90 - 120 min prior to sailaway. Tell them to call Princess and advise them they are on the way. There used to be a number for that - have them check the Travel Summary that is on the website in their account. If not call customer service tomorrow morning. Good luck to them! En route desk phone numbers here under weather delays: https://www.princess.com/en-us/faq/pre-cruise#travel-transportation

Mollysmom1972

Thank you! That is super helpful. With the flight issues tonight I’d wager they’re not the only ones.

chipsdad

90 minutes prior is the standard check in cutoff (to enter the terminal). Generally they’ll take people until 60 minutes before if they’re rushing to port. Given the situation, likely they will hold departure an hour or more for late arriving passengers with Princess transfers. It wouldn’t surprise me if they take people until 3 or even 4pm. Call on their behalf, although it sounds like they’ve got enough time. And please update us!

merryraspberry

I saved this number! Thank you!

So. Deep breath. Just make sure they are reaching out to Princess but also driving safe the entire time. Once they get on the boat... if they drink... tell them to grab one and just sit back and laugh. Encourage them to grab a hotel on the trip back and relax if their lives allow it (not sure if they have to get back right away) So. We had a crazy travel adventure a few years ago. We had booked this amazing Disney World vacation for us and my parents. Got us somehow upgraded to the Grand Floridian (we used to go to Disney yearly... so maybe that played into it?) and reservations at Victoria and Albert's. 10 night. Everything booked perfectly. Even got my son his first suit for the above mentioned dinner. We drive down because we are outside CLT and it's just under 8 hours. We always drive half way and get a hotel in the Savannah area. So we are on our way. We get to Savannah. Check in. Then no more then 5 minutes later we get a call from my mom. It's Mid March mind you. 2020 Disney just closed due to Covid. Entire trip gone. Man we were heart broken. 12 months of planning gone. But in the reality of the world we understood... but it still was depressing. We ended up catching a hotel in Hilton head the next day and ended up staying for a couple days. While the craziness of that day was a lot. We made the most of the situation and now.. we sit back and remember that all fondly. Laugh about how we just checked into the hotel and boom... vacation canceled. Sure we would have had some amazing memories at Disney if it wasn't cancelled but the memories we have because of the craziness then the beautiful 2 nights we spent on Hilton Head.... make it something we will never forget.

Mollysmom1972

Aw! That’s an amazing story. I’m hoping this will be one we can tell their kids someday, lol. They’ve made to Central Florida and have about 2 hours left to the port. I so appreciate the help and encouragement here!

Owww_My_Ovaries

They should be good. Awesome news. Might be worth a call to Princess to ya know... see if you can order them something special. Bottle of wine for the room maybe? That had to be stressful... just my 2 cents

Mollysmom1972

I’m paying for their parking for the week 😂 they’re too young to appreciate wine … I’d have to send them a bottle of cheap tequila.

Owww_My_Ovaries

Even better. Amazing mom

FinancialDonkey1

Recommended to be there 2 hours before (1pm), but shouldn't be an issue 1 hour before (2pm). You may want to help them figure out where they will park their car. Edit: the airport is 10 mins from the cruise terminal. There are no flights in the morning to take?

Mollysmom1972

We don’t have a lot of choice out of here. There was one Alligiant flight at 630 am but it was over $500 a ticket once the fees were added on. I could front my daughter but not the other kids in the group. American (their original airline) had nothing in that timeframe. Everyone is being rebooked from tonight. Had they asked me before hand, I would’ve told them taking the last flight out the night before was a bad idea. But y’know, I’m just the mom. I’m dumb as a box of hair 😂

FinancialDonkey1

The last thing I'd want to do was drive 15 hours after returning from a cruise. No other airports to drive to? It just seems like a huge risk for low reward.

For people complaining about costs of new flights, I doubt they want to extend the trip and expenses.

A couple hour flight vs 15 hours of driving? That's not entitled, it's called being reasonable. It's literally adding 2 days to a vacation, and driving isn't a vacation. So now they have $300 or so in gas, parking at the port, a hotel night, an additional meal or two... Sounds like a big cost saver in addition to literally wasting time. With an airport a couple miles from the port, driving is clearly not the preferred option (it's why they booked flights to begin with). Just because you like to waste your time driving doesn't mean everyone else does. And if you haven't figured out TSA pre-check, you're your own worst enemy.

Wife and two kids. I'm just not poor and I value my, and my family's time.

Mollysmom1972

They’re 19 and 21, and the friend with them is 20. I could’ve spotted my kid another $600 for a flight, but I couldn’t afford it for the rest of them and the other two just don’t have that kind of money lying around. Had it been my old ass I for sure would’ve plunked down a card before I drove, but they’re young and still made like rubber bands. They rally better than I do. They did make it and are now on the dang ship!

