Kill two birds, with one stone.
Get a split spacebar ortho, and layer the numpad over the right hand alphas.
That is the one change that literally transformed keyboarding for me.
Just be forewarned, if you make that transition, you run the risk of rendering everything else out there "less than acceptable".
As a teaser, here's an experiment in efficiency for you.
Pick a random address, and see how many times you have to move a finger more than one key away from its home position, to type that address.
On my orthos, with US addresses, the answer to that question is ZERO.
Yes, you do.
Displaying your keyboards at that angle will ensure a dusting session that would drive the world's most accommodating housekeeper to entirely justified violence.
Iām considering options how to store/display the few keyboards I have. I know dust is an issue. Any good ideas? Just shelves and make sure all the keebs have a shelf above them?
Any space that's open to the room will accrue dust. I'd get plastic or polycarbonate covers if you're going to display them openly. I just keep them all in their original boxes in my closet, except for the two or three I'm actively using.
No I totally understand, I've only been in this hobby for a couple of months now and honestly didn't expect to get to the point I'm at now. I definitely want to grab some premium boards and grow my collection. If you wouldn't move sharing yours I'd love to see what you have
Oh boy, couple months and there's 6 boards! They are all great starter options, but I'd recommend reserve some spot for your 4th to 6th boards for the ones you really, really, want once you are a year or two into the hobby.
I had just 2 boards (GK68X which I still keep for sentimental reasons till this day, and an ID67 v1) when i was 3 to 4 months in, back in 2021
Take it slow and enjoy the ride, and glad to see you're enjoying all of then equally!
In saying that itās been 8 months, I didnāt even realise š¤£ time just flew by and yes I 100% agree with you. Been looking at some GB recently but I havenāt decided anything just yet
Been into keebs since October 2022 and I have two mode sonnets, two Zoom TKLs, a GMMK Pro w āflex kitā, a Momoka Zoo65, and I just ordered a Chimera 65 R2. That one I really cannot wait for! I really need to stop but I canāt lol fortunately I can afford it, but stillā¦ I donāt need this many keebs (or switches/keycaps for that matter lol)! Make it stop!
KBDFans and Drop don't have the best quality control. Also, their boards are basically OEMs of custom keyboard world. I would suggest getting something from MODE instead of KBDFans.
Super curious with this comment, can you elaborate please? Is it because the difference in overall quality between the budget boards is negligible that at a point it becomes more cost-effective to buy one premium board for example, as opposed to two/three budgets?
Sure. So the boards he listed are: GMMK Pro, Akko Mod 006, KDB67 Lite, Keychron Q2, and Tiger 80 Lite. All of them are considered to be entry level boards. GMMK, Akko, and Keychron are straight up OEM-tier boards. If someone has one entry level board, then it's fine. But so many entry level boards are honestly a waste of money. He could have saved up that money, and instead gotten something that looks, feels and sounds better, with a lot better QC. A MODE Sonnet, for example, starts at $300. A Frog Mini is about $340 with PCB. The Arc 60 is within $300 with two PCBs. All these boards are a lot more premium than the ones he has.
Also, all of the boards he has mentioned are gasket mounts. He says he is new to the hobby, and has only experienced gasket mounted boards stuffed with foam. That is a very one-dimensional experience. The point of the hobby is to experience different mounts. Maybe try a gummy o-ring mount, or a top mount. The point is, he has spent so much money on keyboards, but he still hasn't experienced what a good custom keyboard is.
As I mentioned before I to intend to dive deeper into the hobby and experience/experiment with different mounting styles and all that jazz. I guess I didnāt look it at like that from that perspective so even tho your comment may be a tad passive aggressive haha, I actually appreciate it. Thank you.
Maybe thats the point of the hobby for you, but plenty of folks enjoy light modding and collecting the fun looking, affordable boards.
People are going to be deeper into hobbies than others and that's okay. Sometimes getting too far into it makes it feel like a chore, and that threshold is different for everyone. Or maybe this person already knows they dont like those other mounts.
