There's no set rule, so each dealer handles it differently. Some will require a bunch of purchases while others are a lot more relaxed and do something close to first come first served. Some dealers let you jump the line if you pay over msrp, I've heard of some that don't.
Also, a lot of times it's not so much "you need to buy x number of cars" and more that certain people are the first they call because they've spent a ton of money there.
E-bike prices have actually been pushed down pretty dramatically, due to post-Covid oversupply.
A highly specced carbon ebike 3 years ago would normally cost nearly 10k and I bought new one recently for around $4k.
Considering a full carbon mountain bike with good hardware is like $3k minimum; it’s kinda a “good” deal! U gotta know where to look!
I just bought a Luna cycles x2.5. That’s gonna be the absolute most rabidly fast full squish carbon bike available, for the cheapest. The hardware is also all very high quality. Not Fox suspension, but high end rockshox. Suspension alone would cost $800+ if bought separately
Specialized e-bikes are also a good deal but they use Bosch motors while Luna uses a Bafang m600 with a completely custom built controller (basically a brain) that allows it to get like 2-4x more power than any motor that size. Coupled with a 60v battery compared to a typical 52v. (Don’t get a 48v bike). Internal parts are also swapped to make it more capable of handling that power.
No other e-bike brands are selling custom controller upgraded mid drives. Bafang motors are also right to repair friendly and EVERY part is. Available for cheap. Bosche which most other use are highly reliable as well - all e-bike motors are reliable… but they’re like Apple…
Kinda all depends on what u want and what ur budget is, but in my opinion it’s like the absolute best deal if u care about power. Other e-bikes have PLENTY of power if u wanna just use it as a mountain bike. But the X2.5 will hit 40mph on flats while every other bike, even like 14k treks will barely hit 30mph. They all use the same like 3 motors, shimano, Bosch, and Bafang. And they all deliver basically the same power (unmodded, which u can’t mod a Bosch)
If you can afford more, Pole e-bikes are easily the most gorgeous and luxe bikes. But I’d get a specialized (more tame) / Luna cycle x2.5 if that’s more ur budget.
Ristretto also makes a super sick e-bike that goes insanely fast. Keep in mind the CYC X1 motor they use is quite loud. Definitely look up the motor on YouTube if u wanna get it. Because the motor isn’t internally geared, it’s quite a bit bigger but also has 2 chain drives rather than using gears inside of a gearbox with an electric motor. Just by default it’s gonna be louder.
But it is faster than all of them and prolly goes 46+mph. Less of a mountain bike more of a MTB/Moto hybrid for street and trail. Keep in mind it’ll be very very heavy compared to something like s true mtb.
If u want even cheaper and literally just after speed, check out the wired freedom e-bike. That’s a good deal for the power, the bike itself is very meh but u could upgrade the cheap
Components. It uses a hub motor vs a mid drive like the other bikes I suggested, which is fine for road and even off-road it’s fine but it means all the weight of ur motor is on ur back wheel instead of the cranks so it’s not ideal for real mountain biking at all. But for street it’s totally fine.
If u get a ristretto, I’d call them and negotiate down the shipping cost and potentially the cost of the entire bike by like $500. They released that bike for like $7.5k right after the e-bike Covid craze kinda died and had to drop their prices to like 4.5k. They’re clearly trying to sell stock they didn’t anticipate on having. Luna x2.5 is free shipping btw. But ristretto would do it if u asked lol. Those are basically e-Moto. If u want full blown emoto get a talaria XXX or a talaria sting R - and get them from Luna cycle who also modifies those controllers for more power. This idea that good e-bikes costs 10k+ or even 5.5k+ is laughably untrue.
I’m 6 foot and ride a Medium btw on the X2.5 if ur curious lol, fun asf bike. IMO no better deal exists and it has this black paint with opal pearlescent flecks it’s muah. I guess there’s Reese and Mueller bikes too if u want pure class and refinement + ur minted.