Far_Childhood2503

Even if they could get a flight from a different airport (for example, if they could get to a hub city like Charlotte/wherever has a flight in to Ft. Lauderdale in the morning) they would have better odds and could get some sleep tonight.

uhcgoud

I believe it’s normally boarding 90 min before departure. However with the storms, people who booked through their EZ Air might be delayed and Princess will wait for them for a reasonable amount of time. You still have hope for a delayed departure.

Mollysmom1972

Thank you, i appreciate the reply. I’ll be up all night checking their location and making sure they’re still safe. They are almost to the Georgia line (coming from northern KY.)

ticklemee2023

They will be fine, Georgia border is about 6-7 hours to port. I'd suggest they keep driving till they are as close as possible, through the night they will make the best time, mornings can get busy(especially since more will be driving then usual for the same reason) Good luck, update us on when they get there :)

Mollysmom1972

Wrong side of the Georgia border, lol. I meant they are entering Georgia from TN. About 11 hours left. They are young and they will drive through the night - much better than I could at my age! Her boyfriend works nights at Amazon so he’s used to a back of the clock schedule. I’ve found parking info for them and their documents are already done. We’ll just hope for the best. Once they’re on board they can nap. I told my daughter I once got stuck in a blizzard on my way to spring break. 9 girls in two cars with six cases of Busch Light and a pair of CB’s so we could keep up with each other. I-75 was a parking lot - nothing open, roads closed and a sea of college kids trying to get to Florida. At one point we traded another car a case of beer for a pack of Slim Jim’s 😂 It took us four days but we got to the beach. I can’t imagine how worried our parents must have been with zero way to reach us. It sucked then but now it’s a great story.

ticklemee2023

I guess it would depend on cruise port, if it's port canaveral from TN/Georgia border its 6hrs, I can't imagine coming from a different way from.kentucky, I've traveled that route a million times. If they are going to Miami then it's about 3 hrs further so 9 hrs at the most still plenty of time

Mollysmom1972

It was Ft Lauderdale. They just got to boarding with an hour to spare. They took the usual 75S and then the Florida Turnpike. I told them to suck it up on the tolls and save that hour.

ticklemee2023

Happy to hear they made it!

FloridaAdventurez

This is exciting… need more updates 🤙 Also, props to you mom , understandably worried, but supportive and helpful and props to the kids for not giving up, making decision to go for it and see it through….

Mollysmom1972

Aw, thank you. She sent me a pic of the sunrise as they crossed into Florida. They’re about 2 hours out from the port now … should be worn out, but ok.

FloridaAdventurez

Fantastic… they can get in room by 1:00-1:30 .. Power Nap and then get out there and start there party… thanks for the update 🤙… happy cruising to them

sweetestlorraine

Waiting to read of their safe arrival. Fingers crossed.

Mollysmom1972

They are boarding! Just in the last 20 minutes. Made it with an hour to spare. Thank you so much for asking - the support here is awesome. Send good vibes to their bartender 😂

sweetestlorraine

You're a good mom.

IsaacAsimovSideburns

Are they there yet? Are they there yet? Are they there yet?

Mollysmom1972

They are!! Just now. Currently boarding with exactly one hour to spare. Three stops in 15 hours, but the Cannonball Run is complete. I pity their bartender 😂

IsaacAsimovSideburns

Oh, yay! Everyone can rest now!

amby6063

So glad they made it!!

Cruise_Gear

We just got on a princess where they delayed about an hour waiting for people. I don’t think it’s normal. But with so many delayed flights I heard it would have been nearly 20 percent of the passengers missing if they didn’t wait. Keep us posted OP! Def curious how it works out!

chipsdad

If there are major travel disruptions, they’ll do this if they possibly can.

evrydayimbrusselin

This is unrelated to the timing question, but can a 21 and 19 year old sail without someone at least 25?

chipsdad

Allowed on Princess. Not allowed on Carnival unless an exception applies.

evrydayimbrusselin

That's exactly what I was thinking of. Thanks!

evrydayimbrusselin

Ahhh disregard. They are fine. I was thinking of something else.

geekymama

I hope they make it! This was nearly us in 2022. We were finally taking our COVID cruise after almost 2 years. Our flight leaving Omaha kept getting delayed to the point we would miss our connection in Atlanta. There were no other flights, so the Delta agent advised us to get off in Atlanta and then drive to Tampa. 6 hour drive at night, but we were willing to do it. Except this was spring break, and the only rental agency doing one-way rentals closed by the time we'd land in Atlanta. Thankfully I was able to find exactly 4 seats left on an early morning flight from Atlanta to Tampa.
