Peach is probably the one who invites him.
As a diplomat, she realizes that every moment Bowser is messing around at a party or go-karting is a moment he isn’t planning anything against her kingdom.
Sounds like a line straight from Persona 3's Mass Destruction song, "keeping my friends close and my foes closer" it's a lyric from Mass Destruction FES
I think it all makes WAY more sense when you headcanon Mario 3 onto the entire series. Mario 3 is a play. So Mario and Bowser are just characters in a series of plays, episodes, movies, etc. They're actors playing a character that has grown in popularity/scale over time, who then turn around and do stuff together like golfing, etc.
I wish Bowser was more of a threat now. One things that I liked about the Galaxy games is how Bowser felt like a powerful almost god-like being capable of taking over the known universe
I think Odyssey especially did a good job at having Bowser have a presence throughout each kingdom. With him and the Broodals snagging a key aspect from each kingdom for his wedding. You also have got to love Bowser confronting you on a giant lightning dragon!
I think in general Nintendo is kinda going in a less serious direction with the series in general look at Mario Wonder Bowser’s big thing that he was charging up for the entire game was a rock show that everyone would hear.
And I think the big point of this direction change was Odyssey and Bowser’s Fury
Odyssey looking back kinda feels like Nintendo wanting to kinda move on from the format of Bowser kidnapping Peach with the plot being Bowser winning at first and now preparing to marry Peach with the end having Peach reject both Mario and Bowser and after Odyssey Peach has become much less of a Damsel in distress and in Bowser’s Fury Bowser after being freed from the sludge stuff isn’t really treated as a threat with Mario just standing still as Bowser tries to claw at him with Jr. keeping Bowser away so in general the series just seems to be going in a less serious direction since Odyssey
When did I say Bowser was too goofy in Wonder?
I was just saying that Nintendo in general is going in a less serious direction with the series and honestly Bowser only worked as an intimidating not goofy villain in Galaxy and back when there wasn’t really a way to characterize him and even back then the cartoons and shows had him as a really goofy not commonly threatening bad guy also his ultimate plan in the original game and lost levels was stand on a bridge that has an axe right behind him that can chop down the entire bridge even in his first ever appearance he was a little bit of a goofy villain
I honestly prefer goofy Bowser since it allows for more creative fights without feeling like it’s out of character for him to not just trap Mario in a room and fight him as simple as that
Yeah if Mario had a power up like a fire flower with him but then again Bowser then would just need to hit Mario once and then he would eventually win once Mario gets too tired to keep dodging
Mario's a crafty bastard while Bowser is a brute. All Mario would have to do is outsmart Bowser into somehow killing himself if he can't out muscle him.
And if we're talking 3D Mario games, Bowser would likely be impervious to the Fire Flower.
Honestly I'd argue Nintendo is doing a better job about this. Galaxy to me while Bowser is shown as this threat in cutscenes, I feel a real disconnect in his fights as I remember it being pretty basic for the most part. I think Odyssey and Wonder do a good job of being consistent between portrayal and the actual fights.
Still, I'd argue peak bowser is Pape 64. I also love TTYD even if he's more comic relief for most of the game. Him dropping in and completely kicking your teeth in right before the final boss has REALLY stuck with me personally at least.
I'm playing the thousand year door remake and he feels so inconsistent, all the characters are terrified of him but he's constantly played off as a blubbering fool
He’s going thru the “king ddd” cycle where he started as a threat, has his moments of goofy, but generally just is in a slow spiral out of the main villain role into the side villain/antihero
Well Bowser is only really ever the side villain in spin off games and even then most of the spin offs have Bowser as the villain and even the rpg spin-offs have Bowser as a villain a lot so Bowser is still the main villain of the series Nintendo is just leaning more into the goofy side of the series just in general so that leads to Bowser being more goofy as well
Oh I love this topic.
Bowser is my absolute favorite Mario character! He's the biggest oaf and honestly the best part of any Mario RPG. He is so exquisitely and hilariously written and the part in Origami King when he speaks of the difficulties of being a single father really struck a chord with me.
It's so boring when he is reduced to just a vile evil dragon (like Smash loves to eccentuate). When he has character and is a big dopey villain like Dedede...I find him so fun.
I'm glad more people are enjoying Bowser's personality and I hope to see more of it in the movies and games!
Yeah I’m hoping the next Smash game since it’ll likely be some sort of reboot of Smash Bros (since you kinda can’t top the EVERYONE IS HERE thing Ultimate had without it kinda rebooting the series) that it’ll change character moves sets and hopefully lead to Bowser being more like his actual game self instead of generic dragon turtle
Bowser is at his peak when he is a threatening villian hell he’s even great in other roles like bowsers inside story, I don’t like how he’s becoming more of a joke now.
