Surely this will be the biggest piece of Nascar news in the next 4 minutes

DistanceRight1039

Bob has SHR died yet or nah

US_Highway15

It just did

MartinPch

Lmao I love how this was the only thing we cared for the entirety of the day and now it just happened and we're all just left there like "huh...so it's really happening eh?" Like bro I don't even know what to say it's actually happening 😭😭

US_Highway15

Well Iowa, you were fun while it lasted...

Origin240sx

I will hold my judgement. But I can’t imagine this is a good thing at all. Wish we had atleast one race with the old pavement

JesusSandals73

The issue was the track started to come apart on the bumps. It would have like Atlanta its last race before the repave.

BeefInGR

Once again, r/nascar melts down without looking for additional information.

libsoutherner

Wtf was the point of that? The racing will be terrible. No reason to go above the new pavement.

US_Highway15

Apparently there were too many bumps, and it wasn't gonna work well for when Indycar races.

joshjarnagin

Indycar hasn’t had any problems the last 2 years. It can’t be any worse this year

gasmask11000

Indycar drivers have complained about significant back pain from Iowa

US_Highway15

Them Indycar drivers aren't real men (sarcasm)

hurtful_pillow

In Iowa, it can. We swing wild in our highs and lows, and water freezing in the pavement before it can drain off is almost explosive.

BeefInGR

Reports were the track was starting to come apart.

SmuFF1186

I don't even know what the hell they did: https://x.com/StartAndParkCar/status/1795599611316572296 Bottom lane looks concrete? 2nd lane full repaved in asphalt, 3rd lane half repaved in asphalt?

thesedays1234

Repave the whole damn track then what idiotic move is this? NASCAR goes to multi groove short track and immediately makes it single groove with a repave? WTF. This is gonna be REALLY bad. Especially turns 1-2, the top is so bumpy there's no way there can be a high line. 3-4 everyone is still gonna wanna run the repaved part to save tires. Jesus NASCAR what is this move?

Pummu

Yeah , repave the whole track. It’s just going to be single file on the bottom by repaving only the inside lines like tf , won’t be suprised if the cup race sucks ass on what could have been one of the only good short tracks that work with tbe current cup car

anxiousauditor

Finally gets a Cup race at Iowa, is immediately replaced. :-/

[deleted]

I swear it feels like they purposefully want the racing to be as bad as possible

GarageguyEve

Local rumor is they had to redo it twice too. There was a Nascar rep on site as it was going down and they were ok with how the pore was going. There was a brake in work, and a different two was sent out when they started back up and he wasn't having any of it and had them start over.

Zodiac4v2

Should have used concrete.

Chemical_Pickle5004

Damn, it rained so hard it repaved the track?

The__Farmer

Was this even necessary????

hurtful_pillow

So they stealth paved half a track within viewing distance of one of the major travel arteries across the US? How was this not reported until it becomes the most buried story to break in a day due to the SHR implosion?

PizzaReady4Departure

I’ve seen some half assed repaves but this.. this takes the cake

SmuFF1186

Are you freaking kidding me? The outside line will be 100% irrelevant. Whole thing needed to be repaved if anything needed to be repaved. Have we not learned that you can't just put patches of fresh asphalt in the turns yet? It will ALWAYS be the dominant groove(s).

SlicksterRick

Dude, even if they repaved the whole thing it was still gonna have dominant grooves…

Madturtl3

Iowa being multi-groove was literally its selling point.

SlicksterRick

Yes, but multi-groove tracks don’t stay multi-groove after repaves unless configuration is changed to account for the new surface

mattf19

Um...why?
