Just another thing to break

mindfulmadness

That is a concern I guess. But if it's broken doesn't that just make it like, a normal pizza oven? Like Mitch Hedberg said, "An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience."

ColHannibal

But the stone can break and finding one that works with the mechanism or fits it.

mindfulmadness

At least there is a 5 year warranty. But that is a good point.

ColHannibal

I mean I guess you can always get a bigger stone to sit on top of the broken one for more thermal mass. The spinning seems like a gimmick, but it seems interesting as it’s a cheap oven that gets the job done.

jug_23

5 year warranty is likely only for manufacturing defects - I wouldn’t bank on being able to claim against it, especially for a company that I don’t recognise as a brand.

Praetori4n

Nexgrill isn’t super obscure, they’re sold at Home Depot and Walmart.

jug_23

Ah, sorry - not a brand we see in the UK :-)

Lobotomite430

I went to the store to buy a candle holder but they were sold out so I bought a cake!

mypussydoesbackflips

You ever see an escalator collapse ? Good joke but not the truth haha

DynamiteWitLaserBeam

I thought of that bit recently when my wife and I approached a set of escalators with a set of regular stairs between them. The up escalator was stopped and people were lining up to walk up the regular stairs. Nobody thought to just walk up the stopped escalator, so we did, and a few dozen people followed (and then everyone cheered and made us homecoming queen and king - true story).

roastedhambone

Assuming it just stops spinning yes, but there’s a number of other outcomes

Jokong

It becomes a pizza centrifuge?

mindfulmadness

I do wonder what an other bad outcome would be. Maybe a slightly irritating wobbly stone.

roastedhambone

It shorts the whole thing

olsloppyknob

I wouldn't worry about this at all. Every time someone comes out with a new feature there's always the crowd that automatically says "another thing to break," If we listened to that, then there would never be innovation, no advancement at all. This seems like it'll be a helpful feature, and if it breaks then you fix it. Too often people think that if something breaks you just throw it out. If it's a sensor that goes out, find it online and replace it. If it's a gear/mount then see if you can have the company send a replacement (they say yes more often than you might think). In this case I can't think of a single thing that could go wrong that would make the oven unusable. It's just going to turn into an oven that doesn't rotate

Dangerous_Pension612

Give me a rotating steel and I’m in. Stones eventually break 100% of the time .

Cracktherealone

This!

guymev

At first I thought it feels like cheating, but then I understood that if it helps with evening the cooking process and lowers the chance of catastrophe during rotating - it worths a try!

mindfulmadness

I do still frequently burn one side while trying to make the second pizza. Thanks for your thoughts!

Darkie420

Self rotating…sounds like time for a drink while my pizza cooks 🫡 I think its smart and as long as it cooks/works properly, probably would be really nice

beatlethrower

I have one with the rotating wheel, and it works great. Yes, you have to plug it in, but I have a good setup, so it happens to work well with it. I haven't had a problem yet, and it is worth it. But that's just my opinion....

yeadoge

It sounds kinda cool, but I assume it needs to be plugged in which would be an annoyance for me.

mindfulmadness

It actually runs on 2 D batteries - so no worries on that end.

peniseend

You definitely need to rotate this

mindfulmadness

That is a good point penis eend

explorthis

Been using a Roccbox 12" since Xmas. Have basically not perfected but learned to cook a pie properly. It takes total concentration for that 2 to 2-1/2 mins the pie is on the stone. Constantly watching it like a hawk. Learning when to rotate, lifting the edge to check for doneness. Would I like a rotating one? undecided. It's second nature now. Many have said, it's something else to break... Maybe. It was a chore learning to rotate the pie properly. I probably killed 4-5 pies by not rotating and burning one side. Eh... Dunno if I'd switch out now, even if it was a free exchange. I'm used to it, and have a good process down.

mindfulmadness

I hear you. I feel like I would probably loose my pizza rotating skills.

Massive-Air3891

I picked up a bertello pizza oven. now that I own I personally think it is pretty bad design. Basically the pizza part near the back gets burnt before the dough gets set up enough to be able to rotate it. So the idea of a rotating pizza stone that could be rotated without having to scoop up the pizza and rotate it seems like it might be something really interesting. Sure it could break but could solve some problems too

Ok-Goose-4798

I have the Bertello also and it seems near impossible to not burn the the side near the flame before the first turn. I wish I would have went with a rotating stone pizza oven.

SigSeikoSpyderco

Dey took r JOBS!

hey, you've sort of got some answers below but not really. You can ask about this in the [weekly thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/pizza/about/sticky?num=1), but I think the response will bet he same. Might as well try it and post the pizza :)

mindfulmadness

Will do! I'll make the dough today and post results in three days when I make my pizza.

6745408

neat that it rotates. :)

Srycomaine

That’s a pretty interesting feature, could be really helpful for beginners or those that don’t want to bother with turning pizzas themselves. It’s odd though— went to their sites (USA & CA), and they only offer a couple of 12” ovens. Maybe it’s something new…?

mindfulmadness

I guess so, that's why I posted because I couldn't find much information on online. My wife bought it for me at Costco in Canada. The reviews on the Costco website are positive but there's only two.

Srycomaine

Well that killer, you get to test drive it and make pizzas to your heart’s desire, and if it doesn’t live up to your expectations then you can return it for a full refund. So I suggest you start making that dough…! 😉🍕🤌👍

sanquility

I had a self rotate kit in my ooni that I loved and now I have a halo which is built in. It's amazing. I love my halo.

More_Hamster_3596

I have a pizza oven made by blackstone with a rotating stone. It's friggin' awesome. Sure, you either won't develop pizza rotating skills if you're new and learning, or will maybe get a bit rusty if you're comfortable. But not having to worry as much about edges burning or cooking unevenly is fantastic. These pizza ovens crank out pies in less than two minutes so not really a time saver, but the convenience is great and it takes the guesswork out of getting an even bake. I do not see myself breaking out my ooni again unless I have to.

Over_Pizza_2578

Love it, especially helpful if you are a beginner. My oven has no battery operated stone, you have to turn it manually with a knob below the oven, its a santos os 160. Surprisingly cool down there, but i still have my welding gloves in reach in case a stubborn pizza needs convincing with a spatula.

chipmunk1982

WITCHCRAFT!!!!!!

dahadster

Got a halo versa something or other with rotating stone. Immediately put my roccbox away and haven’t used it in over a year. The rotation, 16” capacity, etc. makes the best NY style pizza and I can use a pizza screen too which totally helps use less flour/semolina and lets me stretch the pizza much easier because the screen has the perforations that hold the dough in place.

snatch1e

It is very convenient. You don’t need to rotate the pizza manually, which can be particularly helpful in maintaining a consistent cooking temperature and process.
