RC was really not in a good place and I think from some of the stories that have been told and things that were published that they had a great relationship, almost like RC tried to help Dale Jr with stuff a father would do for a twenty something man.
The last time that happened was in the mid 2010's and it only happened because they needed people to keep the 3 car up in owners points for when Ty Dillon would drive it

The font itself isn’t trademarked. You can download the Microgramma font for free from any font website. What’s trademarked is the exact design, which for the 8 is the number with the outline and the drop shadow.

And its use on a race car or use on racing-related merchandise. RCR couldn’t just use a single-outlined 8 in microgramma and get away with it, or they would have. Teresa held the rights to that number in that font for all racing related purposes, no matter the outline/shadow situation.
You can find versions of microgramma all over. You can find versions of the microgramma 8 all over. But the microgramma 8 (specifically the 8. Not 58. Not 84. Not 86571. Just 8) on a race car belonged to her, and anyone else using it in that context could be sued, whether they used 1 outline, 3 outlines, a shadow, or no outline at all.
I kind of doubt that Jr. lets Kyle run it. He was saying recently that he is fine with Austin Dillon using the #3 but wishes RCR had used a different font because he can’t tell who apart Earnhardt gear from Dillon gear and that it bums him out.

Well it certainly looks like a contemporary late model font thats for sure, but it looks way too overdesigned when most Cup series fonts are based off designs from the 80s and 90s lol.

He came over to DEI in 1998 and that was the only Cup car at the time. Dale swapped the number with Richard Jackson (Jackson Bros Motorsports, former Skoal and Hooters car with Rick Mast) while DEI sent over the 14 number. Steve Park was originally supposed to be the 14 until the switch last minute in the year but that was the number Ty worked with in 1998 until he got fired by Teresa. I think it’s anything to make sure he doesn’t use a thing with a potential 1 car throwback with the right fonts again so she can profit off of that, had Trackhouse been say the 42 and 99, I doubt it would be much issue and the 1 number would be free for whatever.
Additionally, when Chastain and Suárez ran the Coca-Cola throwbacks last year, Chastain’s car originally had the standard DEI 1, but they were forced to add the Trackhouse slash to the number by the time the race came on Sunday.
Ty was a DEI employee who often clashed with ownership after Senior passed. He now currently has an executive position with Trackhouse.
While Trackhouse would probably continue to run the "Trackhouse Font" (with the slash through the numbers) they'd be in perfect position to do a throwback to the numerous DEI/Ganassi 1 cars (fitting since DEI merged with CGR). Any Steve Park/DW Pennzoil throwback is on the table if the 1 gets released.
I think I probably speak for most Kyle Busch fans when I say no. The current 8 font is Kyle's, when you see it you think of him. The traditional 8 is Dale's, it will always be associated with him.
