Been at the track all week. The racing in the arca and Xfinity race have been awesome. Hopefully the cup series puts on a great show tomorrow and everyone sees Iowa should have been on the schedule a decade ago
Not just for her, either
It's shocking how many of them have been brought up with these double file restarts their entire careers, and yet are so horrendous at them
Like it's like looking at Jeff and Mark when NASCAR made the change
He's one of Toyota's top prospects and has starts in all 3 main series this year. I'd say it's just a matter of time before he's a full time cup driver
Very compelling race due to the tires being potential time bombs.
Mayer with a deserved win. Felt he was one of the best all day.
Big shouts to Matty D and Daniel Dye both bringing home Top 10s.
Heim Time brings it home in 3rd
WTF got into JGR today? Their drivers were all over each other.
Deegan car still junk?
At the race- The 15 was straight ass today, and she was giving the car all it would take. She ran the last three cars all day and if she drove any harder the car would just look like it was tankslapping. Scanner audio was very sad as she kept giving feedback and eventually her and the spotter sounded massively dejected.
So what happened? Moffitt was average in this car last year and I know he is more talented, but the drop off in that car from last year to this year is incredible.
You gotta realize that Moffit is a top 25 driver in NASCAR on talent. Not enough money and difficult to work with but on talent alone he should be in a cup car every single week.
That's why you don't wanna follow Moffit at any team, you'll look like a clown.
Moffitt should have never left Cup based on talent; but he’s apparently not a great coworker and doesn’t bring money to the table. It’s not a surprise he outran Hailie. I’m not sure what she needs at this point, but whatever it is, she needs a lot of it. Laps, crew chiefs, teammates, who knows?
Listening today she was giving really good feedback, but some of it is just an overall feel/skill. Time will tell if it develops into something. I want her to succeed, but time is running out.
Today I was concerned because that team has no notes, but Brett Moffitt carried that team on his back to a massive scale and Deegan is a rookie that needs a good foundation under her. After lap 15 the goal became to run as many laps as possible and bring the car home in one piece.
Watched it live in person, what a crowd! I love full stands, and this was a packed xfinity race. Lots of good battlin’, and even though Chandler got eated by the restart monster, Mayer did have the best car.
Awesome! I've heard great things about the Indy races at Iowa. Apparently Hy-Vee activates like crazy. Good for them. Iowa has some beautiful spots. Glad to hear someone enjoyed it.
Hy-Vee is smothered all over the track and they had a couple of booths setup for talking to customers.
The facility at Iowa is very solid, and I just love seeing seas of parked cars over the rolling hills
If it’s empty it’s because people are grabbing more beer
I’ve been there plenty of times and every time the announcers tell the fans to get back to their seats for the start, including the luxury box seats
I doubt it as I feel like with the full practice teams should have an idea of what they can run. In the past there was uncertainty cause teams were limited in their run lengths and this week they had the option to figure it out.
Can anyone speak to what VIP/Infield pass experience was like today? Trying my best to avoid any major hiccups tomorrow. I'm not going to be able to sleep!!!
I was driving and listening on mrn and was wow this could be good after originally thinking it would be bring single lane due to short track and the bottom groove in the turns. But this could be great due to the tires much like Bristol
LOL
Allmendinger's post crash interview
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lITJmnNDyN4
"my crotch belt tugged pretty hard, so uh, I'll have Tara look at that later"
Big shout out to Heim. He must've lost about a dozen spots on pit road today and still got a top 3. 23XI needs to get that third charter and put Heim in the seat. Heim time is the real deal.
Shoutout to Deegan, 37 cars blew tires and wrecked out and she comes home with a top 25. She needs to get into a car/series that can show her skills off better. Thinking maybe Front Rows open cup seat
And she is now below the 38 in owners points. A car with 1 less attempt. There could be an instance this year that she'll have to be in the top 33 in qualifying to make the race
Herbst didn’t make any friends today. About halfway into stage 3 he tried sending Sammy Smith in turns 3-4 for about 3 laps and at the next caution Sammy drove right next to him to show his displeasure I’m sure.
I hate to say it but I think his funding is what is keeping him in the xfinity series. I don’t think he’s a bad driver but he’s not a cup level guy like some who link him to the FRM opening and such.