Not to mention, it can take multiple entry level boards to figure out what you want from an expensive one!
> The point of the hobby is to experience different mounts.
Haha, wtf? Yeah, because different mounting systems surely create insane variety for the same MX-based switches that are either linear or tactile because MX clicky switches are all crap.
The point of the hobby is to enjoy keyboards. If the guy enjoys his keyboards he's experiencing the full meaning and point of the hobby.
Havenāt dived into those kinds of boards yet, some i definitely and some I wonāt. I might possibly give the ones I donāt like a try but we shall see
Itās actually quite nice, the distance and angled typing felt more natural for me. Gaming is great too, no problems. The additional space bar allows you to bind one of them as the backspace, giving you super easy access to delete letters without moving off the home row. The extra B key on some boards gives you an extra key for binding random stuff.
I run a few cheap boards, boards of note include the Freebird60, Maja V2, and the incoming QK75.
Rather than many boards, I want different types of board. Looking at the Iris65 for split, and considering maybe grabbing a Keychron split board. Also looking for a good 40% hotswap board.
What keyboard is this? Ive never built one and dont know anything about them, but I love the volume knob on the right and would love a keyboard with thay attatched.
If you look the comments my friend I wrote out all the specs of the board going from left to right if that helps.
The 2 board with knobs are the GMMK Pro on the top left and the one on the middle right is a Keychron Q2. Both of those are entry level boards
I'm really sorry, I'm commenting on the completely wrong post. There was a post above this one I was meant to click on. Thank you so much for the quick replies though!
No just an addiction. I don't think its problematic unless you are breaking the bank trying to build keyboards. If you can afford it I think its a great hobby!
mate, consider this, some are car people, some are bike people or any other hobby really, and ur hobby is builsing keyboards and collecting them. unless it heavily impacts your financial well-being it is probably fine, i would even argue it has less impact on the environment to most other peoples hobbies.
It gets a lot worse. I've been parting my collection (public & private listings), some of them at loss, and I've still clawed back 20K. I'm still not done selling, lol. It's time that I retire from the hobby for now, but I really do hope you enjoy it! A lot of cool concepts, designs, projects, and unique boards that come out all the time. My lesson to people is to never feel FOMO with boards, they always come around and will remain on the market. Still regularly see 5-6 year old boards hit the market.
Wow thatās incredible and thank you for the kind words. I do definitely agree with you that FOMO is definitely a thing in this hobby and I personally even have felt it but youāre absolutely right!
Now looking back yes and no, Iāve been thinking about selling certain ones and or taking certain parts out to keep for other builds but at the same time itās collection and now that Iāve experienced enough of different things Iām going to picking up more premium boards at a slower rate.
Nah there are 3 hooks below it that hold it in place itās sort of sits snug between everything. I have tested and the hooks alone hold it in place so yeah itās all good
Board specs from left to right:
GMMK Pro, Allu plate, Glorious Lynx switches lubed with 205g0, TX Stabs with BDZ on the wires and 205g0 for the housings, Black Ash Glorious caps
Akko Mod 006, PC plate, tape mod (3 layers) poron gaskets included with board, CS Crystal switches which are currently stock but will be lubed with 205g0, TX Stabs with BDZ on the wires and 205g0 for the housings, GMK Katakana caps
KDB67 Lite, PC plate, all foams included, BobaU4Ts lubed with 204g0, Stock stabs from kit lubed with 205g0, GMK Red Samurai caps
Keychron Q2, Steel plate, tape mod (1 layer) force break mod, Glorious Fox switches lubed with 205g0, and GMK Dualshot 2 caps (no stabs currently in the board, got a set of TX AP stabs on the way which will be lubed the exact same way as the others
Stock white Kit Adam, just google board please haha
Tiger 80 Lite, PC plate, all foams, included kdbfans tape mod, Milky Yellows (Black bottom housing) Clear 2048 purple caps
All switch springs were lubed with 105 oil
If you guys have any questions feel free to drop the down below incase I'm dumb and I forgot something, Thanks
You should try getting 3d printed hooks, the ikea ones have quite the bad angle and tolerances for heavy boards
But no you arenāt alone
https://preview.redd.it/17s393tuoexa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd94465ce3ce8f1ea80396c7322cbbfa7894afec
Wow I love your boards, yeah I wanted the other hooks but they donāt ship here from Etsy and I didnāt know anyone that could 3d print but recently I have a friend that is able to do it so maybe I should ask him š§
Haha thanks, Iām going 60% and below only so three of the boards here are going but will take a pic when I receive the next board to fill the pegboard again
Edit : HHKB only too with one exception
Maybe 5 for now š¤
You need at least one long boi to diversify your collection!