Bowser has never really been a threatening villain. Even the first time we see him his grand plan involves standing on a bridge with the bridge release switch behind him. He's always been a somewhat silly guy
Yeah but that was back then when he was terribly simplistic now he can conquer the universe and destroy it, betrayed antasma and became a god, has the ability to become a giant and pulverise giant machines and is able to take on foes more powerful than him, all while still maintaining a funny side to him, this is the bowser I like, the 2d ones were he stands and a bridge and dies, I don’t consider that to be part of him.
Honestly, i think the Galaxy games and Bowser's Inside Story were the only times where he actually felt threatening back then. Besides the 2d games, where he just didnt really have a character
Yh he literally caused the world to end bc his star exploded, dooming everyone and forcing the lumas to sacrifice themselves in order to stand a chance, yh he was victim to the black hole too and unintentionally made it but during that time he was still literally a universal threat
he’s iconic, a good dad, clearly caring for his son. and i 100% picture him as a friend of mario’s when he’s not out kidnapping peach (see olympic games, mario kart, any mario sport game)
He's a bad guy, he deserves to get his ass beat every game, but he's still my fave. I don't feel like cartoon villains need that much justification for liking them tbh, internet has made people really weird about fiction.
I appreciate him still being the main villian for mainline Mario games but being a major anti-hero in the Spin-offs, not because he feels like being heroic but because if *he* can't Kidnap Peach if *Someone else* already did.
Regarding what happened to him at the end of The Super Mario Bros Movie...
I've started to wonder if he's okay. Not that he was before that, but I just can't help but feel bad for him after being shoved into a tiny cage, probably with very little contact with anyone besides the Toad guards. He probably misses his minions, and Bowser Jr if he does exist in the movie universe, which he probably does.
At this point I am fully convinced Bowser just likes to fight Mario and kidnaps the princess for funsies. He clearly doesn’t want Mario dead forever otherwise he wouldn’t hide one ups everywhere lol
I LOVE how a lot of the new games have been painting him as an anti-hero. Makes me wonder if they’re preparing to create a new villain to replace him or have Wart/Tatanga return to replace him as the series villain.
Bowser: I kidnapped the Princess and conquered the world and the galaxies and made them say my name
Also Bowser: want to go karting and sports, friends
I don't really want him to be a villain anymore. I like him being a redeemed villain like Piccolo or Vegeta. I've always found the princess kidnapping story not very likable. He can be a villain but at least give him some motivation that makes him morally grey like that stealing this ancient artifact could benefit his people.
Mario:.....we're still on for golf, right?
We’re still on for karting, right?
We’re still on for Tennis?
We're still on for the Olympic winter games?
We’re still on for the next M&L game right?
We're still on for the next Rabbids adventure, right?
You’re still coming to the party right?
We're still on for football, right?
We’re still on for baseball, right?
We're still on peach right 😏
Eggman is going sooo
🤣
I still can’t believe Mario plays tennis, goes karting, and has parties with the guy who kidnaps the princess
Peach is probably the one who invites him. As a diplomat, she realizes that every moment Bowser is messing around at a party or go-karting is a moment he isn’t planning anything against her kingdom.
And bowser goes along with it because he gets to spend time with peach without Mario trying to destroy him
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Peach might be some kind of politician !!! /s
Sounds like a line straight from Persona 3's Mass Destruction song, "keeping my friends close and my foes closer" it's a lyric from Mass Destruction FES

Party time?
He recovers of a split sec and just goes "oh yeah, absolutely. Now, where was i? I right, misery"
I wish Bowser was more of a threat now. One things that I liked about the Galaxy games is how Bowser felt like a powerful almost god-like being capable of taking over the known universe
I think Odyssey and Wonder strike a good middle ground between him still being a threat, but keeping the more cartoonish parts of his personality.
"I'm gonna take over the world...WITH STYLE!"
If they ever make a live-action mario movie, I hope they get Jack Black to play Bowser.
You know what? If ever we get a fully-voiced Mario game, Jack Black had BETTER step up to the Bowser role.
Why do I hear Persona music?
I think Odyssey especially did a good job at having Bowser have a presence throughout each kingdom. With him and the Broodals snagging a key aspect from each kingdom for his wedding. You also have got to love Bowser confronting you on a giant lightning dragon!
Feel like that worked for those games thematically and I would like to see that take on him again but it isnt a necessity for every entry
Toad Strikes Back does this very well
Yeah me to I wish he was more threatening to
Mario Galaxy committed so hard to being epic, with a totally straight face lol. It worked so well
I think in general Nintendo is kinda going in a less serious direction with the series in general look at Mario Wonder Bowser’s big thing that he was charging up for the entire game was a rock show that everyone would hear. I agree. Bowser was a bit too goofy in Super Mario Bros Wonder

I didn't realize that said cake at first
I'm playing the thousand year door remake and he feels so inconsistent, all the characters are terrified of him but he's constantly played off as a blubbering fool
That's the point! He has a menacing reputation as the King of the Koopas and is a genuine menace to most but the joke is that he is a big goofbsll
Yes, until when you actually have to fight him
he didn't give me much trouble when he jumped me in the glitz pit
Damn I want cake now.. chocolate marble cake.. 🤩
I’ll share half of my big piece of tuxedo cake with you.