Feel free to ask about certain bikes in particular if u want. I’ve been building my own e-bikes for years I pretty much geek out on it haha. Lots of hidden f-u’s these companies try to pull cause nobody knows what is what
Trying to hold on to their COVID boom, manufacturers can’t understand that people have bikes and don’t need to buy one every year, E-bikes are the worst as soon as a motor and battery are strapped to it, it adds $2000-3000 to the prices
Almost all high end e bikes are between 14k and 20k for starters. It's Ludacris. If you just want a full suspension carbon fiber mountain bike that will get you from the top of the mountain to the bottom comfortably. You're talking anywhere from 6k to 12k for starters. I just got a YT Jeffsy for nearly 6k.
I got Luna Cycle X2.5, a full carbon, full squish, 60v 3000w (insane power for an e-bike, 40mph), mid drive, highly specced e-bike for $4200 a couple weeks ago. It’s insanely sick, is it a trek? No, is it better than 90% of bikes and anything I’ve owned including a trek? Yes.
Pole (Euro) makes one that’s like $7.5k and probably the most gorgeous bike I’ve ever seen made with CNC aluminum unlike any other bike.
U just gotta accept ur buying Chinese geometry not American or Euro, which lets be real, is all but unnoticeable to anyone without a sponsor.
Alibaba has pretty sick titanium frames nowadays too for like $2500. Or commencal
The *marketing* is the expensive part.
You’d be surprised. Go and look at the likes of Specialized and Yeti and start adding your own custom components to them. I used to spec dream bikes on a spreadsheet when I was bored. Easily got a few E-bike builds up to nearly £20k
I have a house in the mountains near Seattle and constantly see random dudes riding s-works. Not like, hyper talented folks; just random folks with big budgets.
This just really isn’t true. Most people think they cost 15k because they go to trek dot com and look at the most highly specced bike.
There are tons and tons of extremely reputable, full carbon, full squish, fox suspension you name it e-bikes from $4k up to like $7.5k.
Check out Pole e-bikes which IMO is like the most expensive e-bike ever that isn’t a scam and it’s insaneeee. Costs $7.5k
Look up Luna Cycle X2.5 carbon which I own and is the nicest I’ve ever owned. Cost $4k. The only thing it’s lacking compared to a trek is fox suspension over high end rockshox- and probably worse geometry which is literally never notice. And I’ve owned treks. It’s about 3x more powerful than the highest specced trek… hits 40mph
Literal Olympic bikes costs $15k. Which people do own lol
Ah I gotcha. I misread that - I thought u were implying $15k for an e-bike is a steal haha.
I think people started to realize that ALL mid-high end e-bikes have basically the exact same components made by like 3 companies… and the electric add on is not worth more than like $1500… cause that’s literally what they sell them for.
Then it comes down to - is the frame / components worth (Price) - $1500.
In the case of this Porsche and MOST but not all e-bikes - the bikes aren’t worth $13.5k.
Even at maybe $7.5k I wouldn’t buy this bike but it’s not a total ripoff compared to others - and that’s probably what they got it for when they bought a Cayenne GTS or whatever!
Hobbyist cycling now allows you to buy a bicycle as close to professional equipment as possible, if you have the money. Carbon everything, electronic shifters etc.
It's kinda unique in this sense, there aren't many other hobbies besides maybe music that it's "affordable" to get equipment close what the top professionals use.
Yeah, like to buy a car that's truly race car equivalent, it would be hundreds of thousands. You can have an almost exact match to a pro racing bike for around $15k.
Quick tip to spot expensive e-bikes : whenever they have these very big, square-ish frames, provided that it doesn't look obviously cheap, you can safely assume that its price is between 2/3 and 10k. From there, you can refine by looking at the saddle, the tires, the overall quality. Oh and the Porsche logo can help but I didn't even know they made e-bikes. Or is it just a kind of sticker ?
extremely accurate. all the possessions on earth mean nothing if you don't have your health and safety. truly priceless. we forget this all to often.
the illusion of safety, also priceless.
Prosecutors are not part of the Courts though...
The Judicial system tries the cases that prosecutors bring forward. It would be a massive conflict of interest and imbalance of power if the same branch bringing forward the cases was the one trying them.
As someone who works at both Porsche AND a bike shop I feel uniquely qualified to comment on this.