Then some \~40s too! That's my next step too
https://preview.redd.it/bc3x8teyhexa1.jpeg?width=2727&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d7cecdf3117a1ac84f4bffe31accd42b8925d34
Yeah, 6 similar sized boards, but I was thinking the full size will take so much more space that you can only fit 5 unless you get some 30-40% or num/macropad next to it ;)
That would be perfect for me i like tactile switches. I have ordered keychron k pro mint switches, they are in transit will receive them today or tomorrow ā¤ļø
Sorry for the late update
Got switches yesterday put them on my keyboard. These switches are nearly perfect for me, light tactile bump with heavy spring. I said Nearly perfect because tactile bump is too light for me, if it were a little heavy/tactily then this would have been perfect switches for me
I don't have much experience with lubed switches as i am new to the keyboard world, but i liked this pre lubed switches so for
I see one problem: no orthos. Although that's an even bigger rabbit hole to go down.
Seriously though ... do yourself a favor and stop while you're still young! This addiction only ends in bankruptcy. ^(kinda /s but kinda not)
Do you have a problem?
Only if you want to...
As for the set up, I have a few boards displayed and lots of key caps and switches on display in jars so sure...
This begs the question of āwhen does a hobby become a problem?ā
My thought: When you canāt meet your basic financial and emotional needs because of your hobby.
beware of the hypno keys!

A massive problem. There's too much free space š
Iām working on it š¤£š¤£
Damn... beat me to this.
Damn you beat me to saying you beat me to it.
Same.
Yes. You don't appear to have any num pads.
Hmm been considering one
Kill two birds, with one stone. Get a split spacebar ortho, and layer the numpad over the right hand alphas. That is the one change that literally transformed keyboarding for me. Luckily Iām all sorted in that department and she also wants a custom, lucky me š¤£

HAHAHAHA unfortunately itās just the hooks, some unfortunately are bent and need tweaking
I also naturally keep this room pretty clean so it wonāt be an issue for me but I understand the concern
If it makes you happy, it makes you happy, but personally, I'd rather have a premium board instead of Akko, KBDFans and GMMKs.
No I totally understand, I've only been in this hobby for a couple of months now and honestly didn't expect to get to the point I'm at now. I definitely want to grab some premium boards and grow my collection. If you wouldn't move sharing yours I'd love to see what you have

what's wrong with KBDfans? The Tiger80 or the Tiger80 lite is great
Its fine to have one, but having that many budget boards its kinda redundant, could just save up and buy a high end board.
Iām enjoying them
KBDFans and Drop don't have the best quality control. Also, their boards are basically OEMs of custom keyboard world. I would suggest getting something from MODE instead of KBDFans.

Yes you have an issue. No Ortholinear or columnar keyboards!
Hey now maybe in the future, havenāt explored into that real just yet
Your only problem is your lack of variety. Where is your split? Your Alice? Your 40%? Ortholinear?
Havenāt dived into those kinds of boards yet, some i definitely and some I wonāt. I might possibly give the ones I donāt like a try but we shall see
Alice was easy to adapt for me, but I can see 40% and ortho being hard for me. Still want an ortho 40% and split.