Indeed. We've had classics all year, but the broadcast has hampered every single one. Great to see NBC showing Fox how it's done... shame they weren't able to pony up for the first half of the season. I mean, imagine Leigh Diffey calling the Daytona 500...
The 15 was ungodly slow today but she finished the race and dodged all the crashes so honestly 25th isn't really that bad. Usually she is in every crash. I'll take it.
We'll see if he makes it to 2025 with them. Stuff like this that he did in the 25 truck turned heads and he was added to lists for potential rides. Ultimately sponsorship didn't pan out and he was on the sidelines to start the year. I do hope they stay together at least through the '25 season as this is a ground level team. Yes they get some RSS support but they're on a different teir than that group.
That pit crew is definitely rough, but they can hang in there and DiBenedetto is a professional to keep cars clean and hang around. Feels like they are a little slower than the Rackley truck, but it’s a familiar feeling.
Man that was wild, I bet that’s one where you’re just glad it’s over with at the end. I think Jr claimed once about a race that was so gnarly he was happy when he got caught up in a wreck just to get it over with.
That was a Busch Series race at Gateway in 1997. One of the hottest races ever. He saw cars wrecking in front of him and drove into it. He talked about it on his podcast when he had Robert Pressley on as guest.
Long story as short as possible, I was back judge in a HS football game and stood beside the free safety all night. He was making every tackle, returning every kickoff & a punt or two, and was the punter. They were getting hammered so he was super busy tackling in the secondary and punting and chasing down TD runs.
In the 4th quarter he turned to me and said, “The hell with this.” The ball was snapped a couple seconds later, he ran up in toward the LBs, kinda half dove, and started rolling around holding his leg. He was done.
Didn’t watch the race, I was too busy with my G56 Camaro ( Not lying )
Why are there so many cars 100+ laps down ?
https://preview.redd.it/ez6qkhkqbt6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6736e2d701420456cdb7f17544d9570588b772b0
It's interesting that Mayer's name rarely comes up in silly season talks.
6 wins in the last 29 races, and he has 3 full seasons' worth of Xfinity starts under his belt. You'd think he would be trying to move up to Cup at this point.
I wonder when LaJoie's contract ends. Mayer might be a good replacement, or he could get the #77 when Hocevar inevitably gets poached by a bigger team.
LaJoie supposedly signed a two year deal last year, but I have to imagine his seat is getting a bit hot with the speed a rookie is getting in the same equipment.
There’s no real quality rides available with Chevy right now. Hendrick has everyone booked through like 2026, Trackhouse is playing musical chairs with its drivers, RCR has Busch and Dillon on lock, and Spire has its 3 guys on contract. Only real option for him would be Kaulig or to jump ship to Ford or Toyota, and in that case id say contending for wins in Xfinity is the best option
Wow you're right, he turns 21 in a couple weeks.
I was thinking Mayer was 22-23. It feels like he's been around for a long time already, probably because he started out so young.
He was battling with Ty Gibbs for ARCA titles. They came to Xfinity at the same time and Ty immediately flourished while it’s taken Sam a year or two to get his feet under him. People forget how highly touted Sam was at only 16 years old just like Gibbs.
Really like NBC’s coverage with pre-post race shows. It’s perfect. A short, 30min pre race hitting the points of what we need to know, then longer or equal post race.
Much better than FOX with an hour pre race and no post race, there’s a lot more to talk about after the race, only a few things to note usually before a race.
Thank you Sheldon Creed for making me look like a genius to the drunk dude next to me in the stands.
Late restart I turned to him and said
"See that 18 car? He's never won and always does something stupid late in the race to fuck up his chances."
The dude couldn't stop calling me a genius for the next 20 minutes
Haha I basically said the same thing along the lines of - "alright if the 18 and 20 get side by side, that will be very good for our Sammy Smith Top 5 bets" lol
Props to nbc for doing a decent post race show. They didn’t have much time left in the tv window, but still used every second of it. Fox would’ve went to the ufl immediately after the winner interview.
So, for those who are curious on how Matty D got 7th, Chandler Smith overdrove turn 3, washed up, and doored Chastain. Both guys had to check up and it allowed the 38 to sneak by on the inside.
