It doesnโt look it from this angle, but Mittens is taller and about 50% heavier than Pookie. She was barking to encourage him to move.
My pup also lives with 3 cats, she's the only dog but I'm starting to suspect that she thinks she is also a cat ๐ she always wants to eat their cat food over her dog food so I've been putting the cats food up at feeding time. She loves playing with them and has been slapped a few times but no claws. Her favorite game is chasing them around the backyard then the cats hide under the BBQ protector and peek out if my dog doesn't find them fast enough. It's so cute!
I moved my cat food to a kitchen cart back when I had labs, and Iโve kept it up high since then. That said, the cats *love* Pookieโs dry food. I feed Pookie 2x a day and measure her food. If she doesnโt tuck in right away, they will. It helps her focus on mealtimes. ๐
That's the same with my cats! So one in particular will only eat fancy feast so that's just what I buy, I've tried others and the other cats eat it but this one that is the "food alarm" refuses to eat anything else! Their dry food I can get anything. Anyways I spend way more on my dogs food getting royal canin (both dry and wet) which is why it's frustrating she prefers the cat food ๐ but the cats LOVE her dry food! Every time I buy a new bag, there's a hole in the middle of it from the cats! They'll eat her wet food too but they just love her dry food. Which does make my dog want to eat it more lol
I have a cat named Domino too!! Nala is the kitty police! When she sees him doing something he shouldnโt be, she informs us immediately!! ๐
Just like your cat, Domino is much bigger than Nala. Heโs 19 lbs and Nala is 8

We live in a gated apartment complex with a parc in the middle, so I'm lucky enough to be able to let Mowgli off leash every day. He's met a lot of cats here. It was never a problem. Sometimes Moegli would be a little too much and the cats would hit him lol, but they were still gentle, it was a learning opportunity for Mowgli and no matter what would happen, I knew it was my responsibility because he was off-leash!
But he was actually on his leash this time since we crossed a parking lot. And suddenly there was this scared baby cat๐ญ and she pulled out her claws. I don't blame her because she's oubviously a baby and was scared and thought she had to defend herself. But MY POOR BABY MOWGLI๐ญ๐
One time, I was doing zumba in my living room, and my Pom picked the worst time to run past me, and I kicked him in the face. Never have I devolved into hysterical crying faster than in that moment, but he bounced back quickly and was mostly okay, other than a bit of squinty eyes like OP was describing. It seemed to last for a while, but I noticed he was totally fine when he didn't think I was watching him. I genuinely believe he was hamming it up to get extra treats and attention.
Both of my poms were attacked by a neighbors pitbull a week ago. My daughter was walking them and the neighbors boys let it off leash and told her it was no big deal. She thankfully picked them up over her head, but got bit in the back and my female got pulled from her hands, she put her body over our male who's 6 months old and somehow some way my female who's a year old got away with a tuft of fur ripped out. Police had to be called, hospital visit, vet visit later and unfortunately the Pitt had no shot records no license and is now in quarantine for 10 days. Only my daughter was truly hurt, teddy the female pom somehow didn't get punctured and what we thought was a broken pelvis turned out to be only a deep bruise.
Mowgli just keeps getting cuter and cuter!!! ๐ฉท
With regards to cats: we have lots of them here out in the fields, doing field cat things. I always warn my little pompom to stay away, as it's a fight she'll never win ๐ them cats are gangsters!! ๐๐โโฌ๏ธ