Yeah Iāve gathered enough experience I feel to explore more into outside the norm and Iām excited to try it out
Whatās it like on an Alice, easier to type on for you or?
Itās actually quite nice, the distance and angled typing felt more natural for me. Gaming is great too, no problems. The additional space bar allows you to bind one of them as the backspace, giving you super easy access to delete letters without moving off the home row. The extra B key on some boards gives you an extra key for binding random stuff.
Oh wow super interesting, Iām excited to eventually get my hands on one
I have the Vulcan x KBDfans Maja V2, but there are cheap options out there like the Keychron Q10 and V10. Maybe go for them first?
Yeah I was actually about to ask you what board you have so thank you very much
I run a few cheap boards, boards of note include the Freebird60, Maja V2, and the incoming QK75. Rather than many boards, I want different types of board. Looking at the Iris65 for split, and considering maybe grabbing a Keychron split board. Also looking for a good 40% hotswap board.

That is a Lego keyboard, just Google Kit Adam and youāll find it. Itās made by kdbcraft
I'm really sorry, I'm commenting on the completely wrong post. There was a post above this one I was meant to click on. Thank you so much for the quick replies though!
ššš¤£itās ok donāt stress
And if you have any other comments just drop them here or pm me, Iām happy to help
Yeah I do see a pretty big problem buddy. NOT ENOUGH KEYBOARDS
No just an addiction. I don't think its problematic unless you are breaking the bank trying to build keyboards. If you can afford it I think its a great hobby!
Addiction I agree with and no Iām taking my time and being as responsible as I can š¤£
There ya go! Dopamine rush every time you complete a new keyboard! I do hate the process of lubing though..
Stabs I donāt mind, switches are a time consuming but rewarding process
Yes i do agree, as painful as it is.. once youre done and hear how good the keyboard sounds theres nothing but satisfaction
yeah, you obviously do we all do its why were here
Do you have a ticket for ~~Keyboard addict anonymous~~ a Keyboard meet?
The only problem I see is no 40% boards. š
No...t yet
That looks like a solution to me!
You have money. And a passion. Don't let anybody tell you any different.
We all do š
No you have a hobby. (At least youāre not an audiophile)
š¤£š¤£ I canāt even imagine what thatās like
Im not an audiophile myself but i heard some atrocious things.
mate, consider this, some are car people, some are bike people or any other hobby really, and ur hobby is builsing keyboards and collecting them. unless it heavily impacts your financial well-being it is probably fine, i would even argue it has less impact on the environment to most other peoples hobbies.
Haha the title is a meme but I 100% agree with you
oh mb, then in the spirit of the post i would say: not enough
Need more more variety. Go for an alice shape next.
Said to a few others but I definitely want to explore that for sure
Worryingly it looks like no one has noticed enter and shift are in the wrong place on your Q2ā¦
Definitely didnāt just go and fix it, luckily that board is out of action until my stabs arrive so no biggie š¤£
Hey uhhhhhh your enter and shift are swapped on the q2
Definitely didnāt just go and fix it, luckily that board is out of action until my stabs arrive so no biggie š¤£
LOL iām happy i caught one for ya! Which stabs did you get?
Waiting on those TX AP stabs
Multiply it by two and let's talk

Very beautiful
love the zombies posters (love zombies myself) but ur everything i aspire to be (also slowly growing my keeb army)
Ty my friend
Top one is actually a puzzle. 1000 damn pieces
A big problem. Posters instead of keyboards
š¤£š¤£ posters were up before I was in the hobby sadly
I see that you are lacking more keyboards, where did you get your switch containers from btw?
IKEA, skadis collection
Are all of them budget boards?
Um yeah pretty much. Going to start venturing in the more premium boards
Do you ever feel like you couldāve bought 1-2 premium boards, instead of all the budget ones?
