Define “deeper voice”. I personally wish they would go back to how she sounded during Volume 1, where her voice was less nasally and not as high pitched. It wasn’t a deep voice by any means, but she actually sounded naturally like a young dorky teenager back then, which fits Ruby a lot better. The current voice they’re going for sounds like they’re trying too hard, at least in my opinion.
Right? Current Ruby voice sounds like an adult trying to sound like a teenagers voice while volume 1-3 had that high energy voice that comes with that age.
He posted a link to a video that had Ruby talking in a much deeper voice (I couldn’t tell if it was a different VA dubbing over the original lines or if the lines were just pitched down, but it was deeper either way). If I’m being honest, it sounded about as deep as Mitsuru Kirijo’s voice from Persona 3, which is *way* too deep for Ruby.
Maybe if it was slightly higher I can see it working. After Beacon I'd imagine her voice sounding a lot more jaded, or tired, because of what happened at Beacon. And during the later volumes a lot darker and moody since she's practically carrying a world sized weight on her shoulders. During the Beacon days she'd definitely have a much higher yet somewhat deep voice to convey naivety. But those are my thoughts.
Me personally I'd say yes. Like how in Ninjago Lloyd's voice changed after Hands of Time, the same should have happened with Ruby's voice changed after V3. They could keep the same VA but changing the voice to show that she changed would have been nice but ultimately it's a small complaint or nitpick in grand scheme of things.
Yes… her voice in V1 was PERFECT idk why they keep making Lindsey voice get higher or if that was something she herself did but her V1 regular voice was good because she felt like a Teen
That can only really work if the VA relatively young or talented to switch the age of their voice pre-puberty.
Lindsay was already in her twenties and no offence to her but she can't pull off sounding like a teenager without sounding like she's inhaling helium.
Honestly, her Volume 1 voice was great. I get that Lindsay felt it was too mature and so changed it up. But I'd have loved if, over the course of the show, she returned to that pitch as Ruby matured.
Maybe less squeaky but it is refreshing to see characters that have what some may consider flaws. All too often stories skew for 'cool' characteristics like being overly tall, having deep voices or facial scars. Why can't there be a hero that is 5'4 and has a nasal voice and buckteeth, but played completely serious? Or a heroine that is 5 feet tall and has a squeaky and slightly annoying voice?
She needs her Volume 1 voice, and if there's ever adult Ruby stuff she should sound like Vanessa Kimball from Red vs Blue, who Lindsay Jones also voices.
I agree her voice should have gotten deeper over time as she matured. Something approaching blackwidow's or yang but still has her unique spin to it. I lack the words to describe what I mean.
She needs a dam character to rewrite more than a deeper voice, honestly I like Ruby's voice, sure it is high pitched but that's why I like it, it makes her stand out from her teammates, and it draws you to her in the middle of a conversation.
Idk
I don't think her voice is necessarily bad. I think it's just that she seems to have a higher pitch when a new season comes along. I wish they would just have her voice like they did in volume 1. It sounds natural
Whenever I rewatched Vol1 Ruby’s voice I get MAJOR whiplash, I’ve got so used to anime high pitch Ruby that listening to her voice back then just made me confused. I don’t hate it but it could be brought back more naturally, given that Ruby is much more older now.
Remembering her deeper voice tone in Volume 1 just made her sound like she was already 17 as she is in the current volumes. Now she’s literally what a 15 year old would sound.
Considering how time passes in the show I'm honestly a little disappointed that her voice didn't get at least a bit deeper as she aged. It why I actually love Sonic's voice in Frontiers because it makes it feel like he's aged since the last time we've seen him & he's not a bratty kid anymore & considering how Ruby has the female equivalent of that cute but kinda annoying voice it would have been nice to see that subtle change take place in real time throughout the different volumes of the show... Missed opportunity much?
Her voice was fine in the earlier volumes. Later volumes it sounded a bit too high for some reason. Idk why, it feels like it grates a bit more. No hate on Lindsay though I can't picture anyone else as Ruby in English.
Though sidebar, her Japanese dub voice actress. Saori Hayama (Shinobu from Demon Slayer; Yor from Spy X Family) was spot on casting imo.
I kinda just realized that Ruby's voice did what happened to Paimon's from Genshin. It was a somewhat high deep voice that evolved into a high pitch voice that you just get used to over time.
This is so true. I wouldve loved to see Rubys voice develop over the volumes as she matured and grew I feel like it wouldve added a bit more authentic if you were to look back to see her character growth.

I think the same, Ruby really sound like a grown ass woman trying to sound younger rather than a girl reaching 16 or 17 hears old.

