Game isn't always about kills/assists. I judge my performances off how much of an impact I've had in the game. As a tank, I want to make sure I can deny the enemy as much space as possible. Just be annoying as possible for them.

rexy_boi_exe

I agree with that, and that's what I think while playing too, just added numbers coz I wasn't sure if someone might ask for something lol. But yeah I try to be an annoying asshole to the opposing team, or in some cases, give my teammates space to run and keep themselves alive if they are in clutch. But like, how do I see after a game if I have been annoying enough or not šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

KeysUK

You can't really, I had a 39% win rate on my Wiggly for a while but I knew I was playing well on it. Then went on a decent winning streak on it and it's 52% now. Its all vibes innit.

rexy_boi_exe

Fair enough

price_of_tags

Same, as chandelure I focus on using imprison and damaging the enemy team so my team can finish them off

Itsputt

If you always play Surf/Pump then I'd recommend running an Exp Share so that your lane partner can get ahead and capitalize on you engagements. If you run the build you have I go for rapid spin/water spout to carry.

rexy_boi_exe

I see, Ig I will replace the spoon with exp share and see how it works out after running a few tanked matches. Also, I have never really payed much attention to water sprout coz it was a very single spot skill, how does it exactly work? Higher dmg multipliers?

Rhasiel

Water spout is lame move on its own, but great when paired with rapid spin. Not everyone knows how to use it correctly though. The trick is to go with rapid spin and then hold water spout button for the whole duration of the spin, this way you will get a constant series of attacks instead of single hits every second.

rexy_boi_exe

Ok I see, thatā€™s interesting. I will give it a try in the practice area to get a hang of it. Is the point of this build to hinder like surf pump or be a dmg dealer?

Rhasiel

It more like damage dealer, it revolves around being hard to hit and damage dealing while being somewhat tanky. So recommended items and emblems are those increasing sp atk

rexy_boi_exe

Ok, got it šŸ«”

Itsputt

Also just to add on when you go into rapid spin it resets to cool down of water spout so you should try to water spout your target for the slow then hop into rapid spin and hold down the water spout button.

Lasideu

For moves, either 3 sets (Surf/Hydro, Spin/Hydro, Spin/Spout) are fine and are enemy dependent; If they have far more Attackers than All Rounders/Speedsters, then Spin/Spout is a great single-target killing machine. If they have more Melee then your CC is crucial to team fights, which Surf/Hydro or Spin/Hydro (recommend the former as the latter is a bit more tricky) is the way to go, assuming your team isn't full of knuckleheads. For items, I'd carry Slick Spoon, Energy Amp, and either Focus Band or Resonant Guard. EXP Share is a Masters+ Blastoise item where your teammates can be more reliable but while grinding to Masters, I'd rather ensure I evolve at a decent pace. Sp. Attack Specs are fine too but I always found them overkill as your damage is insane enough towards the end. Cookie is not good on him since he doesn't really have sustain. You are better off just dealing more damage before dying rather than sitting around for an extra second longer with more HP since you have no real way to heal it back up on your own. Eject Button should be the ONLY item you use as him; repositioning yourself to cause some serious CC (ejecting right behind the enemies to Surf them out of their goal and into your All Rounders) or teleport with your Unite is far more useful than any other battle item. Obviously you do you, but you are putting yourself at a serious disadvantage by picking something like Potion or X Speed. Most see Eject Button as a high cooldown escape tool when the more skilled you become, the more you realize it's usually an offensive item. Other than that, it's mainly just awareness. Seeing if your teammates need someone pushed away from them (your mage/carry vs a Speedster diving them) or setting up a Surf + Hydro into a wall, leaving an enemy in CC jail for the next 3 seconds while deleting half the HP, if not all of it. On the flip side, do not push away someone who your Melee Pokemon is beating up, such as your Dragonite. You want to push enemies towards them, not away. Also, please do not push Regileki away from your base when it's just you and a DPS burning it. It blows my mind how many players do that while no enemy is around so now we have to try and kill it without base heals lol sometimes pushing away from your team is bad. **Just because a move is available to use doesn't mean you need to use it.** Blastoise was my ticket to Masters this season since using my usuals just wasn't working this time and it only took like....12 games in a row with him. He's still the most busted solo queue (and probably overall) Defender atm.

rexy_boi_exe

Thank you for sharing this information šŸ«”

oscarguti21

Teammates are important, but blastoise is amazing. If u are soloing, I recommend u trying rapid spin + hydro pump, it carries very well, and has great secure for objectives. Search spragels vid japanesse pro strat, I use that same build, the key is using hydro pump to push and stun in the correct moment.