Now looking back yes and no, Iāve been thinking about selling certain ones and or taking certain parts out to keep for other builds but at the same time itās collection and now that Iāve experienced enough of different things Iām going to picking up more premium boards at a slower rate.
Is your lubestation only Held up by that screwdriver?
Nah there are 3 hooks below it that hold it in place itās sort of sits snug between everything. I have tested and the hooks alone hold it in place so yeah itās all good
Yeah saw the hooks just thought it would fall over without the screwdriver
Board specs from left to right: GMMK Pro, Allu plate, Glorious Lynx switches lubed with 205g0, TX Stabs with BDZ on the wires and 205g0 for the housings, Black Ash Glorious caps Akko Mod 006, PC plate, tape mod (3 layers) poron gaskets included with board, CS Crystal switches which are currently stock but will be lubed with 205g0, TX Stabs with BDZ on the wires and 205g0 for the housings, GMK Katakana caps KDB67 Lite, PC plate, all foams included, BobaU4Ts lubed with 204g0, Stock stabs from kit lubed with 205g0, GMK Red Samurai caps Keychron Q2, Steel plate, tape mod (1 layer) force break mod, Glorious Fox switches lubed with 205g0, and GMK Dualshot 2 caps (no stabs currently in the board, got a set of TX AP stabs on the way which will be lubed the exact same way as the others Stock white Kit Adam, just google board please haha Tiger 80 Lite, PC plate, all foams, included kdbfans tape mod, Milky Yellows (Black bottom housing) Clear 2048 purple caps All switch springs were lubed with 105 oil If you guys have any questions feel free to drop the down below incase I'm dumb and I forgot something, Thanks
I see zero problems and six solutions.
My favourite comment so far š
The only problem i see is too little space for all the keyboards you are going to buy over the next few years. You are going to need more Skadis ^ ^
Please donāt say that š¤£š¤£š¤£
You're doomed. One of us. One of us. One of us. One of us..
If thereās one cult Iād be a part of, itās this one. Beautiful but scary
Hi Iām newcollection41##, and Iām an addict
š¤£š¤£šš«”
Yes you do - at least 25% of that pegboard space is utterly wasted. Go buy more keyboardsā¦
IM WORKING ON IT š¤£š¤£
You should try getting 3d printed hooks, the ikea ones have quite the bad angle and tolerances for heavy boards But no you arenāt alone https://preview.redd.it/17s393tuoexa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd94465ce3ce8f1ea80396c7322cbbfa7894afec
Wow I love your boards, yeah I wanted the other hooks but they donāt ship here from Etsy and I didnāt know anyone that could 3d print but recently I have a friend that is able to do it so maybe I should ask him š§
Haha thanks, Iām going 60% and below only so three of the boards here are going but will take a pic when I receive the next board to fill the pegboard again Edit : HHKB only too with one exception
Very nice! can't wait to see
Where did you get the hooks from?
IKEA, Skadis
I meant the plastic 3D printed ones
Oh hahaha, theyāre from Etsy. At least thatās where Iāve seen them
3d printed by my mom, will go fetch the link and edit it in the message after I eat
i like your baby mode lol
No, what you have is $$$ and $$$ to spare. Congrats, I just got into this world
Most boards are decently priced. It has been a 8 month process I believe. Trust me. Take your time and enjoy it š
You might but it looks to me like youāve got a number of attempted solutions there. Keep trying!
Thanks man, Iām trying my best š«”
Yes, I see a problem. There is a big empty space which you can fill with 4 keyboards.
