Nicw82

Wow that video footage was legit.

Subject-Soil1129

Epic work by those cops to box him in! Well done

DjC4

Honestly, pretty great maneuver job by the police pinning the cab in safely around that many other vehicles. Nice camera work too.

TeoNatty

that was some GTA shit right there

Nextarity

It that “taxi” driver a nut? He trapped himself when he had a good chance of going down 7th

NewWestPD

Karrun

Cab driver was run over when he was yanked from the car. He had minor injuries.

CorbettJr

Came from 8th, drove by me at the corner of 6th. NO idea why police, fire, and ambulance were already at the scene.

maymayiscraycray

They were probably trying to head him off

CorbettJr

I'd understand that if it were just police, but fire and medics were there already too.

maymayiscraycray

Do you think maybe there was a passenger?

Karrun

No passenger. Fire and medics were there because 10 minutes before he car jacked the cabbie infront of the mall.

maymayiscraycray

😨

Esarel

standard for all 3 to be present at a 911 call

Zilla197737

Driver was attacked, customer was driving

Marclescarbot

Nice camera work.

OFFICERS MAKE ARREST AFTER WITNESSES REPORT DANGEROUS DRIVER IN UPTOWN. https://www.nwpolice.org/blog/2023/05/17/officers-make-arrest-after-witnesses-report-dangerous-driver-in-uptown-neighbourhood/

SignatureOrdinary

Can anyone confirm that the taxi driver that got car jacked is safe and still has their job?

Odd-Gear9622

I just got home from there. According to the taxi dispatcher the driver was knifed and lost control of the car hitting parked vehicles. Driver is being treated at RCH with non life threatening wounds. The 600 block is going to be closed for a while for the investigation. Edit: after waiting for the twittersphere to spool up, makes me wonder if it was a carjacking.

Karrun

Was there. It was a car jacking. Cabbie not knifed but was run over when thrown out of the car.

DaveinNewWest

My toughts too

isay2smile

Jeepers! Amazing footage. Amazing response from all of the police, fire & ambulance. Sounds like lots of damage. Just bonkers! I hope the cab driver has a quick recovery. I feel bad for that mom and baby that went into a construction site for protection when the guns were drawn. With the shouting that the police have to do when their guns are drawn can be downright scary if you are very close to the situation. It's necessary, though.

yupkime

Before that he was driving around Sapperton crashing around near the Canada Games Pool. Hope he gets the help he needs.

pastorDaveshair

Heard him skidding around from my backyard, he crashed into my neighbour's van and drove off

canuckable

Cabbie must’ve really liked the waffle house.

maymayiscraycray

I heard screaming but I wasn't sure which location it was coming from

[deleted]

Thank god our bail system will take into account the fact he might do this again and possibly hurt someone…. Oh wait it can’t make that assumption 🤦🏼‍♂️

UpstairsPackage5186

Maybe cab was reported stolen and not actually a Royal city cab driver. If so, stick to UBER

harlojones

If so, seems like not a regular occurrence…. Not sure why that would prompt you to recommend Uber

neonbronze

were you just looking for an excuse to give a tongue bath to some awful gig economy company?

pisspantsing

Hey, as the end user, I've had far better experiences in ubers than I ever had in taxis. And for a lower price. Taxis need to step it up if they want to survive.

> regulated industry Speaking strictly of this territory (because they aren't regulated in a number of others) how are they not regulated here in BC? > every one HAS to have a camera inside There's no reason an Uber driver can't have a camera installed. > I have legal rights to both a set price You do? Aren't they set by the Passenger Transportation Board? If anything you have more of a right to set a price with Uber. Don't like it right now? Wait to see it changes. > and my choice of route I mean if you request an Uber take a specific route, they wouldn't argue.

> The cab industry is regularly watched over by government, both for driver and passenger safety. In what ways that differ from Uber? > There is no reason an Uber driver can't have a camera, but they aren't legally required to. While you're not wrong, it's definitely in the driver's best interest to have one. > Uber has surge pricing. No matter what time of day, where I am going, any cab company is required to charge me the set price dictated by a governing body. I see that as a perk really. If you don't need a car right now, you can wait it out until it returns to normal. If you do need one, you're not getting a cab without a significant wait whereas with Uber, you can pay more money in exchange for an immediate ride. Sometimes time is of the essence. Sometimes money is of the essence. > They could argue, they aren't required by law to take my route of choice. Cab drivers are. But the question is why would they? The other way is actually worse. Uber shows you the route the driver is probably going to take. A cab will take you on whatever route they feel like if you don't tell them. This is how that one guy ended up on a tour of all the bridges in Vancouver because they were a "tourist". Turned a $10 trip into a $100 trip. This wouldn't happen with Uber.

BobBelcher2021

I only use Uber. I refuse to support taxi companies anywhere in North America.

DevourerJay

Ah, royal city taxi, stay classy....

It's quite unfortunate though, but people never fail to disappoint. I wish I could have a more optimistic outlook, but... look around...

Actually, I had to re-read the whole thing, I retract my previous statement, I assumed that the taxi driver had a driver rage case, to the point police was involved. So again, I retract my previous statement. But I won't delete it as it feels that I deserve the down votes now 😅

UpstairsPackage5186

Think about the original post. What makes more sense regarding the fact that the police were already on scene.

UpstairsPackage5186

I said stick to Uber as an offhand option to getting into what may be a stolen cab. Everyone's so quick to argue these days.
