YOU KNOW OF THE BOX?!?! I’ve only met one person in real life who remembers The Box.
Remember the day after Tu Pac died, and they just had Dear Mama on a loop? 😔
I wish I could watch hours of the box just like we used to.
I remember the girl rock band called Kitty & they scared me.
Also “He’s my best friend best of all best friends do you have a best friend too?!”

Omg please click that & tell me you remember this era!
Yeah that Eiffel 65 song was like a defining moment in my life too.
I had to get a blue lava lamp because the song. & I turned the lamp on without the thing on it & looked straight at it with my eyeball & my eye has never been the same since.
Cool story. <3
Yes! 89' baby here. Listening to and watching music videos on TV was the standard routine for me when getting ready for school, eating breakfast, and after school. Music TV channels was how I kept up with the lastest music and also discovered music from the past. As a kid I loved the VH1 Pop-Up Video series.
Similar but different; I had a little TV in my bedroom that had a radio function built in and I would fall asleep listening to the radio at night. I’d set the TV’s self turn off timer for an hour or so and turn it way down and listen to the music as I fell asleep. I was also able to discover lots of music that I would remember for later to go download on limewire lmao
I was always a bigger fan of VH1 growing up. Loved Behind the Music, Popup Video, Where Are They Now? (helped me find the first college I went to!), all the 80s nostalgia shows. There was some show on in the early morning before school that aired that I can't remember the name of. It was set-up like Bloomberg news where they would show random info on text on screen while a music video played. Definitely aired in 1997 because I remember Semi-Charmed Life- Third Eye Blind was on every day. Anyone remember the name of this?
I’m going to sound old, but I am getting old.
“The Box”
Had to move the bunny years around to catch a static picture of the latest videos.
Who remembers that?!
96’ baby here back in the early 2000s in 2003 when I was seven I remember my Gen X mom and my older millennial aunt always turn on the tv just to change the channel to MTV just for simply to watch and listen to music videos.
I remember vividly one of the music videos way back such as the Backstreet Boys “Bye Bye” and it’s “Gonna be May” videos and a music video about Evanescence “Bring me to Life” Both my Mom and my aunt were huge fans of NYsnc and the Backstreet Boys back then.
I believe those were the 500's channels I was referring too.
Because you are describing the music channels I remember being used a lot and I swear they started in the 500's of the channels...
Pretty much how Sirius radio is now. 501 was the top hits and then each channel got more genre specific after that.
This is emblematic of the evolution of music itself. At that time music consumption was an activity in itself. With the rise of personal listening equipment (walkman being the pioneer, followed by portable MP3 players, ipod and mobile phones) listening to music became an accompaniment, to be consumed while doing other things. Shows in the kind of music we had say pre 2000s or even upto the mid 2000s on one hand, and the kind of mainstream music we have post 2010.
Yes! I miss all the videos and I loved pop-up video lol. I also miss more live music/I still go on YouTube and pull up live shows to recreate the feeling some days…maybe I will after work, it’s pretty nice and I could open the windows up too
Do ya'll remember in like the 2000s, when we first got cable that was like 1000s of channels (most of them utter shit), but they had the music only stations all at the end in like the 1000s/2000s?? Just a shitty graphic on the screen and a playlist. Sort of like pandora but for a TV.
What a weird time it was.
I used to watch The Box back in the day. Then MTV 2 bought them out. That's one thing I miss from the 90s, music videos and live performances.
The Box!!!! This was how I watched music videos when we didn't have cable.
YOU KNOW OF THE BOX?!?! I’ve only met one person in real life who remembers The Box. Remember the day after Tu Pac died, and they just had Dear Mama on a loop? 😔
The box was my shit! ... because we were too poor for cable!
Cable really had us by the balls back then.
I wish I could watch hours of the box just like we used to. I remember the girl rock band called Kitty & they scared me. Yes I do remember that! The late 90's techno pop era was pretty fresh and futuristic!
Yeah that Eiffel 65 song was like a defining moment in my life too. I had to get a blue lava lamp because the song. & I turned the lamp on without the thing on it & looked straight at it with my eyeball & my eye has never been the same since. Cool story. <3
I'm Blue brings back so many memories! Lol I used to go to Spencer's as a teen back then and just browse all of the cool lava lamps.
What happened to the "Unplugged's"???? Tiny Desk YouTube channel is somehting that brings me some nostalgic vibes from that Era
Unplugged were amazing! Tiny Desk is very good too, I always look forward to those.
I love when it's a Rap/Hip hop/ or and R&B artist, that music in a live band version is sometimes a lot better than the original version.
Agreed! Scarface and Juvenile's Tiny Desk are great ones especially.
Mtv was the shiz back then

VH1 was where it was at ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
As a kid in the early 90s for sure
MTV, VH1 then they slowly got taken over by reality tv but so did other channels

I wish my TV did that now lol that sounds like good times

I liked older music so I had options hahaha
Kinda? I still think radio was up there. TV has music videos which were cool. Many folks also had cassette tapes or vinyls
MTV was great in the early 90s and head bangers ball late night. CMT was good, TNN actually used to have line dancing back in the day, lol

I’d watch the crazy in love music video constantly as a….growing boy
As a..... growing boy. Music videos were sources for a lot of growing lol
My parents' TV is basically always turned to a music channel. But not a TV station about musicians, the channels that just play music.
I believe those were the 500's channels I was referring too. Because you are describing the music channels I remember being used a lot and I swear they started in the 500's of the channels... I had MTV and VH1 in constant rotation for at least 5 years.
Yeah I forgot to mention VH1 but definitely was in there. Q

Ok
Born in 86 and never used the TV for music. Too many commercials.
We did this some. Not all the time. But man do I miss entry level cost TVs with good speakers.

Music channels in the morning were so great. Used to throw on CMT or MTV for the morning top 10s when I was cleaning hotel rooms. Was good.
Pop up video was awesome.
Fuse.
I still use YouTube for music on the TV.
Funnily enough, casting Spotify of YT music to the TV is the primary mode of listening in my house.

What, you aren’t rocking out to reruns of Ridiculousness?
Unplugged, Headbangers’ Ball, Pop-up Video, and 120 minutes
Of course, I do. This is kind of how I ended up with the music taste I have today.
Never had cable, so no.
Not for me or the other kids who didn’t have cable.