They showed him going low and making the pass as they were coming to the checkers. I was happy he was going to finish 10th. Thought maybe he just got a great run off 4 to get 7th
man I loved Sheldon Creed when he was in the 2 car and wanted him to get his first win so bad but I think now we can all agree as a collective that at this point he's blown it so hard that he probably doesn't even deserve to win at this point and should just go away after this year
The contact between Herbst and Mayer in stage 2 was a racing deal. It happens. The fact was that they both recovered and had a shot to win. Riley being mad just has everything to do with being out driven and not winning once again.
That's my thought. He had every opportunity to beat Mayer but couldn't do it. Pretty sure Herbst isn't the cleanest driver either, so he doesn't have room to talk.
No one forgot about what happened between the 1 and 98. People just think Riley is overreacting to a racing incident, and he didn't get the job done when he had multiple chances. Channel that frustration into winning, not cutting a tire down.
Honestly, I just have to ask. Wtf is Herbst talking about? He didn’t move him for the win, he raced him hard and took the position. Is Riley legit asking for an apology for being raced hard? If so, there’s a reason he’s still in the xfinity series
Did Mayer's tireless burnout obliterate the track? In one shot, it looked like it carved out a pretty big gouge in the asphalt.
Been at the track all week. The racing in the arca and Xfinity race have been awesome. Hopefully the cup series puts on a great show tomorrow and everyone sees Iowa should have been on the schedule a decade ago
hell yea have fun. making a week out of it or a long weekend is the true nascar experience.
Great race, and good to see Mayer finally snatching a win.
As much as I want to say Deegan raced a race, those restarts need to be a hot focus moving forward...
Not just for her, either It's shocking how many of them have been brought up with these double file restarts their entire careers, and yet are so horrendous at them Like it's like looking at Jeff and Mark when NASCAR made the change
Guys I think Corey Heim might be legit
Do you think he could ever get a full time cup series ride? I’d love to cheer for him there.
Probably the top candidate for the 19 or a 23xl 3rd charter car.
Heim Time brings it home in 3rd WTF got into JGR today? Their drivers were all over each other. Deegan car still junk?
Deegan skill* still junk
Matt with a top 10 is pretty nuts for that car. Experience and tire wear helped him.
At the race- The 15 was straight ass today, and she was giving the car all it would take. She ran the last three cars all day and if she drove any harder the car would just look like it was tankslapping. Scanner audio was very sad as she kept giving feedback and eventually her and the spotter sounded massively dejected.
I don’t want to be that guy because I believe she is Mid, she needs a new CC, he doesn’t listen to her at all.

Listening today she was giving really good feedback, but some of it is just an overall feel/skill. Time will tell if it develops into something. I want her to succeed, but time is running out.
I agree wholeheartedly
Today I was concerned because that team has no notes, but Brett Moffitt carried that team on his back to a massive scale and Deegan is a rookie that needs a good foundation under her. After lap 15 the goal became to run as many laps as possible and bring the car home in one piece.
Sam is a lovable goober, in my opinion. Lots of potential. Great eyebrows.
Eyebrows are the telltale sign of potential.
Watched it live in person, what a crowd! I love full stands, and this was a packed xfinity race. Lots of good battlin’, and even though Chandler got eated by the restart monster, Mayer did have the best car.
Tomorrow is going to be packed.
Obviously not live, Iowa has no hills
You’d think that but this part of Iowa has a lot of hills. At least compared to the flat parts of the state
Still had people saying the place was empty.
If it’s empty it’s because people are grabbing more beer I’ve been there plenty of times and every time the announcers tell the fans to get back to their seats for the start, including the luxury box seats
That’s really funny that people said that. The people who said that drive my car back to the hotel then, cause if it was empty it’d be an easy trip
It definitely was not.
I was there, place was packed, you will always have the people who skip Xfinity and just want the cup race
I'll take a top 10 for Ross in subpar equipment! Best part is that it wasn't a fluke, because Ross legit had that car in 3rd place at one point!
I’d be surprised if that wasn’t an RCR car in disguise.
It wasn’t, all DGM prepped. He comes down to help a team with feedback and race. Not trophy hunt.