DGFF001

Never played Blastoise. But against it i find surf annoying as hell. Whats the advantage of rapid spin?

OminousLaw

Gives you mobility while being aggressive. You can also chain Hydro pump, Rapid Spin(hydro pump while rapid spinning) and then Hydro pump when you are done. With that said, I am ass with rapid spin and prefer surf lol

rexy_boi_exe

Hmmmm ok I get it. I will give spin a try and also watch the video you mentioned. Will need to practice spin coz I have only tried it once (Surf is so damn fun šŸ˜‚)

whip_accessible

I wouldn't recommend stacking on blastoise unless you're absolutely confident on what you're doing. If you're spinning, that's when you stack. But imo just specs. Cookie isn't worth it. Having 2 stacking items is often times bait. Just get defensive items that are online asap and good value beginning to end like resonant guard or focus band. Recently I run resonant, focus band, spoon. Because stun Stoise is the more popular build rn. And rightfully so. It's so annoying. Muscle band is worth considering too coz you basic attack a lot. You're a ranged defender. In terms of what to actually do. Just be in team fights and objectives ideally early. Coz you're the front liner. Try to use walls to chain stun. Much like any character anticipate where enemy is going to catch them in your surf or pump. Ideally you push enemy to your side so your teammates can gang on them while you're stunning them. As for spin stoise, no thoughts, head empty. Just spin on them. Lmao

garbink

If youā€™re running surf pump, drop aeos cookie, itā€™s not very good compared to resonant guard or focus. Personally I would also drop special specs and run muscle too, since special specs is more of a spinstoise item, but special specs is otherwise fine on the build. Iā€™m assuming youā€™re running eject, but if youā€™re not, run it

Adventurous-Shame383

I have been playing a lot of blastoise this season and am currently around 1400. Res guard is fantastic on blast and i almost always run it. XP share I run 90% of the time as itā€™s a huge advantage for your lane partner to hit level 5 before first birds. If you opt not to run xp share I rec slick spoon, muscle band, or focus band. If you want to be really effective In your role you will run some combination of those 5 items. (Muscle band is actually good on blast for attack speed as boosted autos reset cooldowns, could even run RFS) Surf Pump is generally a lot more effective then spout spin (hydro spin is not very strong). Stacking items generally work better for spout spin as you are more of a harasser abusing unstoppable to walk around their front and back lines, but if you arenā€™t running spout spin I wouldnā€™t worry about stacking.

charizardbeast

I also main blastoise, well used to here are my tips for Blast If you are running hydro + surf Items- guard, spoon, focus band for tankiness See if your team has a carry, if so keep others away from them and push them away with surf. And then hydro pump If you are 1 on 1 hydro pump to stun them and then surf, also basic attacks reduce cool down. When you are pushing onto the enemy team come from Behind and push them out from the pad. You can push them also back, but I donā€™t like this because then you are into the speed flux zone and they have an advantage over you. In contrast if you push them out then your team can wipe them out. Pan over the camera and if you see a big team fight happening when the enemy is pushing, come from behind them and surf pump them into your side and if you have unite use it. Then hopefully your teammates can clean up. Secure farm by remembering spawn times, one you know when birds spawn surf them into your side. I like to use eject button, especially for ray, you can secure if you start your units before since the animation takes about a second and then Eject into ray when low to secure. Also in the ray fight donā€™t go out to fight and try to carry, help out your teammates by pushing the opponents away. As for rapid spin + spout Held items - guard, spoon, attack weight or rapid fire scarf With this build and move set try to level up as soon as you can and get ahead in levels. Aim for the squishy mons, and try to fight with your teammates if you can. You can secure ray with rapid spin + spout but the unite is still the best way to go. And finally someone mentioned this already itā€™s not about kills or assist it how you were able to contribute as a teammate. Iā€™ve had former teammates who didnā€™t stay on pad so the can go score even though we are ahead after ray and then we get scored on and ends up losing the game. So see how you can best contribute. Also if you want more tips and tricks about the game let me know.

