4-sale

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on Wednesday June 19th, signed into law a bill that makes the state the only one in the country to require displaying the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20240620-louisiana-orders-schools-to-display-ten-commandments-in-all-classrooms

[deleted]

You must believe... this news reached my country to the National level. Amazing! Haha, this is the solution! /s

Fit_Earth_339

Addendum: they can only go in if all the lawmakers who thought it was so important can name the commandments in order since they’re all so godly.

anonymousmutekittens

Patiently waiting for the satanic temple to step in with the 7 tenets

poolnome

With hold any federal money

Fingerprint_Vyke

Display it on the floor so your student have to wall on it every day

Realistic_Cap4306

How sad for our non Christian families. But I suppose the intent in our legislature is to turn Louisiana into a predominantly white, christian state with very isolated pockets of African American Christians. No hate like Christian hate.

Exotic-Trust7269

As a Louisianian, this is just plain dumb.

Justsayin68

Can they at least print them on a bullet proof shield, so there is a chance that they’ll do some good.

holeinthedonut

Its about the media exposure. Money for lawyers is just a sweet side benefit

gayjewtrombone

Would it be considered complying if I put them up in ancient Hebrew?

DriedWetPaint

Elect Nazis.  Get Nazi behavior

FallingFeather

well it seems the state is governed by the few, for the cultists, from god in They Trust. But who voted them in? FIGHT BACK PEOPLE POWER???

Hank_moody71

Unconstitutional

Micronbros

Might as well post religious doctrine from every religion in existence.  Buddhism, Hinduism, confucianism, Taoism, Sikhism, Jainism, Khawarij, Shia Islam, Sunni, Judaism, Manichaeism, Altaic, Freemasonry, Jesuits, Pastafarianism (commonly known as the Church of the Flying Spagetti Monster).. There is a reason we have separation of church and state.  The state cannot turn the school into a church.

madcoins

What’s the over under on this? 6 months, 1month?

Thire4477

Freedom of Religion Section 8. No law shall be enacted respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Is this not illegal based on the state constitution?

trumpets_n_crawfish

If any state needs the 10 commandments, it’s us. Laundry is looking out for us.

Adjuster123

Good! Now kids can read them and realize their parents and their politicians pay lip service to the 10 Commandments, just like everyone else does.

Upstairs-Scholar-275

The kidd in public and private schools here can barely read! I'm not a teacher but homeschool and my kids help our neighbor kids with their simple schoolwork because they never seem to understand it. Louisiana has way to many issues to be focusing on religion so much.

SeaAdvisor8168

Why is that a problem??

Timely_Junket_1226

It's not indoctrination if our side does it, according to these losers

FishGangPuck

u/Subject-Violinist311

demoman45

Fuck that, what is the state gonna do if it’s not displayed? Seriously tho, what is the penalty? 10 lashes or death by guillotine?

xxforrealforlifexx

God left out though shall not molest children especially if your a priest/pastor.

tc7984

lol that’ll solve your problems

RangerDapper4253

Unconstitutional.

WorIdTraveler

I'm more concerned with the gender delusion being taught in schools. People need to focus more on what matters.

DriedWetPaint

Fuck that indoctrination

Blusterpug

“The GOP holds a supermajority in the Legislature, and Republicans hold every statewide elected position, paving the way for lawmakers to push through a conservative agenda.” Damn that is disheartening.

DONALDJONSUPPLE

Sue them

TurtlesFromHell

I would purchase a massive fake tree and place it directly in front of the poster, completely blocking it. Maliciously compliant..

IgnoranceIsShameful

Here's hoping they put up armed services recruitment posters right up next to "thou shall not kill"