Yes these things cost $15k (Retail on this one is $17,400 CAD). It’s not worth that much. The components are comparable to a bike you could get for under $3000. A similar E-bike from a real bike manufacturer would be around $5k (Trek, Rocky Mountain, Salsa, etc.)
A lot of dealerships were required to buy a handful of these by corporate. Our dealership was required to buy 5 of them. Many dealerships now see that the only way someone will buy one of these is if they make it a requirement for an allocation. Say a dealership makes it so you can only get a Sport Classic allo if you purchase one of these bikes.
Few dealerships are actually capable of properly servicing these as they require the knowledge of a skilled bike mechanic to build/tune.
Many dealerships are also selling these for cost, or throwing them in with the purchase of a new Taycan, 911, etc.
The bike is almost not even worth stealing, as flipping it is going to be very difficult. A thief would only be able to sell it for a couple grand, if that. Nobody wants these bikes.
Get a Trek Fuel EXe for a fifth of the price and a wayyyy better bike.
My 2¢.
You’d be really surprised my friend. I have friends with mountain bikes worth more than their cars, and if they got stolen they have insurance, but definitely could not replace them with cash
Oh none, I live in California. When i lived in Santa Cruz, a crackhead would spawn and steal your bike in 30 seconds no matter where you’re at in the county if you took your eyes off it haha. The town I live in now is a little more relaxed thankfully, you could leave it on a rack at the store and be fine
Not sure that is the $15k bike. It is not optioned right.
Bike probably just cost $1k in that configuration. Without the two-tone saddle ($1k), Porsche emblem engraving in the nut valley ($1.5k), Porsche-crested pedals ($1k), turbo wheels with one extra spoke ($3k), guards red paint ($1k), matching guards red handlebars ($1k), special "commemorative" matching guards red bike shorts ($4k), heads-up display ($1k) and clean chain option ($500).
Don't get upset, they do sell an appropriate bike lock in, you got it, guards red for $6k.
The thing is, it’s not something you can sell. I think the wheels are locked (might be wrong) and it’ll be retrieved pretty quickly and then you’re screwed.
That’s why it’s better to lift a Kia, than this. They’re only worth around $20-$100 but it’s simpler and harder to get caught.
You could easily swap the shimano ep8 controller for one that isn’t custom. Factory sells them. Making the motor work with a regular display. Then take the battery and swap whatever BMS / computer might prevent u from charging it without an app. Cut the custom charger port and swap it for something generic.
At the end of the day it’s a battery, a motor, and a controller. All easily replaceable.
99% of e-bikes can be hot wired in the simplest way - cut the “key ignition”, touch the red and black wires together. Voila. It’s on.
Lol, that’s not even a 30$ lock … more like 15$ … he could have used cable ties instead …. most insurances require a minimum lock (for my insurance cable locks are not allowed - only folding and U-lock above 80$)
Same, I was the original poster of this pic on e-bikes. … and I have a $4200 extremely well specced carbon full squish, 3000w mid drive e-bike that I bought like 2 weeks ago.
Ur exactly right, no e-bike is exotic - this is a major marketing charade to convince people that there’s something special about their Porsche e-bike that other don’t have. It literally has a shimano ep8 motor which isn’t even like mid-range anymore. It should have a Bosch CX race line - and have a top speed of like 35mph not a measly 25 or whatever.
This thing is super dated, tech wise in the e-bike world.
Wow, that’s one ugly bike. I don’t know why they gave this design job to an intern at Porsche, but there’s nothing aesthetically pleasing about it. From the weird angles, the ugly straight handle bars, that front fork, those spokes, … and that for 15k???
Bro bought this for a GT3RS allocation and is now hoping someone steals it so he can be reimbursed by his insurance.
Does that count for Porsche allocation lol?
There's no set rule, so each dealer handles it differently. Some will require a bunch of purchases while others are a lot more relaxed and do something close to first come first served. Some dealers let you jump the line if you pay over msrp, I've heard of some that don't. Also, a lot of times it's not so much "you need to buy x number of cars" and more that certain people are the first they call because they've spent a ton of money there.
No LOL
Doesn't insurance require a certain type of lock?