I wouldn't be surprised, cause he had top 5 speed, especially on the long run
JOEY GASE P16 LET’S FUCKING GO!
So what are the chances of a competition caution at or around lap 35 tomorrow?
Possibly, rained again overnight
I doubt it as I feel like with the full practice teams should have an idea of what they can run. In the past there was uncertainty cause teams were limited in their run lengths and this week they had the option to figure it out.
Can anyone speak to what VIP/Infield pass experience was like today? Trying my best to avoid any major hiccups tomorrow. I'm not going to be able to sleep!!!
Relax, don't hound drivers especially if they are with family.
Matt dibenedetto with P7, strong run!
Will there be tyre roulette w Cup too? Not same tyres?
[удалено]
Allmendinger gotta few good spares
not the same, but there was a bunch of issues in practice yesterday.
I was driving and listening on mrn and was wow this could be good after originally thinking it would be bring single lane due to short track and the bottom groove in the turns. But this could be great due to the tires much like Bristol
Different tires, but based on practice, yes.
Sheldon is gonna Hemric his way to a title this year I am thinking.
If he could ever learn to restart well, he’d be the top dog.
Not gonna happen. He will crash out.
LOL Allmendinger's post crash interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lITJmnNDyN4 "my crotch belt tugged pretty hard, so uh, I'll have Tara look at that later"
Big shout out to Heim. He must've lost about a dozen spots on pit road today and still got a top 3. 23XI needs to get that third charter and put Heim in the seat. Heim time is the real deal.
I honestly think he has to be a top candidate if they don’t look at Gragson.
Sounds like he'd fit right in with "gotta recover from my dumpster pit crew."
Haha, he'd fit in perfectly!
Matty D great run! Congrats to Mayer and JRM. Maybe his luck is turning around now.
Shoutout to Deegan, 37 cars blew tires and wrecked out and she comes home with a top 25. She needs to get into a car/series that can show her skills off better. Thinking maybe Front Rows open cup seat
Nah, poach of the century with Deegan to the 5. Sorry Kyle.
Man, this is solid. Bravo
This is top tier satire and it's a shame people are too dumb to see it.
With all due respect and as much as I’d love to see her succeed, she’s the definition of a bust
I'm pretty sure that was sarcastic?
Probably was but it’s hard to pick up on sarcasm through text 🤣
Heck Glen Reen passed her at one point in his debut in a way worse car lol
And she is now below the 38 in owners points. A car with 1 less attempt. There could be an instance this year that she'll have to be in the top 33 in qualifying to make the race
Why she going to front row when RFK might get their 3rd charter?
![gif](giphy|JmhJvcyi0eDXFdCSWS)
Xfin cars with 900HP would put on a hell of a show on Sundays
Herbst didn’t make any friends today. About halfway into stage 3 he tried sending Sammy Smith in turns 3-4 for about 3 laps and at the next caution Sammy drove right next to him to show his displeasure I’m sure.
I hate to say it but I think his funding is what is keeping him in the xfinity series. I don’t think he’s a bad driver but he’s not a cup level guy like some who link him to the FRM opening and such.
Bummed that svg could’ve probably had a top 20 through attrition alone if he kept it clean. Oh well, looking forward to a flat track next weekend.
NBC have the same amount of commercials, but a worse booth than Fox.
But do they actually catch the race or do they just show fans while important moments are happening?
Deegan p25 hell yeah brothers and sisters
She's doing so good. Looking forward to seeing what she does in cup next year.
Danica would drive circles around Deegan and that’s saying a lot
Yeah, Danica was a way way over average. Just below the best drivers. And Deegan is young so she has a lot of runway stil.
That's what happens when the current model of NASCAR allows drivers to fail upwards.
It only took 1/3 of the field wrecking out...
She is not getting a cup ride.
I know...lol
That was a very good race and broadcast.
Indeed. We've had classics all year, but the broadcast has hampered every single one. Great to see NBC showing Fox how it's done... shame they weren't able to pony up for the first half of the season. I mean, imagine Leigh Diffey calling the Daytona 500...
Utter nonsense. Go back to rejoin your pack of screaming monkeys.
...Wha?