And yes I agree, Iām working on it š
6 keyboards* š
Maybe 5 for now š¤ You need at least one long boi to diversify your collection! Then some \~40s too! That's my next step too https://preview.redd.it/bc3x8teyhexa1.jpeg?width=2727&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d7cecdf3117a1ac84f4bffe31accd42b8925d34
I do plan for a full-size build for work/to extend collection and I have considered a 40s as well. Thank you for the photos, love the builds
And the 6 keyboard comment was in relation to how many can fit on the pegboard on the right
Yeah, 6 similar sized boards, but I was thinking the full size will take so much more space that you can only fit 5 unless you get some 30-40% or num/macropad next to it ;)
Yes I see a big problem, but all your problems will go away once you gift me one of your keyboard
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ take your pick š
The one which has red samurai keycaps. I really love those keycaps I want them for my keebs but they are costly š„¶
That would be my KDB67 Lite currently with boba u4ts and the keycaps are GMK Red Samurai and yes this hobby is pricy at times
That would be perfect for me i like tactile switches. I have ordered keychron k pro mint switches, they are in transit will receive them today or tomorrow ā¤ļø
Very nice! The board to the right is actually a Keychron Q2 but let me know how those switches are
Sorry for the late update Got switches yesterday put them on my keyboard. These switches are nearly perfect for me, light tactile bump with heavy spring. I said Nearly perfect because tactile bump is too light for me, if it were a little heavy/tactily then this would have been perfect switches for me I don't have much experience with lubed switches as i am new to the keyboard world, but i liked this pre lubed switches so for
Yeah the bobas are very good pre lubed but I went ahead and lubed them and theyāre great
I didn't buy boba i got keychron k pro mint switches
Oh ok nice, Iāve never tried them
what are the boards?
I'm currently writing out specs, bear with me xD I will make a top comment on the post with all the boards specs so incase anyone else is wondering

It's bad but I'm enjoying the road so far xD
Keyboards and cod zombies, 2 of my favourite things!
You sir, are a man of culture
Very stylized, love the look of them all.
Thank you!
yeah, the lower right panel is empty
Yeah for now the right board is empty. Give me time š
yes u made it easy for a burglar to take your prized possessions
2nd best comment Iāve seen š¤£
Yes
I think you know

My friend, everything you see is from IKEA, itās called skadis and all the accessories are also skadis branded
Not yet. Looks like you may be developing one though! I'm at 55 keyboards and counting š
Holy moly
I know right. I thought about the MOD006 for ages. It's been on sale on Akko forever. It's nice eh?
I have the Clear 2048 purple keycaps and I love them! They look good on your board.
Which store is it?
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
yup, need more hooks
Brother where š¤£ both pegboards are full š¤£
:). Had to zoom (on mobile). Should have said you still have empty space!
Yes that I do and all good haha
That's a nice Skadis you've got there... Still trying to find a better method of holding my split boards, the hooks sadly don't do the job.
Damn got me worried for when I eventually dive into that
Itās not a problem itās an āØaddiction āØ
I love seeing others with the Adam kit!
Why you need so much 75s if TKL have same size? š
Why you need so much 75s if TKL have same size? š
There are worse problems out there...for instance I'm now getting into split, ortho, and ergo builds after my 7th "standard" built boards...
No, the problem is wanting cool keyboards. You, my friend, have the solution
Looks more like a (storage) solution to me.
I need you to come organize my game room.
I donāt see the problem
I see one problem: no orthos. Although that's an even bigger rabbit hole to go down. Seriously though ... do yourself a favor and stop while you're still young! This addiction only ends in bankruptcy. ^(kinda /s but kinda not)
Is this a serious question?
Do you have a problem? Only if you want to... As for the set up, I have a few boards displayed and lots of key caps and switches on display in jars so sure...
No. You have money.
Yes. You don't have enough keyboards
If you have a problem, then I think over half of us here have a problem, Iām currently on my 9thā¦
Yes, none of your switch containers are full, and I see no boards that cost 2 kidneys and your firstborn child. You still have some work to do.

If youāre referring to the purple board top right, that is GMK WOB Katakana
This begs the question of āwhen does a hobby become a problem?ā My thought: When you canāt meet your basic financial and emotional needs because of your hobby.
* No you really don't though, too much empty space