*Definitely* not that deep. That sounds *way* too mature for Ruby.
What did he said?
He posted a link to a video that had Ruby talking in a much deeper voice (I couldn’t tell if it was a different VA dubbing over the original lines or if the lines were just pitched down, but it was deeper either way). Not everyone shares the same opinion as you, i’d say maybe just a tad deeper than volume 1, but not entirely unrecognisable from the original
Maybe if it was slightly higher I can see it working. After Beacon I'd imagine her voice sounding a lot more jaded, or tired, because of what happened at Beacon. Hold on let him cook. Maybe not for current RWBY. I could see this for a post story/mentor Ruby in a sequel
Lmao
Damn, that has some mommy energy. Sign me the hell up.
She really needs to go back to her V1 voice.
Yes, not super deep (although that’d be pretty funny) I just wish she didn't sound like an infant or toddler
That what I'm saying
Yes… her voice in V1 was PERFECT idk why they keep making Lindsey voice get higher or if that was something she herself did but her V1 regular voice was good because she felt like a Teen
Eeeh sometimes. When she yells maybe but I admit her current voice isn’t bad. I do love her s1 voice
She needed to sound older. She’s 15 in volume 1 and somehow sounded like a pre-pubescent girl
Honestly it could be like how Finn has the same VA is just dude grew up and you could tell
That can only really work if the VA relatively young or talented to switch the age of their voice pre-puberty. Lindsay was already in her twenties and no offence to her but she can't pull off sounding like a teenager without sounding like she's inhaling helium.
She sounded fine in V1
100% agree with you on that.
After Vale, yes. During it was fine.
Unrelated to the post, but Ruby's Mistral outfit was my absolute favorite. She looked so cute and pretty. Just give her a cupcake and a head pat :)
Ruby needs a deeper everything. Personality, background, morals and voice.
She'd be at least five time more tolerable.
She needs to sound like she smoke ten packs a day
For later Volumes yes
I keep hoping that Ruby will sustain a throat injury that drops her an octave or two. Doesn't even have to be violent, they could make it slapstick.
Ruby's voice got way too high pitched, she definitely needs to go back to her original voice
Honestly, her Volume 1 voice was great. I get that Lindsay felt it was too mature and so changed it up. But I'd have loved if, over the course of the show, she returned to that pitch as Ruby matured.
The way she was voiced in episode 1 was peak. She actually sounded like a normal young woman instead of a squeaky toy.
Not personally, no
No not really, I think her voice is adorable and fine.
Yeah
Her light voice in season one was great and sounded authentic.
The voice she had in the first episode was fine. But after that they made her more childish.
Yeah, it's about time. Lindsey using her more natural voice would be fitting for Ruby after all this time.
I'd prefer if it wasn't so squeaky. Lindsay does have a good voice and I can't imagine doing that voice is very comfortable
She needs her episode 1 voice where Lindsey didn't have to pitch her up.
Rwby is like paimon Her voice just got more and more annoying as time went on Until volume 9, Lindsey nailed Jaded-depressed Ruby
No,she need deeper plot.
Maybe less squeaky but it is refreshing to see characters that have what some may consider flaws. All too often stories skew for 'cool' characteristics like being overly tall, having deep voices or facial scars. [Correct!](https://youtu.be/S6oAQHROtzs?si=Of7lJBfQcE8pAICV)
How old is she is she's like 17 right yeah we should have gone a little deeper but not too much she is still the kid of the group
Well. Yes. Should have after volume 4 or 7.
No it’s funny
No
Yeah, it doesn't make sense that as she gets older her voice gets higher pitched.
Depends on if they actually aged throughout
She needs her Volume 1 voice, and if there's ever adult Ruby stuff she should sound like Vanessa Kimball from Red vs Blue, who Lindsay Jones also voices.
I wouldn't be against it. Her voice in the anime was good
anyone seen that video where someone took all the yells from Ruby and put them on a bird?
No, a cuter voice.
I agree her voice should have gotten deeper over time as she matured. Something approaching blackwidow's or yang but still has her unique spin to it. I lack the words to describe what I mean.
Yes. The high pitch squeaky voice is annoying.
Denzel Washington deep

no,
I’d agree. The voice got a bit higher than the first few seasons. I’d prefer if it went back to the slightly deeper pitch.
Exactly I’ve been saying she should be voiced by Morgan freeman for years but no one agreed
No her higher voice fits well with her character especially in the first 3 volumes.
Her entire family needs to be re-written.
I don't think her voice is necessarily bad. I think it's just that she seems to have a higher pitch when a new season comes along. I wish they would just have her voice like they did in volume 1. It sounds natural
Honestly works best with her Chibi version
No
Fans complain
Her voice from Beacon was perfect for her, so I would like them keep with that portrayal regardless of pitch.
Yes. Or at least not one quite so cutesy/gratey.
Not exactly deeper but less nasally, bring her back to her nerdy voice she had early on!
Whenever I rewatched Vol1 Ruby’s voice I get MAJOR whiplash, I’ve got so used to anime high pitch Ruby that listening to her voice back then just made me confused. I don’t hate it but it could be brought back more naturally, given that Ruby is much more older now.

She needed a deeper voice 5 volumes ago
Vol. 1 voice would fit her better
Just one question why
I've got a buddy who says her voice activates his sensory issues, making watching the show literally painful, so yeah.
Eh nah. I actually like the voice actors existing take of their characters. For Ruby probs V1 version was really good but regardless still like it.
Thing is it isnr even impossible since vol 1 rwby had a deeper voice
Her voice was fine in the earlier volumes. Later volumes it sounded a bit too high for some reason. Idk why, it feels like it grates a bit more. Every season that goes by Lindsay's voice dips more into her head voice and higher pitched, it's not pleasant to hear
Anything where she doesn't sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks, or breathing in helium, really.
I like the voice she uses in her Vtuber videos: its a bit deeper.
she already got a deeper voice
No?
That's very dumb.
I kinda just realized that Ruby's voice did what happened to Paimon's from Genshin. It was a somewhat high deep voice that evolved into a high pitch voice that you just get used to over time.
I liked how she sounded in volume 1
This is so true. I wouldve loved to see Rubys voice develop over the volumes as she matured and grew I feel like it wouldve added a bit more authentic if you were to look back to see her character growth.
I agree, she needs to sound more like a grown-up young woman than a teenager, ngl.