Really impressive run from Ryan Ellis and the 43 team with a p14 . Almost nabbed a top 10 until white flag.
I haven't changed the channel yet and Regan Smith just won doing Olympics trails for the women's team, I guess that's the way the world spins now
A Mayer win and a Matty D top 10 we love to see it
DGM and Viking Motorsports top 10s Today is a good day
The 15 was ungodly slow today but she finished the race and dodged all the crashes so honestly 25th isn't really that bad. Usually she is in every crash. I'll take it.
Yes, small wins! Haha Was at the race and the crew was doing work the the right front. Not sure what the issue was.
She had to demand a mechanic come over the wall and over ruled her CC. Said the wheel had to be turned past 8 o clock to even get the car to turn.
Did they replace her CC
Nope
Matt D getting a top from 2 laps down is nothing short of incredible. If he can stay with this team for a little I think they can do great things.
100%
To be fair, Hill was right, he didn't see much of Shane and did finish higher in like 30th place lol.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQyjShfg1ks&t=173s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQyjShfg1ks&t=173s)
Oh man thank you!! I only caught a snippet of that ep from some repost and wanted to hear the whole thing.
So miserable in the car he crashed himself to get out of it? That's funny.
Poor kid. I played on a crappy HS team and it can really suck.
Then to top it off he went back to his air conditioned hauler, forgot how hot it was and agreed to relieve Glenn Allen later on in the race.
I must say NBC made it feel like watching a race and not highlights of one, like Fox does.
Well time to watch the 24 hours of safety car until tomorrows cup race
Oh shit, Le Mans is *this* weekend? What channel?
It's on motortrend and also on Max this year.
I got it on Motortrend, about 15 hours left in the race
I have it on right now LOL
Didn’t watch the race, I was too busy with my G56 Camaro ( Not lying ) Why are there so many cars 100+ laps down ? https://preview.redd.it/ez6qkhkqbt6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6736e2d701420456cdb7f17544d9570588b772b0
lots of tire blowouts and wrecks
It's interesting that Mayer's name rarely comes up in silly season talks. 6 wins in the last 29 races, and he has 3 full seasons' worth of Xfinity starts under his belt. You'd think he would be trying to move up to Cup at this point.
Unless he’s willing to roll around in Kaulig junk there really isn’t an opportunity for him.
He's a future Hendricks driver, he's next in line
Behind Kyle Busch and Josh berry, only one seat to fill for the foreseeable future.
I'd love to see him at Spire, but they're full.
Imagine saying that sentence in 2019, what a ride lol
Spire, Front Row, and RFK lol
I wonder when LaJoie's contract ends. Mayer might be a good replacement, or he could get the #77 when Hocevar inevitably gets poached by a bigger team.
Why would any team want a driver with a bum leg?
That's ableist
LaJoie supposedly signed a two year deal last year, but I have to imagine his seat is getting a bit hot with the speed a rookie is getting in the same equipment.
Yeah I think he has to pick it up or he'll be out of that ride in 26
There’s no real quality rides available with Chevy right now.
I feel like one more year in Xfinity would be good for him, he does still make some dumb mistakes.
He has a lot of talent but he is only 20-21 years old. He has plenty of time to move up no need to rush it.
Yeah pretty sure he was just 15 when jr signed him.
People around here spent so long trashing him like they do Hemric and Creed now.
Thank you Goodyear and Iowa
Thank you Goodyear for screwing my day
Really like NBC’s coverage with pre-post race shows. It’s perfect. A short, 30min pre race hitting the points of what we need to know, then longer or equal post race. Much better than FOX with an hour pre race and no post race, there’s a lot more to talk about after the race, only a few things to note usually before a race.
Yeah, NBC crams a lot of stuff in the 30 minute pre race , no room fluff pieces.
And most of Fox's prerace was just elaborate brand endorsements
Thank you Sheldon Creed for making me look like a genius to the drunk dude next to me in the stands. Late restart I turned to him and said "See that 18 car? He's never won and always does something stupid late in the race to fuck up his chances." The dude couldn't stop calling me a genius for the next 20 minutes
Haha I basically said the same thing along the lines of - "alright if the 18 and 20 get side by side, that will be very good for our Sammy Smith Top 5 bets" lol
I love him so much because he reminds me of me, completely self-sabotaging in every imaginable situation.