rexy_boi_exe

I see ok, I will try what you suggested for pump surf. One question, how do I know if there is a carry? Like I have been in matches where folks had good mons like m2, buzz or zacian, and the opposing teams completed bullied them (not sure if my teammate was bad or the opposing team was just way too busted) Also when u talk about 1 on 1, should I try to kill or just hinder and move away?

charizardbeast

So as for the carry itā€™s usually the person with the most kills ( not always) but they will come in and start killing the opposing team. So as for the carry they know when to team fight, a bad teammate will just keep dying or jumping into bad fights. Also they wonā€™t farm a carry will farm, jump in at the right moment and kill. As for the one on one itā€™s situational if you are on pad then just push away and then will usually go away, unless they have a buddy hiding in the bushes. Then they will come back to lure you out our pad so they can kill you. In other occasions if they are low on health then get the kill but if not then let them go. Also I forgot to mention exp share is the best item in unite but I donā€™t like to use it in solo q because players donā€™t know how it works. That why I go with others items but let me know if you want to learn about that. Also How many games have you completed in unite?

rexy_boi_exe

Got it, thanks for all this info. I have completed a little over 600 battles, but I have only 133 battles with Blastoise. B4 blast I was maining Ninetails, got 200 battles and a green badge with it. Once I came to master for the first time I realised that testing mons over there is the worst idea and that people donā€™t usually play supports and defenders. So I first did Elde and then moved to Blast. I was doing pretty well with Blast but on 2nd master season not so much. Thatā€™s why I said I am not that good of a player but I want to improve. I made this post coz I am new to Reddit and I thought that some tips from blast veterans might help me in improving my game further (I donā€™t wanna play A9 anymore lol)

charizardbeast

Hey Iā€™m glad you are trying to improve I had the same experience as you. Iā€™m not as good as others on here skill wise but my iq has improved for the game. Here are some tips I will give you for the game . 1. As you know whoever gets ray most likely wins 2. If you lose regilek before ray donā€™t defend it let it go in bc if the other team sees you and your team defending it they will rip ray quick, if you see them defending it with 2or 3 players rip ray and zone out the others form ray 3. If you are really ahead in points before ray donā€™t rip ray 4. The jump pad comes up at minute 5 so you can score points on the second pad(in case you break first pad) 5. Look at the mini map it will show where the enemy is at certain times and you can get an idea where they might be heading to. 6. Try to secure farm and donā€™t get into fight at the begging because you will have to claw your way back into the game to match levels with the other team 7. If the enemy team are pushing with the team and you are alone donā€™t defend walk away. Because they will kill you get more exp and they will still get the score ( unless Allieā€™s are coming to help and are nearby) 8. Letting a score in sometimes can help, letā€™s say you pad has 3 points left to break. If an enemy want to break with 5 points let them. I say this because you donā€™t want someone at ray fight to score big or someone with 50 points. 9. If a teammate gets into a bad fight donā€™t join then that are usually the bad players. If you see some get into a 1 v5 let them die bc you will die along with them. 10. If you are winning early on you get ahead on level you will usually dominate. One big mistake everyone make is trying to keep dominating donā€™t do that because if you die you will give come back exp and they canā€™t get back into the game and win. So if you are ahead donā€™t keep pushing it. 11. This ties with 9 and 10 if your carry is killing and is almost about to die save him! This is important early on because they will have 2 or 3 levels above the enemy and they will try to kill them to get come back exp. 12. Donā€™t go push and try to score before ray or at ray fight. If you are going to try to score do it at like 3:30 mark. If your team is pushing to score before ray fight you will get killed and the other team and rip quick. Or if you are back capping at ray you will leave your team to fight outnumbered, and next thing you know your team is dead. If people want to add more please do so, these are things that helped improve as a player and team mate.

rexy_boi_exe

Many of these are very helpful. Thank you good sir

charizardbeast

Actually another thing I forgot was farming is important as a defender or support level 11 or 12 is good. For attacker, speedsters, and all rounders 13-15 is good.