Really thanks bro! I’d kill for some cake.. not really though
No prob.
🎂
He's kinda two faced and can't stop dying. I love him
Don’t forget that time he DIED, kept fighting as an undead skeleton, and then got resurrected by his son with a potion !
I think that was nsmb for the ds
Yes
I don't see him as much of a threat as he used to be, but hes a goofy villian
I can describe him as a villain with just one word: fun
He’s going thru the “king ddd” cycle where he started as a threat, has his moments of goofy, but generally just is in a slow spiral out of the main villain role into the side villain/antihero
I disagree bowser has always been seen as a threat even at his goofiest

His WHAT 🤨
Large commemorative pastry made for special events and celebrations.
Thank you. I lost my dictionary. Cheers among intellectuals!
Mind is so fucked can't even think about cake without thinking about balls and ass.
...balls and ass 💀
For real, smh
Bowser is at his peak when he is a threatening villian hell he’s even great in other roles like bowsers inside story, I don’t like how he’s becoming more of a joke now.
Yeah I can agree

The wa version of Bowser isn't evil then. Wabowser is probably just a guy
I love Bowser being a goofball, it helps make him memorable.
He’s the guy that nobody knows what to expect from. One day, he’s an evil conqueror, the next he wants to go kart racing.
Bowser is bipolar. 😂
he’s iconic, a good dad, clearly caring for his son. and i 100% picture him as a friend of mario’s when he’s not out kidnapping peach (see olympic games, mario kart, any mario sport game)
Yup I agree I love him
I love the big guy. A little too much according to my friends :,)
ANSWER ME THIS! HOW COME YOU GET THE PIZZA AND I GET THE CRUST?!- Apocalymon
He's a bad guy, he deserves to get his ass beat every game, but he's still my fave. I don't feel like cartoon villains need that much justification for liking them tbh, internet has made people really weird about fiction.
Yeah I can see that I do agree
I appreciate him still being the main villian for mainline Mario games but being a major anti-hero in the Spin-offs, not because he feels like being heroic but because if *he* can't Kidnap Peach if *Someone else* already did.
Bowser just wants Princess Peach’s cake in his mouth. Is that really so wrong?
He never got a piece of Peach's cake 😔
Regarding what happened to him at the end of The Super Mario Bros Movie... I've started to wonder if he's okay. Not that he was before that, but I just can't help but feel bad for him after being shoved into a tiny cage, probably with very little contact with anyone besides the Toad guards. Damn, Bowser never got Peach's Cake 😔(I need to get my mind out of the gutter)
We all know Bowser got her "cake" on more than one occasion. 🤣
why would she bake for him? he's a warlord?
At this point I am fully convinced Bowser just likes to fight Mario and kidnaps the princess for funsies. He clearly doesn’t want Mario dead forever otherwise he wouldn’t hide one ups everywhere lol
I love that depending on the game he's either genuinely evil and scary or completely hilarious.
I love bowser idk i just started to like him in mario odyssey and now my favorite character
Same
that last line feels so funny to look at now meme potential
He isn't like how he used to be as he is now in the newer games. He was definitely more powerful back the, but now it feels kind of exaggerated.
I disagree tbh. I feel like he was often MORE exaggerated back then. Especially in Mario RPG, Sunshine, Superstar Sega and Thousand Year Door
Bowser really does have huge cake 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 Bowser more like Buttser
He’s good now
Wait he said huge cake?
No wonder why he got so big
Might have read that wrong at first
I love him. He is my whole life. <3
Same :3
He likes cake
I LOVE how a lot of the new games have been painting him as an anti-hero. Makes me wonder if they’re preparing to create a new villain to replace him or have Wart/Tatanga return to replace him as the series villain.
It wouldn't feel the same.
… smash, next question
Lol yes
What are you talking about, Bowser never killed mario
Bro thinks he's in Portal
and no one ever saw his huge cake!
My huge cake... -bowser
Bowser: I kidnapped the Princess and conquered the world and the galaxies and made them say my name Also Bowser: want to go karting and sports, friends
Bowser: maybe I'll kidnap the other princesses to like Samus and paulutena
He was cool as fuck in Skylanders
He's hot
Ikr
His huge cake uwu
He is still my favorite character.
He peaked at inside story
Give the man his slice >:0
Aww okay I will
I don't really want him to be a villain anymore. I like him being a redeemed villain like Piccolo or Vegeta. I've always found the princess kidnapping story not very likable. He can be a villain but at least give him some motivation that makes him morally grey like that stealing this ancient artifact could benefit his people.
OMG 69 UPVOTES edit: no 69 upvote 😭
I kind of just want to wrap him in a blanket and smooch him a little 🥹