Props to nbc for doing a decent post race show. They didn’t have much time left in the tv window, but still used every second of it. Fox would’ve went to the ufl immediately after the winner interview.
But not before taking a commercial break
Heard something about beef between Honeyman and Alfredo but I’ve yet to see anything
Fox or NBC, doesn’t matter. If anything did happen you’ll see on Twitter tomorrow. They don’t give much attention to the midfield.
For sure. Not trying to shade NBC, just haven’t seen any reports or anything on Twitter
I missed most of the race but I'm almost always good for some driver disagreements lol
God damn it, Marty, New Hampshire is not a fucking short track!
Steve Letarte is about to bust his ass.lol
Wtf is that website
I hate when Reddit does that.
Ah
man I loved Sheldon Creed when he was in the 2 car and wanted him to get his first win so bad but I think now we can all agree as a collective that at this point he's blown it so hard that he probably doesn't even deserve to win at this point and should just go away after this year
At this point he’s keeping the seat warm for Taylor Gray or William Sawalich
Sawalich in the 18 and Tay Gray in the 19 full time would be fucking lethal.
Bro Sawalich is really not even that good tbch
HeRbSt AlMoSt ToOk OfF mAyErS hAnD People hated Edwards for years when he did that to Jr once
Well that was fun...actually can't wait for tomorrow lol Although I'm expecting an even bigger shitshow...but it may still be fun so who knows
The contact between Herbst and Mayer in stage 2 was a racing deal. It happens. The fact was that they both recovered and had a shot to win. Riley being mad just has everything to do with being out driven and not winning once again.
The contact was definitely a racing deal, and he didn’t have the race-winning car at the end anyways.
That's my thought. He had every opportunity to beat Mayer but couldn't do it. Pretty sure Herbst isn't the cleanest driver either, so he doesn't have room to talk.
Wish there would've been a few more interviews
I've missed having Brad Daugherty commentating.
Damn I was hoping for a few more interviews on post race but at least we got something
No one forgot about what happened between the 1 and 98. People just think Riley is overreacting to a racing incident, and he didn't get the job done when he had multiple chances. Channel that frustration into winning, not cutting a tire down.
Damn, so close from Riley. As much as I hate he got second, I don’t really understand what he was mad about afterwards.
Kyle Busch and Logano potentially both missing the playoffs in the same season is wild.
Somewhere, in an AppleBee’s right now, Michael Waltrip is talking to a tired server on a double, “Y’all see Daniel Dye with the Top 10 finish?”
I know you’re making fun of Mikey, but Dye had a very good, respectable run today
Yeah, and for the record, Applebee’s is a tremendous value.
Someone said Deegan was wrecking on the last lap, is that what happened? Haven’t seen anything about that other than a commenter.
I think they just said that the 15 team radio reported a spin. The 07 went around
Oh ok, thanks. Appreciate that!
No problem!
FOX would have been off of the air 10 minutes ago and never would have shown everything that happened between the 1 and 98. NBC is so good at this.
We just need YouTube TV to record past the winner interview! Somebody at NBC please fix this :)
So that what VL looks like...
Is Herbst just gonna get angry every week now? Between Dinger a few weeks ago, and now this...
That’s funny when after practice they were so bad that the crew chief had no clue how to fix it, and then end up winning.
Mardy Lindley is a very smart guy. His father was/is a legend.
Aj Falls to only being+60 above the cutline not great but could be worse I guess.
Herbst had over half second lead and gave it up within 5 laps lmao
Honestly, I just have to ask. Wtf is Herbst talking about? He didn’t move him for the win, he raced him hard and took the position. Is Riley legit asking for an apology for being raced hard? If so, there’s a reason he’s still in the xfinity series
Some of ya'll have short memories. 1 almost took 98 out in stage 1.
And didn’t. And it didn’t impact the outcome in any way
Yeah, I’m pretty sure he was more made about that
It's depressing to watch NBC's coverage and realize what we missed out on all year being stuck with Fox
I think about this every year
Lmao NBC showing what Herbst is mad about from earlier in the race that everyone forgot about
These broadcasts need more Brad Daugherty.