TheRealStringerBell

I feel like if you are at the point where you don't know how to judge how you did then you'd be best branching out and learning every role rather than focusing on maining a specific pokemon. At the end of the day you need to be able to take a step back and figure out what you could have done to win games that you lose. To do that you really just need experience. Things you would look at though: Did you win your lane in terms of getting the most experience/kills/not dying? (be honest, and this is where using a stacking strategy can kind of hurt your development because it's harder to judge) Were you being productive at all times? either winning team fights/getting exp? Did you make it to key team fights? Did you use your unite at the right times? Did you go on the right targets? (A common one is you initiated or jumped on some squishy target but in hindsight it's impossible for your team to back you up)

rexy_boi_exe

Got it, I will try to do some analysis wherever I can. Right even now from the top of my head, the only thing I can be confident about is winning a lane, given my dps on the same lane does their job. Getting exp is one thing I practice all the time, I need to be better at getting to team fights. I have been to them, but I think I can improve in that area more. Thank you for this list of questions haha, this is a nice way to judge

MoisnForce2004

My favorite way of Blastoise Jungle is Water Spout/Rapid Spin. It does increase movement speed.

rexy_boi_exe

Wait what šŸ˜³ blastoise in Jungle? Ok I am not a fan of jungle as such coz there is a higher importance on time management and I wanna fight other team on lanes, but this is new, I thought only selected PokĆ©monā€™s should be taken on jungle. Good stuff, might give it a try some time. Tho I suppose then blastoise becomes more of a tanky dps than a tanky hinderer right?

MoisnForce2004

That is only if I am forced to Jungle. I rather lane with him, but I still prefer Spinspout. Yes, he does become a Tanky DPS unit with that build. Blastoise slightly before the Absol Meta, where he did a million damage with Spinspout became the all-time jungler.

awildefire

Stacking items are risky, esp when youā€™re inexperienced. Try focus band and res guard instead

Michigan_Man101

I'm a Blastoise main, and there are many different ways to play Blastoise. You can stack specs, you can run EXP share, you can play full tank or full damage. All of these options are viable. My personal favorite is support SurfPump. I used to stack on it, but I've come to respect the EXP Share item. Obviously there are many different item sets that work well, but my favorites are as follows: Support Set (Resonant Guard, Buddy Barrier, EXP Share) Full Tank (Buddy Barrier, Resonant Guard, Slick Spoon) Damage Set (Slick Spoon, Sp. Atk. Specs, Resonant Guard) Basically any of these item sets can work with any move combo. The only one you'll want to stay away from is SpinSpout with the support set. You could also try Focus Band, or even double stacking if you're running SpinSpout. The most important thing with Blastoise is its Unite move. It's extremely powerful, especially at objectives. Having the ability to throw opponents at a secure opportunity is amazing, and it's also a very powerful pushing tool. Try to make sure you have your Eject Button up so you can redirect where your Unite is going to hit. When playing Blastoise, how you gauge how well you do is not from KO's and assists; it's from your damage taken and your MVP points. MVP points are weird, and normally I wouldn't use them as a guideline. However, for defenders, MVP points are decided in part by how many hinderances you landed. So, while assists are good, if your MVP score is only a bit lower than your team's, then you did well. If it's higher than your team's, then your team sucked.

Gilbert_Reddit

you should be carrying every game. 50% winrate is abysmal and you should either learn to play him and get that number up into the high 80s or drop the char and get good

dfinkelstein

Don't worry about stats. Lets say you're wondering this during a game. Look at the level difference and the score difference. Don't know the score difference? Start noting big overcaps (both sides!) and have some sense--I've won and lost so many games that unless you knew all the overcaps you mathematically would never know who won! Losing objectives? Getting scored on early? Losing second goal early? Are your ADC carry or support dying early? Are you getting value from your ult? Consider what would have happened if you didn't use it. Your ult is insane at two things -- initiation, and countering. There's an opportunity cost to initiating with it! If you don't convert kills and convert those kills into rey or other advantage, then you're down the ult to turn a fight. It's so good for Interrupting what the other team wants to do. The knock up is huge, so consider where that gets the most value. Knocking up a Zoroark is no bueno for him. But a snorlax? He'll take a nap while he's up there. But if your team isnt there ready to follow-up, then it's one of the most underwhelming ults in the game. Move sets. After the game... What if you'd picked the other one? Think it through. Matchups. Fights. Positioning. Cc/damage. Were you happy with your move set choice? Why or why not? Macro--are you at objectives when you want to be? Do you later wish you'd gone to the other for some reason, or even farmed or invaded instead? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Hopefully my train of thought rubs off. It's an attitude rather than specifics. It's about reflecting and asking yourself questions. Comparison is always good. What if you'd done X instead? How did the fight go compared to the one you were unhappy with? Anything you did differently? Don't look for someone to tell you what to do. Always consider whether it's working for you in your games. How can you tell? What if you do it differently -- were they right?
