If either of these men ran today against their opponents current nominee, they would win by 150 electorates. Minimum.
To answer the OP question: neither. Both were exactly what we expected them to be, said what we knew they would say. It didn't move the needle at all, really.
A younger Bob Dole would have been a good opponent. By 1996, he gave about as good a performance as we saw last night. After this debate, a friend back in 1996 called Dole "Mumbly Joe" for the rest of the campaign.

The truth is, it did not matter much. Dole was so far behind that it didn’t change anything.