Typically yes, bike locks have ratings courtesy of the Sold Secure scheme, and insurance usually requires the Gold level.
he had to buy 10 of those to get an allocation
I think that's my bike. Can you dm me the location to confirm?
OP here, yeah for $10,000 i gotchu!
Nice try! Dude is gonna try stealing the bike lmao
Too obvious my guy
Nothing gets past you buddy
Nothing goes over his head. His reflexes are much too fast. He catches it.
Any flies on him, they'd be paying rent
This guy’s a big phony!
Sherlock Holmes stricks again!
I bet you're fun at parties.
First time on reddit?
Yes
Decorum aside, … you dumbass 🤦♂️
r/woooosh
😆
R/woosh
You are exactly the type of guy that would be trying to use the 3ds’ street pass in 2024
You would know the location 🤣
2 of these is about one mazda
That’s decent math!!!
It’s already two NC’s!
[удалено]
All NC’s really. People are starting to realize the value.
truth. source: i have realized the value and am in the market
Do it! I picked up a nice NC1 for 7k, which is insanely cheap considering that’s the price of some Porsche wheels. Fun little go kart.
Bought a 2017 mazda3 with approx 30k miles in early 2020 for 14k. Edit. That was out the door taxes tags etc.
Nice mine is the 2015 hatchback, loving it so far
We should have bought bikes
One is like three used Miata’s (at least two with todays market)
I rather have one of these than 2 zoom zooms
I would not know that is a $15k bike. I must be out of the loop. Hopefully - it’s that cayenne owner’s and he has a camera trained on it from the car.
Seriously... I was thinking, since when do bicycles cost 15k.
As soon as you write Porsche on it
I was gonna say … “Porsche” on it alone makes it that much 🤭
Welcome to modern cycling. I wish i was exaggerating...
Prices went nuts. It feels like they've almost doubled in the last few years.
It's nothing new. My neighbor spent 15k on his MTN bike and another 8k on a custom frame road bike about 15 years ago.
Bikes were that pricey 15 years ago? That’s crazy! It was like 2009…
You can buy fully operational motorcycles in great shape for less. I ride road and mountain, I've stopped upgrading due to the rising costs.
I heard the company that makes these sells their bikes for the same price, these just have the Porsche stickers on them.
E-bike prices have actually been pushed down pretty dramatically, due to post-Covid oversupply. It’s actually pretty easy to spend 15k on mountain bikes and road bikes. There are some wheels that cost thousands per wheel.
Yep. A nice set of carbon fiber wheels is easily $3k.

Man I could get 10 Bugatti scooters for 15k and their cars cost millions
Pro tour riders ride bikes in the $12-15k range. Yes, inflation has reached the cycling industry.
The brand name is $10,000 and then the bike itself is $5,000.

Porsche e-bike = $15,000.00. Cable lock = $30.00. The cost of living in a low crime area = priceless.
extremely accurate. all the possessions on earth mean nothing if you don't have your health and safety. truly priceless. we forget this all to often. the illusion of safety, also priceless.
Go to Singapore or Hong Kong, and you’ll see the same bikes unlocked everyday.
Makes sense considering theft is punishable by death there. In the US, it's punished with literally nothing but apathy from law enforcement.
Blame your prosecutors. Police won’t go after people to just watch them walk away.
Would prosecutors not be considered part of law enforcement? They literally legally enforce the law...

Excuse me, my bicycle has infinite range as long as I have enough of those energy gel goops to eat and enough lube for my crotch.
As someone who works at both Porsche AND a bike shop I feel uniquely qualified to comment on this. Yes these things cost $15k (Retail on this one is $17,400 CAD). It’s not worth that much. It’s a bait bike. Let the games begin
should have used a 60 dollar lock!
People that can afford a 15k ebike can certainly afford to replace it. It's the same for people that have a Porsche 911 Turbo as a daily.
I mean, I have a 992 TTS as my weekender and I wouldn’t have a good day if someone stole my 15k ebike
Weekending a car is different to dailying a car
You’d be really surprised my friend. I have friends with mountain bikes worth more than their cars, and if they got stolen they have insurance, but definitely could not replace them with cash

High end bike theft is a big deal. People are lazy locking their bikes and lock through the wheel and not frame, easy $2-10k
I have a 9k XC bike, I’d be sad if it was stolen regardless of the ability to replace it.
