The guy I stole from ended up sinking and the other sloop harpooned all the loot, I sold a few before they caught on but then they realised and ended me 😂

And that's why the only good alliance is one where you both go your separate ways. I've had allied crews use the ability to track each other's ships on the map to ambush mine at an outpost while selling. This was before Sovereigns when selling a big haul was a long process, but I still wouldn't trust an alliance ship racing towards me anymore than some rando crew.
One of the reasons I never alliance tbh, I literally trust nobody haha. Only time I've had a successful alliance was when I managed to get the glitterbeard easter egg done a few days ago
My bloodthirsty crews love making alliances specifically to track them on the map. We very rarely actually bother to sink them, actually, but we enjoy knowing where they are and having the option.

Yeah, it shoots 10 pellets that spread and they all do 10 damage each. If you land them all from point plank range then it 1 shot kills

If you’re on land, or on another boat (including row boats) then no mermaid spawns.
Mermaids spawn when on land. We do this all the time at the FOF and the mermaid is there, ALWAYS.