I daily my 992 Turbo. Not sure one has to do with the other.
Not true. Some people scrimp and save to finally be able to afford their stuff. Not all of us are rich.
I would say that’s smart💡!
this is Redmond at the Microsoft headquarters I assume?
The caption in the original post says it’s “not a particularly safe city in the Southern US”. Probably Miami or something like that.
Houston
There are good places and bad places in cities, and given the rest of the picture, I'm gonna wager a guess they'll be just fine.
So did you take it or what?
It has tracking features. You can’t do much with it if you steal it.
Trade it for some tweak pretty easy. They don’t care about the actual value, just home much meth they think can trade it for in that moment.
Chop it up for parts to sell?
I mean, if there’s a will there’s a way?
You could easily swap the shimano ep8 controller for one that isn’t custom. Factory sells them. Making the motor work with a regular display. Then take the battery and swap whatever BMS / computer might prevent u from charging it without an app. Cut the custom charger port and swap it for something generic. At the end of the day it’s a battery, a motor, and a controller. All easily replaceable. 99% of e-bikes can be hot wired in the simplest way - cut the “key ignition”, touch the red and black wires together. Voila. It’s on.
Yet, to know this and understand it? Means you probably aren’t stealing random Porsche ebikes.

This is not an item you can sell really. It’s too hot and useless. And $15,000 is real charges when caught.
We’re selling one for $6k!
Lol, that’s not even a 30$ lock … more like 15$ … he could have used cable ties instead …. most insurances require a minimum lock (for my insurance cable locks are not allowed - only folding and U-lock above 80$)
Maybe it’s insured and the plan is to put insurance money toward the McLaren EBike
Pee wee used chains and his still got stolen…… Just saying.
Damn dude needs some ps4’s, those tires are ready!
who is spending 15 thousand on an e- porsche. ok
That’s a good 986 S or a bad 996 cab right there.
How fast can you go in this Porsche?
You sir have a criminal mind
The builds on these aren’t exactly exotic. I’d love to know how much the logo adds $$. I have a very high end carbon emtb and it ain’t $15k
Where can I buy a $30,000 cable lock?
Expensive bikes but they’re made by Rotwild in Germany which is a great semi-bespoke brand. $30 cable lock is just plain idiocy though.
Japan has some really good bicycle lock and storage systems. I would probably do it in a city like that, but not in the U.S.
$20k with ADM, probably
Low key no display and I’d imagine no alarm. Seems like a very respectful deal for 15k.
I picked up a 2016 m135i (legally its a 2017) for 14.5k so my car is worth a whole bicycle less than that bicycle
In Tokyo they wouldn't even bother locking it up.
There is no lock, which can’t be „opened“ so just buy the one which the insurance requires
Owned by the Police Dept and containing a tracker.
There’s probably someone in that Macan making a YouTube video.
A lock only keeps a honest man honest. A thief knows nothing will keep him from it, if he truly wants it
If it depreciates as fast as other electric Porsches then it'll be worth $500 tops in about three years.
Literally the equinox of people who spend 100K on a vehicle and then spill drinks and smoke in it and let their kids destroy the thing.
$15,000 OMG holy shit………… I would not pay that much for E Bike if I was a multimillionaire
Why advertise this?
when you know you've got really good insurance (p.s. your homeowners covers a lot more than just your house)
Audis is 10K 😂
At first glance, I thought who tf would pay 15 grand for a regular ass bike… Then I read porsche and it all made sense 💀💀💀
Click on 3...
Anyone know who the manufacturer is? Would be surprised if porsche actually made it
i would love to see a review of this bike. standard EU bikes are 5k each (i think)
You pay 15k for a bike you have money to burn.
I’d hardly call this a bike. More so motorcycle
No, this one isn’t self propelled. It just has pedal assist.
Wow, that’s one ugly bike. I don’t know why they gave this design job to an intern at Porsche, but there’s nothing aesthetically pleasing about it. From the weird angles, the ugly straight handle bars, that front fork, those spokes, … and that for 15k???
Damn I didn't know that they were that expensive
